The Honda CR-V was first introduced in 1997 as their compact-recreation-vehicle, or maybe it was a comfortable runabout vehicle, and it’s been a hot selling SUV. Now the newest generation has a more rugged and handsome look. It has a longer wheelbase and wider stance than the outgoing model, but still retains its classic D-pillar taillights.
As far as power, the base CR-V now comes with a 1.5 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 190 hp / 179 lb-ft linked to a CVT, but the hybrid model not only looks sportier with a different front and rear end, it’s also more powerful with 2 electric motors paired to a 2.0L engine putting out a combined 204 hp / 247 lb-ft.
2WD model CR-Vs are estimated to get a combined 40 mpg which is pretty on par with the hybrid compact SUV segment, while the AWD models take a ding in efficiency with a combined 37 mpg which trails behind the Toyota RAV4 and Ford Escape hybrid variants with AWD.
Getting some good fuel economy in a compact SUV is always a good thing, and even for more efficiency, there’s drive modes like eco, and sport. Sport mode throttle is more responsive, and they pump in sound. Reason for that is Honda believes the driver should experience joy when driving your compact suv. There’s also the paddles behind the steering wheel which control the regenerative braking, and there’s a new "B" mode which is like a 1-pedal drive mode.
The CR-V Hybrid is now more rigid than before. The 15% stiffer body supports help for a smoother ride and improved steering feel. There’s also a new AWD system capable of distributing 50% percent of power front and back. And if that’s not enough newness for you, there’s also a newly added snow mode that smoothens throttle input even more than the Eco mode. And if you’re looking to tow, the CR-V Hybrid is now rated to tow 1,000 lbs.
Looking inside the cabin, the CR-V hybrid feels well put together. Behind the 2nd row there’s 36.3 cu.ft of cargo room, and fold down the 60/40 split seats to yield 76.5 cu.ft. There’s 8 cupholders throughout the cabin with standard rear vents to keep your backseat folks cool. Up front there’s a 7 inch gauge cluster, two spots to stow cell phones, and 2 USB ports. A 7 inch touchscreen comes standard, but our model has the available 9 inch touchscreen with wireless apple CarPlay and android auto.
The front row has an ample amount of space. The seats have a new frame for better posture and stability, and standard lumbar support. You’ll also notice the same honeycomb elements from the Honda Civic on this dash, with buttons and AC vents that give out some very satisfying clicks.
Occupants in the second row will also be happy to know there’s loads of space. With a combination of wide-opening doors, easy ingress and egress, and good legroom, the second row isn’t a bad place to be.
Keeping you and your passengers safe is the Honda sensing suite of safety features which includes forward collision mitigation, road departure warning, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control with low speed follow.
Competition for the CR-V hybrid include the aforementioned Toyota RAV4 and Ford Escape, Hyundai Tucson, and the Kia Sportage.
The 6th generation CR-V will only have 4 trims: EX, Sport, EX-L, and sport touring. EX and EX-L will give you the turbocharged 1.5 L engine, and pricing starts at $31,110 plus destination. The sport and sport touring trims starting at $32,450 will have the more powerful hybrid engine, and will include 2 rear USB ports, black alloy wheels, a sunroof, black roof rails, and sport gloss black front and rear bumpers. If you’re looking for amenities like that 9 inch touchscreen, sport leather seats, Bose premium audio system, and hands-free power tailgate, the sport touring trim starts at $38,600. AWD can be had for an extra $1,500 on all but the Sport touring trim in which it comes standard.
The CR-V has been on the road for more than 20 years and they’re everywhere, But with compelling value and fun road manners, there’s a reason for that. So if you’re looking for fuel efficiency, good tech, and a roomy interior, this may be a good option for you.

2 days ago I got my 2023 CRV Hybrid Sport AWD after literally waiting only a week and a half. It is QUIET, looks great, built tight as a drum, drives over road imperfections where you dont feel them, I am 6'3 and I have good clearance above my head, it has great take off speed, very peppy, I can put 6 suitcases in the cargo area with the back seat up which was a huge surprise! It is a smooth, comfortable ride, the engine area in front has a lot of roominess which is a surprise because most cars are packed tight in the engine area, this car is absolutely a winner!!

