Met a man with a harmonica..who taught him to play. Dad was good! And he always kept his music with him. Lived an Amazing life later on. When he played Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing at the end I immediately startet to cry, although I just listened to this video at the side while I was packing my backpack. It just hit me. Great man.
After more than 60 years playing guitar (and in bars like Buddy described) my fingers just won't work anymore. My daughter (a very talented musician) said why don't you try the harmonica? I did, about 3 weeks ago, and I love it. I just played Buddy's Carnagie Hall performance and said "I want that". Ok I know that's not real but I've been working on this damn thing for a few week and I think I have another career out there, if I live another 30 or forty years.

He's like the guys in the 1980's playing video games on a computer who have maxed out the capacity of the Commodore 64 or Apple 2E...with a 1541 5.25" floppy disk and a joy stick...and the computer is going bonkers...not knowing how to challenge the player any further!!😊😊😊😊

I play the harmonica, and to be honest, i think I'm pretty good, I do practice, and mainly I play by ear.. Now i have a problem. When i hear professionals play, many of them play all the time with a growl. Do you know what I mean by a growl? And some songs shouldn't be played this way. Now it depends on the song and the style in which it's played. For example: Amazing Grace. Now this song can be played in different ways., In a bluesy style and straight. But let's say you're playing a song like: You are My Sunshine: Now no matter how it's played, I feel it sounds much better without the growl.. Does any oneunderstand what I mean? And if you do, do you agree?
I couldn’t work out how some harps sounded so cool in a blues sound worked out they we’re playing through a amplifier with a distortion pedal well that changed things try that one
LOVE the harmonica. And I love when someone shows off their skills and what the instrument is capable of, which is what Buddy is showcasing here. But I know what you're saying. When the song becomes more about 'look what I can do' instead of about the message of the song, it grates on my nerves. More about skills than praising God. Some singers are like this.

@@KGPetrea I know, Greene is such a master but also a scholar and carries tremendous oral history for this instrument. I'm a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter but started off as a Blues harmonica player going on to Blue Grass, Rock, Funk, Latin and Reggae. I still blow harp but never managed to achieve the kind chops of a Buddy Greene. I've listened to him so many times over the years yet he always blows me away, captivates my mind and steals the heart. He's a Giant and beautiful soul. Go well.

Mr. Greene’s main harmonica is a hohner “golden melody”. Usually favors the key of C, but his little suitcase has every key harmonica and then some 😊
