I'm in Canada, and didn't know Stuart Maconie. I enjoyed the walk and the views and the conversation, and knew much more about him by the end. I'm really enjoying this series.
Fair play to Stuart for climbing and talking so entertainingly at the same time, and to Ed for allowing him to do so. A pleasure to enjoy your company and the wonderful scenery. More!
Brilliant Stuart Maconie. Just ordered 'The Nanny State Made Me'. If anyone disagrees, try living in the States. It's awful for anybody who doesn't own their own company and has done VERY well (in other words, you don't need employee rights and you can afford to buy anything at all at the expense of others). Also Ed, thanks for another great vid x
I've just watched both episodes back to back. These are excellent! You've hit on a winning formula, there's something quite special about them. Please do more, Ed and team, and thank you 🙏
Down to Earth blokes, walking the wonderful hills of the UK as part of their life (and hoping to be part of mine, when I can start to learn to drive and are able to do so) and talking about their lives. Thank you Ed, I really enjoy these videos! 🙏😎👊
Thank you for adding the maps in! I just gave my 4 year old daughter a little lesson on maps because she was watching the episode with me. It was wonderful to explain the map and her to see you walk through the land and her put those two things together. What a lovely and unexpected experience while enjoying the conversation 💗
This suddenly reminds me that about 16 years ago, I picked up Stuart's book, Cider with Roadies in a book swap at a hostel in Cusco, Peru. It accompanied me as my only book on a 7 day trek around Ausangate, a mountain in the Andes. I was reading it by head torchlight in my tent at night, at altitudes between 4 and 5000m. It was a welcome companion.
Really enjoyed that, been 8yrs since I walked up there, brought it all back. Really interesting chat and you can tell Stuart I've just ordered his book :)
This show simultaneously makes me miss travelling to the UK and Ireland for hill walks, and makes me reminisce about the great ones I did over there🤗🚶🏻♂️
When I was last up Carrock Fell a few years ago I found a geocaching log book which Stuart Maconie had signed. To this day remains the most significant cache I have so far found.
Great video Ed. First congratulations to Barry and the camera and sound work. To film you on the move and in that wind is a triumph. What a great format too. I have read some of Stuart’s books and this was a fascinating eavesdrop of such an amiable conversation with two entertaining blokes in their favourite habitat. Can’t wait for more.
@@iseriver3982 There is nothing wrong with watching here as I do watch content on UA-cam a lot but not all is suitable as a mainstream TV show, this would be a great fit for a channel such as BBC 4 and reach a wider audience in addition to UA-cam watchers, that was the point I was making.
First of all 'Thank You Both' (Ed and Stuart + team). The format is expading well. That was an Edventure that struck multiple chords. Ziggy connected more than 4, the fact that the both of you were in step so much of the way (as an ex military and body language student I coud see 'milit-orring') and the expansive concepts of 'Fake News' (I listened; and believed that it was Bob! Doh!), followed by the politaical exoskeleton of maturity, the inquistive honesty and holding to account; and just the overall freedom offered, was such a relief and wind-down, after a few intensive days work. And just a link to last Edventure, 'Helly Hansen Gortex socks!!! My Foot'. Brilliant show, well done all. m
Great fan of the both of you, from France. Thanks Ed for all the laughs, especially in Mock the Week (I bought the dvds of your live shows as well!) and thanks Stuart, who together with Mark, introduced me to brilliant bands that I went and saw live in Paris (Luicius, Fontaines DC and the new ones I'm dying to see when all this shit show is over!) + I really love what Stuart says at the end of the programme. Hope to meet you both some time on this great planet of ours!
Re: Stuart's point about 50mins in... Germany doesn't have a "Charities Industry" like the UK and USA. They believe that a situation requiring charity is symptomatic of a failure of government.
Gotta say Ed, so damn happy to see you doing a proper hike and being fit. I remember some of your older stand-up when you were damn near eating ciggies on stage and I thought, "aw hell, another great comedian who's going to wreck himself prematurely." So good on ya!
What a brilliant video, my favourite broadcaster/contemporary writer interviewed on the the hills by another walker. What is not to like. Nanny State really galvanised my thoughts about the current UK political situation.
That was truly enjoyable. Never realised Stuart Maconie was such an interesting guy. Very listenable in his story telling. I reckon you've got a series here Ed 👍🏻
Ed...found this just tonight looking for archaeology (?) crime solvers and was so glad I did. Lovely 58 minutes...why not an hour ?... of scenery and chat. If it was on the wireless I wouldn't have bothered my arse but Stuart was a real interesting guest Thanks and subbed.
Brilliant, love these so much, best one yet. Hope Ed gets a TV prog out of this, but not at the expense of its magic, which I feel is the length of them, an hour is good. You could quite easily see this being squeezed into 1/2hr on BBC2. Along with programmes like 'Go fishing with Mortimer and Whitehouse', an hours meander is great.
The guy is wrong to trust the state to educate rather than indoctrinate. The latter makes their job easier, the former, much more difficult and less lucrative
I'm so pleased you're doing this series. It's really interesting and makes me miss the outdoors... for a year I've either been at work or at home. The conversation with Stuart Maconie was really curious and I actually learned things. The views were beautiful.
Missing peak bagging with friends at the moment so this is good fun to watch. Fantastic way to conduct an interview and I like how you're both not restricted by standard television sensibilities so you can talk about any old rubbish! Keep up the good work Ed, really enjoying the series and I hope you carry this on for a long while!
I love the politics at the end! It neatly demonstrates the difference in attitude between most Europeans, that trust the Government to be there to care for them, and Americans that appear to think that government suppresses their freedoms, rather than supporting them.
A lot of Americans watch Fox News. No wonder they're paranoid. Plus as an Englishman I have to tell you that if Boris said that the sky was blue, I would have to go outside and check that it's still there at all.
These are simply wonderful. The format is one that I didn't know I needed in my life, but it's now something that I eagerly await consuming. I will happily watch the heck out of this :)
Stuarts polemic spot on. The old North West philanthropists understood this hence the parks and libraries in the region, now alas struggling
One of my favourite comedians interviewing one of my favourite writers in one of this country's most beautiful places. What's not to like?
Oh Ed please please do a wild Atlantic way walk with Tommy Tiernan, he loves a walk
Oh yes please! I live in Australia, but I want to live in Ireland, on the wild west coast. Tommy is one mad Irishman, love him.
Oh, gawd yes. This must happen!
I'm in Canada, and didn't know Stuart Maconie. I enjoyed the walk and the views and the conversation, and knew much more about him by the end. I'm really enjoying this series.
Same here....well in Sweden not Canada, but apart from that!
Fair play to Stuart for climbing and talking so entertainingly at the same time, and to Ed for allowing him to do so. A pleasure to enjoy your company and the wonderful scenery.
More!
Really enjoyed this. Stuart is a great guy.
Its all about balance, well done for making it Stuart, was a point.... Great to hear from you both
Two of my favourite people! Love this bit of the Lake District. ❤️

