Kevin had two “Break in case of Emergency” buttons in his office: One for RDJ, one for Doom. And for some godforsaken reason, he decided to smash both at once
In a vacuum, he would probably kill the role. But I hate this decision because he’s Tony Stark. And idc what people say this is just super lazy and desperate and I want a new actor to play Doom
That's been my dream casting since Hannibal. I mean think about it. He played an extremely intelligent and extremely charismatic psychopath with charm and sophistication. Those are the perfect qualities for Doom. He would have been amazing
The stink of desperation of the RDJ casting is palpable. I told my wife, who is a casual Marvel watcher (at best), responded, “Why?! He’s Iron Man! That’s dumb.”
That or he's still young, like a grad student maybe, so hasn't become doctor doom yet. Although that would put him relatively close in age to Peter Parker, which seems wrong
@@Batx0123LOLXD I'm confident theres going to be some multiversal twist, and hes actually a distant variant, otherwise, they must have been smoking crack LMAO
Jonathan Majors, Black Panther dying and Blade taking too long ruined their plans so much they were forced to drop that bag on RDJ to get Marvel back on course
They could have just recast T'challa. Like they do with other characters all the time. Blade having all those issues seems like disney sabotage. They could of had Snipes do the story and direct it. Blade would have been done. I'm just going to say it. Disney doesn't want their so called black heros to outshine the yt ones. As someone said before, Disney wasn't ready for the success of Black Panther. So they did this to themselves but tell the public some bull story and most believe it.
@@buckisz They're really trying to create more "kings" for that audience, it reminds me of the 80's and early 90's all over again... I mean Doctor Doom, really? He wasn't even setup for this franchise.
Marvel is NOT back on track. Deadpool is just a memberberries key jingle, and that isn't going to work for the Avengers. Its easy to drop 80 million dollars on one actor, the hard part is to write an actually good movie, and they have not done that in a while, and while the cameo's in Deadpool are awesome, the actual plot is more multiverse nonsense, and they really need to leave that behind, because that kind of movie has no stakes, like the last Ant Man variant.
my crack theory is that in the scramble to replace jonathan majors, one person pitched RDJ's return to replace him because a variant iron man as kang has precedence, but then another person seperately pitched replacing kang with doom and they ended up doing both ideas, to questionable results.
Okay but in an event with Doomsday or Secret Wars or a crossover, it would be funny if Moon Knight specifically says “Somehow, Iron Man has returned.” Or something along those lines
This statement hit home. I felt this way at the series points. Agents of Shield was the first point I thought this way but they recovered. After Endgame they did hit Terminator lows indeed.
I think fans would have had a less mixed reaction if phase 4 and 5 were good and had no problems. Then with the content being good, RDJ being announced as Doom would have been a huge surprise. But a lot of us felt like it was desperation instead of a surprise because phases 4 and 5 were subpar.
@@daggon6987 I agree. A lot of fans checked out when RDJ and Chris Evans characters ended at the end of End Game, then a bunch more fans checked out after Chadwick passed away. That's 3 characters that the audience cared about gone. The pandemic just made it worse.
@@jordanacperry8797 I don't think every fans checked out, we were all excited for more until they spread out some trash and we just lost large amount of interest. Until some good ones brought it back
One odd thing. Doctor Doom never removes his mask. Why hire a famous face if you aren't going to show it? What will be different about Doom if showing his face is a thing? It seems inevitable this is a variant Tony Stark. An evil Tony from another universe is the only way this breaks down.
Maybe that's how they persuaded RDJ to come back. Limited time on set, let the body double do the rest, then some easy ADR sessions and as much mo-cap as you feel like doing.
@victornieves1794 body swap might be the only way to pull this off satisfactorily. Doom exhumes 616 Tony, uses the machine that created Vision to create a new body, transfers his consciousness into it - all as a play to be a literal Marvel Jesus. He’d pull an anti-Christ, using the power of the most popular man in the MCU coming back from the dead. That would start a whole new religion. Then by the end of Doomsday, Peter reveals the whole plot and we go back to classic Doom for Secret Wars. But that sounds too insane for movies coming out in the span of 3 years
While I do think RDJ is one of the few actors who has enough screen presence to finally make a strong Dr. Doom, it does just feel like they didn't know how to get butts in seats for the F4 and Avengers movies. Imagine how cool it would have been to leave Doom's actor anonymous, see a good performance, and *then* see who was playing him after a public reveal. But right now, this moreso seems like "Fantastic 4 is infamous for flopping at the box office, we need to make damn sure people go and watch that to be ready for Doomsday."
