UT Foam Sword Friday 2012 4
Foam Sword Friday is an event put on by the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture on the last day of each semester before the week of finals to provide a stress relief for students in the form of a fun activity. This is from 30 minutes before the guy was hit by the bus. He was hit on this side of the street. You can get a good look how wide the crosswalk is.

Spring High School Marching Band 1993
Переглядів 45 тис.17 років тому
The best high school marching band show ever. EVER. Spring HS, from Spring, TX. Bands of America Grand National Champions.
THE DRILL!
Hebron should pay this in 2024
Perhaps, it's just me, but why does this drill look harder than most high school drills today? Call me crazy.
You're not crazy. I'm a Marian Catholic alum (marched BOA GN 91-94) and the modern BOA aesthetic bothers me a ton, more theater than marching. Give me shows like this or (yes bias) many of Marian's, GN champs or not the drill and music pushed the edge.
@@edwardlechner1024 agreed. Modern drill books are more focused on floating around the field and lower body movement and less focused on the execution of difficult high-intensity drills like in Spring 1993 Marian 2000 or Avon 2009. I think @Mitchww might agree. This show isn't bad, but the drill is still much easier than Spring 1993: ua-cam.com/video/7Zh15KEaoXE/v-deo.htmlsi=hYOefvy3hznCFw1C
Because it is. That’s just what drill was like back then
It should have progressed. It's amazing that drill 30 years ago, looks better, is far more sophisticated, and probably more difficult than most drum corps today. This is sick
My dad won this
27+ years later and I still get chills watching it. Absolutely loved being a part of this. Some of my best memories.
sick show!
As an alum of Marian Catholic (marched 91-94 BOA), this is my favorite non-Marian show, you guys rocked it! Modern BOA is bewildering to me compared to shows like this.
My. Son was in this band, Jeremy Childers, trumpet, it still causes shivers up and down my spine to watch them perform. Well deserved National Championship.
My mom preformed state finals and won with this show her sophomore year. She has a solo in colorguard. She broke her toe during prelims for state and had a 103 degree fever and mono during the performances
Wow! That’s impressive.
Who's your mom? I was drum major for this show and I would have been just a year older. Tell your mom Corey says hi whoever she is:)
Im here from Godzilla: King of the Monsters Trailer cause I thought it sounded like DCI
Great music, and great drill Classic marching band sound
20yrs ago. Wow
TIGHT!!!! AMAZING especially for high school kids - precision drills and some pretty difficult pieces - did BOTH justice -- very very impressive
Oh the triangles. Steve Brubaker was quite the drill designer :)
Greg Poklacki wrote this drill. Steve had passed away a year before.
Thanks! I definitely prefer the single cam shot, and I'm very familiar with marching bands. This is really a great show for a high school band. Search "Bensalem Barber" to see me on tuba with Bensalem High in 1993. :) We had a great show that year, and did really well at Scranton. ;)
Also, if you're not familiar with the activity of marching bands and drum corps, I highly recommend checking out DCI(Drum Corps International) videos. They have way more amazing drill with company fronts and designs as well as music.
Thanks for watching! The solos were amplified. This video is from the hi-cam version so you can watch the drill the whole time. The multi-cam shows the soloists and pans around to different shots.
wow! well done! I'm not familiar with any of the music, or the school, but that was very entertaining and captivating all the way through. I was waiting for a company front, and it came out of nowhere in the last number. Very tight. Wondering if the solos in the beginning of the second number were amplified. Overall, amazing show!
Yes. We were amplified.
I was skeptical about it being the best Spring High marching show ever...I went to Klein Oak, and I've seen some damn good Spring High marching shows, and that was amazing. In 1993? And putting Hindemith on field? GAHHHHHH
whatever happened to the drum drill? I'm old! haha!
the drill is so 90s Cavaliers!
Triforce. lol.
