--------------- **Edit: I completely forgot to mention that the plastic cover under the car needs to be removed in order to gain access to the radiator drain plug. This is removed by taking out the phillips screws on the cover and then lowering it down to the ground.**
Hey guys another short video here showing you how to replace the upper radiator hose on any 1997-2003 BMW 540i model with the M62/M62TU engine. This model is a 2001 model so it has a water cooled alternator. I believe the earlier models (1997-1998) did not have the water cooled alternator and the hose will not have that smaller additional hose coming off of the bottom of the larger hose. Also to note is the (1997-1998) models may have normal hose clamps instead of the quick disconnects found on the 1999-2003 models. The procedure is still the same though. I hope this video will be helpful to you guys! As always please ask any questions you may have and ** DON'T FORGET TO HIT THE SUBSCRIBE BUTTON** thanks for watching!

Very good, clear video. Thanks. In the video you mentioned doing one on bleeding the cooling system on the E39 M62 but I'm not sure if you have posted it. There are a variety of approaches out there including variations on bleeding hot & cold, running or not. I imagine that, if you are able to post a video showing how you did it, it would be very helpful because your clear presentation style is easier to follow than anything I've seen presented on these engines so far. Thanks again.

Dan's Channel Hello Dan! Thanks so much for the kind words! I am glad that this video was helpful to you. Unfortunately I have not made a video showing how to bleed the system in e39 cars yet. I have a few other videos that I have made already but just haven't uploaded them yet. I will definitely get that video uploaded for you this week! Thanks again and have a good day!

Omg, I was going crazy, I spent so long trying to shove the tube on, and the one end just would not fit! After watching this and I saw you pull some ring off the radiator part, right away I knew I was stupid, and never removed that.

Great video. Straight to the point. Great explanation and instructions. Mine just broke at the same point as yours. I was thinking about replacing just the broken part of the hose and secure the whole thing with a regular zip clamp. I'm realizing now that it is better to replace the whole hose set.

I have certainly “fixed” these that way before, but probably best to use get the entire hose replaced.

Very good video. I have a 2000 BMW 540i which is experiencing a leak. Just noticed that the leak is coming from somewhere close to that same hose on the upper right when facing the engine. What's your thought. I am hoping that I won't have to replace the radiator.

CHURCH E. Johnson honestly it’s very hard for me to diagnose a leak without seeing the car. You will just have to inspect the leak closely

Hey Mark I don't know if you ever posted it bu that video would be very helpful. My upper radiator hose just severed and I need to replace it. Any information on where you ordered yours from? I have to part number already.

PyroWolfx117 Hey i am sorry I do not have a part number handy at the moment. I actually ordered mine locally from the parts store here in town. However if you do need the O.E.M. Part number for that hose here it is.
If you own a 1999-2003 540i the number is:
      11-53-7-505-228-BOE
If you own a 1997-1998 540i the number is:
      11-53-1-745-595-BOE
I hope this helps you out. Have a good day!

PyroWolfx117 If you want to buy online I normally order from Pelicanparts or RMEuropean these places offer Fairly priced O.E. parts.

marcus smith hey thanks Marcus when trying to get these hoses off how much pressure should be applied I am trying to get mine off right now. They do not seem to want to come off without a lot of pressure I know it is attached to the radiator

PyroWolfx117 if yours is the quick disconnect hose (99-03) they can be a pain to remove. The piece attached to the water pump gave me the most trouble trying to remove. There really is no set amount of pressure that needs to be applied in order to remove the hose. Pretty much pull on it until it comes off. If you still can't get the hose off try using a large flathead screwdriver to use as a lever to help pry the hose off of the radiator and/or water pump. Just try and be careful not to go crazy on these connections as it really shouldn't come to the point of banging and using 100% of your strength to get it off.

Wow, someone actually has the blue radiator drain plug like me. How do you remove it and install it? What tool do you use? I can't get it with my fingers. And how do you put it back? How far do you have to push it in? At what point do you turn it? Again, I can't get it back on with my fingers. I have a brand new one because I cracked the old one.

tomknack You push it back in and turn it the quarter turn to the right.

Helping Hand Auto Repair Thanks for the reply. Is there a tool to use to push and twist it with? I can't get the new one to go all the way in, and I couldn't get the old one out with just my fingers.

tomknack you can use a pair of pliers. If you look on the drain plug there should be notches that you need to line up with notches inside the radiator. You will just have to look at it and align the plug as you push it in.