@@abigfavor Unfortunately not. RDJ back in the MCU? That is not being kept secret from anyone. It's a shame, because an onscreen reveal instead of at Comic-Con would have been quite something.
@RtistiqSkubie I agree with you. Disnep has an army of lawyers and those NDAs are no joke. They can get a lot of money out of you. Like a lot. It's entirely possible to shoot a small role separately and keep it secret until the feature releases. See Deadpool And Wolverstein if you want proof. Of course if he's the main villain you're probably not going to keep that under wraps but they absolutely could introduce him without announcing it. They certainly can do that
I don't think it has anything to do with performance of previous FF movies but everything to do with performance of last couple MCU movies and Disney movies in general. GotG did great and Deadpool seems to be a smashing hit but Quantumania bombed, Marvels bombed, Eternals bombed, Dial of Destiny bombed. They put a lot of money into Soul, Luca and Turning Red which they probably did not recoup in Disney+ subscriptions. The execs are getting prwtty desperate... hence RDJ comes back.
“If you won’t cast Asian actors, how can we become Big Names who can carry a film? It’s a catch 22.” - Ming Na Wen It’s not that there are no Roma actors working today. It’s not that there are no ESTABLISHED Roma actors working today. It’s that Romani identities are not respected or prioritized in the casting process. FOR EXAMPLE. My pick for Wanda Maximoff before Elizabeth Olsen was cast was Noomi Rapace, Swedish actress of Romani descent. Star of the original internationally acclaimed Girl With the Dragon Tattoo films, Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, and costar of RDJ’s Sherlock sequel. If Disney and Marvel cared even a TINY bit about Roma identities, they’d have pursued Rapace. Instead, their “inspiration” for Wanda was Saorise Ronan. Arguably the whitest woman in the entirety of Western Europe. There ARE Romani actors who could play Doom. Hollywood just won’t let them work. It won’t platform them. It won’t “take a chance” on them. And it won’t even adhere to adaptational authenticity when casting arguably THE most important Roma characters in fiction. Who is there??? Really??? Like you said, Doom, The Maximoff twins, and Nightwing. Add classic literature and who do we have? Quasimodo and Esmeralda (but not really cause bAbY sNaTcHiNg). Give me a BREAK. This only happened because Roma are not a relatively large, or vocal, American Minority, so they don’t receive the same benefits from affirmative action efforts, like OscarsSoWhite, which seek to address the American industry and culture. But that doesn’t mean they’re not real. That doesn’t mean their stories don’t matter. This announcement nuked all excitement I had for any upcoming MCU project. Fire every executive, cancel everything that hasn’t been filmed yet, I am sick of this self aggrandizing, self referential, nonsense. It’s masturbatorial at this point. Enough is enough. Robert Downey Jr as Doom is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard, and all the fanboys lactating over this need to get their heads checked. NEWS FLASH. People liked these movies because THEY LIKED THE CHARACTERS AND THE STORYTELLING - AND THAT IS BIGGER THAN ONE ACTOR. It’s NOT the RDJ show. They HAD characters worth committing to - Wanda in particular is a GREAT example. What in the MULTIVERSE happened there??? Then they bungled Captain Marvel, poor Chadwick passed, and Ant-Man remains the worst thing to ever happen to the MCU. Well. Until now.
I'm just visualising "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" version of Wanda and damn that would have been cool. Mind you, just a better planned version of Wanda would have been brilliant - and frankly if we're bringing in multiverses now it's a perfect time to bring in a new/3rd quicksilver from a different verse. They're not even limited to 1 Wanda now either.
@@technounionrepresentative4274 I think the only difference worth pointing out here is that Jewish people are a relatively vocal minority community IN AMERICA. Romani Americans constitute maaaybe 1million people, compared to the, say, 7.5million American Jews. So, while I agree in part with what you say, - for example, we have had two goyim actors play Magneto - but his identity as a Jewish man was not removed from his character, as Wanda and Pietro’s identities as Romani Jews were excised from their characters. This is a long way of saying, yes, you’re correct - but it’s a matter of degrees. And the problem is, for now, MUCH worse for Romani characters and actors. Because at least studio executives know that they will hear from Jewish audiences if/when they disappoint or upset them. Studios have not yet learned that there are consequences when they do the same to Roma characters or people - frankly, because there aren’t any so far. We were all broadly quite quiet when Olsen and Taylor-Johnson were cast and Noomi Rapace / Mihaela Dragan weren’t. That’s what needs to change, we need the studio executives - the men with the green light for funding and creative direction - to recognize that Roma exist, and that they are NOT easier to erase than they are to platform.
