You should go look at how to get those Direct Injectors in and out before you think that this is really DIY. They are NOT easily removed and installed like port injectors.
The addition of ethanol into gasoline now a days makes using OEM O-rings and gaskets even more important, as ethanol is known to corrode rubber components.
Two quick ultrasonic cleaning tips: >Put the injector inside a small plastic bag and fill the bag with the cleaning fluid. Then fill the ultrasonic cleaner full of water and it the bag in the water, means you don't have to fill the ultrasonic cleaner full of cleaning liquid. >Never put metal directly on the bottom of the ultrasonic cleaner, it can damage both parts, a think sheet of plastic or paper is enough. Look at the more expensive ultrasonic cleaners and you'll see they have cages to stop objects sitting on the bottom.
Thank you my brother for posting this video because we asked you about how to clean gdi injectors It shows how a great person you are and how you care about helping people Really appreciate you brother
Perfectly safe as well. I was an Electronics Engineering Tech. We used ultrasonic liquid cleaning for military grade electronic components during the manufacturing process. This cleaning process was required by our contracts with the Aviation companies that were our customers.
a single puff of smoke from the tail pipe thats only there upon first startup is also a leaking nozzle/fuel injector because when you shut it off at night it drips all through the night into the cylinder untill the fuel rail pressure subsides, and makes a pool of gas on the piston top that turns into that puff of smoke when you start it up the next day
Years ago I attached a long hose to an injector, filled it with seafoam, pressurized it and applied intermittent power to the injector. Worked great. If you don't have an ultrasonic cleaner it might be worth a try.
A cheap way to clean injectors out is to soak the nozzles in a small cup of injector cleaner. Let them soak for an hour or more if they are nasty. If they are dirty it usually turns the fluid in the cup orange. Once done spray off the nozzle with some parts cleaner spray.
I have used Injector Repair LLC in upstate NY and he charges less than $20 US dollars for ultrasonic cleaning, changes O rings, seal and screens and give a full test sheet with dynamic and static testing, Brought the 4 Bosch Injectors on my Porsche 944 back to factory spec.
I sure will be adding an ultrasonic cleaner to mine! Thanks, so obvious, yet I never thought of running the mode 4 tester while in the shaky bath. I’ve already got an injector tester similar to yours, but I have Toyota connectors spliced in with the original spade leads.
I use the sonic machine all the time, on any small parts, it cleans like magic, I do alot of motorcycle repair and especially carburetors, my tank is small so so I pull.the float bowls and sometimes have flip the carb and half at a time, I got at harbor freight, about 100$, mine heats up and I use water and dawn dish soap, I also do 3 or 4 cycles, yes i use water and dawn dish soap, about a couple good squirts per tank, its gets dirty fast, but work fantastic, a great to have for every mechanic, and and very nice video, short, sweet, and informative
This is why at the dealer I work at, we recommend a fuel injection cleaning every 30k miles, and its $130. We do 2 separate services depending on if ir vehicle is direct injected or port injected
Great job. Never thought about using an ultrasonic cleaner. Seafoam, yes. I just run a couple of cans in half a tank of fuel from time to time for that concentrated effect. I use my car for fleet work. ( 6 hours plus a day )
My friend turn the injector where its front part is facing down into the liquid so the sonic waves can go up in the little holes that are clogged. You are just laying it on its side and if u clean it also like i pointed out it will allow those holes to really get clean. Just tryin to help.
You cannot set metal directly on the bottom of the ultrasonic cleaner, that reflects the energy back into the transducer and you will destroy it. You need to use something to act as a spacer a little plastic tray works great.
That cleaner is hard on the rubber, you should remove the gaskets from the injector before throwing them in, also would be ideal to put a piece of plastic between the bottom of the ultrasonic cleaner and the metal part of the injector.
Ultrasonic cleaners were first introduced to clean endoscopic surgical instruments, and then jewellery and now this, my suggestion is why not get a bigger ultrasonic bath and clean a catalytic converter with diesel & petrol.
Good video. To save cleaning agent, first put part in zip bag together with minimum amount of cleaning agent. Then fill ultrasound bath with ordinary water and put bag in it.
We recondition diesel and petrol injectors. .we have heated ultrasonic cleaners for the petrol injector cleaning 80 degrees Celsius for 2 hours. Job done.
I'm glad it worked for you. I've sometimes caused fuel injectors to start leaking (aka ruined) by ultrasonically cleaning them on the proper injector machine. Don't know why but it's happened a few times now.
If they have rust inside the nozzles the ultrasonic will remove the rust and then they will leak. I've had this happen several times on injectors that were sitting in a car that wasn't in use for a few years.
Just get them replaced. These Acadia are known for poor fuel injectors. They leak. I always replace them as they will damage the catalyst if not replaced sooner
Unfortunately my BMW X1 Diesel fuel filter was never replaced under the maintenance plan! The first time it was replaced was when I took it to a after motorplan service centre. It still had the manufacturing date on.
That's great! Thanks for the information. I have a Honda with over 200,000 miles. There doesn't seem to be a problem but maybe I'll pull them out and clean them anyway. I just have to get an fuel injector tester.
As borkganza says, if it runs good, do nothing. The biggest problem you have with cars that are not a daily car and are parked long. The ethanol in the fuel cloggs the injectors.
Years ago I had a shop tell me they would cleaner my injectors. They are just a solenoid or coil alot of times you can energize them and just spray some sort of solvent through it. I tried it on a hunch and it cleaned them right up but the ultrasonic cleaner is probably more thorough.
@@amarsta do not over do it with the voltage. You'll have to look up what it is. I think I used a 9 volt battery on mine. It was a long time ago. I don't think a lot of them run a full 12 volts. Which will actually be like 13-14 volts with a good car battery.
Good video, BUT a tip. Put the cleaning agent and the injector in a bag. Then fill the ultra sonic cleaner with water. Now You put the bag with the injector in the water. This way you can use far less cleaning agents,
replacing your fuel filter often and using quality fuel seems better. I have 2 2005ish ford focus at about 170k and never touched the injectors. Just Filter occasionally and some MMO occasionally. I'm in a dry climate. Wet and Salty climates might have more fuel issues.
Have you ran diagnostics to see if they are still running to spec? I would imagine they are not, but I am a firm believer of if it ain't broke dont fix it. So I am with u on the filters and fuel
Thank you for your videos... I think after replacing many parts, sensors and miscellaneous costs...far too much money. Its the fuel injectors... So got o ring repair kit, and some cheaper injectors to swap out incase there cracked. Either way you have been helpful and ive learned a lot. Wish me luck...its been a painful game of wack a mole.
I just run sea foam in the fuel tank every oil change. Never have had to change an injector on any car in 30 years. Oil change put half a can in the engine before you change your oil, the rest in the fuel tank been doi g that since the mid 1990's, works for me and is 10 bucks.

