Hi Liam, I purchased my first harmonica just yesterday. I'm finding your instruction just great. I'll be turning 71 years old in just a few days and I'm looking forward to seeing how far I can go!
its nice to hear from older players, I am 74 and a widower, learning the harp has really helped me with lifestyle, I meet younger players and it seems they don't care how old I am and treat me as a fellow harp player and not an old man lol
Jim Church, that's great to hear. I try to practice a little each day and I'm seeing progress. I'm looking forward to being able to play with others soon.
Omg same!!! I just got mine today!!! It's soooooooo easy, I started without using tutorials (this is the first one I've watched) so I used post its so cover the notes that I don't need so I can make my way around it a bit better. Like seriously, I've got a song or two down within like an hour of just playing around while watching tv!!! Doesn't sound great, but the tune is there! Good luck!
I just bought my first harmonica. I want this so much. I want it for myself. I tried playing the guitar for 5 years. I'm not giving up on making music. Just trying a different approach.
Thank You! The tip about breathing is exactly what I needed to hear today. I tried it as soon as you said it--it worked beautifully! I couldn't manage to learn French horn as a child because of asthma. Now that I'm 71 and just started learning to play harmonica, I was recently diagnosed with a recurrence of asthma and possible pulmonary artery hypertension. My first visit since the CT scan with the pulmonologist, is in an hour and a half. Now I will be able to explain it better to the doctor.
Hi Diane, thanks for watching and commenting. Glad to be of service. I believe they use harmonicas in some hospitals to help with lung problems. Good luck to you and keep in touch. Cheers. Liam
I picked up my kids and always thought of them as kind of a novelty. Although I'm a blues lover I never considered even attempting the harmonica and I'm actually pretty surprised because I'm so cheap. I started drawing because it was one of the cheapest hobbies. Also it can be taken anywhere = practice anywhere
Feel the music!! As a guitar player i just started yesterday and learned a song in a day. Just like you feel the string bend and hammering you’ll learn it quicker

I just bought my first harmonica, a Special 20 in D, a week ago. I have 25 years of experience playing blues guitar, so this was a bucket list thing for me. I bought a harmonica like three years ago Because I thought it would be so fun to just have an instrument that's portable (I play piano and I can't exactly carry that around) and be able to just whip out my harmonica and play some tunes whenever I felt like
I bought my first harmonica 3 years ago... and I am still beginner :P It's mostly because I have bounced off at first and thrown it deep into drawer. But recently I found your channel and started playing again. You have great materials here, great job.
Thank you so much, I'm glad you find my videos useful. We're all beginners in some way - there's always something more to learn. Keep at it and let me know how you're getting on. Cheers, Liam
I have always liked the harmonica. This year I told myself I was going to start trying to learn how to play one, I have been practicing for 4 months and I still have issues with hitting signal notes lol . I was joking the other day with my wife telling her I think it was broken lol