Some feckless hack in the writing room: "You see, that hammering at the forge at the end of Endgame was ACTUALLY Iron Man forging his DOOM mask! Its so poetic and subverts expectations!"
The writers and execs were probably sitting there thinking "Who is best to test the mettle of the new avenger line up? I know the guy who started it all, Ironman. But isn't he dead? Well we can just say it an alternate universe variant where Ironman is wait for it... Dr. Doom." And no one spoke to tell him how lame that is.
@@jamescano1769 I hope they have learned from The Mandalorian and only use him as a voice and for a few scenes without the mask. But let's say that Marvel is not known for keeping actors' helmets/masks on. I understand they want to get their money's worth from the actors, but it always bothers me. It was noticeable even in the last Deadpool movie that compared to the previous movies Ryan has less time with the mask.
@@audaciousjones Because he is a great actor and could contribute a lot to the character with his body language and voice. As happened with Karl Urban in Dredd. Don't worry, we are all confused. I honestly don't know how to feel about the news. There are so many actors in the world, and yet they got RDJ to play Doctor Doom.

The problem with RDJ as Doctor Doom means that Doom will be yet another underutilized villain. I can’t imagine him being the primary villain for Secret Wars and then continuing the character on in future films. If he is introduced later with a different actor, and a different backstory, it won’t matter much to the average viewer.
Because RDJ equals butts in seats. He can either be a Tony Stark variant; a Stark variant who happens to be named Victor Von Doom in this timeline (say his parents died and he was adopted by Latverians or something); or a Cap/Human Torch-style variant (different guy with same physical appearance).
All of those sound lame though. Couldn't the MCU just have a cool Dr. Doom that is not Tony Stark. Now it's just like congratulations you have a Dr. Doom that is destined to sit in the shadow of Iron man.
This reveal would have been mind-blowing if they kept it as a secret until the movie came out. And it would have made more buzz this way (and probably attracted more people to watch the movie). Imagine seeing a teaser of Doom at the end of the FF movie, wondering who's portraying him and then, on the Doomsday premier everyone sees it's RDJ and loses their minds because we see his fantastic performance as Victor Von Doom.
They tried that already with Beast in Captain Marvel 2, & look at how that turned out. They are trying to make money. They would not do such an absurd thing like keeping a secret like this.
Nando, you literally pitched that evil alternate universe Tony Stark should replace Kang as the villain in the next Avengers movies, like, six months ago. That's what this is. You were right. Take the victory lap.
@@jordanvance1657 I guarantee that's still what this is, just with Infamous Iron Man stuff mixed in as well. Amalgamating different characters from the comics into one cinematic villain is such standard procedure for the MCU that some of Nando's earliest videos are about that specifically.
@Janootz hell, even have it that this is one universe's evil Tony Stark who is posing as/stolen the identity of Victor Von Doom for power, and then real Doom comes back pissed
RDJ‘s big comeback was when Marvel gave him a chance and cast him as Iron Man. Prior to that, his reputation was pretty tarnished by his his history of addiction. They helped launch him back into stardom. Wish they could’ve done that for an unknown Romani actor.
Of course RDJ would do more than a good job. Like most fans, I don't doubt his acting range, what with the recent Oscar, for a second. The elephant in the room here is the fact Doctor Doom is one of the most iconic villains in comic book. So it stands to reason that I want Doom to develop as a new addition to the MCU gradually and satisfyingly, especially when his role would span an entire phase. Imagine if the MCU hadn't introduced Thanos and the Infinity Stones until Infinity War. It wouldn't be half as good. What I see happening here is Kevin Feige in damage control mode. Doom should've been his own thing instead of an evil Tony Stark's variant or whatever else Feige has cooked up for him because the point is moot. People would flock to the theaters, and no doubt that is a fact, to see RDJ more than this new character he'd be playing.
