Glad I can help. Thanks for watching.
When you're in the page "For Administrator", the path to save your picture and short video clips can be found under "User Setting". The motion detection setting is located under "Alarm Service Settings".
Hi jeniamcute. Correct, you need to use the network cable to connect to the configuration web page and set up the wireless info. Afterward, you can do everything wirelessly but keep the network cable in a drawer, just in case of wireless change or updating firmware.
Hope this helps.
@Kanka29 Hi! Yes you can but those recording software doesn't come with the Foscam. You would need to purchase them separately. I just did a quick search on the web and saw a few freeware and trial versions. My keyword was "Network Video Recroder Software Free". Thanks for watching!
@mimstyle Sadly, no zoom. The IP Camera's with zoom cost a lot more. As a workaround, I purchased another iPad app called "LiveCams Pro" to maintain/monitor my three Foscams. With this app, I can pinch to zoom in or out. It's like the a "digital zoom". Hope this helps. And thanks for watching.
sure I respect that. I've buy this camera, and I'm waiting to arrive, looks really cool
Excellent review, it answered a whole bunch of questions I had- since I don't want to assume anything- I imagine it can run just on the router for remote access? also have you seen any software that will record remotely? (vacation home).
Thanks for the time and effort, quite a valuable review!
i like the motion and sound detection
Hi. You will need to set up every camera individually for it to work with your wireless network.
Hi. What software or app are you using to view? If you are viewing on a web browser, there is an invert vertical and invert horizontal icon. These icons also exist in the following apps, Cam Viewer, Foscam Pro, Live Cams Pro.
Hope this helps.
Mentioned in the video that you didn't know what it was, just so happens to be the Linux setup module. Fantastic video my friend!
@NELIZAMBIA Hi NELIZAMBIA! The wireless range, 802.11g, really depends on the quality of the router. Roughly 35m indoors. My router is on the 1st floor and 2 of my Foscam's are on the second floor. I have no problem connecting to them. Cables, category 5, have a maximum length of 100 meters. Hope that helps! Feel free to ask any questions.
@octoman511 Hi. Yes, it's MAC compatible. You only need the computer to set up the wireless connection. Afterward, everything is configured using a web browser. You can use a web browser to view the Foscam or use a dedicated app. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
A lot of viewers recently have been telling me they are having wireless issues. I can try but if you have ever added wireless to a laptop or cell phone, then I don't have a reason to doubt you don't know how to do it here.
Have you added any other device at home to the wireless network?
make sure the foscam is powered on. there is a pinhole size button on the bottom of the foscam. you will need a paperclip to press and hold it down for 30 seconds. you will see the foscam begin to pan and tile by itself. this means the reset was successfully. and it also means your user id and password has been reset to the default.
hope that helps.
Thanks for the quick responce, I did come up with another question. I have seen several videos about the Foscam today and all of them say you can use DynDNS to control the camera, I have just noticed that DynDNS is not free anymore, My question is Can you use it with any other free DNS services like No-IP or OpenDNS?
Thanks for the review. I'm in that market for this inhome camera. Now, can this be configured to view real time ie. While I'm at work or through my phone using an app? Thanks
Hi. After you configure it to work on your wireless network, you do not need to plug in the ethernet cable. You can move it anywhere in range of the wireless network and plug in the ac adapter. You can record video but I don't think it will save directly to a DVR. You'll prob need to run a software like Vitamin D. I posted a video on this too.
Hope this helps.
I take it that you're using Internet Explorer? Its been a while since I tested this feature but I think that path was configured in the User setup tab. Basically, it only recorded when I'm logged into my Foscam using IE. I think ActiveX in IE has a hold on those files.
Close IE, then try to delete the video files. Let me know if that works for you.
Hi. When they log in to the visitor account, they should be able to at leave view the webcam. What I don't like about the Foscam Web UI is that there's no distinction between visitor page and admin page. Foscam will ask you for the admin password if you start clicking around. For example, a visitor account can only view but the moment you click to directional dial, Foscam will prompt you for an ID again. It's because you need elevated privileges.
