Growing up in a Christian home, I remember supporting George Bush but once the recession started to happen, and when I discovered how disastrous the war in Iraq had become, I realized that Conservative politicians used religion as bait and as a major distraction. So, the first vote that I ever casted was for Obama in 2008. I'm glad that I was able to realize this when I was younger. In general, we need to pay attention to what's going on around us. We must learn to stop being one issue voters. We also need to scrutinize our elected leaders more regardless of our political ideologies.
I applaud American democracy.

America is quick to criticise religious influence in law when it's in Muslim nations, but it's quick to let religion influence its own over the interests of health, safety, and security.

This guy the Rev. is blind. Trump fought for religious freedom in country, not to tell others how to worship. The Rev. gives the example of Jesus' Sermon on Mount to justify socialism which Biden is going eventually to bring. We in East Europe lived in this system for years, it's full of oppresion, there are 'equal, and "equaller" (or more equal if you know what I mean)', no freedom, oppresive law deciding about very individual aspects of your life. 40 years of socialism in Poland taught people how to steal as "what belongs to government belongs to nobody". Modern socialism in the E.U. does not stand for society, but for high taxes like 60% and more for average people (check the rates in Denmark). This rates are created to STOP development of individual or small companies and bring stagnation. On other side to create lots of NOT needed positions for ideologic socialists. This is what they want! They want to live and shine for your money, they hate family, they promote LGBT and abortion, pay feminist and green activists to start riots, they want to put God aside. You've never experienced this in the U.S. and I don't wish you to. Finally they fulfill the plans of Club of Rome - depopulisation. I know Trump isn't perfect, but He was only good choice for your country.

It's only used to control women, by forcing them to be dependent on whoever got them pregnant or their families and prevent them from accessing education or financial independence. I’m a Christian and I’m voting for Biden. I’ve decided to switch my vote for the first time as well. There is nothing that Trump can do or say that can change my mind. And like me, there are thousands and thousands of christians who will vote as democrats this November.

I was raised an evangelical and I have to say that I feel like more true words about the politicizing of religion and the mixing of church and state have never been spoken.
Being raised Southern Baptist, is my history. But, I woke up, eventually, and realized that the Church is so full of propaganda, which it happlily feeds its followers. Just another reason why I left Religion and think for myself now.
Yeah, stuff like this, Bethanie, is why I left religion and found a better life outside of the World of Voodoo-like thinking that it has embedded within it. Honestly, I was religious once and am now a non-believer after looking into Christianity's Roots and learning about the first century cult.
The cult-like thinking of fellow Christians, is what made me leave religion. To give you some perspective, I grew up in a religious home (probably like you), and I was a good Christian that was TRUE -- not a cultural Christian but real one. So, I left home, went to college, and spent spare time reading the Bible and learning more about religion -- by reading books about the time period of Jesus. And, over time, as I learned more, I began to question my faith. I began to see it more as a myth and having an antiquated belief system built around a Man-God, which was very prevalent in the 1st century of Judea. There were so many religious cults then that preached half-man and half-god leaders, and most of them had never even lived. Then, it dawned on me that Christianity was just another Bronze Age cult. And, I lost my faith, so I am a non-believer now. And, outside of it, looking in, you see how ridiculous following someone like Trump is. Unbelievable to me now. Thankfully, I'm wiser now and shed my faith. Best decision ever.
Some of the books & writings that woke me up were by Dr. Richard Carrier, Dr. Robert Price, Dr. Bart Ehrmann, etc. Those make you realize that Christianity is just another religion, made of myths from Bronze Age mankind -- who didn't even know what germs were. If Jesus was so great, why not tell us one thing about germs ... instead of talking horseshit about demons and casting them into pigs. Really ... true myths and fairy tales for grown people.

The governments should create laws to ensure religious freedom to all.
Just as political ideology should not attack or promote any one religion over another religious doctrine should have no place in politics. Any church or religious group that makes political statements against or for a politician or political party should lose any tax breaks they previously claimed as a religious organization because they have violated the right to claim it. It is dependent on the church and state being separate.
Start enforcing that law. Make a few of these super rich evangelical groups, that donate so much money to politics, to pay taxes and the rest will start keeping their religious views to themselves. That would not be religious persecution because it would apply to all religions. I mention the evangelicals only because I know they donate a tonne of money to push their views on the whole country.

Well, we do have laws that protect religious freedom. It’s in the first amendment. The only reason churches are tax exempt is because they’re not supposed to be involved in politics or preaching one candidate over another. But I agree that the evangelical mega churches are way too involved in preaching about trump, which should cause them to lose their tax exempt status.