Marvel Studios cast a romani actor challenge (impossible mode) This basically cemented that they’re not just ignorant, they actively don’t care. I’m pretty disgusted
And the thing that makes it worse is that they were willing to be accurate to cast an isreali actor to play the zionist character Sabra which including that character is so already inappropriate since they announced when the Free Palestine Palestine movement kicked off but what makes it even worse is when you think about the fact that Marvel has never been willing to correctly cast the correct ethnicity for ACTUAL minorities (ex: The Maximoff Twins,America Chavez,The Ancient One) and now their adding Doom to the list of characters their whitewashing which imo highlights the Sabra thing and makes it even worse
@@awhimsyreader9015 EXTREMELY good point, thank you for making it! The MCU has a serious problem with whitewashing and everything you’ve said is very true And the funny part is, their take on Sabra isn’t even accurate; the whole point of the character in the comics is basically to get yelled at for being a Zionist and a shithead and now not only are they uncritically promoting a Zionist actress, they’ve genericized this pointed criticism of Zionism into another former Black Widow
On the one hand, it's a very sudden pick for this character and honestly the casting itself doesn't bother me as much as the possibility they might only have a post credits scene or two with Doom before the Avengers films. I would very much have liked at least one Fantastic Four film that established the relationship between Reed and Victor because it's just another reason I find him so captivating as a villain. I also am waiting to see if they even address his Romani background because it's one of the things that makes his POV on magic and science being equals such an amazing dichotomy to Reed being a slave to logic and reason On the other hand, RDJ just won an Oscar for playing a man who tried to systematically dismantle the life of a successful scientist, driven by the insecurity that he is smarter than him. That's very on-brand for Victor
@@icedcapplord710 that's probably why they announced it before they started filming fantastic four so people wouldn't wonder why Robert Downey Jr is on the set
@@fettuccinealfredo6499 They're back to using tried and true writer and directors who appreciate the source material instead of randos that were told not to read it, so I ain't worried about the writing nor the acting. Would be cool for fans that care about the character Doom, but your average Marvel fan won't get excited for another actor as Doom when Robert Downey Jr is already there. Like it would have almost no impact to the avarage public.
Kevin Feige said it himself "the only one who could play". You can't trust them to be transparent, but you can trust them to be as honest as marketing spokespeople ever get. They lost Kang, and they lost an actor they had built up and invested a lot in. We all know Jonathan Majors was supposed to be Kang. What you're forgetting is this is this is going to be the next Avengers movie after Endgame. The pressure for it to outperform at least Age of Ultron is enormous. They need to make 2 billion dollars and that almost is not negotiable or the future of the MCU is truly in serious, executive level "Disney doesn't own enough media outlets to resuscitate the hype" doubt. They invested 2 seasons of Loki and an Ant-Man movie into Kang, on top of an Avengers movie, on top of Kang was probably planned for one of the movies that he's now been written out of, like Thunderbolts or Fantastic Four or something else. Fantastic Four is incredibly likely to have been intended to use Kang. Deadpool and Wolverine may have been intended to use Kang. Kang was supposed to be everywhere. Jonathan Majors took a lot of projects down with him. It's not just Antman not by a long shot. Captain America 4 *probably* was always going to just be Red Hulk we can't really be sure if Kang affected that too or not but he could have.
The reaction people have is that "if they used any other character it wouldn't be hype enough" and that is just a testament of how much of a disaster all these IPs they have inside of marvel's brand. I don't understand how this is a celebration. This is the result of a failed brand to show any new buzz of any new IPs/Characters. This is doomsday for marvel as a company, if this can't breathe new life or address their failures of 2020 to 2026
If they plan to reset the MCU in some way, then it's kind of poetic that RDJ is both the hero that started it all, and the villain who will end it all.
I could imagine this really Infinity War Star Lord type set up where the Avengers have Doom restrained and then Spiderman takes off Doom’s mask and the impending chaos and shock gives Doom the opening to activate the ultimate nullifier or whatnot
Man, if Peter takes of Doom's mask and it's Tony Stark, I'll go watch it at least twice in theaters. I think it'd be a better move to basically make him "Tony Von Doom" than Victor. Gives room to bring in real Victor at some point, but also allows for that insane reveal.
@@Paradox-es3blI hope they have him as Victor but at the end we find out he’s a doom bot and we get the real doom revealed if they give him the power of the beyond era to make battle world. Deadpool & Wolverine is just fine. It feels like a cash grab but so does everything mcu right now. This casting decision screams cash grab, I’m inclined to believe it is one.
Idk which would be worse RDJ playing Doom just straight up as if he had never played Tony Stark, or Doom being a Tony Stark variant I think the Stark variant would be way worse but it’s hard to say for sure
My theory is that RDJ Doctor Doom will only appear in Avengers 5 and 6 as the main villain. Then a big reset will happen at the end of Secret Wars, then the FF and X-Men will be retconned into Earth-616 alongside the Avengers and other MCU heroes. The new 616 Dr. Doom will be played by a new actor.
