I am not worried about my high cholesterol. Older adults with high levels live longer than those with artificially lowered cholesterol. Look up the studies. Cholesterol is of major importance in regulating our immune system. Every cell in our body has a cholesterol need including and especially our brain. You must consider relative risk vs absolute risk when assessing studies that claim that statins are “ the bomb”. Also, since EVERYONE is on a statin, why is it that heart disease is still the number one killer in America. Huh? Doesn’t make sense.

My doctor put me on meds for high cholesterol. I am 79. I saw some negative things going on in my body and memory. I took myself off the meds and it took some time but my memory is getting so much better. My thoughts on those numbers supplied for the blood tests are a bunch of crap. I told my doctor that if they would stop changing the numbers, there would be a lot less people doing the pill highway. I feel good and whatever happens I want to enjoy the rest of my life.

You have to learn about colesterol before you talk about it! Your colesterol levels being lower after eating as you say, eat healty and exercise is not the reason, you can't influense your colesterol very much, not with food anyway, your liver makes the colesterol the body need! You can reduce this with statins not with food! . The total colesterol level in body changes all the time, based upon what your body needs. This is partycularly important to know, to understand how important colesterol is for the body and cell function. The brain eks contains almost 30% colesterol, used to serve the neurons. Colesterol is 100% your freind, not enemy. Just ask and i will tell you more about colesterol!

Cholestene works great for me and have had 3 normal liver and kidney funtion tests on it the past 3 years. When i first started, I dropped my total cholesterol 98 points in 2 months, had kidneys and liver checked as normal then backed down to 3 pills and scored a 176 total cholesterol one year later. Perfect. Consumer Labs calls this supplement as the safest and is citrinin free. Its $17 for 120 pills so i take 3 a day and it lasts me 40 days per bottle. It did not raise my A1C. I take all three pills at bedtime or after my last meal of the day and suggest drinking at least 8oz. of water to avoid a headache. This was my only issue and i ended it with more water. Works for me. Good luck.

I already eat healthy and work out every day. I do NOT want to take statins. I have been adding a lot more fiber to my diet. I have been seeing a lot that Bergamot and red yeast rice are good supplements to take, so I will be trying them as well. What I really appreciate is that you are very specific (what brands, how much to take, and when best to take it). Invaluable info. Excited to add this to my stack and recheck my cholesterol in 2 months to see if there is any improvement.
Just wanted to ask, will red yeast rice negatively impact triglycerides or HDL? My numbers here are borderline bad (140 trigs, 58 HDL), so I don’t want to take anything that will lower HDL or increase trigs. Thank you!🙏🏻

Our doctor was very happy to see that his cholesterol went into the normal range and after watching for 1 year, our doc decided to try this with other patients who couldn't tolerate statins.
He takes the standard dosage, measured out and added into some tomato juice. It won't dissolve in water. He's never had any issues with the supplement powder of RYR. Glad it works for you too!!

I did get referred to a cholesterol clinic at my local tertiary hospital run by a cardiologist...at the time I was recovering from a craniotomy for a removal of an acoustic neuroma...a benign tumour on my auditory nerve and was dealing with chronic headaches, so I ended up losing a significant amount of weight...walking up and down a corridor in the oncology clinic I worked at and not eating very much due to the chronic pain I had, and it had the effect of lowering my cholesterol as I dropped to an Australian size 6 from a size 14...my cardiologist thought I had weight loss surgery I looked so different…my answer was no I've been unwell...after 4 years of working 2 days a week the pain got so bad I had to retire due to ill health and with better pain control of course some of the weight has come back, but I was surprised at my DRS reaction when I said I was eating the plant sterol margarine... I’ve been on statin for about 5 years now. My cholesterol was at heart attack level and I only weigh 110 and have literally been a fitness instructor for over 15 years. The statin really messed me up but….. because I already have atherosclerosis of the ascending aorta( heart damage and blockage) I decided to stay on it after 2 episodes where I thought I was have a heart attack! The last one I did get hospitalized and had stress tests done the next day and I was told I was in great shape and doing fine. But then I found I found out I was diabetic and that was 1 thing making me have brain/ memory issues. So I stuck with my diet and 3 years later I got my blood glucose under control naturally without medication and I am still on statin for my cholesterol because apparently it’s genetic and haven’t been able to change it through diet and working out! You just have to do the cost benefit analysis and 4 years into taking statin I can say through diet, exercise and taking my statin& Asprin daily I feel so much better now at 64. I still workout daily for at least an hour which has help my muscles grow and I look pretty darn good 💪 😂

