I completed this upgrade on my factory intercooled TD42 recently. The new HPD intercooler brought my EGT's down significantly. Even though I had a dyno tune done with the original intercooler giving me great numbers there was a noticeable difference with the new intercooler installed. I believe it was definitely worth the money. Thanks for another great video Tim!
G'day mate, Thats great results you have gained from installing a larger intercooler. They do make a difference with keeping EGT's under control. Thanks for your reply mate. Cheers Tim.
G'day Kev, Thats cool mate and thanks for watching the video. I'll have a new travel video up next week. I hope is well for you in Thailand. Cheers Tim.
I went full BEAST MODE with my zd30 and had the whole DTA package done a few months ago. Exhaust, catch can, intercooler, turbo and tune ECT... Runs really well and alot faster plus the bonnet scoop looks amazing.
Hi ZD LYFE, I've just seen your comments. Can I ask how you are with the mods now its about a year since you did them? I am considering doing the same to my ZD30.
@@robbutcher9503 yeah all good. I've only done around 10,000kms since though. I'm also running 35" tyres so the performance isn't as good as if I was runing 33s but I'm happy with it. Looking back I should have put the money towards an engine conversion to a td42 though.
I never knew those charge temps were so high in the original intercooler fitment, just imagine the charge temp fully loaded in the NT or somewhere hot !
Just curious how the new mounting frame goes for that big intercooler....I have looked at the big HPD unit, the frame looks very close to the positive battery terminal....that is why I have been considering just the smaller HPD unit, as it is quite a bit thicker than the factory unit, and it has the fan...and there are no modifications required to the bonnet. Think there is a new scoop also with a bigger opening....
G'day Neil, Im not sure mate what this guy paid for this intercooler upgrade. If you can call Matt at DTA, mention this video and he will look after you mate. Cheers Tim.
Is there a reason you did not go for a front mounted intercooler instead? The cool air from the front is going to do a better job than the hot air from the engine bay?
G'day Andrew, Front mounted intercoolers are more efficient than a top mount. But its getting all the plumbing out the front to connect up a front mount is where a lot of cost would come in. Thanks mate for your feedback. Cheers Tim.
We’re the temperatures taken whilst driving or lifting the bonnet in the workshop with the flir camera, or was there temps taken via gauges on the inputs and outputs whilst driving? Because if not the bigger intercooler was only acting as a bigger static heat sink.
G'day Chris, Both temps on the standard intercooler and the bigger one were taken after it was driven for about 10-15ks at about 80 per hour. Hope that helps mate. Cheers Tim.
@@timbates4wdadventures g’day Tim, would have thought a more accurate measurement would have been with temp senses on the inputs and out puts whilst under load whilst the vehicle was being driven. Enjoying your content. Cheers chris

All this is because of engine tune. If you don't need to tune your engine, you don't need bigger intercooler. Engineers in Nissan are not stupid. Ask yourself if you need to tune your engine. 9 out of 10, you won't need to. Use money on holiday going around Oz, instead of the new intercooler.
@@radod6147 The factory intercooler is junk even on an unmodified engine, they get hot and pull power out. An Intercooler upgrade is a great upgrade even on a stock vehicle, especially if you are towing.