You know, they could have actually cast a Romani actor considering Doom is Romani. Never had an actual Romani Doom before. Or like, anyone but RDJ. They could have reused Mads Mikkelsen, not like anyone is attached to his character in Doctor Strange.
@@rosecity_chrisi mean, what do you expect at this point? They tried new things with the Marvel Shows, trying to bring in new characters with them and with new movies like Shang-Chi & The Eternals. Those didn't do as well as i'm sure they hoped (definitely not on par with any of the great "Infinity Saga" movies), so i'm sure this was their next step: Nostalgia but with a twist (which is technically what they've been doing as of recent anyway)
The way I hope this works out is that Doom isn't *literally* a variant of Tony, but that they're each their own universe's Scientist Supreme or something like that, and so they're spiritually Multiversal counterparts. Like all of the different Spider-People who aren't variants of Peter Parker, but are still considered to be cosmically sort of the same guy
This is the only explanation that to me makes the most sense and no one is talking about. People are saying doom killed Tony and replaced him etc that to me is too convoluted. With the spiderverse if you applied that same concept it makes more sense and flows better and they could keep the MCU going but with new characters as the old ones set in different multiverse world
So they’re going to have a Dr Doom variant for 2 movies before he’s defeated in Secret Wars. Then the official DR Doom in the Mutant Saga in 2028. Yeah. Marvel was desperate in their failure and resorted to RDJ as its Marvel savior.
I’m at this place in my life where I’ve seen at least two movie studios make Dr Doom not like Dr. Doom and I don’t think I can take any more heartbreak.
It’s 2026. Me and my fiance sitting at the movies watching this movie and mid movie my fiance asks “wait, is that iron man? Didn’t he die? Why is he evil?”
My take: This would've been so much better, had they waited for the movie to come out to reveal it. The theather would've been silent for that reveal. But like this, it shows that they are not making this decision out of a creative reason, but a pr one. But now we are here so what I think they should do is make him a Doom drone. To take over 616 the real Doom uses the face of tony stark to get people on his side, but at the end of Doomsday it is revealed that Tony-Doom is a robot and the real one makes himself known. Played by one of my top 4: Mads Mikkelsen, Chillian Murphy, Giancarlo Esposito, David Dastmalchian. This is highly unlikely but hey, i trust Rdj and I'm here for the ride.
Giancarlo is playing the head of the Serpent Society in the new Capt American tho 😧 David Dastmalchian would be a wild pick, since his Ant-man character is still alive I think 😅
They are trying to make MONEY. That means they won't do stupid things like that, as they prioritise getting paid more over making the best experience for a few people.
Are forgetting that Variants exist? This could be a John Krasinski situation, setting up that the character exists, and then replace them with what will be “our” mainstay variant
@@SerCaliber it could be a variant but what happened after secret wars when everyone comes back home or back to whatever is the new MCU? Do we still have RDJ or a new Doom? Then that's going to be a problem also. Half the fans are going to want RDJs Doom and won't accept anyone new. It's still unnecessarily messy no matter what.
I think there is a reasonable chance that they never show Doom's face and it's basically stunt casting but won't have any connection to iron man and because you never see him it never comes up.
There MIGHT be a way to smoothen this out. Make Doom like King Baldwin. Never takes off the mask, doesn't quip, doesn't even raise his voice much. There'd be power even to his whisper. It'd also be against typecasting for RDJ. The problem, he might just ended mimicking Ed Norton as King Baldwin. And regardless what happens, it's still RDJ under the mask. Our Iron Man. Over plenty other actors that could fit the role.
Letting RDJ flex as an alt universe Doom in Secret Wars and be the inspiration to 616's Doom to what he COULD be for future movies would be interesting.
Mcu isn't 616 no matter how much they say it is. 616 is the original "sacred timeline" from comics that they ran into the ground with 2015 secret wars.

I can't help but feel this is out of desperation. Marvel need to bring back those who fell off and their recent flops and criticisms of the constant pumping out of TV shows have made them need a comeback.
Whether or not it is in fact out of desperation (I think it is), the fact of the matter is that this makes them LOOK desperate, which does not inspire confidence.
@@sssspider I agree with you. Looking desperate weakens their position and definitely doesn't inspire hope. The better way would be to cast a different actor and then have RDJ as a variant. You can't buy the only Doom we'll have is just an evil iron man.
I'm betting, and hoping, that this is a fake-out for shock value. He'll play Dr. Doom for like 1h - 1h30min into the movie and it'll be revealed he had switched bodies with, or been mind controlled by, the real Dr. Doom. This way they can bring back Tony into the MCU as another version of Iron Man. Either that or the Beyonder is pulling some strings to mess around and the real Dr. Doom will defeat him by the end of Doomsday.
