I agree that they did kinda let down Hulk and Thor in endgame but when you consider that they were trying to make a really hyped up conclusion to 20+ movies worth of storylines and character arcs and they somehow managed to pull it off and gave perfect endings to Tony and Steve’s arcs I think you gotta cut them some slack
@@sirkingjames4656 I don't think that's an excuse. The movie is very poorly written. Very lazy. I mean they literally use time travel to get out of a situation that only came about in Endgame. Captain Marvel is only in the film to be a deus ex machina at the beginning and end of the film. Thanos is reduced to a Saturday morning cartoon villain trying to destroy the world. It was honestly disappointing. Infinity War felt like the culmination of the previous films. Endgame felt like it was made by completely different people. It's kind of a mess.

Another problem is casting a character in the MCU is tough enough because of the multiple year deals and no recast, but let'ss be real... RDJ is not keeping the mask on. 90% sure of this. Doom should've been another actor. This choice was odd, shocking, and... pretty safe.
@@andytrevino4077 Fans like you are irreprensible. It’s always much easier to hire from the inside. Name 10 other actors that has the MCU experience and talent RDJ has to play Dr. Doom?
My biggest issue about the whole casting situation is the fact that people are talking more about how Spider-Man would react seeing Doctor Doom. It is so annoying to me because it shows that people don’t know anything about the character and the comics then start defending the casting by searching for evidence and posting a picture saying they were right. Doctor Doom barely takes off his mask and he literally has one of the biggest beefs in marvel history with Reed Richards yet people are still acting like there’s some kind of relationship between Spider-Man, Iron Man and Doctor Doom. It’s literally just the whole female Silver Surfer thing again. Comic fans were not happy to see a character that they loved for decades be changed and then people who have never touched or read a comic will just google search female Silver Surfer and be like “See, it happened in the comics” without even knowing the context or the character.
Thank you! I've waited YEARS for a good adaptation of Surfer on the big screen. Then I find out that they are maybe going to be doing a Shalla Bal one off instead?! And I'm a misogynist for wanting Norrin?! Disney already killed Star Wars for me. The destroyed Luke. I was really hoping to get the Norrin Surfer movie before they destroyed the MCU too, but that might not happen now. Oh well.
Ngl at least the gender thing could have little impact and present norrin in the main universe because F4 is gonna be set in another universe at first but this is just confirmed to be the main doom for one of the biggest events in marvel and almost garantees that it is gonna strip most of the original character anf turn it just into evil ironman. Also people presenting infamous iron man as evidence or a 1 time story as evidence of "it happens in the comics" is kinds bshit with SS too was a little to a no name story but things like shuri at least had more history in comics to justify the changes.
To be fair to them Reed Richards hasn't even had a main appearance in the main MCU universe, one single alternate universe Reed appeared in Multiverse of Madness to get killed off. Also people will obviously talk about the potential interactions with Spiderman because in the MCU Peter's mentor/father figure is Tony. Even though for most iterations Spiderman, Iron man and Doom don't that sort of bond.
@@Warlord-dc5un I am still salty about how Reed Richards died in that movie. He’s literally the smartest man Marvel comics so the fact that he decided to throw away his common sense was so Reedtarded (I’m sorry, I had to).
Agreed, the is certainly a high risk high reward play by Disney/Marvel to run with this decision and only time will tell how this gamble works out for them. I personally don’t like the idea.
All they needed to do to avoid this (deserved) backlash is just have RDJ play Superior Ironman leading an evil Avengers. But Doom? Victor "the goat" Von Doom? This just ain't it, hell it makes more sense for Iron Man to be the main villain since the MCU characters have an attachment to Tony while no one has any connection to Doom.
I would love an RDJ Superior Ironman working with Victor Von Doom and The Maker to destroy or rule the multiverse. Hell if Disney wants repurpose the Kang Dynasty idea have RDJ play all three kind of like what they wanted Jonathan Majors to do. Just don't show Dr. Doom or The Maker's face ever. Then like you said Superior Ironman can play with the Avengers emotions hell even hint that the three of them took out the Kang's off screen to explain away why there not around. Make it a joke that if Antman could take one down then of course the combined intellect of the three could take out the rest easily.