Are you able to at view with your visitor ID?
What part are you having trouble with? If you run the IP Cam viewer software, does anything show up on the list?
Are you saying you can load the Foscam page but can't log in?
Holy crap, they charged you $40! Some viewers told me AT&T charges them but I didn't think Xfinity did it too.
The part that's not resonating well with me is the part where you need to check a box to obtain the IP from the server. The problem with this is when the IP's lease runs up, the server will assign the Foscam a new IP. Thus, it would invalidate your port forwarding & your port forwarding rule would need to be updated to reflect this new IP #.
Anyway, glad to hear it works for you now.
Hi blognewb. This model I spoke about is an indoor model. Foscam has outdoor models. I wouldn't recommend using indoor models outside because of the moisture and other weather elements. But, if you must, you can buy an outdoor enclosure dome for it. I put a link to it in the description of this video. Hope this helps.
My interface screen looks different. I don't have the for visitor or for operator options. Also how do you set it to record on motion detection or setup the email alerts?
Very cool! I want one of these! One question I read some where that you can remote into the camera and if you have several of these you can acsess them all from one interface, have you been abl to test this?
do you have to charge the camera or keep it plugged into the wall the whole time?
Excellent video , Beautiful picture quality from recording camera , Very helpful Thank You !!!!
@wa4aos Thank you for the compliment!
You helped me a lot to set up my camera, which works like a charm as long as I'm viewing from my network, but I'm running into a problem getting it to work on my phone on 3g. I have setup a dyndns account, configured my ports on my router, and still I'm unable to see the picture. Any suggestions?
Thanks! Check out my other Foscam videos when you a chance. I think you'll find them useful as well.
It's possible that your ISP blocked port forwarding. Many do for security reasons.
If you put your Internet IP into a web browser and click go, what loads?
You're very welcome and thanks for watching.
before u use to plug the wire to cam wait fir 5 mins then unplug and itvwas wireless now it doesnt do itm.i use noip and use my phone at work to watch the house...but it changes ip address and i have to go into router and change if someone uses my computer
You can if you purchase a recording software. No recording software came in the box with the Foscam. I've seen software that records video but I'm not so sure if there is a software that will record the audio as well. I recently purchased a software to record only video and I'll make a UA-cam video of it in a week or two.
Hi Tin Le. What web browser are you using? Have you tried using a different browser?
Great video helped me understand how to install the camera and thank you for the selection for the app. Also cool hamsters have a Chinese dwarf myself
Hi. I haven't had any overheating issues. It runs 24 hours a day.
You can get it to upload to a FTP server but I think that's for images only. There is no video out jack on the Foscam for you to plug in a DVR.
There is a another Foscam that allows you to insert a SD card and record to it. The link to that 608W model is in the description of my video. This other one saves in H.264 format instead of MPEG. I'm an old fart so I still prefer MPEG. I also don't think it's worth paying 40% more just for the H.264 format.
Okay great, I'm going to get up with xfinity ASAP to figure it out. Thanks for the help overall, and I'll come back and let you know what I figure out.
I have a question is this ISP Camera has like a recording directly saves to your PC? Coz i have a Logitech cam and its wireless it saves automatic to my pc...If this one has the same features like in logitech ill buy one of this..
When trying to connect wirelessly, did your camera detect your wifi signal when you scanned for it or did you have to manually input the info? When I try to scan it doesn't detect the wifi signal even though it's sitting right next to my router. When I enter the info manually and restart the program, it tells me "Subnet doesn't match, dbclick to change." Any suggestions? Thanks for the great videos!!!
How does it work as a baby monitor? Just curious on the audio quality?
