I had an uncle who flew the P-51 B , and later the F6D. He said the rubber often wore down on the -D, but it usually wasn't pure wood. He also said the -B floorboard was part of the upper fuel tank, so it was usually the interior color. Either way, your builds are awesome.
It's always great to see such care and dedication to create masterpieces sa these wonderful birds. Eduard makes some fine scale models and someone that's equally up for the tasks Vman . Also made recent statement.
Absolutely amazing builds! I’m just building the Tamiya 1:48 P51b which is a lovely kit but nothing like these from Edward of course. Inspirational video for my own build, thanks and keep up the good work.
Well done! I really enjoyed your honesty about how both kits went. I have now built two Eduard P-51s and yes that wheel well is a real bugger with the fit of the upper wing. Also, regarding the Eduard decals: They (Eduard) say to leave the carrier film on. I've tried with removal and without removal of the carrier film. What I found was after a coat of Aquagloss, you can't tell the difference. Then one go over with dull or satin and they blend right in. (I just saved myself 24hrs of decal time and a lot of anxiety). Eduard was right. But it sure looks purdy when you remove it - but the gloss coat negates it anyway. Thanks for the great videos, I learn so much from them.
Thank you for watching. I just can't ever seem to get the Eduard decals to settle down into the panel lines without removing the backing. But, thank you for the tips!
I like how each model you do have different issues that you tackle,I also appreciate that you see what works and what doesnt you might make an occasional error but you get past that setback and continue. This is encouraging to us modelers

Hi Brett, you really are a master of the craft, I,m a fairly new member but am working my way through your back videos, your channel has to be the best modelling channel currently on you tube! I look forward to your new videos.
I love them. Despite some hiccups, it really came out well. I recently had what I thought was a major disaster following a sanding incident with an f35 lighting II and lost some panel lines but looking at reference it was actually better that it happened. I was reinspired to go back and overcome it thanks to watching your work.
It's a pleasure to watch your channel your skill is fantastic, you are too hard on yourself with detailing these models ,just enjoy your work you share with everyone. Regards Sean 😂
If building a weekend edition kit, or kits from other manufacturers, the Eduard Löök sets are amazing value for money, £5-10 and you get a very well pre-painted resin instrument panel/s, and a set of photo-etch pre-painted seatbelts.. my go to
Superb builds Brett. Both are really nice. I've had the white paint crack and the only thing I can think is the residual build up of thinner in the cup with each new cup full if you're doing more than one area
Sweet! Hidden detail. I'm on the Hobby Boss 48th B-24J & it's a GREAT kit with tons of internal detail. I'm ready to join the fuselage together but keep stalling thinking I may want to try a show something else😅
That is such a great model. Or models. I have only ever made 1 actual p51 model kit, but it was only 1:87 scale and had about 6 parts. One day I will buy this model!
I know you're a little self critical about the 'B' but it still looks great. Fabulous video; so much to enjoy, so much of interest. Thank you...... 👌🏻👍🏻👏🏻
@HammerheadModelMaking Thank you for youre positive reply. Having been to rallies of blue and red, experiencing the energy of the people there, i remain a subscriber and enjoy youre channel as i always have
Just watched the section where you're layering on the PE instrument panel with tweezers. I'm on my 6th Eduard kit, and I've found that a small ball of cured liquid mask on the end of a toothpick makes a handy tool for placing small photoetch parts. It's just tacky enough to get it in place and doesn't scratch anything.
Another brilliant video,, thank you. I had that problem with white over metallic on a 1/32 Mustang as well. I'm trying to remember the brand of metallic paint, perhaps AK metallic. The white was tamiya in X20A. Frustrated the hell out of me too!
An interesting note about those fuselage fuel tanks, the pilots burned them first on the fly out. Left over fuel in them made the plane uncontrollable in dogfight. Great video.
Nice builds there Brett. When you build two kits like that, you in up forgetting steps on the second build due to fatigue. I have done that many of times in my life and quit doing it.
Those came just fine. Just did Eduard's D-5 variant and had some similar issues- removing the carrier film - learned don't precut the decal along panel lines. Resulted in chunks of decal coming off too.
