This is an incredible build. The F-104 was a great choice. It is one of my all time favorite fighters. Your weathering techniques is outstanding, and what I appreciate is how you use other colors than black to highlight the panels, so many overuse and misunderstand that. A five star build out of five stars.
If/when you make this model again I think that you should go 'That Far' on the weathering and damage. It would lake an excellent diorama piece 😀 I've only just found your channel, so I have some catching up to do. Thank you for sharing.
A good build and I like your videos. You've got the balance right between building and commentary. I must say I get bored when people talk for ages with no action, I think we need to see what is going on rather than listen to loads waffle. I agree with others on panel lining and washes. I hate it when some people cover the model with thick dark washes. It over emphasises panel lines and makes the model look too dark and like the model is dirty, and I don't mean authentic dirty.
Watching your videos is like going to modelling university. I learn more in five minutes of your videos than I do in a whole year of trial and (lots of) error modelling. Thank you!
Haha guys like you are the reason, I won't start over making models again too soon... You're just too good, so I'm really spoiled with these great results - and I'd have to invest a good amount of money for all the equipment! Nice build and greetings from Germany!
Well I guess that's a good thing in a round about way and I'll take it as a compliment. Save yourself the time and effort and enjoy our work instead. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy my other content too :)
That takes me back. Despite living in the far SW UK we saw a interesting mix of fighters, maritime and transport aircraft. On our bike rides we go past the airfield and one time 8 Belgium F-104s howled across in formation and landed in the colours of the kit.
Outstanding job on this F104. You show a lot of patience as you detail your work. I wish I had been taught these techniques when I was building model aircraft back in the 1970s. Again, Fantastic work on this kit.
F-104 was the first jet I saw flying in person as a kid - it was LOUD!! So cool, best sound ever and forever in my memory bank. Great build! May try adding some wires to my wheel bays etc - if it doesn’t work I can always leave it off.
My Kinetic Gold 1/48 F-104J has just arrived at my local hobby store and I’m heading there tomorrow to pick it up, this is the video that made me buy it. Looks like one of the best f104 kits out there currently. Kinetic gold is absolutely fantastic
Wow that's amazing! I hope you're getting on with it okay, the kit is superb and a real job to build. Kinetic gold from my experience with this one are some of the best kits right now
@@TheInnerNerd yeah man I’m on step 13 and I’m absolutely loving it! I’m taking my sweet old time with it and just finished outing together the fuselage halves. Outstanding job....beautifully done! What I really like about your builds which keeps me coming back is the detailed description of all processes and the tips you provide in the commentary. Thank you!
Very nice model ! FX-90 flew with the Belgian Air Force from february 1965 till january 1987 (but the last Starfighter to fly with the Belgian Air Force was in 1983) , it then went into storage at Koksijde and now is on (sadly outside) public display in France at the Museum Savigny-Les-Beaune.
I've watched alot of builds and I love the way you explain the small details. Alot of builds just skip over the small things and you do a great job. your weathering parts and explaination are great. Keep up the great work.
Hello, if you are wanting to see a metal colour I have a made a video here ua-cam.com/video/oeZ12iF26Ew/v-deo.html&lc=Ugy12P_L6s0GkbAxoVR4AaABAg. It's not on the Starfighter but may be of use. Thanks for watching :)
Great job! I saw a German Starfighter live at a musuem, it's actually quite big. One of my favorite planes, great lines and great performance for it's time.
For a splash of colour on natural metal Starfighters, techs used to add covers for the wings' leading edges. They were so sharp that they made covers from channel-aluminun and finished them in fluorescent red wit a Remove Before Flight tag at the outside end.
Outstanding job! Great techniques, and; some great ideas. Particularly, the home made mottling mask. I did something similar many years ago using a piece of a worn out fly swatter. Using things at hand can be much more cost effective than paying for a model specific item. Sometimes with a much more realistic result. Again, great video.