This is so wrong on so many levels. Dr. Doom is in discussion to be the greatest comic book villain of all time. Him being connected to Iron Man is disrespectful. And him being a fricking RDJ bait makes it even worse. Doctor Doom is a character with his own identity and mythos. There was no set up for Doom in previous movies. Dr. Doom is not a villain from multiverse. He is from 616. Him not being from main MCU continuity makes universe look less rich (like we were introduced to every significant character in infinity saga and everyone else is from alternate universe) and doesn't really make sense for Doom
@Vilgax00doom has a burnt face covered by a metal mask , you could look like anything and play him. We just need gravitas in the role. Ideally his skin would never be even shown
People will make dumb defenses that it happened in the comics. Doesn't mean he should play the role of Dr Doom. If they wanted a bad guy version of Tony Stark. I expect him as the Superior Iron Man.
The worst thing sbout this is that every non-comic reader pulled out some random, out-of-context comic panel that they googled bying typing "Doctor Doom Iron Man" to justify this decision. It's so frustrating.
Bruh they made “Spider-Man” into “Iron-Boy” and completely overshadowed Ben Parker’s role with both Tony Stark and Aunt May. I do not believe for one second that the “Reed Richards and Doom” dynamic will be intact especially when “Spider-Man” is such a big money maker. Full Circle: the MCU saved Sony when they were at their lowest now it’s the other way around.
Doctor Who just recently brought back both the most popular showrunner and Doctor in the show’s recent history, and it spectacularly backfired. The entertainment industry has warped considerably even in the past 5 years. I would've preferred if they just recast Kang really, let Doom have his own full Saga rather than half-ass it like they're trying to do it now.
My problem is Dr. Doom is literally Romani. …….the literal only way to fix that one would be to have the real Dr. Doom be played a Romani actor. Otherwise it’s literally yet another whitewashed Romani character like freaking Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.
And the thing was Jewish. I love they remind us moon knight was Jewish, but man Hollywood do love whitewashing characters. That ancient one bs is literally ra’s al ghul again
Stop saying "Romani." The entire term was forced into our language in 1978 without consideration for the general gypsy population on the eastern European nations most of them inhabit.
Hollywood is a clique. And only several ones are welcomed to it. That being said I am so glad Wesley Snipes played Blade again, even if he is already 60.
I have this suspicion this was a desperate move to replace Kang the Conquerer as the main villain for Secret Wars since Marvel dropped Jonathan Majors and they needed someone popular to really drum up enthusiasm for the MCU
0:06 only way in my opinion that they could make this work without it being just some kind of cash grab is having RDJ only be the voice of Dr Doom while in the mask and casting someone else to play the physical body and face of Doom outside of his mask like what they did with Tony Todd and Tobin Bell on the flash where they voiced zoom and savatar only when the suits were on
Did Marvel forgot how to recast? They could have recast Jonathan Majors and finished the phase with Kang. And than have Doom be main villain for entire phase.
This gotta be the most desperate movie I’ve ever seen marvel make. Maybe these movies will genuinely be good but everything marvel has put out since endgame has made me feel nothing. Even Deadpool and Wolverine was just a bland cameo fest. Seems like marvels time in the sun is coming to an end. Maybe DC will finally get their shit together
At this point Marvel thinks this dumb idea of bringing back their previous face of the franchise can fix all their problems, which it most likely won't. Why don't they actually sit down and work on improving the writing and structure of this universe?
"But it happened in comics" is kinda dumb argument to defend anything. Didnt Squirrle Girl defeat Thanos in comics? Didnt Thanos get arrested by normal ass cops in comics? Didnt he fly a helicopter in comics? Didnt Gwen Stacy have sex with Noman Osborn in comics? Should all these happen in MCU too?

