The drill designer of this show was Greg Poklacki. He wrote all or part of the Cavaliers drill in 1991,1992, 1995, and 1996. He was Spring's designer for a few years in the early 1990's.

I was one of the drum majors during this show (and did the bass clarinet solo at the beginning of the 2nd movement). This was one of the most challenging shows Spring had ever done and executed well. Yes, not every set hit perfectly, but pretty damn close enough most of the time. Wow...pulling off Hindemith (no discernible intonation or phrasing problems, too), a DCI-level drill, and doing it 15 years ago. Congratulations, and thanks for posting this...still trying to find my socks.
We won with a 96.55, which at the time was the highest score ever given. We also won Outstanding Music and Outstanding General Effect. It'd be great to other shows on here too!

My mom preformed state finals and won with this show her sophomore year. She has a solo in colorguard. She broke her toe during prelims for state and had a 103 degree fever and mono during the performances

My brother Russell McGuire was in the pit this year, his freshman year. I was in band from 1989 to 1992, marching the bass drum in 1991 and 1992. I would love to find our Grand Nationals performance from 1991 (we totally got screwed in our sixth place finish).
Very cool show! Fast-paced drill, a bit dirty, but still awesome. And the music was incredible. Being so huge, the band has a great brass sound without being gross. Looks like they pulled off a very difficult show!
I love the double helix move that Michael Gaines put in this show. He did it here 2 years before he added it to the famous Cavaliers 1995 'Planets' show. It's right at the 3:00 minute mark.
you have to admit that the music wasn't as amazing as it could've been, but oh my god the drill is unmatchable! i wish my marching band could do that...
Also, if you're not familiar with the activity of marching bands and drum corps, I highly recommend checking out DCI(Drum Corps International) videos. They have way more amazing drill with company fronts and designs as well as music.

@Ipwnatbassforaliving It's no guarantee any band will win Grand Nats. In fact, it's no guarantee any band will win any contest at all. Don't worry so much about winning and just enjoy the music and marching and innovation. The competition is fun but don't get too caught up in it because it kills the fun. When I marched, my band never made BOA finals. Best we ever did was 14th but it was my favorite show. We were overjoyed when we made it to state. That was the accomplishment.
At the time, it was the best score ever. It has since been beaten score-wise. I haven't checked up on my BOA scores lately but if I'm not mistaken, Lassiter still holds the record with 97.55 from back in 1998. I don't have time to check all the regional score records but I think Churchill has that one from 1997 in Waco with a 97.
@TheDrumline09: you should have seen the double helix rehearsals for the first couple of months of drill. People crashing into each other and falling with scraped knees and elbows. It was.. Well.. Tragic. Lol.

Agreed with a previous post, this drill(especially 1st song) is a mess. None of the sets hit on time or in form. I have to assume the judges gave them a huge amount of credit for a hard show music wise and extremely hard drill for the time. However, I'd much rather see a crisp band with easier drill hitting sets together and in time. Being near perfection is much harder to accomplish than sloppy hard drill.
Nathon Morris To say that anything was "a mess" about this show is just absolutely ridiculous. The individual demand for each performer was insane, and I'm not alone in that thought category. Nothing is ever perfect, but the drill and music was amazing and the execution is why this program has lasted the test of time.
27+ years later and I still get chills watching it. Absolutely loved being a part of this. Some of my best memories.

TIGHT!!!! AMAZING especially for high school kids - precision drills and some pretty difficult pieces - did BOTH justice -- very very impressive

As a nitpick item, Avon HS (of IN) now has the GN score record with a 97.75 in 2008.
@TheDrumline09 The director at Spring was on the Cavaliers staff. Call this a test run to see how to write the drill and how to execute it.

Best show ever IMHO is Plymouth-Canton 99.
I don't know if I would say it is the best, however, for a show that really uses very little props this is amazing, and is certainly one of the best.
