Some thoughts on gameplay mechanics and the anti-woke brigade outrage #thewitcher4 #cdprojektred #thewitcher #ciri #witcher #cinematicrevealtrailer #Thewitcher4trailer
Dude, THANK YOU, for saying everything I've been thinking. The idea that everyone thats different expects every1 else to tiptoe around them is SO OLD. Great vid!
It has gotten ridiculous indeed, that's why I felt I needed to address this. I can already guess what will happen next. Some leftist gaming journalist will pick up on this and have the perfect reason to call gamers toxic and sexist again, and thanks to these idiots they will even have a point.
It’s truly saddening to think that being older is so often equated with losing beauty. She has the grace and allure of a mature woman. Witcher 4 could offer the option for Ciri to become either a Witcher or a Mage-Planeswalker. Geralt’s death could serve as the catalyst for her to undergo the Trial of the Grasses. The Witcher world is a dark, grim, and melancholic place. I feel CDPR does a great job choosing faces and clothing that fit this atmosphere. It would feel strange to see Ciri with an anime-style aesthetic-it wouldn’t align with the tone and style of the series.
Well, for most of us, aging is in fact about losing beauty. Whether or not that's a bad thing or not is up to everybody personally. Same about whether it matters if a game character is pretty or not, in that regard I still think people should maybe try talking to a real girl for once. Looking at the new voice actress, I actually think Ciri's face has zero to do with age or uglifying or any other stuff, but is simply a face scan of the new actress which they probably had for facial motion capture as well as the voice. And for a trailer they didn't see the need to adjust her facial structure very much. The actress seems to have almost exacly the same face as Ciri in the trailer so.. I think people are reading WAAY too much into that. I like that they still have strong Slavic imagery in the trailer, that they came up with a new English accent for the new region in the North, which means that they still have the dialog people in the company that make sure you can tell from the accent what region of the world you're in... Personally I'll miss the old voice actress way more than any face, because I played Witcher starting with the first game, and Geralt looked... decidedly different in that one, let's put it like that, so I'm used to main characters faces changing all the time. What I'd personally like to hear at some point is confirmation fo exactly how much time has passed since Witcher 3, since that will obviously have implications on the state of the world.
Ciri looks like a pretty girl, i don't see how she's ever be seen as "ugly" i saw the face and went "hot" lmfao i like the scar breaks up her "perfect" appearance... and i'm getting tired of this "anti woke" shit i pay it no mind i'm getting too old (i'm 29 lol) and have no reason to think it gonna be anything other than a Ciri led Witcher game (sword wielding Lara Croft anyone?)
Frankly I don't even see how she looks super old anyway. To me she looks like a normal 28-31 year old. People claiming she looks like 50 are completely nuts. They should go to Poland and check out what Slavic women in their 20s and 30s look like. She looks like late 20s.
In an interview on IGN, CDPR devs "Lore Masters" said that Geralt is here to stay. He's not going anywhere, and they pointed out that the book "Season of Storms" hinted that Geralt is still alive after a 100 years.
it is so sad that one can't even enjoy game in peace without being attacked by either side. Like chill out it was barely announced, wait & see the game first before jumping to conclusions & screaming at top of ur lungs.
I love people saying “these are just tourists complaining” - “tourists”… what a great description, and so true - first, no way did they make her ugly… c’mon man… when did people want the Witcher to look like anime - she’s gorgeous and looks like a tough adult bad @ss that’s “seen some things” - second, they say she’s going to be overpowered with skills she shouldn’t have - when did we all want to play a video game that had simpler skills than its predecessor? Yeah, give me a game with more skills, more complicated magic, more weapons, and many many more options…. More more more - and by the end, I want to be an overpowered Superman bc I deserve it - I don’t know if Ciri deserves it, but she’s not playing the video game 😅 - I’m super excited and think they’ll do whatever it takes to not mess this up - they can’t afford a cyberpunk glitch this time
I always wish we could have a combat system that is a mix of witcher 1 & witcher 3 & nioh. Not in terms of souls-like leveling, but with the complexity of moveset & the variations of tools both in medieval weaponry & magic. It could have been perfect to have different style of swordsmanship style from a different type of swords, added to the layers of stance system. There is still the familiarity with how witcher looks with two swords but it has layers that differentiate each players combat.
ciri was going to be the protagonist no matter what, it was literally played out in an ending of blood and wine. these people saying she’s ugly are stupid she was a teenager in the witcher 3 so of course she’s gonna grow up like anyone does. also this is cgi trailer we don’t even know how she’s gonna look in game.
She was 22 in Witcher 3 if the game's info on her birth year is taken into account, but yes. She basically looks like a normal 28-32 year old in the trailer. (And I suspect the changes are due to them motion capturing the face of the voice actress. If you look up the new VA, she looks very similar to Ciri in this trailer.
Video is on point 100% im willing to bet most people criticizing the W4 reveal have never even played the previous games or read the books. Or ever had a girlfriend for that matter.
