      John Cristopher Listen punk. Since that film I've been addicted to drugs, gone to prison, sobered up, wrote books, got married, had two really ugly children and done tons of charity work. My life amounts to more than some shitty 80's film, yet jackasses such as yourself still shout that fucking catch phrase wherever I fucking go. How would you like it?
      "HEY YOU GUYS! HEY YOU GUYS! HEY YOU FUCKING GUYS!!!"
      Jackass...

      agreed, my biggest beef with climate change and environmental advocates is they never seem to offer solutions besides largely unhelpful things like recycling. Would like to see some of these groups advocating for certain types of research or making funds that could be use to subsidize new cleaner power sources and thins like that.

    • @spyemerson2454
      @spyemerson2454 9 років тому +2

      cloudedjourney there are a lot of really simple, small things we all can do to make a giant impact. recycling is one, of course. but knowing exactly what you are buying, from who, not driving cars as often, connecting with people and creating labor organizations in your own work place. being aware and active towards doing good, for all, is the most important change we can make. i have lived a very different lifestyle than most people, so I already employ all of these practices, it's not so difficult, and it feels great.

      99% of environmental scientists do know a lot about climate change and our role in it and what we should be doing to stop it.... unfortunately it is the 1% who go along with the line that we are innocent in the process whose voices are most loudly broadcast by the mainstream media :(

    Russell, I love the Trews and find loads of inspiration from all the different people you have on. Could we have someone from the Green Party ( Caroline Lucas, Jenny Jones, Natalie Bennett ?) on to explain the green manifesto and maybe have a bit of discussion around that ? You say there is no party worth voting for but the Greens seem to support many of the issues Trews cover. Why not challenge someone to a discussion ? would be interesting ? there is a lot of attention being given to Farage and UKIP in general on Trews but barely a mention of Greens so come on,don't be like the mainstream media with a blackout , lets have some balance . Love Jen

  • @CheapVinylRecordsUK

    Russell Brand Hi Russell, I have an idea. As you talk so often of getting people to take activism into their own hands, why not end every episode of the Trews by leaving a link to get your subscribers to take some direct action to help facilitate bigger change? For example, leave a link in each episode to enable people to switch to green energy suppliers, leave a link to help people switch to ethical bank accounts? Leave a link to a 38 degrees campaign you think is worthy? Maybe replace your 'subscribe to the Trews' spiel with a direct action for every episode? You've got half a million and counting on board now and that many people speaking together can make all the difference - even if is only keyboard activism to start with, it can be the start of something big. x

  • @foctordish
    @foctordish 9 років тому +3

    Russell, I don't know who did the sound for you there, but as I'm sure you're aware from your extensive media career, you can get much smaller mics that clip onto your clothes and sound brilliant. The things in your latest video obscured both of your lovely faces and sounded a bit shit, or maybe someone wasn't keeping an eye on the levels. I'm a soundman for TV - not touting for work, don't worry - I'd be happy to assist via email in any technical challenge you may encounter whilst doing yer Trews. Your message is coming across loud and clear, and is inspiring and entertaining, but the Medium is as important, and while it all looks nice and that, sound issues can be distracting and subliminally irritating to the viewer. Or in this case visually. When I watch TV, I like to play "spot the mic" under someone's lapel, or try and work out how the sound's being done. This video was like the easy tutorial toddler level of that game. Keep up the true news, Love, Al.

      Yeah. I posted a comment about this before I saw yours. Those mics were absurd. I didn't get a clear look at that lady's face for the whole show! Can't believe no one even tried to adjust it. ''There we go, right in front of her face...Action!''

    • @foctordish
      @foctordish 9 років тому

      I realised after I posted this that they were recording a much longer interview that was on soundcloud. I listened to that, and the sound is great through those mics. I guess they took a feed from the recorder into the camera they were using and set the levels too hot. It still looked wrong though.

      Books. Start with some second-hand uni textbooks - look for the textbooks for political science, and it wouldn't hurt to grab a couple of first-year economics textbooks too. (Get them second-hand; they're ridiculously expensive new.) My politics textbook this year was pretty good - Global Politics in the 21st Century. It's not too expensive but you'd probably still get it cheaper second-hand.
      Besides Klein's books (This Changes Everything's references section is practically a reading list on its own; I haven't read No Logo, but Shock Doctrine was a very good if very, very dark read) it would also be a good idea to grab Piketty's Capital in the 21st Century and Oreskes' Merchants of Doubt. (Michael Goodwin also has a really good comic called Economix which is an alright intro to major economic issues - it's US-centric, but it's a good start.) You could also throw in Joseph Stiglitz's Price of Inequality if you want. Most of these are available for free online if you know where to look ;)
      Idle No More is a really good place for information, and 350.org has some good information as well (although their site is a bit harder to navigate). It's also worth reading the most recent IPCC report - they can be a bit dry but they're worth it. Nature is one of the few free-access peer-reviewed journals, and they often have some pretty good pieces. (Unfortunately, subscriptions to most other peer-reviewed journals are very expensive.)
      Inequality For All, Inside Job and Years of Living Dangerously are all good documentaries to consider adding to that, or if you prefer film to books. (And if I remember rightly, they're all right here on UA-cam.)
      That should give you a pretty good start, and from there you should be able to start looking for resources on your own.
      The main thing is being able to critically evaluate what you're reading - who wrote it, what their biases may be, where their information is coming from and how reliable it is, and what they're saying - as well as examining your own biases in choosing what to read.

