  • This is the off-meta version of me attempting to explain how to play every single support hero in Dota 2. Note, I'm only gonna be covering the very basics of each hero's kit--just enough for new players or returning players to be able to understand what each hero does. If you have a more advanced tip or disagree with anything in the video, I implore you to leave it in the comments for everyone else! We can all get better at the game--me included!

    For the people who are asking why their off-meta pick isn't here, it is literally impossible to list every single off-meta pick as a support (I would have to list every single hero in the game).
    This video is limited to the specific heroes that I wanted to highlight. If you were hoping to see a pick that wasn't featured in this video, that's unfortunate, but I implore you to share it in the comments so people can actually use it instead of asking me to talk about it.

    weaver actually want more of the skitterstep facet as a support because he will be mostly skipping regular boots and spamming sukuchi with it, makes you mind your positioning more so that you don't somewhat just feed (see pretty same thing happen when you spam swarm instead with exp facet, well unless the swarm provide no bounty whatsoever). Faster momentum to get whatever item needed other than boots since you skip it, but weaver's main point again to be played as support are actually that he can scale a lot better into game phase now instead of just timelapsing your allies back to safety

    • @Vlannary

    *This Post is made by a Religious Sven 4 Player*
    Sven Support is honestly incredibly fun. My favorite way to build him is with a necro mid/carry and just command that mofo to run in much much faster than Valve ever intended by building things like boots of bearing, shard, and vlads. Honestly giving so many buffs, and getting to command the entire speed of a deathball is insanely fun mid game and much more powerful than people give it credit for. We ended up just steamrolling over people who didn't realize they were out of position just because of the sheer speed we could all charge headfirst into them with. Lastly, if your shenanigans don't work early, you are still a sven with a cleave passive. Getting to farm considerably faster just allows you as a support to outfarm the enemy supports insanely fast and become a potential core for your team later on anyways.
    Love the pick, don't sleep on it. It's not "boring".

    As a casual support invoker picker for a few years now, don't sleep on the hero. While I would absolutely agree he should only be taken by people who are already invoker players or are looking to become one, the hero can do a lot even from the support position. Your laning is by far the worst aspect of support invoker so you gotta be careful about who you pick it with/into, but if you can come out of the lane intact you scale extremely well for a support. Midas is an option once you've gotten vessel if the game is slow enough you can get away with it, but even without that you'll eventually get enough levels to start taking points in exort. However even before that you still have some unique tools to offer, since shard emp acts as a budget vacuum, tornado's dispel works to counter some heroes quite effectively, you have invis to get vision and set up ganks, and with just a single value point in exort you get access to defeaning blast's aoe disarm and knockback (exort only affects the damage), alacrity for a chunky attack speed steroid, a super strong slow with icewall (if you can get into position to use the damn thing), and a global 200 damage nuke with sunstrike. Even if he might be outclassed in individual aspects, there is no other support (or hero) that can offer all the things Invoker can.
    Again, though, I still would not give a blanket recommendation for picking up support invoker. It's a slow, squishy, support with a lackluster laning stage that offers very little hard cc and does nothing against bkb'd targets. You can very easily just get bullied early and wind up nearly useless, and often what your team needs is not a complicated swiss army knife of a hero but just some good-old-fashioned stuns and/or a big teamfight ult.
    Also support weaver has been picked a lot in the TI qualifiers, in pretty much all regions, and is always run with the Shikuchi facet and almost never buys aghs. I've mostly seen these weavers go for gleipnir's, orchids, or something scythe of vyse, and attempt to transition into a right clicking core. Personally, I was also expecting a utility support weaver with the swarm facet to be making a return, but right now the Shikuchi facet is too good and the swarm facet is just kind of lackluster (I did some math when the patch first came out, and while I don't remember the exact numbers you need your bugs to stick onto people for a solid duration to not feed more exp than you are gaining). We'll see what future patches bring, though.

  • @ramplant5994
    @ramplant5994 6 днів тому

    On TB support: one of the reason this pick was so powerful last patch was that Doom was strong. Doom's ulti prevents all health regen, which would very often be a death sentence for the large majority of carries, no matter what support you had... unless you had a terroblade. Sunder does not count as healing you see, and there is no issue swapping the health of the carry that is near death with the perfectly healthy support. This made terroblade support a very strong counter to Doom.
    Doom is not picked as often this patch, and the early levels of reflection got gutted, but terrorblade support is still a viable, if situationnal pick against doom and carry heroes with great early right click (such as morphling or antimage).