Doctor Doom is my favourite Marvel villain and such a complex character with a fantastic rivalry with Reed Richards (pun intended). Though I LOVE RDJ, and hes a phenomenal actor I do worry if this casting will affect how they adapt Doom since his rivalry with Reed and Latverian/Romani heritage is a quintessential part of his character. Regardless, Im willing to give this a chance and Im excited to see Doctor Doom return to the big screen again. They could explore a good story about Tony being his worst enemy and the biggest threat to the multiverse; since the MCU started with RDJ, it feels rather poetic that it would end with him. I do think they can touch on good themes surrounding the power of our choices, as Doom could reflect the juxtaposition of Tony's entire character arc in the MCU since Tony learned humility and what it means to make sacrifices for others because of his experience in Afghanistan and friendship with the Avengers, Doom on the other started out with nothing as a Romani peasant and lost his whole family and had to learn to fend for himself mastering both science and magic and liberating the people of his country and becoming the ruler of Latveria for the better, thus creating this god-complex in Doom and establishing an underlying sense of resentment for others if they disagree with his perspective as shown with his immense pettiness against Reed Richards fueling their iconic rivalry, so there is room for them to explore the parallels between the two. I just feel very mixed about the casting since it feels like they're just hyping up these movies by bringing back RDJ. But like I said, I'm always happy to be proven wrong since RDJ will surely do a great job. Guess Harvey Dent was right: *"You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain"*
Marvel has proven over and over again that they don't care about their characters. Why would you butcher one of, if not the greatest, villain in fiction like this?
We don’t even get to know Doom before he’s featured in this big crossover Honestly this just seems like a backup plan because Kang fell through. Kang got to have build up albeit a poorly thought out one meanwhile we’re just getting Doom thrown at us. And what happens after Secret Wars. I’ll be damned if they kill him off before he’s in a Fantastic Four film
The last Marvel movies I've seen in the theater were Infinity War, Black Panther, and End Game. Every other movie I'll watch the day of release at home.
I would actually like to see an animated film or a movie where batman is just straight up a vampire. Would be pretty cool for the character considering he is a bat themed vigilante.
"BuT iT hApPeNeD iN tHe CoMiCs" Alright, lemme cast Alfred Molina as the next Spider-Man, then watch how many rabid fanboys will go "bUt SuPeRiOr SpIdEr-MaN"
“Doom is nobody’s second choice.” -dr doom to Namor In a side note I think classic doom was too iconic to be replaced, the infamous iron man literally reverted back to doom. So I wouldn’t be too worried about potential comic synergy.
If he is Doom he has to be Victor Von Doom! He has to be the gypsy boy! The one way they could make it work is if Tony Stark who was an adopted baby was switched by Kang as a baby with Victor Von Doom. This will mean Iron Man was the variance and the man that became Tony Stark was always Victor Von Doom! And he could continue to play the character effectively forever if he's going to be wearing an Iron mask. Or without it he's Disfigured! That way it's not an evil Tony Stark playing victim on Doom It was a good Victor Von Doom raised as Tony Stark! And this will mean Morgan Stark is really Morgan Doom! And the first man to create time travel in the meantime line was Victor Von Doom and the man to kill Thanos for the first time was Victor Von Doom! Only problem is I don't think Disney's that bright so we are screwed.
4:39 Facts!!! imagine Superior Iron Man saying or doing something screwed up up bonus points if it's has anything to do with with MCU Spider-Man and then he says the iconic line "I'M NOT PLAYING GOD. ALL THIS TIME... I'VE BEEN PLAYING HUMAN." I guarantee you everybody in that movie theater is popping the Hell off and it's going to be that iconic iconic moment in the movie like Iron Man himself saying I am Iron Man or are Thanos saying you should have gone for the head.
I don't get the hype at all to bring RDJ back and especially as not Iron Man just seems so forced at least if he was an alternate version of Tony 1872 his return would have worked better. Should have been an entirely different actor and with secret wars/multiverse gimmick bring Julian McMahon. Any of the following actors would have been better suited: 1. Eamon Farren 2. Graham McTavish 3. Viggo Mortensen 4. Jason Isaacs 5. Luke Evans 6. Cillian Murphy
I think the idea could work, if they lean into it too much though it'd suck. I don't need a scene where Tom Holland gives a corny line about Doom being Tony. Then again, for Peter this could be a good story on his new independence so I digress. What I want is a threatening Dr Doom, not a threatening Robert Downey Jr.
Let's just say storywise this is a huge misdirect and the REAL Doom shows up at some point. Who would play him? Are there any Romani actors out there that you think could pull this off?
They could have just recast Kang. They already established him as the main bad guy for this phase. And they already recasted a role before, they did this to Edward Norton and Terrence Howard.
I mean the actor Starr from the boys & banshee seems like he could play a good Norman Osborne/Green Goblin in the MCU. But to me personally Disney don't know how to make those kinds of power moves.
The most ANNOYING part about this besides RDJ's casting is the fact that DOOM isn't getting his own film before hand. He isn't gonna have NEARLY as much time to develop as Thanos or hell even Kang. He needs his own film showing his origin and uprising/takeover of Latveria. It would also be the first time Marvel has given us a movie where the main character is a villain (Infinity War was the closest we got before that). What a WASTE of potential.
