Coleman has nearly always folded like a deck chair when it really comes to the important races though. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't even make the Olympics given how strong Americans are in the track and field

@@LeonEdwardsFitnessOfficialThis early in the year the athletes are training hard, which leaves them with tired legs for races. Later in the year they will peak for the Olympics and have a lighter, faster workload.
Yeah, when I saw the interview of Coleman saying some of today's sprinters are "not that far off" (from 9.58) I figured he must be on drugs.

I think the athletes may finally be burnt out after having 2021 Tokyo Olympics, 2022 Oregon World Championships, and 2023 Budapest World Championships back to back. Historically, the season immediately following an Olympic or World Championship season tends to be slower. Training the year of a major championship is intense and takes a disproportionate tole on the body compared to non-championship seasons. Even Athing Mu talked about how she needed a break last season and questioned whether or not she would try to defend her 800m title. Seeing so many Championships back to back is unprecedented and I think its possible we may be finally seeing the results of that. However, it's still early in this Olympic season, and I'm sure coaches are pacing their athletes for the long haul, especially considering the long previous 3 years they've had. They probably want to ease them into Olympic trial and finals form.

"Not that far off" is a 9.75 in Coleman terms because Bolt put down a Flo Jo marker down that's unbreakable. That start Bolt made was his greatest ever, so to match that with his top speed, height, stride and cadence, then I don't see that record going.

I've checked and bolt ran sub around 9.75-9.80 2-3 times before his best times in 2008/2009/2012
For reference, he ran 9.72 in june for his 9.58 world record.
So yeah, if you want to get close to bolt record, you need to run sub 9.75 in the middle of season, which is already faster than anyone today at his peak
People often forgot that bolt 9.58 is not a lucky shot, he also ran 9.69/9.63, and 10+ times below 9.80
If you can't sub 9.70 you are not even in the world record discussion, a world record is something you build, nobody can come out of nowhere and break it
Doping control has been getting better, might take few years to get back 9,7 etc times
I'm predicting no one even goes under 9.8 this season. If so, it'll probably be only one or two, at 9.78 or 9.79, and probably an up-and-coming sprinter like Tebogo. I'll eat my words if I'm wrong.
You won't have to, there will be max around 3 to break 9.8. I don't even expect more than one doing it to be frankly honest with you. It won't be Tebogo though, he's insanely good but he won't do a sub 9.8 this year or I will eat my words lol. He's in shape for sure, but he won't even try enough to get it. He will focus on the 200 and the relays.

The 9.58 might as well be a parallel universe for this generation. Bolt basically ran that fast 3 times back to back at the majors
Perfectly happy if today's top guys can simply get back to running close to their 9.76 PBs against each other at some DLs/Trials/Global Champs. Don't need sub 9.7s to be entertained cos off the top of my head, with the exception of Bolt, I believe everyone else who's run sub 9.76s has served some sort of ban from a few months to a few yrs, don't want to go back to those days!

Respect to Christian Coleman but no one is breaking the G.O.A.T. Usain Bolt's record of 9.58. Not happening probably in my lifetime. No one currently in Track and Field is even in the ballpark. Forget about it.
It's hard to say if the current group of Professional Sprinters Train like Usain Bolt, Tyson Gay, Maurice Green, Asafa Powell did while competing?

When *Noah Lyles said that he’s going to run 9.41 and break Usain Bolt’s 100m WR in his career in his multiple interviews* , the whole track and field world completely supports him and cheering him on if he breaks the 100m WR.
But when *Christian Coleman said that Bolt’s 100m WR is not unattainable* in only 1 interview, TRP and the rest of the whole track and field world completely dragging him down, constantly making fun of him, constantly roasting him and crucifying him greatly on social media.

Yeah. Noah Lyles hasn't even come close to his own PBs for the last little while. Dude keeps putting up mad numbers going under 19.5 constantly in the 200, but I think he needs to stop acting like he's even close to pushing Bolt-level speed. Until he gets a top 5 time in the 100, I'm going to just sit back and wait.
One thing is to say that you'll do it in your career (you have plenty of time to improve), but something completely different is to say that today there are athletes that can achieve that. That's not true!

It's a Paris year...and thats normally a very slow year. Go back to 2003, during the WC in Paris, no one run under 10 seconds. It was the slowest winning time since 1983....
Why would it being held in Paris mean anything for all the times run during the season prior to Paris? Besides, we don’t even know anything about this year yet, it’s still April.