I agree Kang could and _arguably should_ have been different actors. It's not like there's no precedent for variants to look completely different. The problem is that they put all their eggs in the Jonathan Majors basket. Which does make sense. Kang was meant to be the next big bad on the level of Thanos. They would most likely want a definitive face for him, rather than adding others into the mix. "This is our Kang. This is the guy you'll be seeing more of." I think they still could have recast and it probably would have been fine. But this is what they're doing now.
@@ataridc Okay let’s take your weird racist remark and put that aside, even if Doom wasn’t Romani this is still an awful casting decision that reeks of desperation.
In my headcanon, the only way this would work is if the F4 got into a cosmic storm and ended up displaced from their universe, with the third act twist being "they're in a different universe not their original one". Having a Doom from another Universe wouldn't remove the importance of Tony's death. Though, tbh having a Doombot with the face of Tony Stark could be a lot of fun
There’s incredible award winning actors. It’s not like we’ve run out. Cillian Murphy is a straightforward choice and he just won an Oscar. Then there’s tons of voice actors since the face is rarely ever shown.
regardless of the casting, bringing Doom in actually makes me feel like they have a direction on how to end the multiverse saga, even before Majors was fired i wasn’t convinced they’d be able to pull it off with Kang as the villain. but with Doom, i can see a few different approaches to Secret Wars they can take
Who care he is not Romani lol . First person on planet earth that cares about that . Next up we must get an evil super scientist to play an evil super scientist

I sort of like the idea of Reed and Doom (RDJ) showing up and trying to convince the Avengers to trust them and not the other guy. Because in that scenario, the Avengers are of course going to feel predisposed to trust the guy who is an alternate version of one of their founding members.
It would be interesting to see an evil version of Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man but I honestly don't want Doctor Doom to be that evil version. I'd rather just see an evil Iron Man. That being said I do think it would be kind of an interesting idea to do the Infamous Iron Man in some way or the what if story or honestly some mixture in there with Secret Wars but I really just don't want to see Doctor Doom change so much that he's just Iron Man basically that's like the leading Doctor Doom as a character as a whole rather than just making another Multiverse Iron Man
For this to work they needed to plan it from the start and slowly have hints on his identity rather than less than 2 years from release. I’d love Doomsday to be Doom pretending to be Stark taking over the Avengers (essentially Dark Avengers but with Doom instead of Norman Osborn)
That's part of my worry that this will be the only Doom we get...that it isn't a long term thing and is just a result of stunt casting bringing back a beloved dead character/actor.
Okay so about middle video here but I think we're going to get a mixture of several different story lines just like we have been getting this entire time. It will probably start with some sort of storyline similar to the body swap story and ending with some sort of Secret Wars reset
I quite like the metatextual idea of Doom's personality alluding to the worst parts of Tony's, but DEFINATELY never to make it literally the same guy. Just create fun mirrored situations for the audience to consider, which is about as high concept as I expect they'll get.
I really think that there's a real actor that they have that is set to play Doctor Doom for a majority of his time on screen and that Robert Downey Jr is going to be a one-off in a movie or a body swap temporarily with a different Tony from Another Universe. Similar to the what if story

Maybe that's how they persuaded RDJ to come back. Limited time on set, let the body double do the rest, then some easy ADR sessions and as much mo-cap as you feel like doing.
isnt it obvious thats why they are doing this, as a reveal to the other avengers for the shock, i mean come on
@victornieves1794 body swap might be the only way to pull this off satisfactorily.

It’s a catch 22.” - Ming Na Wen
It’s not that there are no Roma actors working today.
Same thing with Jewish characters

They lost Kang, and they lost an actor they had built up and invested a lot in.
We all know Jonathan Majors was supposed to be Kang.
What you're forgetting is this is this is going to be the next Avengers movie after Endgame.

Kang never would have been in CA4. Kang's multiversal, & CA is more about being "grounded".

I agree. I can't imagine rdj would sign in for another 10-15 year run, which I assume Doom would need
You know, they could have actually cast a Romani actor considering Doom is Romani. Never had an actual Romani Doom before. Or like, anyone but RDJ. They could have reused Mads Mikkelsen, not like anyone is attached to his character in Doctor Strange.
"Was it redemption? Not really, it was pathetic desperation and not much else" - Max Payne.
Marvel is desperate at this point. Instead of giving us the best characterization possible for Doom, they are playing with the nostalgia factor.
