It is an interesting conversion. Can’t wait to see it all put to the test. The filmed detail of this conversion has been brilliant. At first it had my curiosity, then it had my attention.
If you want to clean off oxidization on alloy castings get some cheap domestic oven cleaner from the supermarket. Look for one with warnings about not using on aluminum. That is the one you actually do want. Spray it on but do 'NOT' leave for more than 2 minutes. Hose it off and repeat if necessary. Then if particularly fussy you can use some fine wet and drive sand paper and polish etc. Otherwise just coat the deoxidized allow with WD40. Test on something unimportant/junk first.
Would the barra be a good full size truck engine to replace my ford 5.4 3v triton engine? I’d be using it to tow my race vehicle on weekends occasionally also.
The real question is, why is the 1HDFTE such a low performer ? My FG XR6T Barra makes 1100nm at the wheels on only 15psi on u98 at 3000rpm. Worlds apart as far as perfomance is concened. And, stump pulling 1500rpm diesel torque will break everything in the old 80 series drive line, so petrol is better - ie torque spread out over more of the rpm range to preserve the drive line. Yes, I also had 2x 80 series.
Mackielec flex plate retainer kit and ARP flywheel bolts are a much better deal than welding. Also, add a yellaterra flex plate for reliability. Why did you fit a ba rocker cover when an fg na cover works better with the coils and looks better? Cheers
Burto might have to answer but something to do with the wiring/electrics matching the ECU from the terrority we are using, being less headaches/wiring dramas down the track
@@TylerThompson90 ok cool. Thanks. The use of a haltech ecu is also a good idea. The added engine safety's the haltech offer are definitely worth the investment
They are a common issue. We have used Loctite, a dowel kit into the crank and special non slip washers. But our application is North of 700rwkhp. Honestly a good mod. Doing this on the side of a track would not be fun. Bush proofing it.
Well, that's a first for me, never seen anyone weld flexplate bolts before. I'd be concerned you've just created a heat fracture point myself but what would I know. Have seen a 4JJ1 swap where those bolts came loose and gearbox had to removed again to torque them up to spec, so yes do understand the issue but never seen it done. Would I do it? Nah! Lots of work, engine swaps are. Gotta be keen to follow through with them. Myself, wouldn't bother, if ZD30 ever goes bang I'll get same for same myself.
They are notorious for coming in done for some reason. On my XC Barra turbo, we doweled the flex plate into the crank and used a special non slip washers kit from atomic performance). There are a couple of different ways to skin a cat in this space
I hope my missus doesn’t get involved in a prang, just did a port n polish on the head and matched all the bolt on manifolds. You’re surprised how mis-matched the two piece inlet manifold is from factory, 5mm. Kid you not
Yea good point. But in general Toyota engines are so detuned. A bit of time on a reputation tuner who knows what they are doing and it can be a different engine.
I feel like we need to crowd fund a garage creeper for Burto. Or a hoist. Or both.
Haha I read that as burrito for some reason
Shame they're in Sydney and not Brisbane
I'd let them use mine, just sling me a couple shirts as payment 😂
Haha we do need one
zf auto,,maybe you should of gone for the mwm sprint.tdi.. 4.2.. 700 nm, tdo6.. winner.. barra,,bs..@@TylerThompson90
ooohhh toyota,,got a weak point.. probably the fkn name.. there sht.. & nissan,, get a real 4x4.. @@TylerThompson90
Shoutout to Burto being the real MVP of this build, nice work brother.
Burto is awesome on the tools and Tyler is a gun on the editing. Great team!
That’s some pretty impressive welding right there!
Love the banter about "using the brakes". 😁😁 Great progress. When done, it will both have show and go.
Thanks mate
Man this is becoming my go to UA-cam keep
Up the great content mate.. you got to give us a run down cost when it’s all done🙏🏻
Appreciate it mate!

Bloody good work Demi. We would have been waiting for ages if didn't take the forethought to bring the Barra swap forward.
I commented on the video when you asked what colour the valve cover should be and I said Same colour as the decals lol good to see it happened 😅
hahahahaha, having a sook! Love how the channel has change Tyler with Demi, the mates and builds. Burto top bloke.
I was right! The rocker cover matches the stripes!
Happy trails, Cowpokette
Gday, starting to come together now, I like the colour on the rocker cover, nice choice Demi, top episode, cheers
Thanks! 👍
Looks great. The black with the wood edges look really good.
When burto said to Demi what turbo and she said a fast one then he said won’t be long till the second crash then haha 😂😂😂
Great work People and I bet your glad the front of the block got polished , looks heaps better!
Solid vid, good work fellas, some legit work going on there!
Tyler is a legend!! Awesome episode…
Love the banter and humour 👍
Awesome episode, great teamwork all round, even seany at end 👍👍. Its gunna be a beast 🤠
Cheers mate! 😁
Its coming along well mate. Great to see what goes into a conversion too!
Thanks mate 👍
Another good one.. im putting a barra in my gu in january, all bolt in... cant waite!! 🤣
Demi nailed the timing of TWSS😂. Great build guys.
As expected, Bordo & Debbie (did I get that right?) are great together! ❤️
Burtos worth his weight in gold, bloke knows his shit!
Good to see everyone on the tools
Burto has been a great addition to the channel. Quality shit stirring between him and Demi 😂