Man.... Dealership's are gonna hate you for this one !

This is hardly anything new. There is an entire industry doing this. This just shows that it can be done "at home" 👍👍

Yeppers! ANd it keeps perfectly good injectors out the landfill!
I highly recommend also changing the seals/o-rings every time you take a direct injector out.
Yes good idea
Are they available for sale those seals/O-rings from manufacturer if so where can they be bought at ??
I was literally going to ask that!
I've found kits at local parts houses with various common o ring sizes for AC components (green), I think they have fuel kits too.
The addition of ethanol into gasoline now a days makes using OEM O-rings and gaskets even more important, as ethanol is known to corrode rubber components.

Not specific enough instructions ended up getting my balls stuck under the spare wheel in the boot of car
I use a similar method but just use a jam jar or suspend the part in a tin which has cleaning liquid in whilst the USC has water in it
Ya that's not why the mesh is there. And resting on the bottom isn't bad for them. You just want to decouple it.

I have an otc canister injector cleaner. I disable the fuel pump and let the car run only on otc injector cleaner, this has worked well.
I clean carburetors the same way now. I don’t bother taking them apart anymore. Just ultrasonic bath in solvent.
On aircraft engines, we would soak the injectors in Hoppes No. 9 gun cleaner, then blow them out. Usually ran great after that!
Good to know!
So smart, using the ultrasonic cleaner!! Im about to get a bump in MPGs
Run Shell 93 and techron and it will clear up most symptoms in one tank full. Amazing actually.
