    another easy product to use is PEX tubing, its used for water/plumbing applications, they have white, red and blue. it is frosted and you cant see the individual led's. most home improvement stores sell it in 4' 8' 12' and 25ft rolls. i got a roll trying to save a few bucks, but had to use a heat gun to straighten it (it was a pain) i recommend buying the pre curb straight pieces. i got the cheapest led light strip i could find, since i originally did this for xmas lights under the overhang on my house, but you can still see them 100ft away at the street due to the glow.

    The wax paper is cheap enough to not worry about cutting it to tube width, can just unroll the length you need and roll it up which will keep it nice and tight in the tube as it naturally tries to unroll

  • @atchjs
    @atchjs 3 роки тому +12

    I did mine a little different. I put the wax paper inside the tube. I also used pieces of 1/2" PVC pipe, wrapped/stuck the LED strips on those and pushed them inside the waxed paper and tube. My individual LEDs show through a lot more than in this video, but another wrap or two of wax paper on the outside would take care of that. I actually like the effect that mine have, so I'm going to leave them as is.

    • @scottluther2091
      @scottluther2091 3 роки тому

      Exactly! To diffuse it more, you will either need to get the LEDs further away from the wax paper, or you would need a better diffusing source other than the paper!

  • @robertharker
    @robertharker 3 роки тому +15

    Great video. Wax paper is a poor choice for diffuser. If something goes wrong, wax paper
    burns like a candle. A better choice is baking parchment paper. It is meant
    to go into an oven and not burn.

      Yes, the wax paper is all around the outside (messier and less professional but I couldn’t think of a way to adhere the led strip inside with the paper also).

    This is pretty cool! I’m gathering all the supplies and I have most but Couple things you have the bulb guard with that black end cap and you were able to put it right into the pvc elbow fitting very easily and looked snug. I got the 1 1/4 inch pvc elbow fitting, did I get the wrong size bulb guard? Because I would need to remove the end cap and squeeze the plastic to get it into the pvc. Also you doubled up the 3/4 inch plywood what were the dimensions and how did you double it? 1 inch wood screw form the bottom? I hope you see this and can get back to me thanks!!!

    • @TaborJPhotoFilm
      @TaborJPhotoFilm  2 роки тому

      Sorry to hear that your bulb guard isn’t fitting… I’m not near mine where I can recheck. I thought they were 1 1/4” but some bulb guards may vary in size, unfortunately. You may have to go try a larger pvc elbow to accommodate the bulb guard and then wrap tape around the bottom of guard until it fits snug in the elbow.
      As far as the base, 1” screws should be fine. I’d also recommend wood glue if you have some but it’s not that big of a deal if you don’t.
      Size wise, you can make whatever works for you… i think mine were 1’x 1’

      Definitely doable. I'm getting ready to mock up a couple like this so they can be controlled via DMX with the rest of the stage lighting at my church. You can find similar LED strips that do not have controllers/plugs already connected, and then you connect them to a DMX decoder via 4 or 5 channel wire (Black, Red, Green, Blue, [White]). I'm also going to try using the frost spray instead of wax/parchment paper, like others have suggested. You should be able to find lots of videos on the Tube for how to connect LED tape to DMX controllers. Best of luck!

    is there a way to control to color/dimming of the lights all at once instead of juggling 4 remotes? like an app or something?

    • @TaborJPhotoFilm
      @TaborJPhotoFilm  Рік тому +1

      The LED light kits that I found all work off of the same remote and if the receiver is visible or not blocked/too far away, I found that you can change all 4 at the same time. I know some LED kits come with an app feature but I don’t think these do. But again they all work using only 1 remote.

    • @TaborJPhotoFilm
      @TaborJPhotoFilm  3 роки тому +1

      I just made sure that when I got the strip through I held the one end tight with a piece of tape while pulling the string back through removing the 3M backer. By doing that they stay pretty straight.
