Hiya Steevee. This is sad, I think. "Interview" Should never have taken place. Really feel for Shane. And it's another reason for me not to like Skinner. Condescending p***k. Thanks for the vid though. 👍🍻
Just had a listen to Fairy Tale of New York. Love it. Poor Kirsty, tragic.
if anyone had any respect for Shane and was honored to have a conversation they would never talk about the teeth its ridiculous imagine interviewing the def leppard drummer and pretending you only have 1 arm. i hate lame people.
Frank looks like Ken Docherty in this video.
Love your soul Shane McGowan, thanks for blessing us with your beautiful music, may you rest in peace, God bless you!!! You will be missed!! 😥

Extremely so. Heaven is richer though. RIP Shane, lova ya!
Crazy how he lived for another 20 years after this. RIP
I agree it’s amazing he lasted so long , considering he had such a heavy life style 😬
Back then I would have never believed it that he would have stayed with us for 20 more years. Loved the dude to death but man, he truly lived hard. Harder than most.
that is exactly what I asked myself in that moment
Absolutly he is horrible here, just half alive
24 😂😂😂 Irish spirit is hard to kill.
I have never really been a fan of his but I had a look at some interviews on You Tube since he died. I have to say I think I have missed out on the man. Genuine and likeable. Intelligent. And I felt genuinely annoyed every time any of the interviewers tried to make fun of him. He seems like a really lovely bloke and I’m sad he’s gone.
Good on you for what you said and your caring thought about people making fun of Shane, but he was smarter than many, now they will learn a lot from hm
Me too :(
I never understood why nearly every interviewer tried to make little of him.He was extremely clever and Talented
@@michaelshelley9583 he was a thick Mick . Couldn't string 4 words together, that's coz he was pissed on 😅stage
Couldn't agree more.
I think he was a sensitive chap that's probably why he drank so much bless his soul
I saw the Pogues play NY just before St Paddy's day (2008 or 2009). Shane got up on stage holding a half bottle of whisky, already looking the worse for wear. About 10 seconds into the first song he spun round and fell on his ear with a thud that silenced the entire room (I was sure he'd broken his neck).Eventually he got back to his feet, and then blew us away for the next two hours. It was amazing. He was a force of nature.
Do one a complete disgrace of a man

I was 15 yrs old when I left children’s homes and ended up squatting in a derelict house with a load of street guys in their 30’s and 40’s. Turns were taken to shoplift the booze. The only lights were the emergency exit lights. Someone had a record player and one 7’ vinyl record. It was the EP Poguetry in motion. His music sang the heart of the angry, the hurt and the dispossessed but always there in the background was sensitivity and Love. Thank you Shane.
Hope it turned out well for you mate, that's a rough start in life.

Indeed - and all the more poignant to think that he would survive another 19 years given how he appeared on Frank`s show. The best bit was the fact that he had one ambition and that was to patch up his relationship with Victoria. Mission accomplished Shane. RIP.

He was a really nice guy. Friend told me he had free board in pub in Dublin around this era on the condition he played 3 nights a week. Lived on white wine and cocaine. He was vulnerable in a sense as his addictions had him pinned! Rest in peace Shane

Had no idea who The Pogues were or Shane MacGowan until yesterday afternoon. Saw a clip for “Irish rover” and gave it a listen - loved. Listened to “If I should fall from grace..” couldn’t believe it (pumped the f up, don’t listen to folk or punk but was ready to go). Sad as addiction did to him, it’s simply miraculous how many people he outlived in the music industry you never thought he would especially in the 1980’s.
It would have been easy by Frank to take the piss all through the interview, but he actually asked serious questions to Shane and kept the interview enlightening

Great to see he and his soul mate Victoria Mary Clarke did get back together, and after an 11 year engagement , got married.
She has said she always felt that fate brought them together and her main role was to be his personal guardian angel. No wonder he has felt so inspired by her to write so many amazing songs (some which are clearly about his love and gratitude for her and for their love for each other)
She is literally the main reason he's still alive at 64 today.
The more recent film about his life 'Crock Of Gold - A Few Rounds With Shane' is excellent and rightly shows why he is such a legend.

Artists like this are the originals in whichever genre of music other artists derive from these people. He was an original, through and through.
Obviously he was a legend, & what he achieved with the Pogues in such an electronic decadent era as the 1980’s is testament to his originality & talents (which often got overlooked by some due to his public persona). But he was a genuinely top bloke.
In the 1970s he was at the centre of the London punk scene, & he helped get The Jam signed to the Polydor label. The major labels were all sniffing round the live venues especially after The Pistols & The Clash got signed. Polydors Chris Parry knew Shane & asked him for his opinions on which bands were worth considering, he replied that The Jam should’ve been signed-up already as they were that good….obviously they ended up selling quite a few records/cd’s for Polydor over the years (including 4 Number-1 singles)….😁

Really good-hearted guy, it seems.
I was in Dublin a few days after his passing, dancing at a pub at 2 AM with all my friends. Fairytale of New York came on, and I saw a girl a few feet away, who began to cry. It was so beautiful and perfect, it being close to Christmas and all, and smiled at the sad beauty of it all, and started to sing along, together with the whole pub. At the end of the song, or perhaps it was the song after, a girl tapped me on the shoulder; I told her that she was beautiful, which she was, and efter exchanging a few words without hearing one another, I kissed her. It was a fine night, and it's a fine song... And Dublin is a fine town, and Dubliners are fine people.
I never had a relation to the song, but I think it will be sort of special for me from here onward.
Those all too rare, magical moments in life are precious aren't they?

Shane was gracious, the interviewer was terrible "CaN yOu BeLiEvE tHeY bRoUgHt yOu wAtEr ?!....What's in YOUR glass ?! This was shameful, mocking his addiction and trying to take the piss.
RIP Shane, a true poet.
Good craic between these two. You can tell they really like each other. They were born a month apart, too, so of the same generation.
What's interesting is that his inflection is completely pissed to the point of total incoherence, but if you listen to what he's saying he seems almost sober. It's like he's gotten so good at being blackout drunk that he can switch his focus on a conversation on or off at will even if his motor skills have completely gotten away from him. Such a beautiful soul though. I've known a few drunks like him. Most of the time they're off their heads, but during moments of lucidity or drunken honesty you can elicit from them moments of absolute poetry and wisdom. I think alcohol can be medicinal in ways, it just usually doesn't stay that way. It shows you who you are when your walls come down. Some people can't access that level of sincerity sober. It's like LSD in a way. It expands your understanding of yourself. The difference is that you can be satisfied with taking acid a couple times a decade whereas alcohol use tends to compound until it implodes, goes supernova, and destroys its host (unless you're Shane Macgowan whose rock bottom seems to have a polar magnitude equivalent to that of his sense of self so it's seemingly impossible for him to ever actually get there. Repulsion. Isaac Newton, meet alcohol. Alcohol, Newton. I'm also drunk. Time to sleep.
What a great interview! Really enjoyed it.
