Sad as addiction did to him, it’s simply miraculous how many people he outlived in the music industry you never thought he would especially in the 1980’s.
Great to see he and his soul mate Victoria Mary Clarke did get back together, and after an 11 year engagement , got married. She has said she always felt that fate brought them together and her main role was to be his personal guardian angel. No wonder he has felt so inspired by her to write so many amazing songs (some which are clearly about his love and gratitude for her and for their love for each other) She is literally the main reason he's still alive at 64 today. The more recent film about his life 'Crock Of Gold - A Few Rounds With Shane' is excellent and rightly shows why he is such a legend.

Obviously he was a legend, & what he achieved with the Pogues in such an electronic decadent era as the 1980’s is testament to his originality & talents (which often got overlooked by some due to his public persona). But he was a genuinely top bloke. In the 1970s he was at the centre of the London punk scene, & he helped get The Jam signed to the Polydor label. The major labels were all sniffing round the live venues especially after The Pistols & The Clash got signed. Polydors Chris Parry knew Shane & asked him for his opinions on which bands were worth considering, he replied that The Jam should’ve been signed-up already as they were that good….obviously they ended up selling quite a few records/cd’s for Polydor over the years (including 4 Number-1 singles)….😁 Good on ya Shane, thanks for everything 👍🏼

What's interesting is that his inflection is completely pissed to the point of total incoherence, but if you listen to what he's saying he seems almost sober. It's like he's gotten so good at being blackout drunk that he can switch his focus on a conversation on or off at will even if his motor skills have completely gotten away from him. Such a beautiful soul though. I've known a few drunks like him. Most of the time they're off their heads, but during moments of lucidity or drunken honesty you can elicit from them moments of absolute poetry and wisdom. I think alcohol can be medicinal in ways, it just usually doesn't stay that way. It shows you who you are when your walls come down. Some people can't access that level of sincerity sober. It's like LSD in a way. It expands your understanding of yourself. The difference is that you can be satisfied with taking acid a couple times a decade whereas alcohol use tends to compound until it implodes, goes supernova, and destroys its host (unless you're Shane Macgowan whose rock bottom seems to have a polar magnitude equivalent to that of his sense of self so it's seemingly impossible for him to ever actually get there. Repulsion. Isaac Newton, meet alcohol. Alcohol, Newton. I'm also drunk. Time to sleep.
This is what happens if you feed your baby guiness to help it go to sleep, it's ruined his life now... he stated this in an older interview and said that's how his alcoholism started unfortunately but he doesn't blame his parents at all. I've always wished him the best despite his downfalls in life. Godbless him so much though 💖

Delighted Shane and Victoria did get back together. Rip Shane. 💕🇮🇪
One of the best song writers ever
Really ? How many were hits
@@rabgilmore4965clown 🤡, you judge a song by Charts 😂
@@rabgilmore4965most of them
@@rabgilmore4965 I don’t know what the point is of how many hits they had. When you see the amount of shit that makes it big in the charts. Never really courted fame that much, a brilliant lyricist.

This was a really great lucid interview! He's so smart and witty.

He's unique. Great that he is back with Victoria Mary Clarke. She is the one person who has kept him stable all these years. God Bless them.
Oh really? I am very happy to hear that! God bless them :)
RIP Mr. Shane MacGowan. I never was your ultimate Fan, but I hope to meet you one day.....
Don’t be daft , he’s sister didn’t drink and he lived up to the image (even though he Said he didn’t)
He was a true genius and compassionate man
Oh man that amazing laugh. Unique Shane.
When I knew he was a drunkard I laughed....when I knew he was a genius I cried. ❤
