I just recently went through a flap of insomnia after a mistake at the pharmacy. People weren't meant to be awake 24/7. Nothing weird happened but the sense of time while everyone else is sleeping is kind of disturbing to me. Takes me a bit to adjust back to normal life after a period of extended insomnia. Something feels wrong and time loses all meaning. My sleep doctor is like a Saint to me.

I'll actually issue a minor correction - Weird shit absoultley does happen if you're awake too long.
Nothing supernatural, but hallucinations begin to set in after somewhere around 48 hours.
Our body uses sleep to do a lot of really important stuff. From hormone production, to repairing injuries, to memory processing - Hell, just the fact that we can spend about eight hours burning a significantly lower level of calories than the rest of the day is an advantage.

The difference in human experience is fascinating. As someone who struggled with heavy drug use throughout my 20s it was completely normal for me to stay awake for up to nearly 100 hours at a time. Yes 4 days. And this would be frequently. It was so common to me that I didn't notice any difference. Day, night, everyone sleeping or awake. It was all the same. It actually got to the point where I didn't want to sleep so I'd stay high to prevent it. Not because I was scared of nightmares or whatever but just because sleep felt like time wasted. Those were not healthy years lol.

I’ve never heard this story, but I’ve grown up in Arkansas, and I just want to congratulate you. You’ve done something very few people can do. You pronounced Searcy correctly! I grew up in Searcy and half the people who live there can’t even pronounce it right!

I loved it. Fun theory, our brains are constantly tapping into supernatural energy even if we don't realize. Every night when we dream our brain releases the built-up energy. If we don't dream or sleep the energy overloads and drives us insane or provides a strong enough anchor for fourth dimensional beings so seep into our mind

I wonder if there are going to be more sleep experiment stories from around the world. So far I listened to the Russian, Texas and Arkansas ones.

Edit: Jk, the post underneath is BS obviously lol. Loved the story, thank you for another great narration and thanks to the author as well!
Funnily enough though, it does sound like a crazy meth psychosis story but then again most of the bad side effects from meth use come from sleep deprivation and in this story there definitely was sleep deprivation sooo.. yeah.
    -------------------
They were getting hopped up on meth.
The “uneasy” feeling is the fact their fight or flight is at 100% like most tweakers, that feeling ends up becoming severe paranoia and in worst cases psychosis.
The “debates” they felt like having is just the dopamine making them feel euphoric and wanting to express their ideas more than ever before.
They now believe their thoughts are some of the best ideas anybody has ever had. That’s why you see tweakers do crazy shit and not give a damn, it all sounded good in their heads.