    1. Don't separate the sound to left speaker and right speaker - neutralize it, make it all mono.
    2. It's a bit echo-y. And it also seems as if you compressed it poorly. Try Adobe Audition - the Radio effect.

    To those questioning Brand's position as a rich, white celebrity, and any contradictions one might find in his arguments about established power - here is a quote from Owen Jones' The Establishment. "It is not someone's background, or their education, or even whether they have a public platform or a degree of influence, that defines whether they are part of the establishment. It is about power and mentality"
    Brand certainly doesn't have the mentality of the Establishment, so any arguments rejecting his ideas based in his wealth or past occupations are invalid.

    No matter what the problems are: climate, inequality, lack of clean water, air getting worst: it is multiplied by the fact that we have 7 billion people on the planet. In the next 40 years we must produce as much food as we have produced in the last 8,000 years. Hello? Look at all the societies in the past: they implode on themselves. There is enough for all but only if ALL share and help their fellow humans. We are in this together. Don't let this be the last generation. NOW.

    Hey Russell, great that you're interviewing Naomi Klein. Really good conversation... I hope that you have a longer interview with her that you can post. Other people that'd be wonderful to see on The Trews are journalist Chris Hedges, socioengineer Jacque Fresco or his partner Roxanne Meadows, and Peter Joseph of The Zeitgeist Movement.

    Much love for the microphones and changes towards improving your audio. Whatever you are running your mics into should be selected as a mono channel or equally panned because in my headphones you're both little voices in each ear.

    Keep doing what you're doing it may be a long and arduous task to create a true utopia here on earth, but you have an army of like minded thinkers and revolutionaries behind you so lets Fight The Power!

    Russell! my housemates and i all tune into the trews every video. thank you for spreading light and love wherever you go. you are a beautiful example of somebody reaching toward their full potential, i find your efforts inspiring and encouraging and they are having a noticeable effect in the world i see.
    Now, I am wondering if you would ever do a trews newspaper, you could have a printable paper that people everywhere world can print and distribute. I work in a cafe where all the profits go to helping youths with addiction and homelessness, and our main customers are all in corporate jobs. I would love to be able to replace our terrible mainstream newspapers with the trews, first at my work, and then all around. It may be more accessible to people who are unaware of your channel or alternatives to current systems, only know mainstream media or are old fashioned and enjoy a good ol' paper with their coffee in the morn.
    anywho, just a suggestion.
    keep on spreading them rays o' light spaceman.

    Excellent interview Russell!
    Keep them coming like this! Please have more experts on issues that impact the human race like climate change. I become more frustrated every day that we have oil barons duping the American people on this issue and successfully buying our government to ensure we do nothing regarding climate change! We can no longer afford to politicise this issue and its time people become educated rather than listening to purchased statements by our politicians!

      Russell Brand was suddenly in New York, then he suddenly wasn't, and Naomi Klein isn't from Stratford I wouldn't have thought. "Yeah but, it's o.k. for me to do it" meanwhile Richard Branson is flying to Jupiter and is worshiped like a Sun God by Power Dressed Acolytes of da bidness. ahhhhhh Russell Brand what happened? it seemed like your microphone was turned off and the episode ended in the middle of Naomi's sentence! I love the show, been with yous since the beginning, but couldn't we give Naomi a bit more time?
    ALSO thank you so much for turning me on to "the untethered soul," "capital: in the 21rst century," and now "this changes everything."
    i'll be honest with you, cause I love you and you're a hero of mine. when I bought "revolution" I expected it to be like, a book i'd use as a break while making my way through Picketty's opus, BUT HOLY SHIT. what a beautiful combination of spirituality, activism, information and solution based direct action. as a recovering addict it's......much appreciated.
    cheers on an amazing piece of work.

    I find it fascinating how many people criticise the show, but still seem to come back to watch it.
    I guess it is the way that if you disagree with something you're more likely to comment on it than if you agree, so don't take these comments overly seriously people, there are many more people out there agreeing with the trews that just do not comment, so don't get disheartened. Chins up.

    I enjoy your videos a lot thanks for taking the time to make them. I couldn't help but noticing that this time your audio was spelt channel instead of stereo. Hey Russell, (Sophie here, ex-Old England resident now in New England!)
    I am so inspired by your knowledge, insight and genuine understanding of what is going on in the world today. You are so articulate and I wish that you would consider officially going into politics to try and bring change from within. This may be the only way to truly bring about long term positive actions. However, I am always so very confused when I listen to you talk with such insight and self-educated understanding on so many subject to then hear you mention your belief in God. What is going on here Russell? I wrongly assumed that surely a chap as smart as you on so many levels would naturally be an atheist. It's not like you are American and you have no choice but to pretend that you have faith in the supernatural to please the people who you want to take you seriously (like Barack Obama for example, I would put money on him being an atheist but there would be no way in hell that the USA would currently elect an anti-theist to be president!).
    God and religions were for a time when we had no answers but now we have science and these religions are no longer needed (except in very poor parts of the world to keep order and some kind of desperate hope to those people who are suffering).
    ~Peace.