Probably he will be at the fantastic four movie like a side villian , but I agree with you, avengers doomsday should wait one more year to give more developement for his "final villian" role
I for sure won't see this in theaters. Haven't seen a Marvel movie in theaters since Endgame and Dr. Doom was the only thing that could get me to come back. But this is honestly a desperate, lazy, highly questionable hail mary to save their dying franchise.
There are many others that could play Dr Doom. Killian Murphy, Bryan Cranston or others. Dr Doom is a great villain. The crap what if comic with Dr Doom switching bodies isn't a good story. I'm sick of it to the "0h it happened in the comics." Just cause it happened in the comics doesn't mean it's good. Dr Doom should just be Dr Doom. The villain of the F4. He's a dictator of latvaria, he's a genius, a magician, scientific genius and in other stories a god. We do not need another alternate variant or body swapping. Bringing RDJ back as superior iron man or an evil iron man maybe. Not as Dr Doom.
Disney is so creatively bankrupt, lets go back to what worked, sort of. The way the multiverse is used nowadays is just a terrible excuse to bring back a dead character, with no story purpose just nostalgia bait.
This was a very lazy move and will most likely be their greatest mistake ever! From a brand perspective, even if they succeed, it will be detrimental to their company moving forward because it will make it that much harder for people to except any form of media that doesn’t have Robert Downey Jr. or Iron Man in it inevitably making it harder to make new creative content in the future. They really backed themselves into a corner with this one. I hate the entire idea 👎
I love RDJ but no I can't see him as Doom like I couldn't see The Rock as Black Adam. I do want to see Magneto, Doom, Apocalypse and more in the MCU but I need smart choices for them.
I can't believe they cheered 😡😡. RDJ is a great actor, but why did they cast him as Doom? They ruined one of my favourite characters 🤬. They should have made an "Origins" movie for Doom.
Here's what (probably) happened: the bigwigs at Disney had a meeting to figure out why the MCU cash cow has been running dry the past few years. Somebody said, "It all went the sh*t after Endgame." So, what happened it that movie? RDJ's character got killed off. No RDJ in the MCU, the MCU doesn't make 💲. ☹️🤔🤑 And here we are.
I want RDJ to play it absolutely like Doom, like I want to leave the theater and go, "Holy shit was that even the same actor?" I want him to absolutely REDEFINE the way they make MCU movies moving forward.
Something I found cringy on facebook was a popular comment with a lot of people agreeing of Julian McMahon nailed the role of Doctor Doom and it was a perfect character. It really shows how much the general audience lacks of the character.
It's crazy how poorly the character of Dr. Doom has been handled in big blockbusters up to this point; someone probably could've convinced me he was like a d list side villain that the fantastic 4 just happen to run into first most of the time and I'd have believed them if I didn't watch videos about comics. With the way marvels been going, I fully expect them to mess him up like they do most characters, then kill him off like they do with the vast majority of their villains, which would just add to the pile of poor depictions of Dr. Doom. Really sad how poorly things have gone for the character. Admittedly, I don't actually know that much about Dr. Doom, but I feel like the charisma and improv that RDJ brings might be too upbeat and out of place for Dr. Doom, who usually seems more calm and stoic (in an intimidating way) from the little I've seen. I am very concerned he'll just be iron man. I love iron man, but I'd much rather have a Superior Iron Man plotline that some weird hybrid character ruining the future of two characters at once, lol I do hope the russo brothers can do good here tho. Really liked how infinity war turned out.
It’s the mcu fans now because they are the same ones that just wanna hop on the trend they don’t like marvel they like Disney’s marvel cinematic universe
I feel like it’s just a desperate attempt to get a win, and it’s ruining the potential for another actor to take on the role without it being completely jarring. They’re clearly not confident in just casting someone else as Doom so they’re relying on a Hail Mary with the golden boy of the MCU. I hope I’m wrong though
I've watched six MCU films. I know that sounds like a big number, but it's not in this context. I won't be there opening weekend. That's not even because of the casting choice. If I had my way I would have seen at least seven MCU films, but they're not a huge priority.
Same shit when ppl started defending female Silver Surfer, iTs In ThE cOmIcS...nah, its 3 panels in an Earth X comic nobody read in the last 20 years lol
Outside of the casting and the fact that they could easily just use Superior Iron Man, I'm more concerned with the fact that the MCU whitewashed a romani character AGAIN
Bringing him back just for the sake of a nostalgia cash grab is exactly what you'd expect from filmmakers so out of touch with their audience and human nature as a whole. The problem isn't (just some of) the actors, it's the writing, and until politics get kicked out of the whole mess, they'll keep getting stuck in the same loop until bankruptcy settles in. Those cheap, soulless cash grabs ain't gonna sustain them forever.
I don’t get why they didn’t recast Kang if they already had done it with the Hulk. Clearly that’s not an issue. I will say this is something that definitely caught my attention and I’m curious to see how this plays out