Great vid, Burto is a funny ff..😂😂… great music selection also 👍
Thanks 😁
“Are we going to get a brake upgrade? Possibly the main thing is you actually have to use your brakes” 😂 gold. So quick ha
haha!
Lol Tyler’s welding now!?
I think you just took his job boys!! 😂
Good idea with the welds 👍
Obviously Tyler not feeling inflation or rate hikes, would love this rich guys life. 👍
Find something you love doing, work very hard at it for a lot of years and you can have success too 👍
Can not wait for this old rig to fire up and go for a hoon!!!!!!!
Great team effort. Great viewing 👌
Thanks!
Really hope that baby is in, and it doesn't turn into a 3 engine build........
Looking good 🕶🤙👍
Wouldnt welding a brace make it weaker where the welds have heated through the chassis
Burto is the highlight of these videos.
03:10 is that penetrative welding on the chassis? If so, that piece will need to be engineered.
Would the barra be a good full size truck engine to replace my ford 5.4 3v triton engine? I’d be using it to tow my race vehicle on weekends occasionally also.
Just wondering if you have the engine mount video and fitting of engine
this series should be called burto and the barra turbo!
Burto would make any job fun he is a crack up
Legend…. Love ya work
A milestone progress. Great work guys. 👍
Looking Good🤩
Mate nicely done and a common conversation from what I understand. But can I ask why you didn't choose to go with a Toyota 1HD-FTE.
Wanted the ZF6 speed auto that comes with the barra and FTE conversion is more expensive

Gotta get it done by the Toyota event in Coffs ay.
Might be there on a trailer 😂
@@TylerThompson90 ….isnt that how all landcruisers end up? (Ducks) 😜
Yeah pretty standard haha
I hope he pays his mechanic good aye you struck gold with him
He struck gold with Tyler 🙂
So you could just use locktite im feeling you affected the balance of that flywheel?

Sometimes you just gotta send it.
Agreed, never in my life have I seen anyone weld bolts to flex plate. It was a bit more than a tac too.
That aside, they've done this conversion well.
@@deancranley2241 the locking plate option is the best. I just used arp bolts and lock tight, been good for the last 5 years.
Yeah its pretty common on these Barra's, people weld the flex plate bolts on

Awesome what was the last song playing
From ArtList, a website a pay to use their music in UA-cam videos
Relocating the Alternator?
Yep got the power steering/alternator relocation bracket coming
I hope you bought old mate a carton for polishing the chrome piece up!
Where is the final episode of the build or did I miss something
We are in the VHC at the moment but when we return next week we will be straight into continuing the build.
wens the hoist n benches coming TT.
Got a bench in there now, hoist one day haha
What are your plans for the Toyota Corolla coupe? They are a rare car now.
That's Josh's from next door, he is engine swapping/re spraying it etc soon
Bought a car once it had the flywheel bolts welded on, hated that cnt.
Shoulda put a new rear main seal in!
Looking good guys
Yeah Burto said to leave it cause it ain't leaking
Hope it all goes to plan! BA BF FG should be the same. Trust me they are not. Don't even try changing throttle control.
Great show/vid......
Burto is a total chief
Wonder what the next vid could possibly be titled
Tune in next Sunday to find out
Looks like Daddy's shop
Tyler , do you know anyone interested in a GU Ute with a TD45 stroker engine?
Nah I don't mate
Nice rocker cover on a rusty block why ??
Because you'll see the rocker cover, will barely see the block under the intake and exhaust manifold, turbo and everything else
should of been nipple pink !
Should have sourced a Toyota/lexus ls400 v8 1uzfe engine and turbocharged it instead of the barra🤷♂️
we want corolla videos... oh just me.
Yea good point. But in general Toyota engines are so detuned. A bit of time on a reputation tuner who knows what they are doing and it can be a different engine.
Do you really need to turbo it? Drive it first you will be surprised how well it will go without a turbo.
Too late now, turbo is here
Great job guys always good to see a sexy woman working on her car. 😊😊 also u shud paint engine block 😢😢
Who going to dyno the engine
haven't booked anyone yet
Completely irrelevant but your better half is looking trim! More handy on the tools than you aswell. Good job bud
🤦♂️
Why do you keep saying sazi? Listen how your mechanic says it.
Who puts a Ford engine in a Toyota?!?!? 🤣
