For the rail thing, yes rails floating in the sky randomly were always in Sonic games since Adventure 2 but their placements were always justified by the environment they were in. For example, Sky Rail makes it obvious that they were used as trolleys for whatever civilization lived there, same for Final Rush/Final Chase for transportation throughout the Space Colony ARK. Heroes' Rail Canyon makes it obvious that it's a train station. I could go on. They just need to place more structures where the rails are used so they look like they were actually once used for some other purpose and Sonic (and other characters hopefully) just use them AS grinding rails.
well we don’t really know any context yet, im gonna assume the reason there’s so much stuff just floating around seemingly at random is because this world sonic is in isn’t actually real

I had a sudden realisation of this game earlier today: why isn’t Frontiers a Knuckles spin-off game? Think about it: Sonic punching stuff, climbing up walls, collecting shard-looking objects and exploring around wide open terrain fits the red echidna like a (spiky white boxing) glove, and the fact that it’s such a severely missed opportunity is so aggravating, especially for new fans introduced to Knuckles via the Sonic 2 Movie. Heck, gliding in this game could’ve just been like that from BOTW but just part of the character’s natural move-set. Frontiers could’ve easily been about a lost ancient civilisation directly or in close relation to the Echidna Tribe, with Knux discovering pieces of his species’ ancient past and using/ fighting ancient machines and robots (Gizoids immediately come to mind).
It's because SEGA doesn't have any faith in Sonic's friends after 06. Ironically though, Shadow and Silver CARRIED 06 because their stories weren't hot trash.

I think another factor with the rails is that Sonic levels were previously linear and rails were placed in a way that was part of the path, you could tell they were going somewhere and taking rails would guide you forward. Here in an open space where you could go anywhere at any moment, there's not really a sense of going forward so... they're just... there.

Haven't heard anyone mention it yet but it looks like the green homing attack target is removed. Also the wall running looks like it just happens on walls that are coated with the same blue/purple stuff that Sonic runs/climbs up the tower on.
Thankfully, somewhat, it seems most of the incompetency seen so far can be chalked up to the marketing division. IGN confirmed that the build they were shown was an extremely early version, and was not representative of how the game looks and plays at current. So, there's that.
The thing with the rails is that we've always seen them in a frontal point of view because of the linear gameplay, we've never seen rails in an open space like this, but in reality this is how old game rails would look as well if the older games were as open as this one in particular
7:04 I really thought I was the only one who noticed or even worried about this detail. It's really concerning me for a ton of reasons. One, I'm scared this will take the freedom away from the player and make grinding rails a waiting session. And 2, if going backwards or the wrong way or a rail makes you go the same speed without any physics...could that become an issue? I know it seems like a small issue or even a nitpick but it seems like grinding rails is a huge part of this game and when even grinding is disappointing...I don't know if I should be excited for this game, or scared.