@@yesmikedanger You do an awesome job, Mike! I would appreciate if KBB focused more on the drive and ride quality aspects than they do. Acceleration, trans, and torque are all that are covered, when we'd love to hear detailed descriptions of road/wind noise, ride quality, steering weight. If those are ever covered, the extent is "The new Accord has a ride quality that is compliant" and... that's it. "Compliant" doesn't tell me anything. Compliant compared to what? What's your opinion on what is/isn't compliant? Does it float like a 70s Cadillac or 90s Buick? Is it as firm as an RDX or QX-50? Can you feel pitted roads or just potholes? Can you feel asphalt seams and crosswalk paint? And ditto for steering: Is it light enough that you can steer with a pinky? Or do you need to be a body-builder to turn the wheel?

Proud owner of new ’23 CRV Sport awd. Got mine in black which in my mind helps in goosing the swagger quotient here.
So far I’m quite pleased with how the car comports itself. All the touchpoints exude a solid, substantial feel. Polished ride quality. Turns on a dime in tight urban environs. Getting decent MPGs of high 30s, with even some low 40s when using a light foot and utilizing the regen braking paddles driving around town.
Really wish Honda would offer the CRV with a plugin hybrid option. Given that Honda removed the spare tire, there should be plenty of space under the cargo floor. Seems like a no-brainer to me since all the other manufacturers are moving in that direction. Come on Honda!...

@@rajatgupta4840 No not really. It's about mid-pack as far as acceleration, given that it's a reasonably priced compact family SUV with an acceptable power tradeoff given it's fuel economy. @@rajatgupta4840 Being on a test drive, you might not have put in in S mode or had the ECO button on. That mode severely dulls throttle response and it's hard to notice that it's on.
Sure, I can't change how you feel, but that's a highly anecdotal incident where the overwhelming majority of SUVs in the same price/class would behave the same way. Someone could just as easily say they bought a Tesla Y performance for not that much more, because the RDX they test drove didn't have the same instant torque and acceleration. There's always gonna be a faster car, so the argument will never end.
I have a very old VTEC stick shift honda coupe that I would absolutely rip through corners or pass cars in situations where I wouldn't try in a CRV, but I still daily the CRV because it's so roomy, comfy, and far better on gas. The CRV wouldn't be the most sold Honda if the general public felt the lack of power was such a huge compromise. It's not a sports car and comparing it to the smaller and more expensive performance-oriented RDX or turbo CX-5 is kinda silly.

Pano sunroof is just more wind noise to me personally so I don't mind it. The ventilated seats is a big miss though as is the 360 camera. I suspect all the shortages are due to the lack of supply and chip shortages. To offer the hybrid on lower trims would be make it even more frustrating to even secure one. The wait on a RAV4 hybrid is 6-9 months from what my friend told me.

In Canada comes with heated rear seats.
B drive will not work when cruise control is used.
No EV rebate for regenerative hybrids in Canada.
Has brake hold which is amazing.
Wiper arms need to be put in maintenance mode. Do not attempt to raise arms without using this mode.
Also has wiper defrost mode to ensure wipers don’t freeze to window.
All in all I’ve tried the RAV4 and yes its mileage is slightly better but the Honda sold me due to its quality and fit.

What speed? Cold? Uphill? @@sharkhark I have a hybrid myself and those factors certainly affect the MPG. Hybrids are most gas-efficient on local flat roads, warm temps (around 60-70 degrees) and speeds up to 65 mph. Saying that hills and "other crap" doesn't affect the MPG is just an ignorant comment.

    • @adambernstein9647
      @adambernstein9647 Рік тому +1

New ’23 CRV Sport (AWD) owner here. I’m certain there’s a lot of variables that account for that, Brandon. Don’t despair just yet! I live in SF Bay Area and do a lot of mixed driving in both downtown SF and the backroads of the peninsula, with some freeway thrown in. So far averaging in the upper 30s combined.
I’m realizing the best results when keeping a steady throttle and relaxing it prior to rolling to the stop lights. Using the regen braking paddle on the down hills. In those circumstances my urban, stop and go driving mileage bumps up to the low 40’s. My understanding is that the CRV’s engine has a fixed ratio gearset for the highway cruising - not a traditional CVT, and that this gearing is doing double duty when the inputs cause the engine to engage at lower speeds too, like acceleration or going uphill.
If you can resist a heavy foot on the long freeway jaunts - I’m thinking you should be able to realize better MPGs, especially as the engine continues to break in. Hope this helps!