Looks amazing Brett. With regards to the white paint issue you had on the Mustang B flaps… I had a very similar issue on my bare metal Tiger Moth. It happened to yellow acrylic paint for me, it looks like it separates as it drys and results in what looks like cracks. For me, it was caused by applying a gloss clear coat first. Clean forgot I needed to paint some yellow stripes and ended up with an identical issue to you. Could you maybe have had some rogue gloss clear coat on the flaps? Anyway, the pair still make a great addition to your collection. Cheers
Building an Eduard P51D right now. Interior didnt go as well as I liked so I’m just gonna close the canopy, think when I want to spend more time on one, I’m gonna do the Pacific paint scheme
Very Nice builds. I think the white paint cracks are from the under paint not being 100% cured. I’m guessing that cuz I’m doing a base desert diorama for my P-40 that has ground cracks and I read up on how to make crackle paint. But after research I decided to just buy crackle paint at Walmart for under $10.....great video as usual.
Once again a great build mate! can't believe just how quickly you push these vids out XP Quick question tho, what paint did you use for that brushing you did from 11:03 onwards? That stuff seems to level out reaaaally nicely!
I use Vallejo model color paints for all of my brush painting. Usually mixed with a small amount of water, like only 10-15% water. Just enough to help it flow a little better. I really like Vallejo as a brush paint.
Had the pleasure of meeting you at the RMHE and seeing your work in person. Your work is excellent! I want to build a couple of these new Eduard P51’s, so this video will be my guide. It looks like you are using Tamiya liquid cement on painted surfaces? Is that right? How does that work? I’ve never had success gluing painted surfaces together. Is the Tamiya cement different? Thanks.
Thank you! I'm glad we were able to connect face to face, always happy to stop and chat! As far as gluing onto painted surfaces, in general its frowned upon to do that, but I've found the Tamiya Extra thin I use doesn't have any problem cutting through the acrylic paint. And most of the time, I try not to glue painted surfaces that are supposed to be structural. But overall I don't have an issue using the Tamiya cement on painted surface
@ Awesome! I have some of the quick-setting extra thin Tamiya cement. Looks like you are using the standard setting version. I’ll pick some up and give it a try. Thanks!
I've had that cracking happen multiple times. My only guess is there's something between an enamel and lacquer combination where the enamel hasn't dried enough. It's a guess. A theory, so take it as such. Great build. Thank you for the entertainment =)
They're the best looking under carriages I've yet to see. And I've seen a few under carriages. Side question: could you use photo etching to produce working/semi working leaf springs in a 1/64th scale?
I’d like to see you interview someone from a hobby shop. I am interested in what trends they’ve seen over the years and how the hobby has developed. (That might be a whole show itself.) Maybe they have some funny stories about particular problems hobbyists have brought them, and maybe some interesting solutions to problem hobbyists have shown them. It would be also fun to learn something about their business. For example, how the business is different from what they expected. Perhaps ask them what good day looks like and what a bad day looks like. Since they are local to you, maybe you could get someone from MRS Hobby Shop.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'm working on getting some stuff in the works regarding interviews, and interviewing someone from MRS is top of my list. I agree that its good to get the perspective of someone whos whole living is made by the hobby!
Amazing builds Brett, I am an absolute fan of your work and your videos, ive been modeling for quite some time, and have been looking for a good micro saw blade and yours caught my attention, so I'm just wondering what brand it is you use and can I find them online as im in Australia
Thank you for the kind words, the razor saws I'm using are a Tamiya product. I can give you an amazon link, but I'm not sure what the availability is in Australia. www.amazon.com/Tamiya-Fine-Craft-Saws-0-15mm/dp/B01LZNOU6K/ref=sr_1_5?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.ocPSksAlYSVzsU_Cf2Ji_Ngdc2A727aMr8B-fjvaLDQDvEmLnbUchEjhj9UeCl0Bhv1vMKQBZQl6hQwT71Gd7hxhdx7LHejykCY2naWOK8P9RDJHL9l0EyOPPhFS-mQKrheVw_3-yO2-yAlNFPxp_IZWE1zkBtWiMwGvpCRl1igJT_oPgKfgM7jG-U8p_1QjVRe9ZAcvrKJF_qgO9bBq4n44YTuJfPhI4lAw3Dz8_FFjdPKisfCTx6ei10tDGtLuQ8kZRLIz7cNhyq9dsggBZf-YSEWByDsLZh8IpHHysEoejAzVPgFoQsnW8KS_xkUvKSUEzUgeNeso1bRI01mLghH0nTX1u0xOV3kHzEKZXixcUA76Rn2-kl37kqYKsKWbuy-85pAXdRt-yEAUQ0kvN4XlKyxjaQQqNZDdmtyVL8dnnnvvIJPnhsB9-PK_FHnE.cM8j-D39_pf0nurpKYVxJzZOiDPnG701OuqJOt3k1cc&dib_tag=se&keywords=tamiya+razor+saw&qid=1737997872&sr=8-5 Hope this helps in your search!