There are 2 more in the can and I’m hoping to film more after restrictions are lifted. Glad you liked them
😃👌
I can't physically go walking so virtual walking is fantastic. Thanks Ed from Australia.
Greetings from the States! I hope this series continues post-pandemic, it's great.
I can confirm that people in Dumfriesshire do indeed stand at the top of Criffel and point at the Lake District hills! Really enjoyed this. Thank you!
Watching this series again. Still finding it fun to watch!
This conversation was brilliant and interesting. I cannot wait for more episodes. Such great questions!!!!
Thanks Ed, really enjoyed it. I´m a big fan of radio 6 and love listening to Stuart and Mark.
I have his new book lined up to read next. Love this series Ed. So far the walkers have all been very interesting.
What a lovely idea, two episodes in and I hope there are many more!
Funny and informative. Excellent chat between two really interesting blokes
I absolutely love this.... I could listen to you two talking to each other whilst walking the fells all day.... more please!
Great entertainment and looking forward to reading Stuarts new book.
Thankyou Ed, just watched both episodes, back to back, throughly entertaining and informative, and a damn good laugh as well...cheers 👍🇮🇲
Brilliant - really enjoyed that! Stuart’s book getting another purchase😊👍🏻
Hill walking attracts an eclectic mix of people, looking forward to who else is in the series. Love Stuart maconi, that man speaks sense.
This is a great "Talk Show" with a difference...... Great, enjoyed them both.
Would never have seen this series if I hadn’t been binging mock the week clips this lockdown. Blessed by UA-cam recommendations
Really liking this so far Ed. A great relaxing escape for those struggling to...escape.
Loved this, thank you! From Mouans-Sartoux, France. I am missing England in lockdown so this walk with Stuart Maconie was brillant.

