- Alfa Romeo's first EV has had a difficult birth. Just hours before the launch, a name change was forced upon it as 'Milano' was off the table. As the car isn't being made in Milan, that name is in fact illegal. So, with what we're assuming was a slightly frantic board meeting, the first EV was renamed 'Junior.'
In a weird turn of events, this difficult start has translated into a lot of press coverage which can only really be a good thing. So, let us walk you around this crossover SUV that has Alfa Romeo's future well and truly in its hands.

they really have done their best to make us hate everything about it
People that are hating on this car are showing huge amounts of hypocrisy. Alfa just can't win. When they released the Giulia, which was beautiful and innovative and best in class, no one went out and bought it. The same thing happened with the Stelvio. People would say all the right things but no one bought it.
Now that they are releasing a model which is part of the quickest growing segment to ensure their future, everyone is hating on that. I'm not sure what people expect from Alfa these days but it sure seems as though they will never be happy, no matter what Alfa does.
Well said. It’s the same as people talking about manual cars. They talked about sports cars should come with manual box and yet look at the proportions of 911, M2 … 90% ended up being AT 🤷♂️🤷🤷♀️🐵🙊🙉🙈🙄
Alfas have not all been RWD in history. A lot of them were FWD from the 70s to the 2000s

I wish for Alfa to do well, but an electric crossover SUV (or whatever this is) isn't going to do them any favors.
Small Crossovers are selling well.

Cars just keep getting more boring with every release. It's a shame alfa had to do this, it really is.
The fact these cars are popular makes me hate the world.
the saving grace for Junior (if any) will be that it achieves a traditional Alfa superlative - the best driving / handling experience of all in class - though I'm not sure that matters to the market for electric / hybrid crossovers.
the worst thing to ever be said in Italy was "you cant name it after an Italian city if its not built there" -Italian government to Alfa Romeo
needless to say the Chevy Bel Air, Monte Carlo, and Ferrari Roma are all illegal now according to italy
Ferrari Roma is assembled in Italy, it doesn't say that it hast to be in that specific city.

Wonder if it’ll come with piped in Busso V6 noise. Probably will be offered as part of a $5000 “performance sound” pack. The 2025 Nissan Kicks has basically the same looks, but with a gas engine and for probably 20k less.

Its insane how bad automotive design has become in the last 10 years or so
I like it. It turned out much better than could be expected after having seen the earliest pictures. Lower it at least 3 cm for the full 'normal hatchback' experience, and use 16" wheels with some meat around them (rubber) for a compliant ride.
well... if you want to have your own F1 team you first need to make some Redbull.
I hope this car will serve as a step towards releasing more "real" Alfas, and nothing else

Looks great as Fiat, but as Alfa it lacks that Alfa design that gets people emotionally attached to it. Even Mito is a great looking Alfa.

Contrairement à ce qu'un certain nombre de personne disent, cette nouvelle Alfa est magnifique. Elle sort de l'ordinaire du design attendu d'une Alfa et c'est ce qui la rend intéressante. En même temps, je ne crois pas qu'elle trahi l'histoire d'Alfa Romeo même si elle partage la base technique des Peugeot et autres Jeep car les ingénieurs d'Alfa ont personnalisés la plate-forme commune ainsi que le moteur pure tech et c'est cela qui compte.

I'm not an EV hater so that's not my main problem (though petrol with a manual gearbox will always be more fun imo), but this look is really not my cup of tea. It looks like a Peugeot.

@@wololo10 I dislike all EV's. Tesla did have appalling panel gaps in the early days, but the latest cars are much improved. Tesla was founded in 2003, Alpha in 1910 and they still can't get it right.

Alfa is likely to have a change of heart in regards to offering more ICE versions. The market has already spoken on EVs.

It's a B-segment car.
Same range as the others on the same platform (Peugeot 2008, Fiat 600e, Opel Okka) and totally reasonable with a 50 kWh battery.

Difficult to like. Styling is too complicated and fussy at the front (better at the back) and FWD, even as an EV.

If you need a functional car why bothering Alfa? Buy Peugeot 2008 insted. This Junior is a shame for an historical brand like Alfa

The italian government is fighting against the so called "italian sounding" (non italian made products using italian naming to artificially suggest premiumness, noble origin, and higher price ) which is an abusive practice that costs billions to Italian companies each year. To keep the battle against false origin coherent, It make sense to stop Alfa Romeo/Stellantis, since "Milano" suggests milanese origin. The car might have the spirit and the feel of Alfa Romeo (I hope), it is not an 100% italian car.
EVs will be the downfall of the automotive industry, not the savior.
I love Alfas, but that’s them bust if this is their idea for the future. 😖 😂😂