Two Eduard P51s. I think I know a modeller who's a very "Happy Rabbit." Hi Brett. They are both lovely but in my mind P51s should be Silver, I know a lot of them (especially R.A.F.) did wear Camo however, my head still tells me they should be silver and wearing American markings. I guess it's down to what imagery you grew up with. As for the crinkly white stripes, sorry my old Mucker, haven't got a clue. If it really offends you all I can think of is a very fine sanding stick and make them all look severely faded. Very weird! Anyway, thanks for another entertaining and interesting video, looking forward to your next, my regards...
Very inspirational! Question though. What kind of camera you're capturing with? I always wonder how guys like you contort themselves around the camera that seems to be sitting between them and the model. Do you have an additional tethered, larger, tablet screen for visual reference. I'd imagine it would be hard to keep a perfect frame composition. Even harder to make sure the focus is OK for those closeups of the tiniest of the pieces.
Thank you! I do all of my filming on my iPhone. Over my work bench I have a framework that all my lights are connected to, and I have an articulated holder for my phone, so it keeps my workbench from of any camera equipment to get in the way, it is positioned over my left shoulder. Yes, I have a small monitor that I can connect my phone to to see what I'm filming and how to best frame things. My current set up is very hands free and I accidently bump into the camera a few times each build, usually when I'm reaching for a tool off screen.
@@HammerheadModelMaking Thank you for the breakdown, I real appreciate your time. It must be the latest iPhone? The quality is pretty good in the close-ups.
@@dpeshy6719 actually its about 5 years old, iPhone SE, but it has a good camera. I record it in 1080p, takes up a lot of storage on the phone, but the quality is good.
Its hard to describe, but often times commercial packaging will come with some foam to protect what ever product it holds, I just don't throw it away, as it comes in handy. I hope my description makes sense.
I’m in two minds about coloured photoetch or 3d decals. They look awesome and really improve the detail but I’m questioning myself as to whether it’s actually modelling? What do you think Brett?
So, here are my thoughts on the matter. This hobby should be one that is enjoyed by the modeler. If someone gets pleasure out of trying to hand paint every dial and switch on an instrument panel, then all the more power to them. If someone else is going to struggle and get frustrated trying to do the same, and pre colored PE is available, and that provides them less frustration, then go for it. As long has both people are happy with the outcome, then they are both equally valid experiences. I don’t think color photo etch or 3D decals is cheating or “not modeling”. It’s just another tool in the tool belt a modeler can use.
About attaching them seat belts - you have the Royal Class kit with 3D printed seats including the seat belts. You could've used that as a reference for attaching the PE ones. Just saying.
Quick question, with the p-51D how do you get the cockpit assembly to fit to the fuselage halves. I spent and hour trying to do so and glued the two halves together only to come back to everything misaligned.
@@torpeodo-nz133 Best I can tell you is to start watching at the 28:00 minute mark, you'll see how I get the cockpit assembly into the D: ua-cam.com/video/fdFxVD717fo/v-deo.htmlsi=mtlzmIBkgZD799Gp&t=1693
Weird that the white paint cracked on the underside wing flap on both wings. I would have also had the same mindset by that time - just get it done and over with...
Is anyone aware of a P51D kit that includes the AN/APS-13 tail warning radar used in the late European war? It would include the array on the tail, the warning light cone next to the gun sight, and the switch panel in the cockpit.
I know the Mighty Eighth boxing of the P-51D comes with at least one marking that uses the tail warning array. But I didn't notice any additional parts in the cockpit.
Two incredible builds!! I love them! There is one tiny tiny tiny critique and it's really more about Eduard than you, the cut 101 decal. I am sure that was the way it looked on the real aircraft. But on the kit it looks like it was ripped during application. I know it wasn't but it does look that way. Shame on Eduard. That being said next time maybe you can paint it. It may look more realistic. Regardless these two kits are stunning and as always you continue to inspire me. Great work. Full transparency, I am a mediocre builder at best. You are way better at this than I am so take my critique with a grain of salt.
Ha ha, no worries, I had to do a few double takes of the decal to make sure I didn't ruin it! Yeah, painting the markings would have probably had better results. Thanks for watching and for the feedback!
Your audio volume is a bit low in this. It almost seems like you're whispering at times? When the ads start, the volume gets blasted as you have to turn your volume up a bit more than normal.