@NELIZAMBIA Hi! The Foscam I got doesn't accept batteries. It only runs off AC power. I can see it from anywhere that has internet access. I live in USA and family half way around the world, Taiwan, have no problem viewing it. Hope this helps!
please can u give the address for the windows install cd download. thanks
Does there have to be a computer running the software for you to be able to view it from your mobile phone
I would suggest going to your basic network settings and turning off DHCP so that you can assign it a specific IP.
hey i watched your video on how to install it but i wanted to know whats the best app to get i have a kindle fier HD and wated to view my camers from school or on the way home and sometimes i dont want to go on the computer just to take a look and some of the apps turn out to be crap do u know any good ones?
I haven't tried d-view
Hi. Can your internet speed handle the Foscam upload? If your can handle more than 2 MB upload, then I think you may have a defective Foscam.
Hi. From old to new, FI8918W, FI8910W, FI8608W. You can put the SD card into the FI8608W. I have not purchased FI8608W at this time so what I know is what I have read on Foscam.US website. I don't know if you need to plug the SD card into your computer to view it but I doubt it. It would be very strange if you needed to take those additional steps.
Hi, The camera is using 802.11g. This model does not have N. Models like the FI9820W has N.
I don't think you'll notice any improvement because the Foscam isn't trying to transmit 1080P. The quality is only 640x480.
Thanks for watching.
are you using the camara in N mode or G mode???
if N mode, did you notice any improvement over G mode?
thanks
Great vedio ,when I insttal the software the IE plocked the Active X ,and I couldnot be able to continue, my OS win XP,what is yours.
will this camera work with D-view cam from D-Link i use it to record and view non-dlink cameras + my dlink cameras
Well thank you, you have helped me a lot. PS I saw a few of your son's videos, You look like a great father :) Thank you and have a great night!
Hi, sir, can this be installed outside? I saw the reviews on the Foscam Outdoor and they were bad. We could not find another videocam as good as this one in your clip. Any suggestions, pleaaase sir please
Do you need a pc/mac running at all times??
Did you connect the camera to your pc or a router?
I am constantly failing seeing the camera regardless if connected to mac or router.
Just a quick question. Does the ethernet cable have to be connected to be able to view the videos or can it connect wireless? Also, what is the power source? Do you charge it or is it powered with battery.
Hi did you saw at 10:05 when turn off the lights, an Orb coming into camera direction? Wow
The software that comes in the CD cannot be opened in my MacBook Pro. Neither can the downloaded software from the Foscom web site. Any ideas of where to find 3rd party software?
Can you tell or make a vid telling how to set it up to view outside the home
I haven't used a kindle but since it's android, there are free webcam apps on amazon app store and google play you can use.
Very Helpful. I didn't know about the app for i phone.
Mike Dadad Hunsberger Foscam has their own free app but I like Livecams Pro ($6)
I have been using it for everything including VPN connectivity and streaming videos. Is there a way for me to check? However I do have a pretty old wireless router- DI 524
With this FI8918W, the PC needs to be turned on for the recording to occur. There are other Foscam models that has a built in SD card to store the recordings so the PC can be off.
There are online companies that allow you to store your recordings there. I haven't tried any of them out.
I am anyways buying a new router to replace my old one. Will retest once the new one arrives. if it doesn't work, will probably send the foscam back. Thanks for the video and quick response-very helpful, btw, I checked out your other video - vitaminD, works like a charm
your ISP gives your home 1 IP. Your router, representing your home then gives each of the Foscam an IP. If 1 out of 3 gets random IP, then I think that 1 is using DHCP. turning off DHCP means you will personally choose what IP to give to that device. The other settings like Gateway and DNS will be the same values as the other devices on the network. If you open your computer's network information page, you'll see it has the same info except for the unique IP assigned from the router.
can you use 3 camera?
I would like to ask what batteries does it use and for how long they last.
What is the max distance U can see with it.
Do these Foscam cameras work outside? If not is there a dome that can be purchased to cover it?
dude....you rock. Thanks for posting.
