I totally am on board with the spirit of “inattendu,” as it adds a note of interest without looking contrived. For example, I add red kitten heels to an outfit of black jeans and a black turtleneck sweater. (Maybe a red bag instead or as well.) But I still feel that there’s a very fine line between looking youthful and looking as if you tried too hard to look “young” - a very important distinction. I’ll stick to my 80/20 formula of classics/trends.
Alas, you can't get truly good posture by simply thrusting your shoulders back any more than you can buy a new belt when everything else is wrong with the outfit and saying, "I am stylishly dressed." The moment you are inattentive you will slump again. To achieve truly good posture, muscles in the spine, torso, and shoulders have to be flexible, strong and in balance, and then you will naturally stand and sit straight all the time. I'd suggest posture exercises with Miranda Esmonde-White, which in the U.S. and Canada can be found on PBS. I'm sure other countries have instructors who can intelligently address good posture too. But remember - "intelligently!" (Think of the many hunched-over athletes, products of supposedly great training programs that overdevelop some muscles while neglecting others.)
Love the video. Lots of good ideas. I just turned 50, so they are especially helpful. For shorter hair, I am not totally onboard. If one has healthy hair, and longer hair suits her face shape , there is no reason to cut it short after 50.
I agree Little Lady - sadly there are very few older women with good hair healthy enough to take longer cuts mostly it becomes thin and straggly with age. I have seen some older ladies with stunning hair 😃
@@MarieAnneLecoeur in general, you are right. My hair has been thinning out over the years. But I have noticed some Hispanic ladies having thick, lush hairs even when they are my age. It seems genetics and diet have a lot to do with hair. My hair was better when younger, but was never that great or strong.

I agree, Marie-Anne always looks much younger than her age, and shares so many clever tips. She is a wonderful teacher, and I am becoming a better student!
A personality that engages with life.Remember that line from the movie MAME to the effect that "Life is a banquet, but most people are starving to death." ENGAGE.
Those trousers with the adorable line of buttons in the pockets are to die for! I think that pixie and the new layered bob haircuts are gorgeously young and chic. Gray hair may look boring but once you get a pixie, that’s a big and incredibly flattering look. And something granny always said; “wear red lipstick and you’ll never look old”! Beautiful video Marie-Anne. Sharing right away!
A former co-worker had the best way of getting people to view her as younger, and it does not cost a thing. She would tell people she is older than her actual age by about 10 to 15yrs. 😉
I used to wear lots of bright colors before, but after starting to watch your channel I realized that with neutrals you can have fewer and simpler higher quality pieces that all go well together. I'm still in awe of this simplicity, which is very new for me. Maybe when my sense of style gets better I will incorporate more colors again and be bolder, but I'm a bit afraid of making styling mistakes with my lack of experience. Scarves are my passion though, and affordable enough to get them in all colors, so I have plenty :D P.S. By the way, these colors, accessories, and hairstyle look absolutely fantastic on you! 😍
I love your idea of contrasting the striped trousers with a feminine shoe and I prefer the brown sunglasses. I would not choose those belts, but love the pink and orange handbags. I'm 67 and not ready to go grey yet, but I see some women and they look fabulous. Thanks for being so enthusiastic in your presentations.
Love your channel. I'm not searching to look younger, just to be elegant at 70. The issue is, that if you are an older lady, your hands, face, arms, knees and neck will show your age whatever you wear. Be proud to be old. I had a party today with my 94 year old father and 90 year old mother. They aren't worried about looking old, they enjoy life to the full. Sorry, but there's nothing more ageing with wearing a leather jacket in your sixties/seventies. It screams, I am trying to look younger.
My mother lived to the great age of 106. She wore quiet conservative skirts and tops and didnt care too much about fashion. But she always wore stockings and foundation garments and I think it gave her a secret confidence about what was underneath her clothes😊she also had her hair set into big voluminous curls every week right up until her dementia meant she couldnt cope at the hairdressers, and that was a great shame as she then looked much older and unkempt.
Scarves are perfect. When looking for inspiration to look forward to dressing either for an everyday occasion or one that happens less often, I agree, accessories are what sets the look apart.
I love the way you make your videos fun - inspiring and full of ideas, but also the way you present them is so excellent and you always give such good advice.