    Since the facet update I've been spamming pos 4 monke with simian stride, the reduced cooldown means you can basically play as a moving sentry ward while also enabling rapid ganks.
    I've not been buying boots usually building urn, falcon blade and echo sabre as core items, urn is great for healing yourself to stay above 90% hp for the facet while also generally being a great item for supports, falcon blade helps sustain mana due to the absurd amount of spells you will be casting because of your global map presence and echo sabre is just too good on this hero not to buy even enabling you to man fight cores due to jingu mastery. The shard is also a very good item though i wouldnt say its needed most games, i usually just use the alt cast as an escape when needed. Once i have these cheap items im confident in fights and just focus on buying items to fill any gaps in the team such as CC, sustain or even more damage, sometimes the best way to support is by becoming the carry xD
    I usually dont spec any point into my ult until the mid game because it has pretty abysmal damage until you get a few items which you need to get kills to afford so leveling your other spells helps achieve this while also helping keep your teams mental in check because you wont be "stealing" kills lmao

    LC support in this patch works well with pick off heroes that can benefit her dogpile duel facet early, had consistent results with heroes like LS, Riki, and PA due to them providing slows (Riki goes especially hard with this combo do to him having free reign to backshot dueled enemies), going LC support with either of these three pretty much allows you to snowball the lane

      Yeah, Aghs is the "traditional" Pos 4 Weaver build, but now it seems he's the 4th core in high level play. Still, new players should stick to core Weaver because "Off-Meta" builds come and go with patches, but a hero's natural role will always remain viable

And Solar Crest was also nerfed as well. The synergy was way too good. It was free MMR.

    It's been a really long while since I've last played this game, but I do have memories of him being fairly solid in that position, thanks to his ability to disrupt people, and dish out great damage, even with a tiny net worth (plus the familiars seem like a very helpful ability for a support, especially if you're a scrub that wants to keep playing while dead).
    I imagine that playstyle has probably fallen out of favor by now, but an off meta mention would have been nice, to at least see what's up with my beloved ghostly bird after all these years. (Though he was always rather unpopular, and he's not particularly flashy either, so I totally get why you would choose to cover heroes like Invoker, Monkey King or Lina instead)

    I would consider Gyrocopter as a legitimate support though. In pro play he gets equal opportunities being played as either support or carry though I think he performs much better as carry. He's just too incredibly shard reliant to function as a support in the early mid game neccesitating almost always buying it the moment they become available in 15 minutes and that's 1.4k gold better spent on something else better if it was another support. Weaver is also a really good one right now ever since 7.36 came out but I know very little about it coz I don't play him.

    Wait... Enigma is offmeta? I mean he has a REALLY good lane presence and his Ult is BOOSTED and way better channeling ult than some other supports in the list. A decent Enigma that knows when to ult doesnt need too much more than a blink dagger to wreck the enemy team. Is even easier to make his ult work than WD ult. Is not pos 4 his main role? Really????
    Also if this video exists that means unconventional carries will have one too 👀.
    One more thing, as Alchemist you can give Aghs to someone who already has Aghs or Blessing and the whole price with get REFUNDED to them. This even works with Roshan Aghs..

      @Acex2ron  8 днів тому +1

      Enigma is best as an offlaner because of how greedy he is, which is why I'm listing him as "off-meta." While he's a viable support, the issue is most people end up trying to play him as a 2nd Offlaner and build around Black Hole. Blink, BKB, Linkens, Octarine, Refresher are all incredibly expensive items. The issue is when you play this style, you are a Pos 4 that isn't roaming around the map and making their presence felt. You get a few kills with Black Hole, but then it goes on cooldown for what feels like the rest of the early game. Malefice is a decent point and click stun, but it's single target, and dispellable. That and the fact that he's picked as an Offlaner more in high level pubs. As I said in a different comment, he has 2,600 games as an offlaner compared to ~450 as a support (and that's both roles combined).
      He's not a bad support--he's just heavily outclassed. There are better picks like Earthshaker, Lion, and Shadow Shaman who all have powerful teamfighting ultimates, but also contribute much more than Enigma does during their respective ult downtimes.