An sprinter can be faster and compete for long time but 9:58 seconds it’s something that you have to be born with, it’s no even an specified training to achieve it! It’s a world record for a reason! You can authorize them to use substances and I guarantee you, the vast majority will not get closer.
I understand where you are coming wanting to see faster time. As a "non-diehard", im not expecting anything fast until Olympic trials. I predict no one under 9.84 in Paris
The unknown sprinters are running faster times than the professionals. It'd take another 50 yrs before Bolt's is even matched.
Bolt really set the bar high man. But younger generations are quick to make bold statements. Honestly, the only competition where some athletes can maybe back up such claims are those running in the 200m
It’s still April. It’s not new for professionals to run slow at this time of year. The likes of Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell, Tyson Gay, and Carl Lewis never once ran a wind-legal sub 10 100m race this early in the year (before May). It is WAY too early to hit the panic button on this event for the pros. 9.58 will probably remain untouched for some time yet, but the professional 100m circuit is not broken, it just hasn’t truly begun yet.
One possibility is the testing methods are better and more stringent thus the athletes are cleaner.
It's too early to say the top sprint athletes are not in their best form. It's going to be a long season and star athletes are focused on Paris. Obviously they are still in heavy training and using these diamond league races as training runs.
Its just 12 weeks away until the 100m final in Paris, I don't buy into the long season thing at all. Bolt used to run from early April through Brussels Diamond League, thats a long season.
For sure but he makes a good point in that in both 2021 and 2022, the top three finishers were in the top ten times by this time of year. Olympics are only 3 months away. Really not that far off if you think about it since tomorrow is May
@@Aubrella11 Americans are in love with statistics, it's a national hobby. The elite Jamaican sprinters have not yet appeared in the diamond league, so how do we rate their performances? Exactly, it doesn't compute because there's no data. Statistical analysis may work in certain team sports because they are in a league, but track and field is not organised in similar style.
When Bolt got his first world record, he cruised over the line, you could see he had a lot more left as he took his foot off the gas way before the end, so you could see there was a chance of him breaking the record again! With hardly anyone breaking 10s this season in the early stages, I doubt very much it will be broken soon.
No one is beating 9.58 for a long time in my opinion.
19.19 is much more vulnerable with Noah Lyles and the upcoming youngsters Knighton and Tebogo.
Everyone is rushing .They are just getting out on the track. Week 3 in May..then you will begin to see who is who for this outdoor season. Week 2 in June it's on..Keep watching
Guys are having a hard time to run in the 9.9s and they say they are going to break Bolt record? Not gonna happen anytime soon.
9.58 is so far ahead of the current 100m runners it might as well be in a different universe. There have only been 7 times that are within 0.15 secs of the WR ever, Bolt has 3 of those, and none of those times have been run in the last 10 years. To put the current 100m runners into context only 3 have ever got within 0.2 secs of the WR.
There is no chance of the WR being under threat until we have runners who can do what Bolt did and run under 9.8 regularly (I think Bolt did so more than 10x) as did the previous WR holder Asafa Powell
They have to be able to jog a 9.90 bolt did that alot.

Multiple guys who are "not that far off"? When was the last time anyone got within 0.1s of Bolt's world record? Oh right... never. And the closest anyone who's currently competing at the top level ever got is Coleman himself and Kerley at 9.76. That's really fast, after all they are tied for 6th place all time, but that time is still 0.18s behind Bolt's WR. In the 100m dash, that's a massive gap.
It's an Olympic year, the season is 2 months longer than normal. Those guys are prolly still heavily lifting weights. I get the argument ppl are further from 9.58 than said but there's still some 9.7s possible this year.

Coleman shouldn't even be allowed to compete imo. But his statement doesn't bother me. What bothers me is the really bad sprinting results this year, and the fact that the top Jamaicans aren't even competing yet.
The legal time of the mens 100 in Paris 2024 will be slow compared to London 2012 which was the best I ever saw. I doubt the winning time will reach 9.85. Only a dream could even be close to Bolts record. At least the women are putting the medal down!

Only super fast starters have gone sub 3.78s, so saying Bolt was a poor starter is being delusional. I think Colema's fastest 30m split is 3.76s or 3.77s, so just think about it.
Its a good case study in how ignorant people saying ignorant things on social media actually start to impact self perception. Ten years ago, any sprinter in their mid to late twenties talking about cutting times by tenths of a second would be deemed certifiable. There is literally no-one alive today over the age of 15 who will get anywhere near 9.58. and i don't see anyone getting near 9.70 either.
You gotta show more love to Canadian sprinters too we got a few guys running 10.0’s and pretty sure duan assemota ran a 9.98 recently

Its not dumb at all. In fact first thing that came to my mind. WADA has told them all they have a new test for EPO and they are all running scared right now. Maybe we are seeing the 100m where it actually should be..........
They are still in training mode so to expect championship times is silly. You can see a lot are still working on form, last 10-20m, relaxing, etc. Even when I was in highschool our coach gave us aspects to work on so they can be perfect for regionals and state championships. Invitationals are great, but championships are the ones that matter. Ask Asafa Powell, Justin Gatlin, Tyson Gay, Grant Holliday, and I could go on.