The impression I'm getting is that most of them never played Witcher 1 or 2 and would probably have laughed at those games. They hwever jumped on the hype train when Witcher 3 became popular and now claim they're fans. From their perspective they now want a sequel with Geralt and are butt hurt that they don't get one. Meanwhile the real fans have been with Geralt for 3 decades now and watched him from The Last Wish all the way to Blood and Wine and are more than happy with his retirement since we already had TWO sequels with Geralt, three games. They only played one, so they complain now that they want a Geralt sequel. And I bet none of them would even consider playing Witcher 1 and 2 because "graphics ugly"... they'd probably lose their shit if they saw Geralt's visual in Witcher 1 :D
Thank you for making this video. You basically read my mind. I was actually considering making a video talking about this but thankfully I found your video. I thought I was going crazy for not understanding why everyone is mad about ciri and her appearance. I think she looks complete fine and the trailer was awesome in my opinion
I understand why the rage bait accounts do it. For money What I don't get is everyone else who isn't profiting for the rage bait they amplify. Mind you they have no coherent argument half the time
People complain about the Main Stream media lying or exaggerating to get views, and then they turn around and do the same thing on their own channels. It's annoying
@LeutnantJoker how they don't see the hypocrisy is baffling. I told one sometime that "you and the media you criticize are both sides of the same coin"
THANK YOU!!! I´m exactly on the same page as you on this. So glad, that there are more of us. I think now is the time to raise a reasonable voice, otherwise this drifts in the exact same... or better other direction as it went with the wokeness in star wars, lotr, Netflix witcher etc. I think the trailer was really good and I also hope they find a satisfying way to explain why and how Ciri was able to pass the trial of the grasses and why she cant use her elderblood powers anymore. Thanks for the video man!
You're welcome. My biggest issue isn't even her elder blood "powers" (even though losing them wouldn't make much sense to me since that's not a power, it'S simply her genetics). The bigger deal is "why would she willingly choose to become infertile". THAT needs an explanation I feel. Especially given what we know about Yennefer.
I’m an immersive type of player and so honestly I loved the trailer so much. I’m surprised that others didn’t feel the same way when I saw Ciri with two swords on her back all grown up. Did no one else feel like a proud Dad after that 120hours of getting Ciri to where she’s at currently ? So amazing to me to see my favorite characters grow while I my self grow and get older. Just the mark of an amazing world adaptation and writing
I felt a bit of that, but honestly I felt that already when we found her in Witcher 3 hehe. But yes, there's always a fatherly feeling, I've been with Geralt for too long :) (All the more creepy how everybody just treats her like their favorite porn star) The reason why I was worried when I saw her as a full witcher is the same reason I suspect Geralt would feel worried.. I wanted her to be able to have a family. Certainly not go through the same torture her father had to endure and end up as infertile and regretful as her mother.
Its nice to see a video thats not just, "Witcher goes WOKE" or "DEI" blah blah blah.. man it gets so exhausting. Ciri has been one of the most important characters from the very beginning, so I don't know how anyone was surprised about the choice.
My main complaint is not how she looks, she looks ok to me, just not my type. My main complaint is that they clearly making her Geralt 2.0 gameplay wise. She is already leages above anyone else with her Elder blood magic, she is quick and nimble fighter. But what we see: she clearly is using Geralt style combat - big and strong strikes, bqsicly a brawler with a lot of sword skills + she uses wither signs that she could not do in books and her own magic is far better anyway. I kinda liked what they did with Ciri gameplay in Wither 3 - she is super quick but clunky, juat refine this combat. And for the last - trial of grass is stupid, Geralt wouldnt want it, Yen wouldnt want it, no wither alive would want that for her. Its super painful and super risky, and she doesnt need it. (Of course its done to make combat closer to Geralt, hell the whole second half of trailer is just Geralt with short temper (why kill villagers ? Wtf ?))
Came here for a trailer analysis, got that AND one of the more coherent cultural critiques I’ve found. Ten points. Also, beauty may be subjective but Ciri is hot (and definitely not old) in the new trailer. People have lost their minds.
@ Agreed. To my eye she looked around the same age as me, so early thirties. Certainly no older than 34 or 35. But hey, maybe that’s ancient and I just don’t know it yet.
The anti-woke brigade whining about Ciri are those we call tourists, played 10 hours of W3 and think knows all about the witcher lore, just as annoying as pro woke
At this point yes. And as I pointed out before, I think the main issue is actually indeed that they only played Witcher 3. They expect a sequel with Geralt, and are annoyed they're not getting one, completely ignoring that Witcher 3 already was the second sequal in a series and we already had three games with him, not to mention at this point 9 books. I can't see a single person that took the time to do let's plays of all three games and reading the books (and there are plenty of let's players that did this and actually ended up loving Witcher 1) who has any problems with Geralt retiring. It's just the people who jumped on the W3 hype train that are now complaining.
I love the term “tourist” …. We all knew Ciri was going to be next and Geralt’s character arc was completed and perfect - I don’t want to rehash old stories
What they did to Lord of the rings,, they do to the witcher.. The kid been sacrificed in trailer represents the witches world.. Take a stand against such evil... Not just in games!
Great video, always happy too see a nuanced thought out opinion. I genuinely don't understand why people are pissy about Geralt not being in the spotlight, did you play blood and wine? He literally says to Regis that he wants to eventually retire with yen and they even include a 4th wall brake when he says goodbye... That being said my only gripe with the Witcher 4 trailer is the idea of making the other player choice endings meaningless doesn't sit well with me, maybe they could have taken a page from dragon age Origin and had your experience in witcher 4 based on your Witcher 3 choices. Side note: An interesting thought I saw from others is the idea that Ciri underwent the trial of the grasses to remove/hide her elder blood to what end or why no one really knows since the chronology of the trailer isn't discernable just yet it could be at the start of the story like the "Killing Monsters" trailer or at the end like "A Night To Remember".
Really makes me think anyone who is upset that its Ciri and not Geralt probably has never actually played the games or read the books. It was always going to be Ciri, theyre just bandwagoning outrage.