Exactly, now people would flock to the theaters to see RDJ play Doctor Doom, instead of Doctor Doom himself.
Im so sick of it. This entire phase has been a nostalgia bait gimmick
Great example was Wolverine amd deadpool.
We don’t know how they’re gonna characterize Doom tho, all we got is the casting and nothing else. Maybe it’s too early to tell don’t you think
I love Snipes's line: "There's only one Blade, and there's only ever gonna be one Bladr" 😅😅😂😂
With everything that's happening in the new Blade movie's production, that line may end up being true😂
Who woulda thought Snipes would break the fourth wall 😂

The way I hope this works out is that Doom isn't *literally* a variant of Tony, but that they're each their own universe's Scientist Supreme or something like that, and so they're spiritually Multiversal counterparts. Like all of the different Spider-People who aren't variants of Peter Parker, but are still considered to be cosmically sort of the same guy
This is the only explanation that to me makes the most sense and no one is talking about. People are saying doom killed Tony and replaced him etc that to me is too convoluted. With the spiderverse if you applied that same concept it makes more sense and flows better and they could keep the MCU going but with new characters as the old ones set in different multiverse world
I've never heard a spoiler alert for a real person's death before 😂
who?

So they’re going to have a Dr Doom variant for 2 movies before he’s defeated in Secret Wars. Then the official DR Doom in the Mutant Saga in 2028. Yeah. Marvel was desperate in their failure and resorted to RDJ as its Marvel savior.
I’m at this place in my life where I’ve seen at least two movie studios make Dr Doom not like Dr. Doom and I don’t think I can take any more heartbreak.
This.
Apparently we live in the timeline where there is no good live action Doom adaptations
I’ve heard the 90s one is actually decent, though I know most people haven’t seen that one.
What about the one with the Rock?
It’s 2026. Me and my fiance sitting at the movies watching this movie and mid movie my fiance asks “wait, is that iron man? Didn’t he die? Why is he evil?”
😂😅
Save her now!
Armor Wars was a TV show that was then a movie that was then cancelled.
I would’ve picked Dev Patel, literally an attempt to pick from the ethnic group of Roma people
My take:
This would've been so much better, had they waited for the movie to come out to reveal it.
Giancarlo is playing the head of the Serpent Society in the new Capt American tho 😧
David Dastmalchian would be a wild pick, since his Ant-man character is still alive I think 😅
I think Cillian Murphy will be a doom in either Secret Wars or after it
I'm glad they revealed it now because i would've died of cringe on the spot
Get a Romani actor: Charlie Clapham
They are trying to make MONEY. That means they won't do stupid things like that, as they prioritise getting paid more over making the best experience for a few people.
Nando really made a video saying the next Avengers should be Tony Stark and uhh yeah I guess that makes sense since he secretly writes Marvel
I don't want RDJ to play Dr Doom. They couldn't get another quality actor? ... Well I guess Chris Evens can play Galactus now?
Are forgetting that Variants exist? This could be a John Krasinski situation, setting up that the character exists, and then replace them with what will be “our” mainstay variant
@@SerCaliber it could be a variant but what happened after secret wars when everyone comes back home or back to whatever is the new MCU? Do we still have RDJ or a new Doom? Then that's going to be a problem also. Half the fans are going to want RDJs Doom and won't accept anyone new. It's still unnecessarily messy no matter what.
I saw that exact pairing elsewhere in this comments section. Weird coincidence.
YOU GOT MENTIONED IN FILM THEORISTS!! I hope this will bring more people to your channels
You smell that? That’s the smell of desperation.
So corny
@@vileink4733 Yes
@@vileink4733 What’s your point?
“Fantastic Science with Mr. Fantastic” is the sweetest and coolest thing I’ve ever heard omg!!! I can’t wait to see Pedro Pascal as a nerdy kids show host! 😭💙
I've been waiting for the Nando take on this
He has to be a variant. Kang should have been multiple actors to be honest. Maybe doom is going to be multiple actors now
I agree Kang could and _arguably should_ have been different actors. This is the guy you'll be seeing more of."
I think they still could have recast and it probably would have been fine. But this is what they're doing now.
Do you want to piss everyone off? Because THIS is how you piss everyone off.
Disney is OUT of ideas.
I'm not pissed off at all this is really exciting to me
@@tehronmoment1367 waaaah but he's not romani waaaah who freakin cares lolol
@@ataridc Okay let’s take your weird racist remark and put that aside, even if Doom wasn’t Romani this is still an awful casting decision that reeks of desperation.
