Oh damn. I really miss it how producers use real sugars and natural fruit juices to make products. Almost everything nowadays are made with corn sugars!
OMG, I can't believe that Chicken ala King survived. Some folks liked it but I sure never did. However, when in the field, you get what you get and there is probably no MRE that is not fixable with things like hot sauce and cheese sauce! The freeze-dried version looked MUCH better!

I was in LRSD in 1998 and I do not remember a LRP ration. We got the same ration as the regular infantry. I do however remember Chicken ala King. The hard noodles were the best for snacking on. This, version of the Chicken ala King, Ive never seen. Chicken ala King was always a huge Infantry favorite, I remember alot of us fighting over this one, well, mainly because people just didnt like the others that were available. Also, the John wayne bar (OATMEAL COOKIE BAR) and the Chocolate oatmeal cookie bar were huge too in the infantry. It kept us going while on the march. Bad part, you usually didnt crap for a day or so, so when you did, it was painful.
Hey Steve, when I was in the army through 85-88. We loved chicken ala king. We would trade for it. I don't know why people say it was the worst. It was the best.

That chicken in there is only a handful of years younger than me! And those Skittles were cool to see too. When I was with 3/8,a Marine Grunt unit in 84. We would mix a pack of sugar in the coffee creamer. Roll seal the end and cook in over a fire or coals flipping to keep from burning for a minute. Let cool and you have a sugar (Ranger) cookie.
I haven't had chicken a la king in ages. They used to serve it when I was in Job Corps. It was one of the few meals there I could stomach. And it actually tasted good, too.
I have to say.. this is one of my favorite of your videos. It is two years plus some days later, and this is something I dream about. Chicken a la King is only good either freshly prepared or dehydrated like that. The other way just looks disgusting in the first place.
I dont know about everyone else, but i much prefer this approach of speeding up of the video instead of the jump cuts. those were slightly seizure inducing at times!
Great spoons in these MREs. I traded in my lexan spoons for these plastic MRE spoons. Not as durable but all around better for general purpose trekking.

We used to have to warn guys about selecting that particular menu. Guaranteed someone would eat it and get sick. They were terrible.

Amazing dude. A LRRP ration? Those guys were unbelievably tough.....comparable to Ord- Wyngate and his jungle fighters.
I remember the factory where these were produced in McAllen, Texas. I ate one of their MREs during Medical Readiness Training in the Air Force.