Well considering that half those videos pronounce Geralt's name "Jerald" (which is ironic, since that was literally a joke in a Witcher 3 quest because the devs got annoyed with people saying the name wrong), I tend to agree.
Im with you on most points But making Ciri an actual witcher just seems wrong to me It feels like CDPR wanted Ciri as protagnonist, wich is fine, with me, but then just went with "we´ll make something up to explain how she became a witcher" ignoring the lore as I understand it
@@LeutnantJoker Yeah, but doesnt it create all kinds of paradoxes and questions ? I mean, shouldent she be sterile as a witcher, then how can she be the mother of the choosen one then ? How did the trial of grasses work on her ? when Ciri drank the Water of Brokilon, it did nothing to her I neither cant see why if it was possible, she would become a witcher, it seems to be a huge downgrade from her semi-deity-status, and more of a curse than a blessing I guess they can just "expand the lore"
@@yukibird0 Well, ithline's prophecy was intended to be BS in the books, just like destiny and such. Sapkowski challenged those fantasy tropes on purpose. it's stated in the books that later generations considered Ithline's prophecy superstition once science learned that the White Frost was simply an approaching Ice Age. But yes, this will definitely be a major change. The infertility is actually what bothers me the most, since Yennefer suffered under that so much, that I cannot imagine her letting Ciri do this. But... it seems the devs are at least aware of these issues. We'll have to wait how they answer them.
Yes... I'm sure you know better than the people who created witcher 3 and cyberpunk.... 2 of the greatest games ever made....... ...... BuT GiRlS cAnT bE WiTcHeRs.... OMG THE LORE....... .. You sound like a Taylor Swift fan criticizing a Beethoven piano sonatas... .
Geralt died in the books, the fist game basically resurrected him, kinda lore braking isn't it? Need to understand that lore is bendable to serve a purpose
yeah im at the point that the anti woke people are just has annoying has the super woke. they both go overboard. ciri looks fantastic in my opinion and her being the witcher proves my witcher 3 ending is canon
Theory, it will go off your save file. Bad endimg, Ciri returns but has lost her power from the frost and becomes a Witcher, Empress ending she is overthrown by Nilfgaardian mages, who take the elder blood, and has an assassin chasing her, so she becomes a Witcher. Witcher ending, she becomes a Witcher but has an assassin after her.
@@LeutnantJokersorry my guy but fence sitting is what exactly got us the Rey Skywalkers and why DEI global mafia was established. you can bury your head in the sand but bastardization of the things you love will continue if you dont pushback.
@@player1enjoyer It isn't fence sitting to let developers explain a change they made and then *maybe* get mad afterwards. Witcher games arent cannon. They changed the lore in many ways previously. They said they will explain in due to time why and how it happened. The problem with Rey isn't that she broke the rules. She was simply not a well written character. Stop hodgepodging every single media together as if there is any similarities between Star Wars and the Witcher lmao.
@@epilisium have you CDPR apologists even played the Witcher games? Why is your default answer basically "corporate is always right" ? Why do you even play the games if you don't care about cannon?
@@vladmods why do you losers always bring everything to pro corp or anti corp? I literally say wait for their explanation and get mad afterwards if the explanation isn’t good. How is that me saying corporations are always correct?
Great video, earned a sub for sure. And man do I agree with you about the anti-woke being just as unhinged as the woke. Ciri looks like a beautiful badass in her 30s to me ❤
Thank you for the sub. I cannot promise there will be a lot of content, until Witcher 4 approaches release or we get more info, but once that happens, I will absolutely go into it, and of course have a Let's play of the game :) I'm considering replaying a modded version of Witcher 3 classic at some point. We'll see.
Ppl complaining about her appearance calling themselves out as a cereal porn addict, cant get it up without unrealistic beauty. She looks beautiful and her look reflects her life
Geralt was shoved around by the tough women guards in the city of Crinfrid, and if they recreated that in Witcher 4, people in the US would probably be screaming murder-overreacting, of course! It’d be equal parts hilarious and chaotic to see the outrage unfold!
That scene was kinda hilarious (especially them helping Geralt in the end when Coral ran like a coward). And yes, I'm kinda tired of Americans projecting their own politics on everything. Some people now complain on the OTHER side that everybody who doesn't like Ciri as a main character is MAGA, as if anybody in Poland or Spain gave a rat's ass about Trump. These things are getting riduculous.
It's not that even their pros and cons are false from the very start. There are a lot of such people who know lore very well and joined fandom a long time ago. The point is, according to what Witcher stories told us btw, that people always ONLY DECORATE their views and desires with arguments.
@@LeutnantJoker I mean, if people don't like something, they always can find facts that serve to justify their opinion against it. It is a matter of interpretation
It's clearly not, people aren't complaining that it isn't Geralt, because it's been announced he wasn't gonna be the protagonist ages ago. The main complain seems to be either that it is not going to be a custom created character or that Ciri won't work as a protagonis. There is also the gamergate gooners brigade, but they aren't worth mentioning.
Geralt not being in the game was announced 10 years ago. So anybody who is disappointed by that simply didn't pay any attention. CDPR clearly communicated that, and Blood and Wine's ending should make that pretty obvious as well.
It's so funny how people think Cyberpunk was some kind of flop, while it has sold 30 million units with an extra 8 million of Phantom Liberty. It was a huge success, and most people (well, the mentally stable people) have forgiven them for buckling under to their shareholders who basically threatened to pull out of CDPR if they didn't release the game.