Thank you! And also thank you for the sub too - I'm not as active as I usually am right now since I'm buidling a whole new modelling studio after moving house. But over the next few months I should be back to uploading as I normally would. Glad to see you're enjoying my current content and thanks for watching :)
Will do! I'm going to make a time lapse of the build with a few detailed shorts of some of the things I make in there which I'll upload onto my public Patreon page. I know people have shown interest in the photo booth setup I have as well as some other bits and pieces to do with my modelling setup. Stay tuned and they'll be live over the coming months :)
Awesome work! You demonstrated several weathering techniques I have been wanting to try and by you showing them how to do them, I feel more confident on trying them now.
I have made a bunch of Hasegawa F-104's over the years and I decided to give the Kinetic version a try. After watching this video I look forward to starting the building process. 😁
Elegant work! A good balance of weathering and wear, without looking ready to be put paid. If you would like a real challenge, build a flight of four or so wheels-up, in an in-flight forced perspective diorama, a pilot in the driver's seat of each. One would be in 1:32nd scale, the second in 1:48th, the third in 1:72nd, and the last in 1:144th scale. (I might have seen one in 1:100th scale, and another in in 1:200th scale, but I cannot be certain.) They obviously would be of the same air force, of the same squadron, in identical paint scheme (well, natural metal), identical markings, except for the individual aircraft identification.
Awesome build - I really like the way you described the way you did and clearly described the painting of the engine and weathering techniques. That's what's really holding me back from getting better builds - so need to try them on my current builds
Thank you. I try my best to actually describe what I'm doing rather than the video do the talking, I'm pleased to see it worked :) Thanks for watching :)
Really great video mate, im currently building a 1/48th e2c 2000 hawkeye by Kinetic ( Italeri rebox) and after watching you blending with oils im thinking about giving it a go myself. I've always had bad experiences due to rushing them but the results you got out of the oils is amazing
the videos are always very pleasant. your technique is perfect at each stage of the assembly. impress your tremendous ease in painting, making the camouflages so perfectly. admirable. Congratulations

As I said in the video, all references are linked in the description along with my *Patreon Page Link* if you want to support the channel and help me deliver videos like this on a more regular basis. Great kit from Kinetic but I wasn’t feeling the kit’s offering of decal options so went ahead and bought some aftermarket ones which were great. I used the really thorough walk around as my base build and then several others to get an idea for the weathering. Up next is going to be one of my favourite aircraft - the Phantom!! So keep a lookout for that. Remember to subscribe and hit the bell icon so you get notified when I make an upload. As always please be tactful in the comments. Constructive criticism is fine but all rude, aggressive and outrightly negative comments will be removed. The Inner Nerd Scale Modelling I really love that you feel the same as I do about the black panel liner stuff. I look at the beautiful builds and then people do the black. I just gape and keep wondering why people would do that to their work. Some even use that on minis... If you do a new Starfighter, then do it in the NASA colors or replicate the one that shot itself down. :)
The F-104 out-fought everything from that time period. Computer simulations have shown that the faster jet did much better during the age of guns, since it could control the pace of the fight, leaving and re-entering battle as desired. I have like 10 F-104 books, but they all seem to have the same pictures. Art books have provided me a much-needed escape from real life. When life was difficult I'd set up my easy chair with coffee, a desk lamp and a stack of art books beside me. They kept me going during the hardest times. My art books are the best investments I ever made. My 3 favorite books are: - Wonderworks by Michael Whelan - Beyond the Horizon by John Harris - Great Fighter Jets of the Galaxy 1 by Tim Gibson
I would LOVE to see a 1970s USAF F104 Starfighter painted in the highly polished aluminum chase plane livery. That one would be a challenge! Those observation chase planes were used for dignitary and high ranking officer reviews of new planes. These F104s were kept much cleaner than usual and the bare aluminum was polished up like chrome plating.
Kinetic have now made the F-104C version so I will definitely be building that sometime in the future. That one comes with a NMF scheme which looks amazing on these things... Anyway more models to build first! Thanks for watching and stay tuned :)