Thank you very much for the information Doctor. Trying to parse out the latest research and recommendations is a full time job in of itself. Shouldn't we making a distinction between LDL's and VLDL's in terms of overall cardiovascular risks? It is my understanding that VLDL's due to their small dense structure, lack of buoyancy and oxidation potential are the real culprits but, only in the presence of gross injury. Statins, as I understand them, do very little to have a meaningful impact on absolute risk reduction with regards to VLDL's. Will simply lowering LDL's through any supplementation mitigate risk so long as endothelium injury continues?

The right red yeast rice absolutely works. I first used red yeast rice about 10 years ago after being told I had high cholesterol. The doctor wanted me to come back in 2 months to get it checked again and if it was bad again I was to be put on a statin. I found out about red yeast rice, took 1200 mg per day for 2 months and had another blood test. My doctor's office called me a couple of days later and said, "What have you been doing? Your total cholesterol dropped 40 points." I don't remember the other numbers. Recently though my cholesterol numbers have gone back up because apparently the red yeast rice I used for years no longer has enough of the active ingredient in it. I am anxious to try one of these 2 the doctor recommends in this video.

And lately he’s been telling me his legs feel like they’re dying and they don’t want to move. Now he has brothers and sisters that are not on statins that have lived to be 90 and are still alive. I really don’t think he’s gonna live as long as his brothers and sisters. My dad is on 14 medication‘s for high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes. And The honest truth, I don’t think he needs to be on any of it. If it were me, I would’ve never started taking them, but I would just go off of everything. He feels so bad all the time. And this is been going on for 20 years. He’s on three meds for blood pressure, his statin, a blood thinner, metformin, etc. When he changes a doctor, the new doctors never reevaluate his health. They just continue on with the same medication that he tells them that he’s on from the past Dr.. Our medical system is so broken.

Go as food based as possible. Check for testing!! Where its made. I think all of our meds/vaccines are MADE IN CHINA. proceed with caution.

My GP googles what I tell her and is quite happy to discuss it. She was happy for me to take red yeast rice supplements, and agreed that I would have liver and kidney function tests as I would if I was taking a statin. I’m in Australia.

Hello Dr Dave! I’m unable 😢 to take red rice yeast supplements as I get muscle pain from it. Do you have any tips on what I can take instead? I would be very grateful! Thank you for your wonderfully detailed and informative videos! Greetings from Germany 😊

My doctor recommended red yeast rice with cq10. I though because just liked cq10, but saw mention that red yeast rice decreases cq10. Anything to the issue with cq10? Thanks

Great information except that I have been taking a Red Yeast brand that wasn't included in the research. I haven't had any problems but noticed it has extra ingredients...just wondering if you have heard anything about the Weider brand. I will definitely try the ones you listed here.

The first one looks decent. Rice and gelatin for the capsule
      But the heart one?? Soy?

but we have to address the basic question: Where is the causation correlation between Cholersterol and CVD ? I see tons research pointing to "correlation." Trees sway when there is storm. But does holding the trees firm stop the storm? PLUS WHAT IF THE HIGH CHOLESTEROL IS INDEED NEEDED AT THAT POINT?

    Thanks for this advice Dr.
some time ago after research I dumped my Statins in the bin to my Doctors
    disbelief.
The only thing that concerns me is the Yeast in the product.
Would that spike the level of Urate in my blood which knowingly causes Gout?

Don't blame the doctor. He can only believe what the pharmaceutical salesmen tell him and also must follow the "Standard of Care".
I'm a field medic and I must follow the SoC for my level whether it's the best thing in the moment or not.

I take Red Rice Yeast by Solgar....it has lowered my total number, but the LDL is still very high....I rarely eat sugar, junk food, or baked goods ...why has it not gone down as well?

It's genetics. Most of our ancestors were plant eaters so we make and hold onto dietary cholesterol since our ancestors didn't get much their diet so they/we evolved with that.
