When I was fourteen, I used a fake ID singing the clubs in Dallas, Texas. I was in a girl's band called the Telephones and we opened up for Devo when they were just an underground punk band back in the late seventies. Life was so powerful back then.
I can’t agree with you emphatically enough. If you cover a well-known song, you’ve gotta do it better, or creatively create an interpretation so creative that your gob-smacked fans cannot help but say “worth it !!”
This is one of the best covers that I've ever heard! The opening grooves at the beginning of this jam are funky as hell! The opening of the drum beats grooves into the nasty bass licks then slides into the wicked guitar riffs! That shit is funky! The vocals are also perfect for the style and sound of this groove! This song is youthful and timeless. It's creative and ahead of its time. It has elements of funk, punk, new wave, and rock. This song captured the essence of the times. It also captures the brilliance and genius of DEVO!

just heard Jerry Casale tell the story that this song was written around the guitar riff that comes in last. With Alan playing kind of a backwards drum beat. So Jerry decided to play a backwards reggae line, starting on the 2, not the 1. Mark originally sang lyrics to a different song. But on the suggestion of Bob 2 tried the lyrics of satisfaction. And there it was.
I might not agree with your assessment of the artistic merits of this version vs the original, but it is a top flight cover. So much so that Jagger said it was the best cover of Satisfaction he ever heard.
This is the best cover of any song EVER! I like it much better than the original. I saw Deco first time in 81 and again in either 82 or 83 and most recently at Punk Rock Bowling this last Memorial Day. I first heard them on the radio in 1980
Great Dance would💜to see you complete entire 1980 song! Guy sleeping on couch wakes up smiling at end😂🤣 👏🏼 Great job guys, bringing back my fav song at 10 yrs old, 💜Roller Skating to this song❣️ Tks for the memories 💟
I can remember the first time I saw this, which was also the first time I'd heard this or even heard of Devo most likely. It was a late night music show like Don Kirchner or Midnight Special or something. The rest of the family were asleep thankfully. I recall being a little. ..is scared the right word? Nervous? It was off putting for me with how much I liked it. I was a 70's stoner kid, Zeppelin, Floyd, (70's) Aerosmith. I liked a certain sound, look and swagger and this just exploded out of the TV and was so amazing! I still like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath etc but after this I really expanded what i listened to and often just took a chance on a new band. I got a lot of crap from other kids for listening to new wave and punk and frankly, anything that was really good! But I feel sorry for the people who can't open their mind a little and take some chances because they missed out on a lot of amazing music and art.
Yes Devo has the music to stand on its own and many say they don't need the gimmicks and props etc. NO way ! This is the band when I was 13 that I saw perform this song on MTV and it weirdly changed my curve on music listening forever mainly because of the outfits, props, gimmicks and style.
@jiece0marlow Spaz Attack is the dudes name. And, speaking of THAT, it so happens that he did also perform, as a back up dancer, on a Bowie concert tuor ( Glass Spider '87 ) .
Since Toni Basil choreographed the Glass Spider tour, do you think she had a hand in Spazz's dance here? If you weren't there, in the late 70s, Spazz would dance like this in clubs. Basil did do a few Devo videos. Coincidence? ua-cam.com/video/jwzxHTD-n-M/v-deo.html

As far as I'm concerned, this is how you do a cover.
Correct - I get nothing but satisfaction watching this lunacy.