I never believed it was a flop, nor did I particularly blame the launch intself. What I didn't like was the lies before and during release, which thankfully lead to some personell changes and to some people taking responsibility. I didn't really care much beyond that since Cyberpunk just isn't my genre, so I was never particularly interested in that game to begin with.
Tbh I prefer the Witcher 3 trailer Geralt over the in-game release Geralt, he was a more fiercer look there. While I do agree it is getting ridiculous, the pattern of women/lesbians/gays/people of color/apache helicopters taking the main role in games in recent years hasn't really been what one would call "successful". On top of that their devs and publishers collectively shtting on people who point that out weren't helping either. Almost everyone in the AAA category hasn't release a hit other than Fromsoftware in recent memory, just cash grabs. Pretty much everyone who played all 3 games can conclude Ciri is the next MC after the White Wolf hangs his swords. I believe the timing was not great for its reveal.
That entire "devs shitting on people" was completely overblown. I've seen that and the other side was acting like an idiot, so I'm not interested in that nonsensical Twitter exchanges. As for Ciri being a girl and being lesbian.. well blame Sapkowski for that. He wrote her like that as the main character of the books and as a lesbian/bisexual 30 years ago already. YOu can hardly blame CDPR for that. And the decision to make her the next main character was made 10 years ago, long before Woke and Gender Swaps in entertainment were even a thing. You can call it bad timing, but none of this can be blamed on CDPR.
Why did they alter Geralt's face twice from Witcher 1 and made him look completely different and 10 years older in the W3 trailers? Who cares about a jawline? Maybe they scanned the face of the voice actress for motion capture and this worked better. Maybe it was simple the design decision of a new artist. Why does EVERYTHING have to have an evil reason. I'm sorry but this obsession with jaw lines and nose bridges is absolutely ridiculous.
@LeutnantJoker It's not an obsession I just like things to be done in the spirit of what Ciri used to look like in the witcher 3. It looks like the writers have gone down the path of forced DEI and milked the ESG money for support.
if you see forced DEI in a jawline, then you need to rethink a few things. Characters get slight redesigns in games all the time, and that very much includes the Witcher. Have you seen Geralt in Witcher 1? you could also complain about Triss' clownish red hair in Witcher 3, or Dandelion's clothes or why in the narrative Dandalion has a different voice actor than in the actual game, unlike in Witcher 2. Roche also doesn't look exactly like he did in Witcher 2, nor does Ves.
This video is perfect for calling out the ridiculous wannabe woke warriors. I'm a huge fan of The Witcher series and super excited for The Witcher 4. I usually ignore the woke stuff people make videos on to complain about but when I saw the ridiculous outrage over Ciri being the main protagonist in Witcher 4, I had to start adding my two cents in. Woke use to actually mean something, but now people just throw the word around whenever something upsets them. "Oh no, I have to play as a different gender in a witcher game, how now will I feel manly when not being able to play as a fictional male character in a fictional world setting??? This game has gone WOKE!" "Oh no, Ciri doesn't look like the oversexualized fan art!!! This game has gone WOKE! Females aren't suppose to be able to become witchers!!! This game has gone WOKE!" That's pretty much what the woke warriors sound like nowadays. They've complained about companies doing woke messages so much to the point they've become just as annoying as the companies themselves hollering woke at everything smh.
Seems like every game is making the main character female which is my problem. I was hoping for them to either have a new witcher or allow us to make our own. Ciri becoming a witcher seems like a downgrade from what she was which was basically a goddess
In case of female cahracter, that's just a matter of bad timing. The decision was made long ago. They didn't know back then waht the gaming landscape would be like today. In terms of Ciri becoming a mutated witcher and the reasons for that, I agree and we need to wait what the story behind that is.
Siri is very beautiful in the trailer I don't understand why they are talking like this and why are they objecting that he is the next main character Did they really play The Witcher that I played? Siri is his dream to become a witcher and when I played The Witcher 3 and controlled Siri, all my hope was that the next game would have the main heroine character be Siri and this happened and I am very happy My fear is that they lost the developers of The Witcher 3 in addition to the new engine that I never liked, especially since the developers are talking about targeting the modern audience What does this mean? A modern audience and new players What about your fans? I don't want the Witcher to become a game in which conversations are shortened and made into an action game only, etc. They repeated this in more than one interview The topic of new players and I did not like it. As for testing herbs or Siri's strength and how she became a witcher as all the endings do not conflict at all with her becoming a witcher and the nonsense of the current trend that everything is agendas which are basically present and part of the experience in the previous parts and in the books, I do not object This is what made The Witcher Addressing racism And the wrong beliefs, as you said, I would like to present them in a unique story, even Siri is basically bisexual, and I hope that the player and the choice are the ones who will determine. I do not want them to impose something, as they have a great opportunity for this.
All these channels and fans having "faith" in a Corporation. Yeeesh didn't y'all learn your lesson from Cyberpunk? No preorder. No day 1. No trust in embargoed reviews. They gotta PROVE they know what they're doing.
What "y'all" do you mean exactly? I stated in the video that people shouldn't pre-order, so how about you watch a video before commenting and looking stupid on the internet. I'm getting sick and tired of people commenting stuff on a video they obviously didn't even watch.
I'm just baffled how closed minded people are. Like how is it woke? Because focus on ciri (who became witcher in one of the wc3 endings and the books)? Because she is not a fashion model? (she got older, jesus. Also trailers rarely look 1:1 to ingame models ). Because apparently women can't become witchers? (it was never stated like that, people can't read). Is this some joke or people genuinely think witcher 4 is bad and woke based on one trailer?