I guess I get the whole sonic is too fast argument, but honestly I don't think sonic really needs to slow down this much. It wouldn't be so bad if there was a momentum system that made you faster when going downhill like some of its fan games. Sonic o6 suffered from being to slow too, whether that was from the level design, the the snail paste characters, or the mixture of the two will have you question a few things about this current game. Sonic team has trensended past mortals pittiful attempts to comprehend there basic thought process.
From the looks of this footage now it seems as if Kronos was still Kronos Rhea and Ouranous island joined toghether. Man I wish th3 final game kept it like that
I'm sure a lot of the visual and animation things will be fixed by final release, and mayhaps even the momentum thing with the rails, because it seems like he has some momentum when wall running
The real problem is this, this game has been in development for five years and should have been released last year but was delayed because of "quality problems" by Sega, if that is the state of the game today, completely unfinished, what was the state of the game last year? They only have 6 months to improve the game, make the animations of Sonic's attacks (I'm seeing an attack per frame, this is not an animation, it's basically a photograph), put momentum in the game because it has none, put much more details in the game. And you know what I am missing? Sonic's World, where is it? They already had five years and the game still look like this? what will they do in 6 months?
3:30 Oooo, it'd be kinda cool if rings were actually a currency in this one separate to your health. Getting punished in health AND currency when you fail that parry, like the scrub you are.
Chaomix I gotta say that I'm really impressed by how nuanced your take on this game is! I do agree with pretty much everything you've said. The fundamental problems of this game unfortunately won't be fixed in just 6 months (lack of momentum, terrible level design, egregious pop-in, etc.). That being said as much as I want them to delay the game they probably won't do it considering SEGA's track record with this stuff. We just gotta hope for the best at this time.
One thing that has REALLY botherd me with all the gameplay they've shown off is Sonics speed.. Now it's not what you think. I think he runs a bit too slow to be throwing his arms back like he is. Usually, from what i've personally perceived, he does this to become more aerodynamic. Leading by his nose and basically running like an arrow.. But his normal running speed feels a bit too slow for it + with this huge world i where you most likely have to run from point A to point B quite a lot.. I think he would benefit from a slight speed increase.. Otherwise all running gameplay would be just boost, boost, boost, boost etc.. But changing his running animation to swing his arms won't work either as he runs too fast for that to work.. So he's really in this akward middle ground of running speed in my eyes.. And the fact that we don't have ANY SORT OF MOMENTUM TYPE GAMEPLAY IS ABSURD!!.. Just look at Sonic Utopia & Project Hero.. It looks so increadibly fun to actually just move around and run.. And i think that is the main thing this game lacks.
The issue isn't the speed, but it's the momentum. If Sonic only ran with his arms back when he goes down hill or runs on flat terrain, that would make it look more convincing. I also don't like that Sonic can just run along cliff faces like it's nothing, since it kind of defeats the purpose of open world. The best open world games require you to use your brain or come back to an area later. Frontier looks like you can just do everything on all terrains from the start. I think Sonic will be able to run faster when you get unlocks from the skill tree.
Hey this is not about this sonic video but does shadow remeber the events of sonic adventure 2 because it would explaine a lot of shadow personality change and give reasons
I personally like that Sonic’s slowed down, maybe I’d make his base speed just a bit faster but otherwise, I’m happy with it. Anyways, I *really* hope they change the trick animations. (And delay the game)
I really REALLY want them to delay frontiers. But, sega won't, they can't, frontiers is WAYY too ambitious, and if they delayed it investors would be pissed at sega.
Hopefully you can unlock different cosmetics for the boost because I hate every version of the boost besides the one they use in unleashed end generations as they are the same affect the one in forces isn’t that bad though and hopefully you can lock the jump dash instead of the double jump or you can use both on one controller layout
The absolute lack of vision and talent keeps on going. They badly aped Super Mario Galaxy, not once but twice with Sonic Colors and Sonic Lost World, and now they're badly aping Breath of the Wild. What's next, badly aping Kirby? They can't badly ape Super Mario Odyssey because Yūji Naka already did that with Balan Wonderworld.
I've said it before, but: Things I didn't like about the trailer: The amount of grind rails in the game is just so distracting and they look like eye soars from far away. I also don't like how they're automated, despite the game focusing on multiple routes to places, making the rails seem completely redundant. Why do there need to be so many of them too? The fact that Sonic has a skill tree and seems to use moves that his friends could use instead, makes the game seem pro-friend erasure. Sonic can somehow create energy waves by kicking and punching, despite that seeming more like a move Knuckles would use. If I were in charge of the skill tree, I'd give Sonic his moves from Battle and Fighters, since they seem more thought out. The lack of energetic tracks being treated like a GOOD thing. I get ambiance can be important, but when the whole soundtrack sounds like it, it just makes it forgettable. The best Sonic soundtracks are energetic anyway, so why settle for something worse? The world seems barren. I'm not the kind of person to hate open world games for being empty, but this game seems a bit TOO empty, for a world full of tiny animals. I find a problem with the lighting too, as it's a bit too... realistic? The game looks like it's set in England basically. Not sure if it's meant to be a reboot, an origin story or if it takes place in a different world entirely, since it doesn't really fit within Sonic's World. It also seems like the only part of "open world/zone" SEGA has taken seriously is how big it is and how they tend to have puzzles. Nothing Sonic-like was kept in the procedure and is instead replaced with vastness. Lack of physics based controls. If you're doing an open world Sonic game, you BETTER make it satisfying to run up and down hills, or the game will end up feeling like Sonic can just ignore gravity. Basing Sonic off of boost Sonic doesn't help either, since the game seems like it would have been better suited for Adventure controls or even Lost World controls. Too much automation. What happened to the good ol' days when you could DECIDE where Sonic goes when he homing attacks? It just makes the game seem like it's babying you too much.