You need to do more of these, especially in the Lakes with Stuart, it was great to watch
2 episodes in and this already my new favourite thing! Great interview style, interesting people and epic scenery! Long may this continue!

Ed, I am really enjoying this program. I love the combination of outdoor activity and wonderful conversations. Looking forward to your next post.
That was great. Love a bit of Stu.
Great series so far this. I miss Stuart Maconie each afternoon on the radio, but glad he is enjoying his leisure time.
Class video podcast
Really enjoyed that, been 8yrs since I walked up there, brought it all back. Really interesting chat and you can tell Stuart I've just ordered his book :)
This show simultaneously makes me miss travelling to the UK and Ireland for hill walks, and makes me reminisce about the great ones I did over there🤗🚶🏻♂️
Thank you both, two of my favourites in one of my favourite places - really enjoyed this!
This should be a TV series. 2 episodes in and I'm hooked! Great work Ed
I thoroughly enjoyed this and really looking forward to the next. Please keep it going.
When I was last up Carrock Fell a few years ago I found a geocaching log book which Stuart Maconie had signed. To this day remains the most significant cache I have so far found.
good to know im not the only one getting lost on every big walk! loving these so far
I was thinking after watching Episode 1 I hope he comes to my neck of the woods and here he is! Love living in the Lake District.
I could watch these all day.
Great stuff on all counts, nicely done Ed. :)
Great video Ed. First congratulations to Barry and the camera and sound work. To film you on the move and in that wind is a triumph. What a great format too. Really enjoying this series, cant wait for more!
That, was very very enjoyable.... More please!! :)
This is brilliant, you have got to get these walks on telly, they have BBC4 all over them...
What's wrong with having them here?

Ed please come to my area, cowal in the west of Scotland
The walks are magnificent and views spectacular!
I’d love to. Waiting until we’re allowed
I really like these podcasts, looking forward to the next ones
Brilliant Ed. Just watched 1 and 2 back to back. Looking forward to the next ones.
I hope you are going to do lots of these!
I really enjoyed that, thank you.
I'm really enjoying this series, I hope there is more to come! The scenery is amazing and the conversation is really interesting.

I love this! Made me want to actually go for a proper walk
What a great video! Just two blokes chatting as they walk through beautiful countryside - love it!
Love the views, and also have to say how much I liked Ed's questions and measured conversation
Best part of these ramblecasts is hearing different wonderful accents each time. Loving it :)
As a non-native speaker, I have a really hard time understanding him, easier to understand Welsh, Irish or Glaswegian people than him.
This was great. Up for more like this a nice antidote to the usual UA-cam fare.
That was truly enjoyable. Never realised Stuart Maconie was such an interesting guy. Very listenable in his story telling. I reckon you've got a series here Ed 👍🏻
Comment for the algorithm. But I live this series. Moar Moar.
really hope this just gets bigger and bigger!
This is such a great series! Thank you so much Ed and your glorious collection of guests.

I enjoyed this too. Great to see The New Boy Lard who seems like a top bloke on the radio and it would appear he is brilliant in person too.

Great show
Ep1 also, brilliant format
The guy is wrong to trust the state to educate rather than indoctrinate. The latter makes their job easier, the former, much more difficult and less lucrative
UA-cam keeps deleting this very banal political point about literacy and incarceration. Testing to see if I've used too many key words
I'm not allowed to name your financial district in reference to well educated criminals
Who don't go to jail. Literacy predicts avoiding jail. Criminality is spread evenly if not more so among higher social strata
I'm so pleased you're doing this series. It's really interesting and makes me miss the outdoors... for a year I've either been at work or at home. The conversation with Stuart Maconie was really curious and I actually learned things. The views were beautiful.
Ed - Please take a hike (in a nice way, you understand) with Neil Delamere. The two of you together would be fabulous!!
You're not bad at this podcast business Ed.
Keep then coming please. 👏👏

I long to bump into Maconie on the fells one day, to have a quick chat about Gentle Giant. A truly amazing band of which I hear he is a fan.
just finished watching the two first episodes, love it and I so long to get back to the uk and do some hill walking!
