Changing the way you eat and adding more exercise will be far more beneficial for your health long term than taking medications or supplements, but if foods and exercise don’t work for you supplements or prescriptions are always an option. Your first step is a recipe for failure. It is unrealistic to assume a person who is sedentary can immediately walk 10,000 steps (5 miles) a day, 7 days a week. They don't even recommend that amount 7 days a week for people who are healthy walkers. Instead, if you have not walked in a long time, start with a realistic 3000-4000 steps per day and increase as you become more used to the exercise. Building to 10,000 steps has a much better chance of succeeding than an unrealistic starting expectation.
