that was insane! totally in shock at how much punch those lights pack with so minimal of a setup!!! Just might be the ground package of the decade! And the song was killer too! I'm a fan of the contrasted dry vocal production technique, and this totally nailed it perfectly!

I've been trying to 3D model some plastic endcaps for the regular aluminum extrusions so that they can be snapped together in different shapes and mounted on stage, and hung or mounted from a pole or mount somewhere.
So glad you enjoyed the motion tracking! I was hoping someone would appreciate that aha
The tubes still need a bit of refining but I’ll definitely make the designs for them available when I iron out the kinks

Hey Jeff, I've been intrigued by your lighting rig since the first video. Great demonstration video and killer tune too. Happy to see version 2 pixel mapped. I would've liked the focus of the demo more on the fixtures though as I couldn't visually tell if your new diffusion method (sanding) appeared smoother than the old method (parchment paper) due to everything around you being softened. I was wondering if PoE could be used instead of aviation cable. Thanks for doing what you do, us tinkerers appreciate it!
Thanks so much for the kind words! I think I showed the sanded tubes a little bit clearer on the V2 Rig Rundown video that I posted back in February. The sanding method certainly does not diffuse the light as well as the parchment paper did, but with these new COB style leds, that are almost seamless without any diffusion, sanding does the trick just fine!
The issue with PoE is the cable gauge, if I am correct, the gauge is usually pretty light and because the cables need to transfer enough current to operate the actual LEDs, the gauge needs to be thick enough (22awg in this case) to avoid too much voltage drop

hey hey hey ... look i got to be honest... i am old and dont understand alot about all this.. i have gone back and watched all you vids.. and all i can say is WOW.. the pasion you put into your work and the way you talk about what you have done is ... well is refreashing to say the least. I have a very small show on twitch, however i have been doing it for years (6 to be exact).. i am not big by no means, however i pride myself on getting and improving my show all the time. i was looking for somthing that is unique and that you cant just go and buuy of amazon... your passion will sell this. Great job, Please let me know when you sell the kits. All i am looking for is something that pluugs into the computer and reacts to the music. again i am old and not really wanting to learn stage lighting 101 ..lol i will continue to follow this channel and watch you become the next great thing... because there is no doubt it will happen. I have started selling this rig as a kit but at this time it isnt quite plug and play and the programming software I use is quite involved. you can use this rig to just react to music but it still requires quite a bit of extra work to get up and running. Love it! You're still using the LED DigQuad series controllers with WLED? gives me hope for my system that likes to fight me when I try to do things like this haha

Thanks so much! I’m no longer using DMXIS as these are addressable leds but we have a custom software built around the touch designer framework that seems to work pretty well! This was my first time programming with it
Just popping in to say. The petal system is the best modular lighting system for smaller bands.
Hopefully we start to see more stages with these rigs on them!
Hey Jeff. Nice work on the song, video and especially your lighting rig! Are you still using Ableton for your lighting cues and how much did you have to delve into TouchDesigner (looks complicated)?
Thanks so much! I programmed this demo by creating a custom media file and uploading it directly into touch designer (I just released a video about it on the petal lighting channel) but I haven’t yet hooked Ableton up to it but the plan is to have Ableton trigger the scenes inside of touch designer

Looks great! I've been using a piezo to trigger a lighting ring that I built into my bass drum head. I think I might try building a copy of this, but using piezos and mics+FFTs to semi-automate the animations and an adafruit 8x8 switcher to change animation modes. LMK if you're interesting in a collab. Either way, I appreciate the inspiration!

Subscribed and ready to buy anything associated with this when you're ready to start selling. I know you said that your friends are working on an DMX program. Is there another program currently available suited for small bands to program and sync DMX shows to backing tracks?
Thanks so much for the comment and so sorry for the delay in responding! I must have missed this. We have begun selling the rig kits without fixtures, but we are planning on selling fixture kits soon as well. As for the software, you can pretty much use any pixel mapping software out there, but most are subscription based as far as im aware, whereas the touchdesigner one my friends have been working on is free and open source, due to it being based around the touch designer framework
I understand the nature of this is to be somewhat DIY, but what is the most turn-key, ready to go system I can buy with as little DIY/sourcing as I can get and how much would that be? Maybe I'm dumb and missed it on the site! This would change the game for our youth camps at my church and highly interested.
We are hoping one day to really be able to sell full plug and play kits but the cost savings really come from being able to sell them as a kit. But we are working on commissioning some fully built rigs in the near future but the timeline is pretty tough to predict atm. Thanks! I am using touch designer to control the lights. We have a custom file set up for pixel leds, free to download on the Petallighting.com website!

Yes! I actually posted a video on the Petal Lighting channel about exactly how I programmed this light show to the backing tracks!
How many dmx addresses do this setup needs?
This set up uses 462 channels but I'm programming it via artnet through touch designer
do you sell that rig? and if so, how much CAD$?
We are selling this as a kit (Currently without fixtures though, but fixtures will be coming soon) for 1100 USD or about 1500 CAD. The fixtures will likely be about an additional 500 CAD give or take
