Hondata is just so simple and reliable... i learn how to tune on hondata and simply love it.. i wont change to something else unless i had no other choice, hondata still does everything i need it to do.
I don't know Mike... if an S300 can run an 8-sec AWD Civic... hard to justify the change. It's O.G., it's nostalgic, and it's made FOR our beloved Honda's (doesn't fit any other car).
The simple fact the ECU are 30 years old is enough reason to change. Can't tell you how many stock ECUs are trash just from age. For every 1 good ECU I've seen like 30 bad ones. Plus you need a trusted soldering installer, and harness installer .. it's a good system like he said. But once you get a GREAT standalone in your car you'll never want to go back. More power, more reliable more tuneability, more inputs and outputs, easy to go straight to COP. Big, traction control, CANBUS capabilities, self learning... So many ecu out there are well above the capabilities of hondata at the same price now.
The biggest barrier by far for FuelTech on this platform is going to be the complexity and expense of wiring and sensors. It doesn't stop at just the ECU, you're going to have to find someone to modify FuelTechs universal harness or pay for a custom one, switch to T1 cam trigger if you haven't already as well as switching to coils, either FuelTechs or Smart. This is a really big issue if you already have a custom Rywire/WireWorx or other custom harness that now has to be scrapped or adapted to the FuelTech unit. As of right now Haltech and AEM still have much more accessible standalones, mostly because they're plug and plug.
Also If u are a street car and need to pass an obd2 inspection in your state to get ur car tagged u can't because they won't be able to plug into ur OBD2 port for their computer to read and pass the emissions test, depending on the year of ur vehicle. Some people like their street rippers. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@@JeffreyGunner Where I live you have the option of plugging into OBD2 port or a weird ignition wire clamp. The reason is for smogging pre OBD2(96) cars and also for when the OBD2 port is problematic to read. I get issues with the OBD2 port and have to constantly use electronic cleaning spray in the port.

My only issue with FuelTech and other stand alone systems, is for us street car guys that don't have full blown, trailered race cars and live in states that require reading from the obd2 port for vehicle inspections, the standalone systems can never "fool" the inspection systems, nor send data via the obd2 port. Where I live (in NY), I have to run kpro to keep the car legal.
Last year I had my Tax check and was ready to go from Kpro 4 to Fueltech ft450. I researched for weeks and came to the conclusion there was NOT enough support for Honda’s at the time. Support for doing the wiring and support for the initial setup etc. then you get into the trigger wheel and all that. I ABSOLUTELY loved the all in one dash/ecu. But the complexities and wiring etc seem quite DAUNTING. I’m quite savvy with doing wiring too and it STILL seemed like a gamble. You spend ALL that money and do ALL that wiring work you want it to ACTUALLY RUN afterwards. Fuel tech didn’t seem 100 percent full proof.
This is a nice standalone. Most important thing talk to your tuner before you buy this cause they will be the one tuning your car to get the best results
For a classic OBD1 Honda Civic you can still turbo it and get hondata for 500, and you said that the entry level $1,000 kit from fuel tech "might not have enough inputs" for a turbo setup, even though you said that the entry level price was comparable between the two. I love fuel tech they are awesome but it is also nice to have the screen available separately also if you are trying to save money so having it always included and costing hundreds more dollars doesn't seem like such an advantage to me as it is being advertised.
its the ECU thats the problem, look for a Vtec p28 on ebay... its like $200 bucks. the s300 unit is $495. if you want coil on plug kit.. 400 bucks. Traction control on hondata 600 Bucks. PLUS the cost of chipping a hondata... if you dont know how to do it... like I said... hondata is a good unit... just outdated.

I scored a P28 from a wrecking yard out of a auto Ex, haven't confirmed it works but I was planning on going OBD1 s300. I want to get into tuning, like the idea of running a laptop in the passenger seat. I think I can pull it off with a $400 Hondata and $200 laptop.
I have a 91 CRX SI with DOHC ZC and OBD0 to OBD1 conversion harness. I got a $100 P28 that I damaged trying to solder in a Demon II chip(Hondata competitor). Bought another P28 for $250 and realized my wideband was not wired properly to the ECU. I paid $270 for a Hako solder pump because my main screw up was desoldering. All in all I spend over $1k. I would have rather worked on wiring than ECU boards.
