    After hydration and insertion the material is pretty wet, I’m worried my machine may get water inside while sewing. Do you let them dry out for a while before machine sewing?

      Most tutorials for doing these, have you putting the beads in dry. Takes longer to be able to use it, as you have to soaked the scarf for 1-2 hours first.

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  Місяць тому

      Yes, let it dry a bit or add the beads in dry.

    My sister and I are now menopausal...what better than having a few of these on the go for when those dreaded hot flushes come on!!
    Edit: also using appropriate essential oils in the water when hydrating the beads would add a little extra, I think!?

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  3 роки тому

      Great idea for hot flashes. Wish I would have thought of this when I was going through it 😂 and another great idea using essential oils!!

    Great idea! Are you using a quarter inch sewing seam? I am going through the magical menopause years. Thanks for these cooling neck clothes.

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  3 роки тому +2

      I am using a 3/8 inch seam allowance. Just use the edge of your presser foot as a guide. Wish I would have had these through my menopausal hot flashes. Lol

    how long do they stay cool and can you reuse them? do the beads get cold by putting in the freezer or cold water? anywhere to find instructions on those things? ty

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  Місяць тому

      Yes, you can reuse them. That is the beauty of them. You can also put them in the fridge, a cooler or cold water. Freezing them just make the beads break up, which really isn't an issue. ua-cam.com/users/shortsWc6I0Ank4yU

    What a great little project! Any suggestions on how to launder them?

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  3 роки тому +3

      I wouldn’t recommend laundering them. I would just soak in sink and swish around with hot water. Maybe someone else will have a great idea.

      I just wet it down under a faucet and add a small dab of Dawn dishwashing liquid. Rub it around and rinse, rinse, rinse under the faucet. This really takes care of the body oils and perspiration. Hang it on a towel bar to dry.

    What is the width of the stitch?

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  Рік тому

      There is no width. You'll use a simple straight stitch. 1/4 inch seam allowance

    This is a great tutorial however, it's dangerous to put water beads directly in the fabric, And it not encased in plastic or something else because if they were to leak out or if the bandana were to get chewed on or damaged they can cause a bowel obstruction in pets and small children when ingested. I'm going to use something else like a gel that's non-toxic and put it inside of a plastic baggie before sewing it in. Hopefully that will work

      How will the beads absorb water in a plastic baggie?