This so disingenuous. The company literally has it's agenda plastered all over it's website. 10 years ago, this would not have been a problem for anyone but people are sick of it. They've even changed the lore that helped them sell 60 million copies in the first place. They are free to sell to a "modern audience" but don't complain when people don't buy it. People like you are quick to say "I don't see the problem" but you don't show up with your wallets in the end.
I find it telling that the trailer emphasizes the folly of blindly adhering to TRADITION, even to the extent of a parent sacrificing their own child. Perhaps we should be more open-minded and accept that Ciri can be a different kind of Witcher. But I know how 'gamers' can be very set in their ways...dare I say, conservative?
If you want to just vent your dislike of conservative people, I suggest you do it elsewhere. This is about a game, not about your personal politics. Nobody cares who you vote for.
@@LeutnantJoker Calm down, I was talking about gamers clutching their pearls if anyone DARES to tweak their precious game. Had nothing to do with politics.
People are upset because they think the Witcher suddenly went woke, but the Witcher 3 was woke as hell. These people either didn't notice or forgot, but this isn't any more woke than it already was. A bunch of oversensitive man children who are freaking out over literally nothing. We have a 6 minute cinematic and no further details. Are there questions that need answering? Yes. But that's kinda the point of a trailer. Let's wait to hear more before we do any lynching of the studio.
Woke doesn't really have a solid definition in the public zeitgeist. I'm using this in the same way the anti-wokers do. I'm saying it is woke because it treats these subjects in a generally positive light. Oppression of women and minorities is bad, women have autonomy and major influence in the world, gay people exist and aren't villains. I think we're pretty much on the same page here other than semantics. Great video overall.
There's no story told in the witcher that can be woke. The book in itself is woke. The only thing that can be 'woke' enough to damage the story is mixing races in small villages. Asidss that, any story goes. Women in the story are girl bosses that talk down on men, kings and Geralt already. So...
I think you might want to watch the video again. I already pointed out that the book had progressive topics, it doesn't take sides (woke does). The characters have opinions in the books, the author never injects his own. There are just as many conservative characters in the books as there are progressive ones. I was pointing out that the ISSUES were addressed in the books and seeing the issues being covered in the games doesn't make them woke in themselves. If you consider the books woke, then that's your personal bias talking. There's plenty of people who called the books mysoginistic and sexist, because THEIR bias has been talking. People seem to have a hard time in general differenciating author opinion from character opinion. The lodge of sorceresses is openly sexist against men. Does that mean Sapkowski thinks men are over-emotional and incapable of taking responsibility? I doubt it.
Actually no, it shouldn't. A witch is called Wiedzma in Polish. Ciri is a Witcheress which is Wiedzminka, a term created by Sapkowski alongside Wiedzmin. So please don't claim things you haven't checked. The female form of Witcher (Wiedźmin) is not Witch (Wiedźma), it's Witcheress (Wiedźminka).
In my opinion, this video is both funny and nonsensical. An attack on the ‘anti-woke brigade’, but one that works just as well against yourself. But before I expand on this (in my reply to this comment), let me first answer your question about Ciri's lore. I've only played TW3, and have never read the books, so for me it's quite enough if Ciri from TW4 can be explained by Ciri from TW3. As you yourself pointed out, the CDPR Ciri is very different from the book Ciri, and that difference will probably continue to grow, not shrink. During Ciri's miniquest (before they steal the horses) she has a conversation with Geralt, describing how everyone only sees her as a tool to use her Elder Blood power. In my opinion, this Ciri would immediately agree to the trial of the grasses if only this problem could be solved. Either by neutralising the abilities of the Elder Blood, or by giving her even more abilities to confront and defeat her own monsters. In addition, the trial should be safe, i.e. not just have a 3 out of 10 chance. Due to the character development in TW3 (at the beginning she only flees from the Wild Hunt, after Vesemir's death she attacks!) I would prefer the second option. As I said, I don't know if this is in any fundamental contradiction to the Book Ciri, that's for you to decide.
Now to the actual topic: your reckoning with a few elements of the anti-woke side. I find it very funny how you expose the absurd, sometimes hateful, comments about the TW4 trailer. The nonsensical part comes into play there in my opinion because I think you believe similarly absurd ideas as the ‘Woke agenda’. Private companies, especially when they are traded on the stock markets, have only one purpose: to make as much money as quickly as possible! If anyone believes that such a company would voluntarily give up money to spread some social or political message, that person is, forgive my candour, an idiot. So if such a message is actually in a product, it's only because that product makes a higher profit than the same product without that message. In other words, if some people are clearly against this message, then they must inevitably represent such a small minority that you can do without them as customers, because at the same time you gain significantly more other customers who agree with this message. Admittedly, companies sometimes misspeculate, but as a rule the stock markets show how successful these companies are at making money. Historically, the term ‘woke’, like the term ‘political correctness’, has been used as a backlash against social change. Take, for example, the desegregation of the USA, when children had to be escorted to schools by armed soldiers. While society in the US as a whole has clearly moved away from these conditions, those who supported segregation have not simply disappeared. Gradually, these people have faced more and more backlash for publicly stating their racist positions. To deal with this, the right-wing backlash industry was formed. If someone claims that people are equal regardless of their skin colour, this is branded as ‘politically correct’ or nowadays as ‘woke’, while at the same time redefining themselves: You're no longer a racist (or misogynist, homophobe, etc.), but simply oppose ‘political correctness’ or ‘wokeness’. As these people naturally prefer to use dog whistles instead of speaking plainly, other people can also be attracted and end up in this right-wing internet swamp. After all, for most of the phrases they use (inner cities, CRT, DEI etc), there isn't a clear Definition of what they actually mean, or a hidding meaning, that is made up by the right-wing. "Brexit" is a very good example for that from the UK, the very same people who argued that "Brexit means Brexit" switched their tune after Brexit actually happend to "That is not the Brexit we voted for!". While the lack of a clear definition helps to attract as many people as possible to their cause, it also creates a massive problem in legal texts. I recommend to check out some of the bills and laws by the anti-woke side, if you actually believe this side has a point in the first place.