Man, I hate how Hulk was treated in the mcu. We could've gotten a mature hulk storyline in the mcu.
@@sirkingjames4656 I was happy with how they handled them too. In a massive movie, with so many characters to end a big trilogy.
@@sirkingjames4656the reason why Iron man and Captain America had perfects endings is bc there solo movies were actually good and showed us why to care about them, Thor movies weren’t that good they were okay, and Hulk had 1 good movie but they never really explored the characters of Bruce and Hulk relationship after the first movie and just went back to Bruce being afraid of Hulk again and after that they shitted on the character completely.
Another problem is casting a character in the MCU is tough enough because of the multiple year deals and no recast, but let'ss be real... RDJ is not keeping the mask on. 90% sure of this. Doom should've been another actor. This choice was odd, shocking, and... pretty safe.
Safe in what way? Only thing safe about this is RDJ's acting ability. Its pretty risky in every other way and poses high potential of failure

Pete and Tony got close during Civil War in the comics. That being said, RDJ as Doom is nothing but a desperate hailmarry.

Dr. Doom is not a villain from multiverse. He is from 616. Him not being from main MCU continuity makes universe look less rich (like we were introduced to every significant character in infinity saga and everyone else is from alternate universe) and doesn't really make sense for Doom

We don’t even get to know Doom before he’s featured in this big crossover
Honestly this just seems like a backup plan because Kang fell through. Kang got to have build up albeit a poorly thought out one meanwhile we’re just getting Doom thrown at us. And what happens after Secret Wars. I’ll be damned if they kill him off before he’s in a Fantastic Four film

In a side note I think classic doom was too iconic to be replaced, the infamous iron man literally reverted back to doom.
Only problem is I don't think Disney's that bright so we are screwed.
we're mcu glazers we don't actually read the source material our favorite universe comes from!

The most ANNOYING part about this besides RDJ's casting is the fact that DOOM isn't getting his own film before hand. He isn't gonna have NEARLY as much time to develop as Thanos or hell even Kang. He needs his own film showing his origin and uprising/takeover of Latveria.
Lego and Superhero Squad with EMH's Doom are the three best adaptations
He does not have the gravitas at ALL
I've watched six MCU films.
Nah bro Doom from Ironman armored adventures is peak, if you know you know.
That version of Doom was terrifying and Mandarin was amazing in that show
Its ironic because to quote Doom: "Doom is noones second choice".
"You're gonna be there opening weekend" LMAO, wanna bet?
Bringing him back just for the sake of a nostalgia cash grab is exactly what you'd expect from filmmakers so out of touch with their audience and human nature as a whole. The problem isn't (just some of) the actors, it's the writing, and until politics get kicked out of the whole mess, they'll keep getting stuck in the same loop until bankruptcy settles in. Those cheap, soulless cash grabs ain't gonna sustain them forever.
This video explains what I've been thinking about this news since Saturday. This is stupid.
I don’t get why they didn’t recast Kang if they already had done it with the Hulk. Clearly that’s not an issue.
I will say this is something that definitely caught my attention and I’m curious to see how this plays out
0:33 that was basically my reaction as well
the facts that we all know Ddj will never put the mask like Doom actually do in comics because its Rdj and "we need to see his face"
It would be okay if it was set in an alternate universe instead of the main MCU aka Earth 616.
It’s not 616 it’s 199999
@@Elge703 not according to Multiverse of Madness
@@RomaroBrandon lol I’m not believing in their bs there’s only 1 616 🤷♂️
@@Elge703its the 199999 in the multiverse of comics, its the 616 in the movie multiverse, its not so hard to comprehend
@@gaphdd1412 it’s not but it’s a terrible decision
this is like making a Thanos movie without making an Avengers movie first.
Luke Evans would have been better choice
*Johnathan Majors could had killed that role but Hollywood only gives black people no second chances...🤦😂*
