Thanks for posting this excellent interview of the mega talented Kirsty MacColl! I have most of her music and I am looking for the rest. She said the last name of what sounded like David Garza is spelled J-I-R-Z-A. I don’t understand. How could a last name spelled that way be pronounced “garza”? I found a talented “David Garza” on youtube. I found no David Jirza. Rest In Peace Kirsty MacColl!
Thanks. His name is David Jirza. It was the autotranscribe that was off. But I couldn't find anything on him either. She probably meant David Garza, since he's from Texas and she mentioned Austin.

@@markant9534 Yes she is well known for that, although the Christmas tradition of playing that song is no where near as popular here in the States.
I was shocked when I learned she was killed by a boat in the Gulf of Mexico.
the "justice system" in that country was disgusting when it came to prosecuting and sentencing those responsible
she is an amazing angel now she saved her son but it took her own

The interviewer is awful, she seems so awkward and doesn't seem to know what she's on about. Kirsty comes across really well though, as she does in all her interviews
I couldn't agree more. The interviewer is just flat awful. Clearly she has never listened to Kirsty's music and knows nothing about it. She really loves to talk about herself.

Another shocker.. Shane McGowan isn't actually Irish by birth or upbringing.
He was actually born and raised in Kent, England to Irish parents. . affecting a stereotypical style and imposture which would ultimately serve as the basis for his career..
Kirsty was a great fan of folk music. Her father Ewan MacColl wrote "dirty old town" about factory workers in Salford England which would be covered later by the Dubliners.. . and r inducted into the "Irish" songbook.
Kirsty and the pogues collaborated on a few occasions.. they had a very good working relationship and mutuel respect for one another.
Much like Shane, Kirstie was also an Irish person with Irish parents, but happened to grow up in England, and have a cool cockney accent and grew up that way