4:43, noticed how you said fastest speed in legal conditions, was it THE fastest speed a human is reached in recorded history or as anyone gone faster in non legal conditions like for wind.
I know this video is not about this but cheers to Kyre King he is so solid with his 10.0 and 20 lows and confirmed his speed though last 2-3 years. I think he got something for Paris! 🧐

Doping controls are probably currently ahead of doping cheats, which is why times are slower right now.
If we look at the real history of the mens 100 meters, we see that 10 flat is actually fast
Carl Lewis, Ben Johnson, Donovon Bailey and all the past sprinters would typically race in the area of 10 flat
then the modern day came, and all of a sudden the times dropped to low 9.8 and less (Tyson Gay, Greene Gatlin et al)
Then Bolt came and dropped his own times down out of nowhere to 9.6 or so
The talent today is pretty mediocre as far as the main guys Coleman, Lyles, are not pretty runners nor are they powerful
but they have run as fast as the WR holders from the recent past, which shows you that there are faster tracks today
Lyles is almost as fast as Bolt in the 200 meters which is strange too
Then we have high school runners running 9.93 and being under 10 flat is fairly common which is strange
at the same time, the best in the world cannot break 10 by much
so it makes no sense
But overall, the WR would have to come from somebody totally new, it aint happening from this crop we have now

Now I don’t think people will break the record anytime soon, but Noah has been saying he was going to break the record for years and we didn’t get a TRP video shitting on him.
Most of the guys at that level think they can break the record, are you going to make a video about every single one of them?
Kerley has said he could, Lyle’s like I mentioned, Omanyala, now Coleman. That’s just off the top of my head.

I am not sure of the year, but didn't the false start rule change to just one and done. That might hold the runners back just a touch.
It's going to take another "different" runner like Bolt. All 100m athletes have the same build, both in Bolt's era and this era (except Bolt).
It's going to take another ,likely very tall with a long stride like Bolt, runner that appears once every 50-100 years to even come close to Bolt, that 9:58 was one of his best starts ever and Bolt's peak speed can only be reached with his build.
So unless PEDs get exponentially better than the ones that athletes currently take, we might become grandpas before we see anybody even compete with Bolt's record
Maybe it comes down to not having a GOAT to chase. Mentality is huge, you see it in all sports. You compete harder against harder oppenents.
EDIT: Only having to to hit 10secs to win, there isn't a reason to push further. The next GOAT might only be being born now. Only then the record could be challenged

The only way to break those records would be by a frame of 6'6" plus, because you can only do so much with the start. If you are under .2 seconds it's still considered a false start. There was a sprinter who's reaction time was consistently better than .10 and was disqualified everytime. Common sense tells us that a good big man beats a good little man. Even a great little man finds it difficult. Look at Allen Iverson, so many injures.

tbh i dont think theres anyone until 2030 at minimum(unless an anomoly comes screaming around the corner) that will get a 9.74 time
The women's 200 meters has had some alarmingly slow times lately.
They’re just getting warmed up. Season just started.
This doesn't concern me a ton; in 2008 no one had run sub-10 before May, in 2012 only 2 people had, in 2016 only 3 people had, 2021 an anomaly with 14 sub-10 performances before May. In 2024 only 2 people have. Peaking is typically between June to August (especially in olympic years). No need to get your knickers in a twist in April!

I wonder if Coleman was referring to himself because he is not going to get anywhere near close to 9.6 I dont even know if he will ever break 9.8 again. Only two people to who can even compete with Bolt's speed is noah lyles and probably letsile tebogo.
The 100m final in Tokyo can be won in 9.80 - 9.85... If Bolt came back and could get into 9.70s form he could "easily" win in Paris in 9.79... Don't see anyone cracking 9.80 this season... Heck 9.90 could actually medal in Paris!!!!

It wouldn’t be weird at all for 9.90 to medal at any point in the past. The only time ever that 9.90 wasn’t at least very close to medalling was in 2012. People also said in 2021 that they couldn’t see anyone running under 9.90, but then people came out of the woodworks: we had two athletes run 9.7 that year, as well as many others running 9.8, even at the Olympics.
If Fred Kerley was to focus solely the 100M then maybe we could see a 9.7 ran consistently. Coleman is a 9.8 at best...since Bolt, Gatlin, Powell and Gay retired no sprinter has consistently put down a 9.7 across the season.
With better shoes and everything today... they really need to train harder to get back on that level