Well you didn't explain to me where I'm contradicting and funny and nonsensical so I cannot address that. As for Ciri, I thinkk you're forgetting the biggest issue: The trial of grasses renders you infertile, and I believe it deserves a good explanation for Ciri to make that sacrifice, considering both her parents, especially Yennefer, suffered lifelong from that consequence.
@@LeutnantJoker I see, YT blocked my comment. Maybe I rephrase my comment and reply later sorry. As for Ciri, given her own situation in TW3 is caused by her genes, don't you think she might question the very idea of having kids? On top of that, her experience as an adopted child in Kaer Morhen were pretty good, were they not? She can always go down the same road as Yen and Geralt did., imo.
I'm not saying she might have issues with having kids, I'm just saying it's a decision with a big lore implication and therefore needs a very well written explanation.
"Look guys, even though we're doing all the things you're noticing, doesn't mean that's the reason we're doing the things your noticing! It's just a coincidence! We aren't Woke, we swear! Just ignore our hiring practices for the past 6 years! And ignore the donations we've made! And ignore the fact all of our talent just all mysteriously left over a short period despite our company having been previously known for one of the highest employee retention rates in the industry! Stop noticing all of that!" What do you mean woke isn`t a issue look at what that did to movies like marvel..tv shows...games...you been living under a rock not seeing what those radical hate filled extremist views are and try to push in their writing.
CDPR has nothing to do with hollywood, claiming they lost talent recently is factually wrong, that happened after Cyberpunk and Witcher 3, which was ages ago, the lead writing team is still fully intact since Witcher 2 and sorry that I don't judge someone before they actually do something. Do I like the ESG stuff on their website? No. Do I like their marketing messaging on places like LinkedIn? No. Do I see woke stuff in this trailer? No. I will call things out if and when I see them, not before.
The Witcher books have feminist characters in them. Big difference. The author never takes sides, nor does the narrative. Characters do. That's what makes the books well written in the first place.
It is incredibly annoying listening to the grifters cry about wokeness. As you say, there are lore implications. I have faith CDPR can write them well. Dont even want to acknowledge 'ciri is ugly' argument ha
From what I've seen in the interviews, they seem to be genuine about their writing still. I don't like some of their marketing BS on their website and some of the crap they do on linkedin and other places, but when I hear the people talk that actually work on the games... I feel they're genuine. So at the moment I believe they have a good idea for this. It'll just depend on whether I like that idea or not. But I do NOT believe at the moment that Ciri as a character has anything to do with woke stuff. If that ever changes, I'll call it out, but it's no the vibe I'm getting at the moment. And yes, the Ciri ugly stuff is idiotic.
The "anti-woke" creeps are so strange. Like... normal people don't start measuring skull distance on a character from a pre-rendered cinematic. These "anti-woke" weirdos need to seek mental help, while the rest of us enjoy the game.
Why are dancing around the table obvious chip in the wall no this isn’t woke but why is she using signs and having been confirmed to taken the trail of the grass again the big issue isn’t gender if you played 3 you knew either her or a actual Witcher was gonna pick up the mantle but to sit up here and not focus on the lore breaking is crazy
@@LeutnantJokerI’ve watched your video but I’m bringing up more focus to your first half of the video how are you going to compare Gerald’s aging three games to her aging in 1
ah yes it's garbage cuz my favourite franchise is being called out for the wrong turn it's making, gotta lay off that copium. You do understand that pattern recognition is a thing?
Is it really “pattern recognition” when they use a well established, fan-favourite character to take the reigns after the original protagonist retired?
Yes I know what pattern recognition is. Even studied it, even used it in computer algorithms. And therefore I probably know also that, especially in humans, our pattern recognition is overtuned, i.e. creating a ton of false positives, because evolution decided it's better to get scared once in a while over nothing than to have a false negative and get eaten by a bear. So if you think your pattern recognition is flawless and will never make you overreact, then biology begs to differ.
@@LeutnantJoker so far said concept never failed the community in recognising when a woke slop is coming, don't get me wrong the witcher i something i live and breathe cuz i am from slavic parts and i resonate the most with this franchise but i'm not gonna huff that copium and ignore cdprs website, their videos and their hiring choices just to curl up in a fetal position rock back and forth and whisper to myself "it's gonna be fine". Gotta face reality head on sometimes.
They should have just continued the original plot that didn't involve the original characters. They could have had a time skip, started a new conjunction of the spheres, and done a story about someone trying to recreate the functionally (or totallly) extinct Witchers Making Ciri into an actual witcher is even more contradictory to the original lore than retconning Geralt's death in the riot. That being said, most of the criticism coming at the trailer is baseless speculation and nothing more. There are real issues to be concerned about regarding existing lore, and people are going off on stuff that they are just assuming?