What I never understood about evangelicals and politics is how they only talk about how their views on gay marriage and abortion leads them to vote republican while there are other evangelical issues to think about like immigration, support for the poor and minority groups and environmental issues that could justify voting democrat. I side with the latter as those issues outweigh what republicans care about that I agree with.
I am a non-denominational Christian, and I identify myself as an independent. But I vote as a registered Democrat because most Republicans lack the humanitarian policies that I believe the Bible teaches people to support. Pregnancy isn't some happy magical thing. Abstinence only or no sex education is dangerous, it only shoots up the unwanted pregnancy rates and increases the death rates of pregnant woman looking for a safe abortion. Teaching people how sex works, providing condoms and birth control drastically reduces the need for abortions in the first place. Shoving parenthood onto an unwilling couple makes it into a horrible situation for everyone involved, including the government and yes you, the tax payer. Pro-life'ers are not pro life, they're pro birth. As the same conservatives hate to fund welfare programs that help sustain those babies they so desperately wanted to be conceive. If it were possible, they should finish the pregnancy themselves. But since they can't, they should foot the medical bills, hospital visits, and cost of giving birth and rase the child because they valued it so much. But propose that and they refuse.

As an Ordained Minister myself this pastor just earned major Respect from me and VICE just leveled up.
Growing up in Easton Maryland , the birthplace of Frederick Douglass and the oldest Quaker Meeting House in the nation, 20 minutes from Cambridge the birth place of Harriet Tubman in one direction and 10 from St. Michael's, the Town That Fooled the British on the Revolutionary War I had American History everywhere. And what I learned from family who were conductors on the Underground who passed their stories down was the Quakers were very instrumental in freeing slaves. Nobody expected them to be the ones who got them to Dover Delaware and the Amish took them to Pennsylvania. The Lloyd's plantation Wye House still stands there today. Same family as Francis Scott Key's wife Mary. Read the 3rd Stanza of the Star Spangled Banner & you'll understand why Colin kneeled. Being that the Revolutionary War was fought right here we also learned a great deal about the fact that our Founding Fathers were Anarchists who had to had 1st hand experience of what it's like to live under a tyrannical King who believed in Divine Providence and how controlling it is to have Religion dictate your politics and therefore your life. Freedom of Religion doesn't only mean you are free to choose your Religion it means Freedom FROM Religion. That's the reason our Founding Fathers insisted on a Separation of Church and State.
When Connecticut tried to pull what we have today and put Religion in their politics they made themselves the laughing stock of the Colonies. In God we Trust wasn't on our money, our Pledge of Allegiance was written by a pastor and even he did not put Under God in it, he deliberately kept it out because knowledge of the horrors religion in politics can inflict was still fresh enough at the time that he said it didn't belong in there. It was 1 Nation, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.
What I see with Religion so deeply involved in our politics now frightens me BECAUSE I know history. And even in Biblical times there were ways to prevent pregnancy or to rid themselves of a babe they could not feed. The courts of England were do full of debauchery that yes even the royals knew who to send someone to fetch to deal with these issues.

My pastor at a non denominational black church never once made his sermons political. All he ever did was say we need to pray for the healing of our country and for our leadership. I find it so odd that pastors in the deep south have taken it upon themselves to make their sermons political and make their congregation feel the need to pick a side to feel like "real" Christians.
Hey Jazmine Im in the mid-south Tennessee, grew up in a predominately Black church(pentecostal). Ive had several different pastors, and not one has ever made their sermons political. So, many evangelicals believe that the third temple must be physically rebuilt before the return of Christ, and as ive grown, prayed, and contemplated over the years, I get an overwhelming sense that the "temple" in which the abomination of desolation will be set up in is not the physical temple, but rather the church itself. The NT seems quite explicit that the church is the body of Christ, the "Temple" being built not by human hands, but the Spirit of God. For example, 2 Thess 2:3-4, which states that he would exalt himself above every so-called god or object of worship "so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God." I dont know who or how Trump fully plays into what is to come, but I will say this: Trump is by no means a man of God, and at the very least seems to be a precursor to what someone like an Antichrist would do, a type or shadow of it, to say the least.

WOW.....an evangelical I can at least respect. I woke up at 50 years of age from many false religious and political views I had believed all my life. I am now 64 and my only regret is that I didn't wake up sooner in so many ways. I am so proud of this man for his courage and wish him the very best in his new enlightened journey. Namaste my new brother. Not necessarily for voting Democrat...but for seeing and honestly admitting the stripes of the people (and party) who worship at the alter of money and power. Democrats are far from perfect. And I have my frustrations with them. But you are soooo right about their values being much more in line with the sermon on the mount. True followers of Jesus can usually see that reality...evangelicals and some other american denominations cannot. They claim to worship Jesus...but do not follow his teachings.

I can respect a person that is willing to be honest with himself and with others, despite the personal cost they will suffer by doing so.