    Enigma is an actual support though, he's absolutely viable as one, especially after they buffed the support gold a few years ago and you can comfortly go dagger on him. All he needs is dagger and bkb later on to function. And by function I mean using his best gamewinnning spell. His stun is great for lane pressure and kill threat on solo targets and his eidelons free win you the lane by just harassing the enemy. I even think that offlane enigma is a bit of a troll pick since he does literally the same thing support enigma does and you can just have another useful offlane in addition to your black hole, because as you said it yourself he's just his ultimate later on. And while refresher is good, you aren't guaranteed to be able to hit the second black hole because you're extremely squishy even as a core. As for linken/bkb most of the time you only need one. And most of the time it's bkb, since the point and click spells that can go trough bkb are mostly melee range and if they come to you they're gonna get caught in your black hole. Plus even if they have a stun like that, if you have a dagger and are above herald you will just stay in fog and try to catch that target in your black hole. I don't think he fits in "off-meta" supports, he's a solid 4 and an okay 5.

    • @Acex2ron
      @Acex2ron  8 днів тому

      I will say that I debated whether to put him in the main series, but ultimately decided that Offlane is far and beyond his best role. If you go to Dota 2 Pro Tracker right now, you'll see he's picked in ~2,600 matches in high level play as an offlaner compared to ~450 as both a support and hard support combined, and is currently ranked as the number 1 offlaner. When making this series, I just couldn't ignore that level of disparity.
      The reason why I listed him here is because people don't know how to "really" play Support Enigma. They buy greedy items like Blink and BKB and end up trying to build like an offlaner with less farm (even worse, they steal resources from their carries). Your argument about BKB also falls completely flat--Vengeful and Warlock are absolutely popular supports with means of completely ending your black hole.

    • @GiantBUThead
      @GiantBUThead 8 днів тому

      @@Acex2ron Yes Pudge and Venge are really strong right now and they absoltuely beat enigma, no doubt about that. However dota is very reliant on counter picking and as such most heroes have very hard counters. This isn't league where you can one trick every game and get mildly countered by certain picks. Here counterpicks makes it impossible for you to play the hero that's coutnerpicked, unless the counterpicker (or his team) fucks up extremely hard or can't pilot their hero. Some heroes are flexible and can play around this to a degree but enigma is a very specific pick that is not something that you pick every game. And if you pick enigma, even as a position 3 and invest the thousands of gold into both linken and bkb, the enemy can still break your linken despite the bkb being on and the fact that you will block their debuff. Venge has enough range, especially with aether lens that she can just Q and then ult you and your money is absolutely wasted. Pudge's hook goes trough bkb so linken doesn't do anything. If you get counterpicked as enigma by these guys your best bet is to play counter initiation, which is actually the correct way to play any aoe initiator most of the time. You wait for the enemy to show up, group up and then go in. Of course they will try to avoid grouping up in which case you have to choose your targets. You can go on the highest dps dealer but then you're gonna get stopped by your counter or you can go on your counter and secure a 4v5.
      As for the statistics, people are still figuring the patch out, especially with the hundreds of facets and innates. In addition some of enigma's hardest counters are very meta, so if you want to play him effectively you gotta ban those out and pick him versus safer comps that can't stop you.
      Support doesn't always mean buy supporting items. Support means functioning efficiently without farm.
      Anyway I really enjoyed your series and hope you do a series for all roles, it's really fun.

