Part 1, I replaced the Expansion Tank
Part 2, I installed a Lower Temperature Thermostat
Part 3, I upgraded to an Electric Cooling Fan
Part 5, I install a custom aux fan
This time I am replacing the factory radiator with a Behr OEM equivalent. With the other upgrades I have done, there is little need for an upgraded radiator especially with the lower temperature and pressures of my current set-up. Plus, unlike the Z, the only all-aluminum radiators for this car are super expensive, and the core is already very thick from the factory.
Replacing the radiator on this car is actually pretty easy, especially once you replace the clutch fan with an electric one. The radiator is only held in by a couple of bolts and gravity; the hardest part is fishing it out of the cramped engine bay. Now would be a good time to replace your hoses if they look rough. As easy as it is to remove, it is even easier to put back in. after that, just bleed the system, check for leaks, and enjoy your new reliability.

This is A video made like a Champ, awesome English speaking ability, very clear presentation and all I can do is to bow to you Sir, I too have 540i and I do all by myself and my car runs forever without one single problem
Thanks man! I appreciate it. Hope you keep it running for a very long time.
This "bow" in the radiator is what happens overtime with age, it happens also in e46 :)
So it's just the radiator breaking apart from the pressure?
350Z247 its due pressure from what People say, its common in Both e46/e39, mine 328i didnt have it, yet my 330ci is due for A change thanks to that.
I guess 11 years of 29 psi will do that to aluminum. Hopefully my cooling tweaks will help this radiator last longer. Thanks for the info!
Did you jack the car up to remove the splash sheild. I shall attempt a cooling overhaul in a few days! cheers
If I remember correctly, I use ramps. I suspect you could get it done with the car on the ground if you had to.
350Z247 thanks 🙏🏾
He never even thought of using the bleed screw to get the air out after replacing the radiator>
Yup, never once did I ever use the bleed screw...oh wait, yes, I did. *sigh
What we’re the o rings suppose to go on.???
They go in grooves on the main inlet and outlet barbs on the radiator. They seal against the plastic housing attached to the hoses from the engine.
350Z247 great answer but I need a photo of how it looks when on the radiator. Might be asking for much but you were the best Chanel for information
@@nerd9986 I sold the car earlier this year. You should be able to compare to the old radiator. Plus, the groove they fit into should be pretty obvious.
I’ve tried placing them on those inlets but it won’t allow the hose to pull over and I don’t know if it was suppose to go over
@@nerd9986 the best I can tell you is compare what you have and what was there before.
