    Gotta pack em in tight Ana!!! Hahaha!! We use a heater like that to thaw our well house when it gets too cold & freezes. Takes about 30 minutes ,and we have running water again. The infrared lamps we use to keep it warm the rest of the time. Also use the heat lamps in our outdoor dog & cat houses to keep them warm. I also use an infrared space heater in the greenhouse as a boost if I need a bit more than the wood stove. Thanks for sharing your greenhouse with us! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, out to Las Vegas, have a great evening Ana!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌💖🌵🌼🌴🌻🌳🌺🌲🥀🪴🌹🌱🏵😃👍

      @@CactusCaffeine yes its been quite a roller coaster with our weather! Friday we were at 71°. Then it started to plummet! Tornadoes came through the area. I'm pretty sure one came close to us cause of the loud roar for a couple of minutes, and the trees were looking like in a hurricane!!!! Very scary!!!😬😳😱 No damage. Just some tree branches. So all is good!!! Peace, Love, Plants,!!!✌💖🌵🌼🌴🌻🌳🌺🌲🥀🪴🌹🌱🏵😃👍

    Ciao Ana, nice video, interesting as always and plus I really like the direction, the script. 👍😀 I have 3 small greenhouses on the balcony, I heat them with very very small stoves that are regulated by a thermoregulator that turns them on when the inside temperature drops to 6 degrees Celsius and turns them off at 8 degrees. Obviously you can set it to the temperatures you prefer, without worrying about adjusting the timer or without worrying about the outside temperature. You set a minimum and a maximum intervention temperature and it does the job for you, without mistakes.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  3 роки тому

      That thermoregulator sounds so convenient! I’m curious about the stoves that you use. Do they have fire or just a heating element?

    Welcome back, Ana. Hope you had a nice break. Excellent video, its been pretty cold here recently again, the lowest temperature its got inside my greenhouse so far is -1c 🥶 Been checking the plants that I put inside the coldframe and they seem to be doing ok, had to cover it with fleece on a few nights though. Let’s hope winter passes quickly and we’re back into spring so we can see the gorgeous super blooms on your plants 😊 Thank you for sharing with us as always, have a wonderful day from Edith & myself 🌵☀️🌼🌺🌸🏜☕️

    50s... still warm temperatures. In Michigan 30d and lower is freezing! My cactus and other house plants are indoors..I have a plant room and it has the coolest temperatures in the winter season, so I have a space heater to keep my succulents and cacti warm. 🥰

    I'm a balcony gardener not too far from the coast in San Diego. This is my first winter with cacti! Most of my collection is under an overhang, so I'm hoping everyone is okay as-is! As long as I keep an eye out for mealie jerks....

      If you are in So. Cali, then you should be good. You seldom get freeze or snow. Just protect them from too much rain. Good luck! 👍🏼

    Great info, one idea i had was a wide range plug in thermostat instead of a timer so you can have consistent temps. I don't know if that would be going overboard though, cause it looks good like it is.

    Loved watching, as always. I heated my glasshouse last winter for the first time- it’s interesting seeing what others do and bubblewrap definitely makes a difference and I’m considering putting flooring down like you have. One thing I learned last year is that you can get digital switches to turn heaters on and off much more accurately. Happy Christmas to you and yours, and best wishes for 2022.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Those digital switches and plugs are so convenient. Now I know that there are also temperature controlled plugs. I’m always learning from all of you. The floor, yes. You need to insulate your floor too if you want to keep the heat longer inside your greenhouse. Good luck this winter! 😊

    • @GlasshouseandGarden
      @GlasshouseandGarden 3 роки тому

      @@CactusCaffeine Does insulating the floor make a big difference IYO? It will cost me about £200 to do it so it will need to save that much energy over a three to five year period to be worthwhile.

    I am very prepared. My husband purchased a Geeni OW102 Outdoor smart wifi pug. It is connected to my heater. I can turn it on via my cellphone. I check the weather and I can program for the heater to come on at certain times. There is a wifi unit that can register the temperature in the greenhouse. I can see the temperature in the greenhouse via a thermometer display in my house.

    I’m not 100% sure those “mealybugs” you saw on the first cactus we’re actually mealybugs. It looked a lot like lacewing eggs. The white dot if you looked carefully was on the end of a thread. Lacewing are really beneficial and would be a shame to kill them.

    In Las Vegas it only gets down to the low 30s occasionally right ? I don't think it gets down to freezing often...Is it still needed to put them in with a heater and in greenhouse ?

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  3 роки тому

      In previous years, we got down to as low as 27F. Yesterday, it was 23F in nearby cities/towns. Snow visits us, too although they rarely last for more than a few days at a time. Some cacti especially those that originate from Brazil and nearby S. American countries are not built to stand freeze. I'd rather be on the safe side. 😉

    How much does it cost for your electric heating? I have been using a thick polythene with fabric interwovedn in it that lets in sunshine. On any sunny winter day the greenhouse heats up to 109.4°F and the outside temperature is 55.4°F. On cloudy days it still warms up in the day. At night it gets low temperatures, but no frost. I have yet to test it on a snowy day. Thanks for sharing😌🤲💖I look forward to your next video🙌

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  3 роки тому

      Are you asking about its effect on our electric bill? I haven’t made any actual computation but I don’t really see any major increase in our utility as this is just a small appliance. The space heater itself cost around $20+ when I bought it a couple of years ago. Thanks for sharing to us your greenhouse set up.

    you think a san pedro will last in vegas this winter? its been cold not sure what to do.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  3 роки тому

      If it is mature, it should be ok but just cover the tips (like with a styrofoam cup) to prevent the delicate growing point from getting frost damage. But if your San Pedro is still young, covering it with a freeze blanket is advisable. 🙂 Brrr… we just had our first freeze last night!