Seems everyone and they're mother is eating this up like really?!

Imagine Doom restarts the universe, kicking off secret wars…. By snapping his fingers.
People seem to be forgetting RDJ saying "Different mask, same task".
He's still gonna ruin Doom
@@blackdynamite_5470 I'm going to wait and see.
I see 2 options. They either tried other actors, but failed. Or they make him a alternate variant. So hopefully not the mcu dr.doom
There’s incredible award winning actors. It’s not like we’ve run out. Cillian Murphy is a straightforward choice and he just won an Oscar. Then there’s tons of voice actors since the face is rarely ever shown.
@@Davidsworldtravels what I mean with tried but failed is that they wanted to cast people like Cillian Murphy. But he wasn't intrested in the role
You do realize Fantastic Four is in another universe right?
@@0910yoramMany actors would jump at the chance to get some of that Disney cash
regardless of the casting, bringing Doom in actually makes me feel like they have a direction on how to end the multiverse saga, even before Majors was fired i wasn’t convinced they’d be able to pull it off with Kang as the villain. but with Doom, i can see a few different approaches to Secret Wars they can take
Im so happy you acknowledged Giacchinos FF trailer/drone show music. That theme alone had me so sold. Also your speed racer connection was spot on
Charlie Chaplin also had Romani blood in him, so this will be #2 for RDJ.
Who care he is not Romani lol . First person on planet earth that cares about that . Next up we must get an evil super scientist to play an evil super scientist
@@Drivenby dooms romani origins is central to his character
@@fullmetal2455 Its more than actors are allowed to play characters that do not completely fit their IRL counterpart... they are... actors.
@@Drivenby because giving opportunities to actors of said backgrounds ensures that 1. you get an actor who viscerally understands what that characters goes through, which is better than one who doesn't. 2. I sort of like the idea of Reed and Doom (RDJ) showing up and trying to convince the Avengers to trust them and not the other guy. Because in that scenario, the Avengers are of course going to feel predisposed to trust the guy who is an alternate version of one of their founding members.
As soon as I saw the news I was waiting for this vid lol
It would be interesting to see an evil version of Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man but I honestly don't want Doctor Doom to be that evil version. I'd rather just see an evil Iron Man. That being said I do think it would be kind of an interesting idea to do the Infamous Iron Man in some way or the what if story or honestly some mixture in there with Secret Wars but I really just don't want to see Doctor Doom change so much that he's just Iron Man basically that's like the leading Doctor Doom as a character as a whole rather than just making another Multiverse Iron Man
Same here. It's like tryna hire Hugh as Sabertooth as he's done with Wolverine
For this to work they needed to plan it from the start and slowly have hints on his identity rather than less than 2 years from release. I’d love Doomsday to be Doom pretending to be Stark taking over the Avengers (essentially Dark Avengers but with Doom instead of Norman Osborn)
The worst part is that I know he’ll do a *fantastic* job at Doctor Doom, I just wish for his grand debut into the MCU it wasn’t like this 😢
Tbf RDJ did play a little role in the mcu before in a couple films. Forgot his name, so many people forget this won't be his debut.
@@ojplays889 *Doom’s debut
That's part of my worry that this will be the only Doom we get...that it isn't a long term thing and is just a result of stunt casting bringing back a beloved dead character/actor.
If you were going to do this why announce it? This would’ve been the biggest reveal of all time
I’m assuming hes going to be bandaged/behind a mask anyways. Or some evil clone/bodyswap thing. Its still weird
Can't wait for James Gunn in 2030 anouncing Margot Robbie as punch line 🔥🔥

I’ve never been so conflicted on a casting like… good god. I love Downey, will he kill it? Yeah. But don’t think I really vibe with the idea of
Okay so about middle video here but I think we're going to get a mixture of several different story lines just like we have been getting this entire time. It will probably start with some sort of storyline similar to the body swap story and ending with some sort of Secret Wars reset
Kang's arc looks less confusing than this thing going on ..
I am Iron Man
Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all
Or if he moves will he fall?
Is he alive or dead?
Has he thoughts within his head?
We'll just pass him there
Why should we even care?
He was turned to steel
In the great magnetic field
When he traveled time
For the future of mankind
Nobody wants him
He just stares at the world
Planning his vengeance
That he will soon unfurl
Now the time is here
For Iron Man to spread fear
Vengeance from the grave
Kills the people he once saved
Nobody wants him
They just turn their heads
Nobody helps him
Now he has his revenge
Heavy boots of lead
Fill his victims full of dread
Running as fast as they can