Now all you need to do is put your money where your mouth is, prove to us and show us that this is better then Hondata and I'll be convinced. I look forward to the proving video. Greta video also..👍🏽
Awesome video brother I'm sold... Got my consideration to sell my s300v3 now.. I run a b16a swapped and boosted civic ef sedan 88-89...90-91 dash spots are slightly different.... I'll be after this possibly this year if I can sell off enough of my stuff... looking to make my civic better as the usual for us all THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION
You don’t need a “hi tech” ECU, there is majority preference for hondata because it just work well, realible and OEM. Reasons to swap for fuel tech are meaning less, I got my hondata with AIM logger and works like a clock
Fueltech is good but for street cars Hondata is best. Fueltech is more for vehicles over 700hp but even tho I'm running my 08 Civic SI k24A boosted 788hp with Hondata flashpro
I feel like price to price hondata is still cheaper well at least compared to the s300 v3 and most tuners can tune on this platform more comfortably because of the experience this platform is just too new right now to compare and kinda sound complex with all the wiring where as hondata is pretty much plug and play if you have obd1 you you plug your ecu in like normal if you obd2a/b you get a jumper harness pretty straight forward I would have to see how it compared but considering the price difference information and and the reliability I think ima stay with hondata for till I see some information on this
Huh? You do not have to replace your factory cluster. You can have the fueltech display off to the side somewhere or in your glovebox, using it as only a engine performance controller
I love my Hondas. They will only ever be clean street cars, and for that. Hondata is good enough for me. Not everyone wants to pay over a g for tuning. Even Moates demon is good enough for most people.
S300 & Kpro maintain the ODB 2 systems. For some with cars that are still on the road, that is very important. Not everyone wants to gut all the wiring and install a led screen in the dash. ECU replacement is very stealthy. Will the Fueltech work on all engines with out upgraded cam gears and still retain ODB ?
it will not.... off road use only..... BUT something to think about... California just passed a law that if you showed up with 'tuned ECU" .. reflash... you will not be able to register your vehicle... it will only be a matter of time when other states will outlaw... modified OEM ECU's and reflash.
This is an awesome video man! Great job and keep doing what your doing hopefully in the near future I'll be able to hit you up for some engine management goodies.
Ill run s300 any day of the week, but i think Fueltech is BIG bucks, BIG racing. I cant justify spending the 1500+ for the overhaul on a $2000 car when i can find a used hondata for like 300-400 local
I agree 100% at this point i would rather put money toward a k swap and just run a k-pro. Obd1 hondas chipped ecu is the way to go. You could literaly just use crome or hts and a cheap burner and tune your own car for like 25$ lmao. A factory ecu has great throttle response and plug and play its hard to beat.
What I learned as an IT person is that hardware is always cheap. It is software and support that is expensive. How many tuners know how to use the software?
Quick Q&A I'm in the process in doing a k series NA build, haven't picked up a ECU as of yet. My Q is with this item all I would need is the factory ECU without going with Kpro? Have a 06 TSX with Type R Gear box 6speed. Thanks again for all your post.
You cnt just say sell your hondata ecu or piggyback if the best tuner you know is use to tuning on hondata at the end of the day you get the programmable ecu or tuning solutions based on what your tuner prefers Hondata is known to run 8s so at the end of the day hondata is evolving and like flashpro they have basemaps specifically for the 8th gen 9th gen 10th gen si whether you want to go turbo nitrous sc or allmotor...you use what your tuner is more comfortable using
$1,000 ? How much money for connect the harness to the oem car harness . Hondata has very good numbers on drag cars and for street cars daily drive is fantastic .
Serious question, what about someone who buys a new platform like the ‘22 Civic Si and they just want a flash tune. Hondata already has a $700 “plug and play” solution. Is there a FuelTech alternative catered to the layman/non-mechanic?
the difference is flashpro is to flash the stock ecu. Hondata has to follow the stock ECU's logic. Why you cannot run a BOV in 10th and 11th gen civics unless you run motec. Fueltech is not ideal for these newer cars. Fueltech is a STANDALONE ecu, you can bypass so many features that hondata or ktuner cannot do. In other words, you can reach for the stars with standalones
I really want to buy a fueltech and wire it up, I have neptune RTP and somethings I wish I could dial in are not there. I paid $270 for a Hako solder pump because my main screw up was desoldering.
All in all I spend over $1k. I would have rather worked on wiring than ECU boards.
Preech brother they aren't supporting us no more 😔 all us 8th gen guys are sol !
Wish I have the money. I'd jump on this stuff already and start learning about tuning.
Now all you need to do is put your money where your mouth is, prove to us and show us that this is better then Hondata and I'll be convinced. I look forward to the proving video. Greta video also..👍🏽
im on it bro !
@@diymike good man, that's what I like to see. Can't wait..👍🏽
Awesome video brother
I'm sold...
Got my consideration to sell my s300v3 now.. I run a b16a swapped and boosted civic ef sedan
88-89...90-91 dash spots are slightly different.... I'll be after this possibly this year if I can sell off enough of my stuff... looking to make my civic better as the usual for us all
THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION
You don’t need a “hi tech” ECU, there is majority preference for hondata because it just work well, realible and OEM. Reasons to swap for fuel tech are meaning less, I got my hondata with AIM logger and works like a clock
Fueltech is good but for street cars Hondata is best. Fueltech is more for vehicles over 700hp but even tho I'm running my 08 Civic SI k24A boosted 788hp with Hondata flashpro
Thank you awesome information and very ture .
