    I just told my wife I want to make a portable paint booth in the garage I’m turning into the workshop… she asked “like a permanent one” and I said no like hospital curtained off rooms… enter UA-cam search and found this. Great job. Great ideas think alike I guess! Nice to meet you man!

    More great ideas. This would also work well for a photography setup. I could hang different canvases or materials and put the lights outside of the curtains to create super even lighting. It's also a really nice backdrop system! You're awesome! Thanks again for sharing the knowledge.

      Brian Prusa question: I’ve always wanted to try spray finishing but one thing has always puzzled me (& kept me from trying it). What do you do with the spray gun in between coats while they dry? Do you have to tear it down & completely clean between each coat?

    • @reforzar
      @reforzar 3 роки тому

      Doug C I only clean completely once done with project. I’ll keep filling and spraying for 2-5 days depending on what I’m spraying (usually lacquer or shellac). I’ve never cleaned during finishing a project.

      @@dougc78 Doug, I have the Rockler sprayer you see being used in this video. If you buy an extra container you see attached below the spray gun you can unscrew your paint cup, screw on the cap and take that extra cup you bought filled with soapy water screw that on and spray into a bucket . It cleans out the spray gun pretty dang well. With that said I can break down this spray gun and clean it faster than I can a paint roller.

    Open the track... With a circle you have to hang and remove the cloth, if you opened it on one side like a spiral you could run a line to the corner of the garage and leave the cloth attached and store it with a cord. Easy storage and shorter setup/take down time.

    Ikea makes a similar system that isnt as HD but would work for the tarp and is much cheaper its called VIDGA. 55" rail is like $7 corners are $4. I know because I was thinking of doing something similar but mine would be just one straight wall across so Im thinking I might modify some of those cheap roll up blinds and replace the blind with 5mil visqueen that way I can roll it up out of the way for storage.

    I didn't know this existed!!! Thanks for showing us this! Don't get me wrong... I like Rockler's stuff, I find it pricey... yes it's good... but pricey... However, in this case I have to admit I like this system because it goes beyond a single tasks of being a paint booth, the overhead cable and hose management, hangers for stuff like lights, and other things is a really good idea so it serves multiple purposes and helps out in the shop. I like that.

  • @williamjones9395
    @williamjones9395 3 роки тому +2

    Nice job! My only suggestion would be to get your exahaust system in place asap, as even though your tarps would contain the overspray, you could still be working in a cloud of paint, and the cloud would stay in the air and seep out around even the smallest openings around the tarps.
    Could contaminate the air in your shop and home, puts an extra burden on your respirator. Lungs are sensitive, and everything you inhale gets in the blood. Gets in through the skin too.
    Catches up to you in the long run. But good work👍
    Stay safe !!!

    Nice! The last time I sprayed a custom closet I had the plastic drapes taped to the rails of the garage door. As well as you, overspray was somewhat of an issue but I managed by having a fan sucking it out of the way. It didn't fix it but it was manageable enough to finish. I may have to look into this as well. Looks great!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

    Great video, Glen! If you had a bit more ceiling space, you could keep the tarps rolled up at the ceiling. The garage door would still close, thought it might help if you trimmed the extra tarp off the bottom.
    It would keep that part of the track clogged up, so you couldn't slide lights around from the middle track to the back near the garage door opener, but it would keep the tarps ready for very quick rollout.

    You can make a simple ventalation system yourself. In the hole wher you fell short with the tarp... Just make a tall rack with 3 or 4 box fans stacked one on top of the other and turn tham backwards so that the exhaust side faces in and use standard a/c filters in front to catch paint fumes. Wire them all together so that one switch will turn them all on.

  • @RyokuKitsune

    a bailing wire and bondo solution to over-spray is a box fan with an air filter attached to the back to recirculate the air in your spray booth. not perfect but it at least keeps the crap to a more manageable level. in your half booth setup you could get a small flexible duct kit and run it under the tarp to filter over-spray away from the work area onto some painters cloth to catch anything tacky that makes it through the filter.
    another idea you could do is something that someone in my neighborhood has. he made a custom panel that he can close his garage door onto with vents on the outside. I assume he has some sort of vacuum system to blow out fumes and dust. I only know it exists because he left it in place for a few days. shows that it wasn't permanent and didn't have to be broken down after a days work in the shop.

    Quick easy air cleaner...
    20 inch box fan...
    20 inch furnace filter...
    Just slap the filter on the back of the fan, blow the air away from you and your project. You can put several of them in your booth right behind your project as you are spraying and have them pulling the air away from you.

      I agree! It is the only way I do it. If the weather is right I just open the garage door about 15 inches & let the filtered fan pull the fumes & overspray right out. I put my project on a removable rotating top I made for a hydraulic table I got at Harbor Freight. This old girl can't be crawling around on that ladder every time! BUT if I was young & strong, I might put up a spray booth like his! Great video!