@Ipwnatbassforaliving Yeah I marched in the show in Grand Nationals this year (or last year since its 2012) and we got 13th place, a point and a half away from finals. But it was still the best feeling ever after marching that show, and knowing that we're 13th in the nation.
@jkmj33 Haha. He's it's not be best. They are really, really good though. They're in my region, so we see them every year. Their football team sucks, but the band is one of the best in the state, if the not the nation.
Fantastic musical performance. Shame about the visual package. Yuck. :) Westfield 1995 kills this in all categories. (No, I'm not from TX.)
Is this considered the best high school show ever or are there others that are also legend?
@TheDrumline09 The director at Spring was on the Cavaliers staff. Call this a test run to see how to write the drill and how to execute it.
they're really good; however, there is no way this is the BEST SHOW ever. Show is about entertainment.
@Ipwnatbassforaliving It's no guarantee any band will win Grand Nats. In fact, it's no guarantee any band will win any contest at all. Don't worry so much about winning and just enjoy the music and marching and innovation. The competition is fun but don't get too caught up in it because it kills the fun. When I marched, my band never made BOA finals. Best we ever did was 14th but it was my favorite show. We were overjoyed when we made it to state. That was the accomplishment.
I'm a current member of this band, and this upcoming season we're going to Grand Nats and we're playing Symphonic Metamorphosis again. This year we placed 9th at State so I can't wait for this year!
Man, I sure do love turtles.
@TheDrumline09 I was surprised too! I thought the Cavies invented it.
@TheDrumline09: you should have seen the double helix rehearsals for the first couple of months of drill. People crashing into each other and falling with scraped knees and elbows. It was.. Well.. Tragic. Lol.
I was one of the drum majors during this show (and did the bass clarinet solo at the beginning of the 2nd movement). This was one of the most challenging shows Spring had ever done and executed well. Yes, not every set hit perfectly, but pretty damn close enough most of the time. The blood, sweat, and tears (not just a cliche, btw), that everyone put into this show and the heart to succeed was epic. Althoug very unorthodox at most times, our directors demanded the higest calibre of us (which i
this was the best show all-time for almost 30 years!!! Still amazing show. Similar design to this show, no? Gavorkna Fanfare: ua-cam.com/video/r3HkTSbkeDU/v-deo.html
It's too bad you can't hear the front ensemble on this video very well. They add so much to this piece! Still. Amazing.
6 people dislike??? they must not be in marching band or appreciate music:) amazingness:)
holy shit did they really do the double helix formation before the cavaliers 3:06
Agreed with a previous post, this drill(especially 1st song) is a mess. None of the sets hit on time or in form. I have to assume the judges gave them a huge amount of credit for a hard show music wise and extremely hard drill for the time. However, I'd much rather see a crisp band with easier drill hitting sets together and in time. Being near perfection is much harder to accomplish than sloppy hard drill.
Nathon Morris To say that anything was "a mess" about this show is just absolutely ridiculous. The individual demand for each performer was insane, and I'm not alone in that thought category. Nothing is ever perfect, but the drill and music was amazing and the execution is why this program has lasted the test of time.
4:21 Tri-Force FTW!
@TubaMaverick They won... I remember seeing this live after we performed.. it was UNREAL!
the marching is soooo clean...
this is so AWESOME!!! i have the exact same video at the exact same time from a different angle! /watch?v=sGLuZJqa2KE
aha! i knew this was you :D
wow! ive never seen the drill from this before, only heard about the DNA helix thing, but this was legit :D
@TubaMaverick 1st
Awesome drill. I loved this show!
what place were they?
Carl Trammel they won. :)
how can you watch this drill and say it's boring? If you knew the piece and composer better you would know this is not boring music
Unfortunately, its scored out of one hundred.
Wow...pulling off Hindemith (no discernible intonation or phrasing problems, too), a DCI-level drill, and doing it 15 years ago. Congratulations, and thanks for posting this...still trying to find my socks.
Hopefully Spring makes BOA finals this year(im in it btw)
ill give them a 10 amazing
