I must admit, most weathering on my aircraft models is done naturally. I build planes to hang over my pond in the garden. 3 Spitfires, a Hurricane, a Lancaster and an X-Wing.
I said it before and I will say it again; having been a long time subscriber it has been fun following along as your skills have improved. You really are a top notch modeler now and your videos are some of the best out there. Very informative and entertaining. Also I bought one of your jigs/ stands and find it very useful.
Thank you for sticking with me for so long. I feel I'm getting to the stage where I'm happy with the results I make now put will still push to learn something new with each build. Diorama's will be my next venture using this model as the centrepiece, but first a couple more models whilst I collect materials... Great video. I’m a born again modeller after a break of about 50 years. Things have changed but videos like yours help to demystify it all. I just took delivery of your aircraft modelling stand. It arrived in Malaysia in one piece and I’m looking forward to trying it out.

Very nice work, I'm glad to hear someone willing to describe 'how I did it', and not be one of a crowd. I have seen so much weathering on models that a plane looks like a tank left out in the rain for a decade. While this may have been true for a while in the Soviet Union after 1989, I have never believed that a just out of the factory fighter in front-line service, say in 1945, really has had time to weather at all. Oil leaks, yes. Photos show these in great detail, how the airflow makes them curve and spread, etc. Certainly, no RAF plane I worked on between 1976 and 1986 had a trace of weathering in the modern sense. Some dirty oily fingermarks along often-used panels, and rarely some yellow-green base coat showing before a black mastic was painted over it, but never a chip, scuff or bit of faded paintwork. And these planes were flown every day, barring moratoria on spending.
23:22. Apply inner cross mask FIRST. Then put outer mask down around it and remove inner. Much easier to get correct placement. Spraying is SO much better than decals that's for sure.
Welcome back mate! Glad to see you back on UA-cam again mate. Also, I bought your model stand and it is very handy 😉 Can recommend his model stand to anyone who reads this : )

Beautiful work. I really like the way you used a very different painting scheme. A lot of 109 models seem to have a generic paint job. Yours is unique and interesting. I appreciate all the work you’ve put into the model and the video.
I have the same kit as you. I got a Masterbox Luffwaffe pilots and ground crew. It's going to look great. I'm going to do a diorama with it. Thanks for the video. 😊

Great build. I tried this kit a couple of years ago and was very disappointed. I ended up binning it because there’s so many other kits that aren’t as problematic. Eduard is hit or miss with me.
Thank you. There were a few small issues with this but overall a decent kit. I find Eduard to be very good but I have chosen my kits wisely, their new ones seem to be flawless in my experience. Thanks for watching :)
Awesome job mate 👍 Hopefully you could maybe do one with the arctic camo, if you haven't already. I mean the white, black and light grey colour scheme.
The realism and detail are hard to believe. But it is the painting and weathering when ceases to be a model and becomes something else. A video like this takes me back to the war more than any film or documentary can, to the people who built these, worked on them, and flew them. I also have to stop myself from watching what you're actually doing to pay respects to your outstanding and, I presume, very time-consuming video work.
Thank you. I think this kit, being 1/32, allowed me to really extend the detail in the painting & weathering stage. The videos are also as hard as the model to make, so I appreciate this being noticed too. Thank you for watching :)

Hello and welcome back to the hobby. I use a 24L Master Air industrial compressor but I would suggest a Badger 1100 compressor (1.1L) if you're just getting back into it. It's silent running and has two tanks, I deal for small spaces and starting out. Hope this helps and thanks for watching :)
Lovely build mate... definitely one to be proud of! Welcome to the world of non-gloss....but know this ...even though you've shown clear evidence that it's unnecessary....you will still be told that you are "WRONG!" 🤣. That texturing effect with sponge is really interesting...the end result looks very good on camera. I'm definitely going to experiment with that. Thank you. Keep 'em coming man...top work.
Thank you, I think this is my best work so far - I'm even happy with it! Yes I have been told in the past it's not necessary but never understood how to get around it. No matter what we do there are always people who know betterer lol. The oil texturing I suppose replaces the salt weathering technique but in a much more controllable manner. I think it would work really well on an overall grey scheme too with varying colours of oil. One for the future. Thanks for watching :)
I would add some neutral colour since this is were dust would fly up from the ground on take off and landing. This would brighten the panels though so you don't need to use too much or it'll end up looking desertised which isn't correct for this aircraft. If you wanted to go darker I would use a slate blue/grey since it's close to the RLM65 but not too different, offering a nice contrast without being too drastic. Don't use black, ever. Black never appears in nature and therefore weathering. Hope this helps and thanks for watching :)
Beautiful work. To configure plane historically correct would be nice addition, though. No pilot worth a single hour of flight training would park his fighter with flaps down. And those leading edge slats, how an earth can they be open when plane sits on a ground? Dynamic air pressure drives them out while flying.
Thank you. Looks like very few Luftwaffe pilots were worth a single hour looking at these historically correct photos I uses to pose the flaps in the correct position. I don't know how on earth the slats can be open in these photos either, but they managed... pin.it/5QAysPe pin.it/6SIgdGu pin.it/5Ii7U23 pin.it/2dyPWdS pin.it/hzTvbo7 Thanks for watching :)
Hydraulic and compressed-air operated items tend to droop when the system is not pressurised, as when the plane's engine is not pressurising the systems. While there can be pressure stored in reservoirs within the plane, this was rare on 1930-1940 designs. The undercarriage doors on a P-51 Mustang, for example. Many modern and WWII photos (and latterly videos) can be found showing the main doors drooping while the plane is idle on the ground, then closing when the engine is running, then opening to receive the wheels as they are retracted after take-off, then closing again for flight.
I might have missed something, sorry if I did, but what is the product name of the adhesive film sheet that you used to create the masking set to replace the decals, please?
This almost looks ripped straight out of history. Fantastic job sir, she's absolutely stunning!

Great Work Concratulations A Fantastic Me 109 Greetings From Austria
Thank you and thanks for watching :) Hello from the UK!
I’m not sure if you add some panel liner to the area where RLM 65 is painted, but what panel liner color would you recommend for RLM 65?
I don't know how on earth the slats can be open in these photos either, but they managed... pin.it/5QAysPe

Many modern and WWII photos (and latterly videos) can be found showing the main doors drooping while the plane is idle on the ground, then closing when the engine is running, then opening to receive the wheels as they are retracted after take-off, then closing again for flight.
thanks for this , you have made me feel very inadequate, lol.
Sorry not sorry... But thank you and thanks for watching :)
I might have missed something, sorry if I did, but what is the product name of the adhesive film sheet that you used to create the masking set to replace the decals, please?
The sheet is called Oramask 810 :)
Good work!