    • @Acex2ron
      @Acex2ron  8 днів тому

      @@GiantBUThead The first part of your response is completely wrong though and makes me question the validity of your argument
      First of all, if you get counterpicked in League, that game is actually unplayable because of how linear the gameplay is. Assuming both players are of similar skill level, a counterpick can completely lopside the lane. In fact, counterpicks are some of the biggest complaints about toplane in that game. In fact, Dota has more counterplay because you get so many options in this game compared to League. If you say that you have no counterplay in Dota, it is more often than not, actually a skill issue.
      The actual way to play Enigma when you're counterpicked isn't to rely on counterinitiation (which depends on the enemy fucking up and getting too bored that they start a fight and completely forget your existence--which is an unreliable strategy that does nothing but create bad habits for players who actually want to get better at the game) it's to not play around a spell that the enemy can just point and click counter. Aurastacking Enigma is very much a thing and has existed in this game forever because people are smart enough to realize that Black Hole, as powerful as it can be, is incredibly inconsistent as a spell. Bad Enigmas are the ones that force him to be a Blink Initiator even when you already have an Axe and Puck on your team
      And yeah support doesn't mean buy support items, but if Vlads and Greaves aren't support items--they're pushing items to help your eidolons take down towers and help your team group up.

    6:57 Are you shitting me? What good is Enigma without a blink? Especially as a support. You suggest Grievers and Vladimir to new players? Dude your advice is going to ruin many many pubs. I play enigma exclusively as pos 4, and I always go arcane boots blink first Item. If there is no silencer and or Rubik, not many things in this game can disrupt your ultimate. Pos 4 enigma with Vladimir is horse crap, his eidolons fall of after the laining stage, any carry can one shot them.
    And without a blink first Item you're just a useless hero, range carries can easily keep distance from you, and or melee carries will focus you last. Enigma without a blink is literally a useless hero, I can not believe with your 12thousand hours on this game you recommend new players not to buy blink ASAP. So far your hero explanations were very good, but this one is just grief

    • @Acex2ron
      @Acex2ron  8 днів тому +1

      There's actually a lot of reasoning for it, and it's actually rooted in pro play.
      First of all, the buildup is a lot more manageable as a support. When you get a raw blink dagger as a support Enigma, you spend like 2000 gold on an item that offers 0 stats, and that also gets delayed if you die before getting it, whereas you get the value from the minor components of Vlads, Drums, and Pipe. With this build, you win teamfights not through landing an amazing black hole (which is still possible) but the fact that you built auras and your team will steamroll through the enemy and completely statcheck them. Then after you win the fight, you have an eidolon army that hits harder with your Vlads, and then have a heal on top of that to waste glyph.
      And remember, when you're playing Enigma Support, it's very likely you have another initiator on your team already. So in a vacuum, you might want to get blink every game, but in reality, the need for it may not be there. Primal Beast, Axe, Centaur, and even Tidehunter come to mind for offlane. Then in the midlane, there's Puck and Storm (with aghs) These heroes already cover the "Blink AoE Initiate" role for the team, so why would you want to build Blink Dagger, again an item that offers 0 stats, to check a box that's already checked in a teamfight? If you have an aura-stacker for an offlaner, like Beastmaster or Underlord, then yeah, Blink Dagger is fine but those heroes aren't common in most brackets, let alone low level pubs.
      And let's not forget that there are a ton of heroes besides just Silencer and Rubick, while those are still his hardest counters, that prevent Enigma from getting a black hole off--and a lot are common picks, both right now, and throughout the game's lifespan. Warlock can hold his ult for Enigma and is currently in a lot of games, Vengeful is a very popular pick and can swap Enigma, or save a teammate if he has enough gold for a Linken. And of course, Pudge with Flayers Hook can easily outrange blackhole. Then there are a bunch of heroes that can just kill Enigma through Blackhole, like the classic Sniper and Drow (who also has a silence).
      Not to mention that the playstyle is simply easier. You give your team value just by existing with Greaves and Vlads, but if you can't land a good black hole (which a lot of new players can't, or the opposite, they play too reserved with the Black Hole and end up never using it), you actually become a useless hero because you built around landing a spell that you can't use.
      And if you go to Dotabuff right now, and check Enigma's item builds, you'd see that Vlads has a 56% winrate, Greaves has a 65% winrate, and Boots of Bearing has a 69% winrate--and not just like with a tiny sample size of like 5,000 games or something. Of course, take this with a grain of salt, because Enigmas who aurastack are usually the ones that already know how to play the game--but I cannot in good faith tell people to pick Enigma support and build around being a blink initiator. The hero is so much more than just Black Hole and it's disheartening to see people believe otherwise.
      If you're an Enigma that's useless without Blink Dagger, then you're just a bad Enigma