LearnTheHarmonica.com Thank you very much for consodering my suggestion, that kind of Video would surely help a lot of us beginners tremendously, I myself am mostly interested in Country, Folk and Blues Music on the Harp because i think if fits its sound the best, but really you can Play anything and it will Sound Great thats why i Love the Harmonica Thank you
Hi Liam, I've been learning harmonica using your videos and I think that you are great teacher. I'm intermediate player, but I found this video interesting and useful. Keep working on harmonica and keep sharing your work! I'd like to see lesson on The Wizard by Black Sabbath. Greetings from Croatia! :)
Sorry for the abrupt question, is it true that the least shrill note has to be on the left of the harmonica, & that harmonica has to be held in your left thumb and index finger..!?
Most people hold the harmonica with their left hand with the low notes on the left, as you described. That said, I know know people who hold it differently, and I suppose I can't argue with them if it works for them.
Hi Gana Bhai, I didn't know what you meant by 'sa re ga ma pa' so I Googled it and I can see that you mean the classical Indian musical scale. Unfortunately, the harmonicas I play (diatonic) are based around a different scale - the major diatonic scale, which is the most basic scale in Western music. I have a beginner lesson teaching you the scale here: ua-cam.com/video/u8S166FhvVQ/v-deo.html. Good luck! Liam
Good harmonicas are oout of my price range, so I bought a set of 7 Fenders for $35. They sound awful, *except* I learned that when I draw and blow lightly, the reeds don't make a racket. So, there is an advantage to having even cheap gear, for (mine at least) requires, demands, the type of breathing you describe.
Hi Donald Miller, thanks for watching and commenting. I'm glad you're working on your breathing technique as it's such an important thing for a harmonica player. Good luck to you and let me know how you're getting on as you progress. Are you learning any songs? Cheers. Liam
Hi Sean, I would like to do a series based on the bare minimum theory you need to know to get by - hopefully I can work something out for the future :)
Hi, sorry but I am only uploading videos for diatonic harmonica at the moment. Perhaps I will do tremolo in the future. I can hardly play one though :P Cheers, Liam
I saw in a video there are 2 ways to position the harmonica to your mouth to play. 1 usual way and the other with it inside your lips. How do you know which suits you best?
Hi lottieislivid, there are actually at least three ways of getting single notes on harmonica. This is the easiest way for most people: ua-cam.com/video/YkEfzb-3pIM/v-deo.html. If that doesn't work, try ua-cam.com/video/CULKRfgRBXs/v-deo.html. Finally try: ua-cam.com/video/_caU5yFJVmo/v-deo.html. I hope these videos help you! Cheers. Liam
Love your videos. I'd love to take up the harmonica and start to learn. What age were when you started playing first? And do you do one on one video lesson's?

Sorry for the abrupt question, is it true that the least shrill note has to be on the left of the harmonica, & that harmonica has to be held in your left thumb and index finger..!?
Most people hold the harmonica with their left hand with the low notes on the left, as you described. That said, I know know people who hold it differently, and I suppose I can't argue with them if it works for them.
This is great 👍 good job 👍
Thank you! 😄
Hi is this series for beginner. Can you tell me how we start like sa re ga ma pa,, 7 sur of music
Bhai tune aabhi khareeda kya harmonica..
@@adityamaltare6578 haa bhai ,plz help kr na aata hai to bata na
@@ganesh5041 bhai mene bhi aaj hi liya harmonica😊... Konse youtuber se sekhega bhai me bhi sekhunga bta dena... Is per hi
Good luck! Liam
@@Learntheharmonica thanks sir ,not only indian classic , you can teach me hollywood songs, in your style sir love you god bless you I will follow you

Welcome, thanks for subbing! Cheers. Liam
It's been my lifelong dream to play the harmonica
Welcome to the world of harmonica!
@@Learntheharmonica Thank you kind sir! I actually wanna know how to play my favorite songs
Cheers. Liam
Thank you for you videos. I would like to know where I can get a beginner's online Tremolo 21 hole lessons.
Hi Estellamed, it's worth looking at Kerin Gedge's channel, he does some simple tremolo songs :) Good luck! Cheers. Liam
Well done - Thank you!
You're welcome, thanks for watching. Cheers! Liam
Great video!
Is a diatonic Hohner Big River Harp in C a good instrument to start learning to play the harmonica?
Yep, a Big River will serve you well. I played a lot of them when I was starting out. I use a lot of Special 20s these days. Cheers, Liam
Just purchased my first Harmonica too. A Hohner Blues Viper - will it do to start with or have I gone terribly wrong?
Hi Mukundan Alexander, I have never played a Blues Viper but it might be OK to start with. I recommend the Hohner Special 20. Cheers. Liam
Do you think you could do a video on basic music theory to help with step 2?
Hi Sean, I would like to do a series based on the bare minimum theory you need to know to get by - hopefully I can work something out for the future :)
@@Learntheharmonica that would be great. Thanks for the reply!
Regards from Nitin ,India
Love from Mizoram
Can you please upload a video or how to,play a music with the tremolo harmonica please
Hi, sorry but I am only uploading videos for diatonic harmonica at the moment. Perhaps I will do tremolo in the future. I can hardly play one though :P Cheers, Liam
I have the exact same hermonica 😮
Hi Stephen, I started at around 18. I do Skype lessons - I'm pretty busy but drop me an email to contact@learntheharmonica.com and I'll see what I can do. Cheers. Liam