I feel like price to price hondata is still cheaper well at least compared to the s300 v3 and most tuners can tune on this platform more comfortably because of the experience this platform is just too new right now to compare and kinda sound complex with all the wiring where as hondata is pretty much plug and play if you have obd1 you you plug your ecu in like normal if you obd2a/b you get a jumper harness pretty straight forward I would have to see how it compared but considering the price difference information and and the reliability I think ima stay with hondata for till I see some information on this
the issue is that who ever uses obd2 and wants to stick with the stock dash they cant use the fueltech
Huh? You do not have to replace your factory cluster. You can have the fueltech display off to the side somewhere or in your glovebox, using it as only a engine performance controller
Hondata is good enough for my application
Should I use this for my EF si k20a2 swap?
What the diff price range from entry mid An baller packages for the fuel reck I only see the 450 entry level
Problem is always the cost with all these new engine management hardware.
I might have to try this ems on my next build 🔰💪🏽
Sold I'll buy one when I pick up another project
I love my Hondas. They will only ever be clean street cars, and for that. Hondata is good enough for me. Not everyone wants to pay over a g for tuning. Even Moates demon is good enough for most people.
This works for a kswap? As far i know k pros are the best for it
Would like to see these set up on new civics like the 8/9/10 Si’s and R…
What can I do for a J Series, I've heard that the ecu is locked so you can't tune. Piggybacks are like $1500.
I got a 99 Honda Accord 3.0L J30a1 btw.
I got something for you bro. J series has so much potential
How do you pass emissions with that?
Is there a OBD plug and will it show emission moduals passing
keen to see some fueltech wiring content and videos
U caught my attention…
Hondata is under 600 bucks so I’ll pass on paying 1k
What about us weird guys that want to keep our factory instrument cluster? lol
What I learned as an IT person is that hardware is always cheap. It is software and support that is expensive. How many tuners know how to use the software?
So what’s your going rate out the door just to wire up an OBD1 Honda/Acura NA setup?
we have that in the works, all our cars are getting wired up for fueltech
i know guys running 8s on hondata
What fuel tech system do you recommend for running nitrous and eventually a turbo as well?
When will the B-Series Patch/Jumper Harness be available for the FT450?
we are working on that, just need to test it on B series
Quick Q&A I'm in the process in doing a k series NA build, haven't picked up a ECU as of yet. My Q is with this item all I would need is the factory ECU without going with Kpro? Have a 06 TSX with Type R Gear box 6speed. Thanks again for all your post.
Anything for an Automatic B20 Build???
You cnt just say sell your hondata ecu or piggyback if the best tuner you know is use to tuning on hondata at the end of the day you get the programmable ecu or tuning solutions based on what your tuner prefers Hondata is known to run 8s so at the end of the day hondata is evolving and like flashpro they have basemaps specifically for the 8th gen 9th gen 10th gen si whether you want to go turbo nitrous sc or allmotor...you use what your tuner is more comfortable using
This is nice! Maybe on my new build I will go this route.
Would these units work on my Porsche 944 S2 or my Acura CL Type S 6MT?
I really want to buy a fueltech and wire it up, I have neptune RTP and somethings I wish I could dial in are not there. I have had good luck with doing DPFI wiring and OBD0 to OBD1 wiring, I see your comments below with showing initial setup and I will really be weighing if I should get this. Even for my stock d15b2 LOL. Also TunerView is off NeptuneRTP platform!!
How is this different from the FlashPro OBD II kit?
I'm running a ecu-master it's pretty good
would probably run that in my rsx if there’s a guide. Funny part is you can sell kpro for the same amount you bought it for lol.
Im about too drop my motor in the car… and funny how im looking at kpro an thinking like Geesh still gotta buy kpro an a Ecu….. blah blah blah. And here you are lol
I have no issues with My Hondata flashpro and I'm running 788hp
Can I keep my stock cluster/dash?
You know I noticed this not to long ago to buy the ecm buy all the other plug ins and add ons and this has literally cleared the air
FT has no baro connection. Driving up into the Rockies fuel drifted to almost 30% error
Can you use your stock gauge cluster with this unit?
Will that work on a 2jzge motor?
Would this work on honda d series engines?
How about some J series love? Specifically j35z1? Just want to boost! Nothing crazy! Need timing! Was gonna build speeduino but then I have coil in plug and lose sequencial fuel ugh! Help!
Haven't seen any fuel tech powered Fk8, is that something you guys will work in the future?
Does the FT ecu's not have a built in map sensor?
They do,a 100 psi one
I have a question does the fueltec 450 come with a harness and is it waterproof
Will this work for my 04 TSX ?
Can’t find this fueltech ft450 on eBay anymore. Is there another way to purchase this?
I’m based in Australia, have you done any support overseas?