2022 really is the year of Sonic
i mean he appeared in two non sonic movies
i think its safe to say such thing
The game does not look amazing in the slightest. The movie was amazing, and maybe the frontier animation will be good too. But so far, what was shown was pathetic.
@@ufazig fair enough XD
It's not really about the looks (while it is as important as gameplay) the gameplay is neat and OH MY GOD THE BOST IS BACK BABY
WHOWOWOWOWOEOW
Opinions are opinions
@@Fatih_M177 You cannot be serious. How is this unpolished crappy gameplay look good? Lack of proper physics and complete absence of momentum in an open world game no less. No consistency in the world design, not to mention how boring and empty it seems to be.
Combat was the only thing that looked somewhat interesting, but it could be button mashy and get repetitive really fast, especially with the boring enemy design.
And what do you mean the boost is back? It was never gone, wtf. You people need to stop praising anything that exists, seriously.
@@ufazig This reply completely misses the point that i said and that makes me laugh XDDDDDDDD I'll give this it is boring looking and empty, maybe they should lower down the realism just a bit
@@Fatih_M177 You said the "gameplay is neat". It isn't, and I explained why. If you still think I'm talking about visuals, then I don't know how to explain it any better than I already did.
I'm glad IGN confirmed that this gameplay was an early build.
Haven't heard anyone mention it yet but it looks like the green homing attack target is removed. Also the wall running looks like it just happens on walls that are coated with the same blue/purple stuff that Sonic runs/climbs up the tower on.
Let’s hope these details are placeholders because the ign player said it was an early build
I swear I absolutely love the Adventure-style art on the thumbnails. It's my favorite art style of him by far.
8:57 oh shit its freiza
Scared of a game?
@@sonicthehedgehog1606 Yeah. I'm scared that this will be another failure from Sonic Team and that it won't at all live up to the hype I once had when the game was first revealed.
@@alexanderadams9058 And especially after the Ian Flynn hype too.
Almost everyone got excited thinking he'd fix everything, and promptly forgot he's just the writer.
We've still got Sonic Team to worry about. 🥲
I do hope the fishing hook purple coins are used to get Big The Cat
I mean think of it just like Sonic Adventures they already confirmed Knuckles, Sonic, Tails and, Amy
(and some voice of a cyber lady just like Tikal is helping you)
I guess I get the whole sonic is too fast argument, but honestly I don't think sonic really needs to slow down this much. It wouldn't be so bad if there was a momentum system that made you faster when going downhill like some of its fan games. Sonic o6 suffered from being to slow too, whether that was from the level design, the the snail paste characters, or the mixture of the two will have you question a few things about this current game.
Sonic team has trensended past mortals pittiful attempts to comprehend there basic thought process.
dude chaomix this is a really good analysis youre giving gamexplain level of attention to detail and quality. keep it up.
From the looks of this footage now it seems as if Kronos was still Kronos Rhea and Ouranous island joined toghether. Man I wish th3 final game kept it like that
At least we got confirmation that this whole two trailers was a early build
One thing that you NEED to keep in mind is this is an EARLY BUILD. The pop in, animations and long draw distance should be addressed by release.
I heard that pop-in is Hedgehog Engine problem, so I doubt that will get fixed in time
3:35
Are there not rings _right_ next to the mysterious pink orb thing?
Shadow Of The Collosus: Featuring Sonic from the hit series Sega All Stars Racing
Sonic needs a move where he can temporarily slow down his perception of time to make precise dodging at high speed easy when in small spaces.
I'm sure a lot of the visual and animation things will be fixed by final release, and mayhaps even the momentum thing with the rails, because it seems like he has some momentum when wall running
Those coins look like it has a chao head on them to me.
There's no way this game will be adequate in 6 months
Sometimes I look at your logo and I look at the raised part on the o that's meant to look like a chaos head and sometimes I read "Chadmix"
Love the video and keep up the great work
Waiting for the day he starts off a video by pronouncing “Chaomix” as “Kay-ah-mix” 💀
Oh shit it's Hyper
3:30 Oooo, it'd be kinda cool if rings were actually a currency in this one separate to your health. Getting punished in health AND currency when you fail that parry, like the scrub you are.
That would be interesting.
Uploaded on My Birthday
i think that the rail thing is something that the developers forgot to delete, kind of like those weird floating objects in white jungle sa2
those ufo things look like freiza's spaceship
if they give us Big all their sins will be forgiven
GIVE US THE BIG CUT YOU COWARDS
Agreed, we need our fishing god to return
Chaomix I gotta say that I'm really impressed by how nuanced your take on this game is! I do agree with pretty much everything you've said. The fundamental problems of this game unfortunately won't be fixed in just 6 months (lack of momentum, terrible level design, egregious pop-in, etc.). That being said as much as I want them to delay the game they probably won't do it considering SEGA's track record with this stuff. We just gotta hope for the best at this time.
It's an early build so there's more hope because they're a newer build
I mean, of course, until the actual game comes out, its ALL an early build. I thought that was obvious lol
@@chaomix ok but people are acting like it's going to be same when i comes out
@@sonicthehedgehog1606 it will be lol
@@sonicthehedgehog1606 Well it still might be. Since we have no idea how old the build actually is
@@sonicthehedgehog1606 It definitely will be lmao
Also wow this is the first of your videos that I absolutely agree with. Good job!
I think Sonic will be able to run faster when you get unlocks from the skill tree.
with the rale grind sonic in suming backwards falling oof the rail the land back on not switing from
them
You couldnt have said it better!
Considering that in the combat trailer rings fall out when you get hit multiple times i think they are still using the ring system
That fish hook theory sounds like a bit of a stretch.
It’s a good thing the game was an early build
Well it has been confirmed that what we’ve seen is an early build, so they probably have something better to show.
This looks great for first impressions
10:51 SONICS TOO FAST HES OUT RUNNING THE GRAPHICS RENDERER
That bird isn't flapping as well. A bird would flap to go faster and that one is just stiff
Hey this is not about this sonic video but does shadow remeber the events of sonic adventure 2 because it would explaine a lot of shadow personality change and give reasons
The UE tech demo is spot on... UGH x_x I feel like they're trying to do too much...

