This hose can degrade when you have a leaking power steering reservoir. Keep that in mind if you notice the power steering reservoir leaking. In that case fix the power steering reservoir leak before you change this hose.

power steering reservoir leak can also cause alternator failure...twice, hahaha. ;)

    Awesome video!
did you end up draining the whole system? or did you only drain it from the small drain bolt underneath the radiator expansion tank?

Did you end up posting the front end replacement video? I would very much like to see it.

can you do one where you show where the upper part of the hose connects by the engine. having trouble finding it on mine. hoping it's easy. mine starting leaking right at the ring like yours did.

Would the lower radiator hose be the culprit if there's a coolant leak after the engine warms up? It's definitely not the radiator itself, more near the engine than radiator.

There's two pipes as well underneath the intake that fall apart; probably your culprit.

reconnection is a challenge, and with grease, and soap, and swearing still could not get it done in 3 hours! perhaps an offbrand replacement of radiator but the hose rubs the wheelwell and will not advance.. must be a tool that pulls them together maybe like a gear puller?

My hose didn't slip off- it was on so tight that I had to cut it off and pull the radiator. Even then, I almost damaged my radiator trying to remove it. I bought the entire coolant hose set and I'm struggling to remove another one. I'm afraid that I'll break the plastic connector. I've searched online for a good method to no avail. This is a total nightmare.

I'm honestly so confused. This hose looks like the hose that connects to the side of the expansion tank. Are they the same hoses?? Because I've purchased this exact same hose before but never replaced this hose.

it's called "Coolant recovery Tank Hose", but the major retailers don't list it that way, you have to search for "radiator hose" and find the one that looks right... I'm currently searching for a video that shows how in the heck you get that top connector loose, and this video certainly didn't show it; You can't reach it, or at least I can't, and I have small hands. back to the search.

Have you ever replaced the air intake for the alternator that you removed around the 5:30 mark? Mine is tearing and I can’t seem to find anything on it

I think there is a small o-ring in the end of those hoses. If it falls out while your working it will leak. I have had that happen before. Also, make sure the hose is all the way on and the locks are in place. Good luck. Tanks for watching.

i changed out the lower hose too, but the hose is now leaking from the connection, so whats next? i have had my 325i parked now for close to 2 years, because of this fear of my engine gasket glowing up, so i decided not to mess with this till i fix this problem correctly. i changed out the reservoir, all the hoses even the ones under the intake, and still have this leak, i am giving up on this and have tried many times with even the old one, all i was wanting to do was i had a leak and the car started overheating so i changed out the entire coolant system, i hope i can get some help for this, thank you!!

Were you able to replace the lower hose by draining just the overflow? Or did you have to unscrew both drains?

Thanks for the video. My 02 325i had a leak on this hose. I just removed it - a lot harder that what I was hoping for. The hose connector where the top of this hose connects seems to have some play side to side. Not much. Anyone know if I should be concerned with a little play? Does anyone know how hard it is to get to that water hose connector?

Yeah I eyed balled the leak and didn’t take out the air filter so I didn’t know the leak was coming from the bottom holes .

The only thing is disagree with is leave those springs down so you get an audible click when you put the new one on. So you know it’s seated.

hi im having difficulty inserting the lower radiator hose back to the radiator outlet ive clean the o ring then spray with silicone spray but still it cant sit in properly im thinking if the o ring or those notches blocks when i pushing it through i give it a slight gorilla force just to push it but im cautious that i might break the radiator outlet. i really dont know what trick should i do to connect it properly please help me. thank you very much.
i clean opening of the lower hose multiple times tried wd40,silicone spray, pour hot water thinking the gasket might flat a little bit? but i cant push it all the way i even use coolant and oil on the opening of the hose just to slip it in the radiator input but no luck tried pushing aligning with the notches keep trying i even use sand paper on the surface of the radiator input still cant go all the way. btw i used my old radiator hose didnt got a new one.

    • @DrShankopotamus
      @DrShankopotamus  5 років тому

Not sure without pics...but...make sure you actually have proper hose for your BMW, make sure slots are aligned (they only go one way), and (I have done this one before) make sure the metal locking wire is pulled all the way back on both sides. Another thought...if your prior hose was very old the old o-ring may still be stuck on the outlet. Good luck. Hope this helps....
