    Mines named Elvira, her handler died after coming home. He had no family so when the handler passed the county animals shelter picked her up. She sat scared in the pound for 3mnths, bred specific rescue couldn't rehab her so she was going to be put down. I regularly adopt the unwanted and didn't know the dog was a retired TEDD, I found out her story the day I picked her up, I asked to see the ones on the euthanasia list and my girl was one of them. The only other was very aggressive and had bitten a few people so was under court ordered euthanasia. So I couldn't take him too, but it took me 4months to get my Mal comfortable enough to sleep more than an hour at a time. She's currently stuffing her face into my armpit an snoring. :) Its wonderful to take these dogs in but do know that they won't be comfortable for a little while, an unexpected noises can get to them but it is so worth it in the end.

    Awwwww..... yeah!!!! I am looking into getting one of these great dogs too. I am a prior Navy Sailor that works for the police department as a Civil Service employee. It warms my heart to see the MWD's working on the base. I am so happy that the bill was passed for them. They are veterans too and deserve a great forever home. Unfortunatly, since this was posted the MWD in this video has passed. I think she said his heart stopped :-( so R.I.P. MWD Benny B163 and thank for your service.

    They are beautiful dogs....One day i want a good German Shepard.One day in Iraq I met a Great Dane from a British EOD Team named Nero.He is much a family dog protecting soldiers from IEDs.I never saw Nero again.I hope he is safe along with his handler and his soldiers....

  • @MrBlakeLee
    @MrBlakeLee 13 років тому +3

    This is somewhat sad but yet amazing. I love animals so much esp. dogs. Being the former owner of German Shepard I bought this time a Golden retriever. Not even once this dog under civilized training has let me down. I miss my old dog, but I was young when he passed away and in close future I intend to have German Shepard.
    Dogs are truly man best friends. I curse and I spit on those who neglect animals in general.

    I was shocked when I first heard this.......the stats are about half keep their dogs, half are rehomed, the rest are put down, from 12- 30. I don't get why they put ANY down, they say some are sick, but how sick who knows. There's sick by name ( cancer, etc) an then really sick. Some they say are too aggressive, I doubt that....someone was handling them. GReat video!!

  • @cosmoseer9535
    @cosmoseer9535 11 років тому +9

    Finally doing whats right for these dogs. The thing I don't care for is a dog having several handlers. They are not a piece of equipment they you can be signed out here and there. They should be signed to one handler only. The handler would have the right to adopt once they have finished serving together. These dogs need moral like the soldiers. Shame on the Gov. for telling our soldiers you cannot bring a dog back that was your friend and showed you love that you found and took care of.

    • @traceykays433
      @traceykays433 7 років тому

      cosmo seer I agree with you 110% about having one handler. If the government was not so self centered they mite also. They treat our people and dogs like trash when they are finish with them.

    • @watchgoose
      @watchgoose 6 років тому

      Think first. The handler's tour is up and he goes home. The dog is still useful. Gets a new handler and saves more lives. Get it?

    • @tinalarsen2458
      @tinalarsen2458 6 років тому

      Yes! I know it's been 5 years since your comment, but these are living beings with feelings. They suffer from PSTD. They need to be sent home before this. They need to be sent home after their first surgery. To their first handler, if possible. @watchgoose, you are wrong, They train many dogs. New dog, new handler. The dog is much more effective and can save many, many lives and doesn't go home with PSTD. Get it? If you don't understand how these animals don't work, don't comment.

    Hope you can help find homes for these remarkable dogs. US soldiers have depended on their dogs for a long time. The dogs and soldiers bond closely with one another today as they did even 150 years ago in the American Civil War. You can read about dogs who accompanied soldiers in the Civil War here:

Any information you can provide on learning or locating local shelters would be greatly appreciated. Very sad it takes a news video to make people aware. Thanks

    The USA , the Army, and the contractor the Army uses all took turns ass-raping the dog and handlers of the last two wars. Politicians pass bullshit laws allegedly guaranteeing a veteran military dog handler the right to adopt his dog, but when push comes to shove, civilians are taking the dogs they want- and lying to veterans, and in the rare cases where a persistent or lucky veteran locates his dog and it's new owner, the people routinely lie and simply refuse to surrender ownership of the dog to the veteran who served with that dog. These are Americans, from the heartland around Ft Bragg and Ft Benning. These are the people who put pro- veteran bumper stickers on their automobiles but in truth are not willing to lift a toeto do right by military veterans and veteran military working dogs.