@islandgeneral Thanks for watching! I got it from dbroth. But, I would recommend you buy it directly from Foscam.US because if you sign up for their mailing list, they send you coupon codes making it cheaper than Amazon.com.
It'll be a while before I can explore the other features of the Foscam. I would like to implement the motion detection when my son starts to crawl.
@marcogaribay Thanks for watching.
Urgent question? Is this camera able to make video recordings?
Do any of your videos explain how to setup up multiple foscam cams? Do you need a dyn.dns for each cam etc?
You just need 1 DDNS (either Foscam, DYN, or NoIP) per IP address (your home).
@AwkwardHamster
Thanks!
If I try to paste it does not want to post...
I will come for help after I buy it!
U are very kind!
After I click in the anonymous link and able to see a screen with device management but I don't see any image. Any help
I saw the comment below. I will try holding it down for longer. Thank you!
I had to click the scan button twice. The first scan found nothing.
First start with the Enable DHCP box checked. This will auto populate the subnet mask and everything else.
If you want to manually specify this information, look at the subnet mask on your Mac or Windows computer and copy that one.
You don't have to use the CD. If you have the internal IP of the camera, you can just put it into your browser and connect to it. You can find the IP from your router table.
@samy4880 My OS is also WinXP. Try using Firefox or Chrome browser. And at the Foscam log on screen, click Login under Push Server Mode. This way, you don't need IE or Active X. Hope this helps.
Is there any overheating problems?
I am trying to set this up in my babys room but do not have an internet cord in there. Is the camera still able to work or no?
EXCELLENT HOW TO VIDEO - Very detailed and straight forward. I bought THREE of these from Amazon all sitting in my closet for years. Paid approx same price - $250 for 3 PLUS came with extra long extended range antennas as a freebie bonus. NEVER INSTALLED THEM because seemed to complicated for me - You made it look easy and THANK YOU !!! It will be pretty cool to see what my dog does when I'm not home :)
At the bottom of the Foscam is a pinhole. Take a paperclip and press the button in there for 30 seconds to reset it to factory default settings. This includes resetting the admin password to the default.
god i wish you could come to Australia and help me set up mine.
You just skiped over the wifi section and thats what i need to know.
Thanks Graeme
Ok thanks I appreciate it.
Looks like you know a lot about the foscam; do you know how I could share my camera with family and friends? I tried creating a visitor account but when they login, they are also asked for the admin pw?
hav this camera recordig?
Hi mrhozer. I haven't tried recording the video because it requires me purchasing a separate software. But if I find a free one, I'll post a follow-up video.
You most likely use a home internet service plan. They are less expensive than business accounts. The ISP will give out dynamic IP address unless you pay for a static IP. Consider using a DDNS service such as no-ip.
I set up the foscam with port forwarding using no-ip but the problem I have come across is that over the internet the video starts streaming and streams for a few seconds and then stops. Sometime later it starts on its own and then stops again. Any ideas?
Correct. It will still connect as long as you are in range of your wireless router.
Hi, I'm about to have a baby and would like to know how easy is it to setup this camera maybe 2 of them, so i can view them on an android, computer, iphone and ipad? Thanks
Hi edwarddls73. The quick answer is yes. I had 3 Foscams in the house watching 2 babies. I've been getting a lot of how-to video requests. I got the new Foscam FI8910W and I'm going to post a video of that first. I'll try to make a video of what you're asking in the coming weeks. I'll send you a message once I post a video of what you're asking. Thanks for watching.
How do you change the password and username from admin into something more secure, if thats possbile?
There's little I can do to address Wifi issues. My other viewers who had Wifi issues sent their Foscam back for repair or exchange. I don't know when you bought yours but maybe you can exchange it?
You can try calling Xfinity and have them walk you through port forwarding.
If you put your internet IP and it loads your router's login screen, then I would have more hope.
There's no SD card slot like the FI9821W. This can record to a computer if you have the supported software. I demonstrated vitamin d for recording. The video can be found in my Foscam video playlist.
Thanks for watching.
