IUDs end up in the abdominal cavity due to perforation through the uterus at the time of insertion. This is very rare. If the IUD is placed correctly, there is no way it can move outside of the uterus due to its soft material. Just think of how it is impossible for plastic to go through muscle by just rubbing against it. Easiest way for IUD to migrate once in position is back out through the cervix. That’s all! Just in case someone was concerned about IUDs.
