Thanks for doing this video. My 461 has been spot on with the carb settings you put it at. I richened it up slightly when it gets really cold here. It can be confusing setting the high jet with a tachometer and the limited coil unless you know the ideal RPM in the cut and being mindful of the needle position in relation to the recommended stock setting while you are adjusting. One cannot stress enough that you have a sharp chain and make sure your air filter is really actually clean before adjusting the carb. Shine a light into the filter and make sure you can see light through it on the HD-2 filter. Clogged pores on these filters really hurts the power of the saw. Checking your spark plug after adjusting and running for awhile is a good idea as well.
Great tips. On the new 461I got in last week, I popped off the little metal cover that goes around those caps, then pulled them both out to tune it. Great point about cutting air! Saw only cuts wood when the chain is touching it 😎👍
Hey, Thanks Donny! Glad I subbed to your channel after stumbling across your videos over at Buckin Billy Ray's. I never felt my 461 needed any adjustment after installing the Bark Box from West Coast Saws. They actually recommended grinding off the tabs and retuning after installation but I held off. I figured I'd get the hang of running the saw without modification, then grind if needed; but aside from some minor adjustments for cold and different performance gasolines, it never needed a boost. Pulls just fine with a 36" bar through everything except the largest Live Oak around here. In hard, wavy oak I just let the saw pull itself, no encouragement from me. Only bogs a bit if I start really leaning on it. Again, that would be running a 36" bar with a full house chain, square filed. I have a hunch though, that's because I need practice on my square filing. I'm terrible at it, but opportunity for practice is knocking.. With a 24 inch bar on it, the saw couldnt care less what I'm cutting.
Can I keep the adjustment limiter out after removing? A friend said they need to go back in, but wouldn’t shaving the small tab off be the same as not having them at all? Thank for the help
Hi Donny! Just clarifying, you're removing the limiter caps just to double check the carb is at stock setting? I'm assuming you can set the high and low to those stock settings with the limiter caps still on? Thanks
Can't buy that kind of experience and wisdom, you can only earn it by doing the job. Great stuff! Thanks for sharing the love
Thanks for the info I just picked up a 461. I'll dial in those settings