Can you do a video about the new recent gameplay shots we got? I would like to hear your thoughts!
Awesome video as always btw
Honestly the chonkiness reminds me of what people were saying about Pokémon Legends Arceus when it first got announced. Look at how that turned out…
15:54 that looks like a missing texture
Still waiting for a Chao garden gameplay. I doubt it but who knows!
WAITING ANIMATIONS
I hope we can give fruit to the rock dudes and help them grow.
I personally like that Sonic’s slowed down, maybe I’d make his base speed just a bit faster but otherwise, I’m happy with it. Anyways, I *really* hope they change the trick animations. (And delay the game)
I bet it will be fun but I'm holding back ony expectations.
Y’all gotta remember this is still early development
For a December release you'd think they would show more promising footage
No it isn't. It was originally set to come out last year and was delayed to 2022 for "polish". This is the END of development.
Omg I can’t wait for this
I really REALLY want them to delay frontiers. But, sega won't, they can't, frontiers is WAYY too ambitious, and if they delayed it investors would be pissed at sega.
CAUTIOUSLY OPTOMISTIC!
I think rings functions as shield and the hearts are your health you take damage if you have no rings imagine the rings like glug jugs from fortnite
So do we put Chao in our cereal?
I don't understand Chaomix. He wanted an open world game, he wanted sonic to "take it slow". And now he is not happy? what? This comment is a joke.
To be honest it feels like a sandbox game than an actual game with a fleshed out story
What do u think now
all of the pop in is because the game uses hedgehog engine 2 by the way
HIIIIIIIIIII CHAOMIX
I've said it before, but: Things I didn't like about the trailer:
The amount of grind rails in the game is just so distracting and they look like eye soars from far away.
Sonic frontiers takes place in a different dimension I don’t know if you’ve been keeping up with news lately but ign just revealed the gameplay looop for frontiers as well by the way
very hyped
I'm biting my nails my friend

If there's no chao garden... I mean... What a wasted opportunity.
Yo, did'ja hear our boi Knux is gonna be in this game?
He’s not confirmed to be in the game yet, just the prologue animation.
@@LittleLexi24 Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but if he's in a cutscene, it kinda counts....
Right?
@@jamiegioca9448
No, the prologue animation will be a UA-cam video, not an in game cutscene. I’m sure that Knuckles being in the prologue means he’ll at least be at the end of the games story, but we don’t know anything about him yet,
7:36 I never expected it to come back tbh. They abandoned momentum based physics ever since the Adventure era
You mean ever since Boost. Chaomix already said that Adventure 2 was momentum based...