My thoughts exactly. We'll have to wait and see how they explain the changes to Ciri becoming a full witcher. Personally I would have preferred a prequel taking place around the time the first witchers were created, since there's a lot to explore there, including the first powerful sorcerers that Vilgefortz mentions to Geralt, like Stammelford, DeVries, Alzur and all those others. Even Falka and all that stuff, not to mention potential gameplay mechanic chances of doing coop-play with another witcher since there will be more of them around. But.. we got what we got, and now we will have to wait what it turns into. From what I know the writing team is still the same as it was in Witcher 2 and 3, as well as Cyberpunk so these guys certainly know their lore and how to write amazing grand storylines. If they continue that trend.. great. But I still want that prequel game at some point, maybe they'll do a spin off eventually, who knows.
People call so many female characters ugly that at this point I am certain they need to get their eyesight checked. Like she doesn't look like baby face anime girl, she looks like a model with sharper face features, so for me even better, but again why does it matter at all? Why is number 1 thing they care about when it is female protagonist that she is hot? Like when it comes to character design im witcher games for me it is much more important monsters look cool than how geralt/ciri look. Like good stories don't have to orbit around good looking people.
Also she's a warrior too, not a Victoria Secret model. I still think Ciri looks attractive in this trailer, plus this isn't the same Ciri from the Witcher 3, she's older now and has been more seasoned by life on the road. My one hang up is the whole her being a Witcher (I got the ending for Witcher 3 where she becomes a Witcher). But the knowledge to create more Witchers was lost in the form of the trial of the grasses maybe it has something to do with her Elder Blood, but I'm willing to take a moment to reserve judgment until more information and actual gameplay is made public.
Because they're EXTREMELY tired, hurt and frustrated by The Message pushing ugly +/ trans +/ lesbians on them in most of the modern AAA games. Basically an allergy, an extreme reaction to a mild inconvenience.
@rebellious_red7123 yeah in IGN interview they said that there will be explanation how she ends up being a witcher, also it jas been like 100 years since end of witcher 3 and people still bitched about her looking older and having different VA. It has gotten so stale with the critiques of this protagonist looks like this and it is so woke and it is always same stuff. They don't have anything to say about message of the game and how it portrays certain idea, there is no depth in their analysis, it is like writing a book review where only thing you talk about is font and size of letters. It is so sad and infuriating at the same time.
@@wingedhussar1453 You can literally google trailer reaction and find tons of women and men who are super excited to play as her AND who said that they wanted to play as her in their Let's Play of Witcher 3. So stop projecting your own biases. I personally would have preferred a new character myself, but I don't claim that was the general view. And NOBODY that paid ANY attention expected it to be Geralt. CDPR said that Geralt's story is over and he won't be a protagonist anymore 10 years! ago. And most people loved that because we thought Geralt's story was great and had a perfect ending. It's just people who only played Witcher 3 instead of the entire trilogy that are now butt hurt because they want more than one game with Geralt. Well, your problem. I played 3 games with Geralt already, so I don't need another one.

Honestly? I think people think too much into all the "uh, she ugly" comments... it's a reflex at this point, and I can see where it comes from. It's a fact that games with female leads, especially when said game belongs to a series with an original male lead, have a harder time in the market these days, and the industry is largely to blame for that. Sure, all that upfront animosity and skepticism might not be warrented with Witcher 4, but I fear that can no longer be helped... especially considering that the game might be at least 2 years out at this point.
a reasonable witcher 4 video thats not 1 extreme or the other ? amazing
I try my best. I'm so sick and tired of EVERYTHING drifting to either side these days...
I don’t really care about anything else other than if Ciri can successfully retrieve a frying pan. If she can do this, Geralt can rest easy.
Dude, THANK YOU, for saying everything I've been thinking. The idea that everyone thats different expects every1 else to tiptoe around them is SO OLD. Great vid!
Thank you for this video. My feed is full of grifters complaining about W4. It getting rather annoying, bc most of them are very misinformed.
Yours too? I had to ”do not recommend” the most unhinged ones 😂 cant stand the hate bandwagon during xmas time
It has gotten ridiculous indeed, that's why I felt I needed to address this.
She looks worse than Yen in the Witcher 3 cinematic.. who’s older..
@@Outright__ Yen is literally using magic to enhance how she looks?.... Your point is completely garbage

Frankly I don't even see how she looks super old anyway. To me she looks like a normal 28-31 year old. People claiming she looks like 50 are completely nuts. They should go to Poland and check out what Slavic women in their 20s and 30s look like. She looks like late 20s.
I personally still prefer the witcher 3 look but whoever says she looks ugly in this trailer, needs their eyes adjusted 😂

That's kind of what I'm saying in this video?
@@LeutnantJoker yeah ik, my comment was in favor of the video not against it.

For money
What I don't get is everyone else who isn't profiting for the rage bait they amplify.
But yes, there's always a fatherly feeling, I've been with Geralt for too long :) (All the more creepy how everybody just treats her like their favorite porn star)
The reason why I was worried when I saw her as a full witcher is the same reason I suspect Geralt would feel worried.. I wanted her to be able to have a family. Certainly not go through the same torture her father had to endure and end up as infertile and regretful as her mother.
@ that’s a good perspective that I didn’t even think about!
Wtf ?))
You literally have not seen any gameplay to make that judgement. None have been made yet. What are you even talking about?
Came here for a trailer analysis, got that AND one of the more coherent cultural critiques I’ve found. Ten points.
Also, beauty may be subjective but Ciri is hot (and definitely not old) in the new trailer. People have lost their minds.