Can i ask who you voted for? At the moment im unsubscribing from those american channels that voted red or dont want to share it. My anger at those who voted red is astronomical and i refuse to support those channels that choose destruction. If the red voters want to destroy their country be my guest, but you take the world and the blue voters with it.
I made myself a promise when I first starting sharing my work on social media that I would not get political and not stray from my goal of promoting the hobby, and to that end, I wont be sharing who I voted for. That said, I can certainly understand your frustration and anger and I had a similar reaction at the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. But in my life personally, I am going to try to focus on being a positive force to those around me and those in my community as best I can, continue to share this amazing hobby with others and hope that in the end kindness and empathy will win out over hate and bigotry. If you feel the need to unsubscribe then I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors. -Brett
Unbridled freedom is a beauty that be that can't be caught ,definitely a describes the P51 Mustang .Man did an exquisite justice o these Eduard kits.
Appropriate description of the P-51!
I had an uncle who flew the P-51 B , and later the F6D. He said the rubber often wore down on the -D, but it usually wasn't pure wood. He also said the -B floorboard was part of the upper fuel tank, so it was usually the interior color. Either way, your builds are awesome.

Nice! The Tamiya mustangs are great kits to build!
Your subtle weathering improves the realism a lot.
Very nice work.
Thank you so much 😀
Yeah, I've tried to embrace showing my mistakes more, hopefully someone else can learn from them!
Really nice dabble build.
Those cracking usually appear after playing the gloss coat over the not fully dry paint underneath.
Also getting the same effect when you put a heavy gloss coat over the latex kind of paint ( probably vallejo which u use).

I was very happy indeed! And yeah, Mustangs do just look good all metal!

Thank you for the breakdown, I real appreciate your time. It must be the latest iPhone? The quality is pretty good in the close-ups.
@@dpeshy6719 actually its about 5 years old, iPhone SE, but it has a good camera. I record it in 1080p, takes up a lot of storage on the phone, but the quality is good.
Beautiful build, Brett. Can I ask what kind of foam you use to mask your wheel wells and cockpits? Sorry for the silly question.
Its hard to describe, but often times commercial packaging will come with some foam to protect what ever product it holds, I just don't throw it away, as it comes in handy. I hope my description makes sense.
Hi, Can you Build the Italeri F-E Tiger II ?
I can certainly look into adding one to my collection.
@ ok thx i buildet it yesterday
@ Can you also do than a Video ?
@@HammerheadModelMaking Agree - and you make a great point that this is about the modeller enjoying the process, not just the outcome
About attaching them seat belts - you have the Royal Class kit with 3D printed seats including the seat belts. You could've used that as a reference for attaching the PE ones. Just saying.
Lol, I never considered that!
Cracking on the flaps is due to the paint underneath drying at a different rate than the paint over the top.
I see, thank you for the info!
Quick question, with the p-51D how do you get the cockpit assembly to fit to the fuselage halves. I spent and hour trying to do so and glued the two halves together only to come back to everything misaligned.
I don't really recall any issues with the cockpit installation, the most trouble I had was getting the wheel wells to fit properly in the wings.
Where do you install it?
@@torpeodo-nz133 Best I can tell you is to start watching at the 28:00 minute mark, you'll see how I get the cockpit assembly into the D:

Nice builds. I have had similar cracking issues with some Alclad paints. Showed up a few weeks after painting. Frustrating
Yeah, thats super frustrating, especially after so long.
Cool 🛩
Weird that the white paint cracked on the underside wing flap on both wings. I would have also had the same mindset by that time - just get it done and over with...
Yeah, still confuses me a little bit.
Superbe !
Thank you!
👍👍
Is anyone aware of a P51D kit that includes the AN/APS-13 tail warning radar used in the late European war? It would include the array on the tail, the warning light cone next to the gun sight, and the switch panel in the cockpit.
I know the Mighty Eighth boxing of the P-51D comes with at least one marking that uses the tail warning array. But I didn't notice any additional parts in the cockpit.
@ Thank you!
@ I just downloaded he instructions and saw that the kit also includes PE for the array as well. Thank you for pointing me to the kit!
those cracks on the white paint are problably becouse you put the warnish on when the paint wasent cure
Thank you for the insight!
Thank you for the feedback, I'll see what I can do to adjust.
Great builds but way to many ads, sorry 😢
Thank you, and thank you for the feedback!
Cannot stand Eduard decals
Yeah, I still struggle with them.