I would have guessed her around 28-32. Also thank you for the praise.
Also half of them call out favorite witcher "Jerald" in their videos... that tells you all you need to know
I love the term “tourist” ….
My god all of yall are worse just assumptions on every comment cringe
Great video, always happy too see a nuanced thought out opinion.
I genuinely don't understand why people are pissy about Geralt not being in the spotlight, did you play blood and wine? He literally says to Regis that he wants to eventually retire with yen and they even include a 4th wall brake when he says goodbye...
That being said my only gripe with the Witcher 4 trailer is the idea of making the other player choice endings meaningless doesn't sit well with me, maybe they could have taken a page from dragon age Origin and had your experience in witcher 4 based on your Witcher 3 choices.
Side note:
An interesting thought I saw from others is the idea that Ciri underwent the trial of the grasses to remove/hide her elder blood to what end or why no one really knows since the chronology of the trailer isn't discernable just yet it could be at the start of the story like the "Killing Monsters" trailer or at the end like "A Night To Remember".
On No a woman in my video games ITS WOKE ..
Im with you on most points
But making Ciri an actual witcher just seems wrong to me
It feels like CDPR wanted Ciri as protagnonist, wich is fine, with me, but then just went with "we´ll make something up to explain how she became a witcher" ignoring the lore as I understand it
That's my biggest gripe at the moment as well. So the story will win or lose me based on the explanation of why this happened.
@@LeutnantJoker Yeah, but doesnt it create all kinds of paradoxes and questions ?

Fair, that's why I'm asking people to not jump to conclusions before we know more in the video.
Geralt is The Witcher for millions of players and wanted again in IV. That is what is driving the controversy.
But why did they alter her jawline from the witcher 3?
Thanks for an adult take on that topic.
Ciri is actually bi in the books apparently
Bi or lesbian, open to interpretation yes. I've mentioned that in the video.
This game has gone WOKE!"
"Oh no, Ciri doesn't look like the oversexualized fan art!!! This game has gone WOKE! Females aren't suppose to be able to become witchers!!! This game has gone WOKE!"
That's pretty much what the woke warriors sound like nowadays.
She's called Ciri
The music on this video was a bit distracting 😅
Yeah sorry, the audio got messed up a bit, not sure what happeneed there. I tried to clear it up but could only get so far. Sorry for that.
Witcher 3 had progressive topics. It wasn't woke. People really need to understand the difference.
Ciri now looks like Anita Sarkeesian. WTF!
I doubt it.
The game should be called "The Witch"...
@LeutnantJoker Ok so it should be called Witcheress.
I unlocked your previous comment. You say I believe in similar absurd ideas. Care to elaborate?
"Look guys, even though we're doing all the things you're noticing, doesn't mean that's the reason we're doing the things your noticing! It's just a coincidence! We aren't Woke, we swear! Just ignore our hiring practices for the past 6 years! And ignore the donations we've made! And ignore the fact all of our talent just all mysteriously left over a short period despite our company having been previously known for one of the highest employee retention rates in the industry! Stop noticing all of that!"
What do you mean woke isn`t a issue look at what that did to movies like marvel..tv shows...games...you been living under a rock not seeing what those radical hate filled extremist views are and try to push in their writing.
No.
I will call things out if and when I see them, not before.
you sound like a radical, hate-filled extremist btw
Actually the Witcher books are quite on the feminist side, it's just not preaching
The Witcher books have feminist characters in them. Big difference. The author never takes sides, nor does the narrative. Characters do. That's what makes the books well written in the first place.
@LeutnantJoker fair point, the lodge stated that are men are dumb which was actually a fair point in the context
And yes, the Ciri ugly stuff is idiotic.
the most based video about w4 so far
I'm an old dude, so I still am not 100% sure what "based" even means exactly, but thank you :D
@LeutnantJoker it means down to earth and propper researched in this context
The "anti-woke" creeps are so strange. Like... normal people don't start measuring skull distance on a character from a pre-rendered cinematic. These "anti-woke" weirdos need to seek mental help, while the rest of us enjoy the game.
Bro!!! Thank you!
Apparently you didn't watch the video, since I'm addressing this.
@@quackenbloke7871 i'm not talking about ciri being the mc, i expected ciri to be mc since i first beat tw3 in 2016
@@LeutnantJoker so far said concept never failed the community in recognising when a woke slop is coming, don't get me wrong the witcher i something i live and breathe cuz i am from slavic parts and i resonate the most with this franchise but i'm not gonna huff that copium and ignore cdprs website, their videos and their hiring choices just to curl up in a fetal position rock back and forth and whisper to myself "it's gonna be fine". Gotta face reality head on sometimes.
They should have just continued the original plot that didn't involve the original characters. They could have had a time skip, started a new conjunction of the spheres, and done a story about someone trying to recreate the functionally (or totallly) extinct Witchers
Making Ciri into an actual witcher is even more contradictory to the original lore than retconning Geralt's death in the riot.
Because they don't get girls IRL! That's why they care so much.
You act like she wasn’t attractive in 3.
Ciri comes off as geralt from wish. Its a joke cdred did this. Nobody wants to play annoying ciri for 100 hours
Uhm, that statement is very wrong. There are plenty of people who want exactly that and have stated so for the past 9 years. YOU don't want that.
@LeutnantJoker now show me the lest of ppl who don't want to play as geralt. Few want ciri
@@wingedhussar1453I love Geralt but I want to play as Ciri. We knew there won't be any more games with Geralt as a protagonist almost 10 years ago