Sorry I haven't been able to watch your content lately, Marie-Anne. Your advice is spot on and I agree with you. Always love your humour and enthusiasm ❤💯
This was very fun! When you do videos like this, it causes me to look at what I have in my wardrobe in a different light and think about putting unique things together! Thank you! 😍- Michelle
That is wonderful Michelle and everything that I hope my channel will do for ladies 🤗 Love your Airstream - if I was going to have a caravan it would have to be in an Airstream ❤️ They are so lovely. You must have the most capsule of capsule wardrobes 😃
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Yes, my wardrobe is very capsule!! We actually did a video on me packing our clothes into the RV! My husband and I both seriously downsized our wardrobes to fit in less than 200 sq. ft. 😆We live in our Airstream full time, and we refused to put anything in paid storage. What we have with us, is everything we own. It is very freeing. 😍 - Michelle
Marie Anne, I watched this video twice because you made fashion fun and I earned some new ways to incorporate some of these ideas into my dress!! Thanks and stay well ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have been following you for about 2 months now, and I absolutely love your style and your advice. I am a woman over 50, and I have loved fashion all my life. But one thing perplexes me: when you wear red and pink in the same outfit. I have always known that it was a NON , never ever together, it’s a punch in the eye! Just like red and fuchsia , red an orange, red and purple. And I totally agree with that. But I am indeed surprised that you put them together.
I have been following you for several months . I am a woman that friends come to hrlp them decide what looks good on them, what to toss from their closets, what to buy etc. I have learned SO much from your videos!!! You teach in a positive, informative way. I realized with your help what I was missing in the choices I had in my own wardrobe. I bit the bullet and tried everything, and I do nean everything on and decided what to edit out. Clothes that were "ok" but never wuite right. Clothes from a life I was no longer living. Clothes that didn't really go with anything. I adopted your mantra " if it is not a wow it's a non" and applied it to every new purchase, etc. I continue to learn from your videos and feel you are doing such a great service to your followers stressing quality, fit, fun, and confidence to live our best lives. Brava!
Red and pink do go very well together, because on the colour wheel they are analogous colours: they are similar. Maybe a good strategy is to pair bright red with a pale pink, rather than fuchsia.
Silk scarves are probably my favorite accessory category. I’ve worn them for 40 years with some outfits, emulating some beautiful French colleagues I knew early in my career. A very young person recently told me “they’re out of style” and I’m sure that’s true for her age group. But, in my opinion, if many French women are wearing them, they’re still in style. They are classic! Plus, I can’t wear a wool or cashmere sweater without one to protect my hyper-sensitive neck skin, so I would wear them anyway.
Great tips. This is why I no longer wear my very traditional strand of (fake) pearls. These look great on 20-year olds, but on me, age 64, they just make me look like I’ve worn the same thing since 1985, when I bought these! I think it also helps to wear up-to-the-minute footwear styles and colors - this is one of my favorite ways to update my outfits. I do save my good leather footwear forever, but the styles cycle back in. Both my suede slouchy boots and my chunky black leather ankle boots look like I just bought them, but they’re decades old. Sometimes the new, trendy, styles look a bit different, so it doesn’t work with all, but it does work with many styles. Classic Lady Jackets, for one.
Twist your pearls and a pretty scarf together, then hang them around your neck, wrap them like a choker around your neck, wrap them around your wrist as an armband, around your waist as a belt if you have a tiny waist, around your head as a headband, or around the handle of your purse. Any of those sound like fun to try?
The trend right now is multiple chains of varying lengths. I have a strand of Mikimoto cultured pearls that I layer in with gold chains. I think it looks youthful.
@ Kimberley: you can turn the pearl necklet into a bracelet, if it‘s long enough, sling it around twice or more times, if not, buy transparent elastic bands (they are cheap bands threaded on bobbins with a small diametre) and thread your pearls on. Can also be done with stone necklets like turquoise etc. When you use real pearls, make sure you tie a little knot now and again and they won‘t fall off all when the band breaks
Love love love this video ❤️ you are spot on, my long hair has been cut short, which I love, I have the pink bag, yes on the scarfs and I will be looking for new belts!!! Thank you so much❤️❤️❤️
Bonjour Marie-Anne, You've given so many ways to add some "peps" to my outfits. Love the bright belt idea. And polka dots - my favourite print! I don't have one, but will keep my eyes open as I'm out and about. I like to focus on the idea of looking modern rather than younger. Classic pieces with a few trendy pieces thrown in works for me. I like the brown sunglasses much better than the green ones, but sunglasses are a great way to add some whimsy and fun to a wardrobe. Your energetic presenting style is always an inspiration. Merci mille fois!
Great to feel your enthusiasm through your broadcasts, it's inspiring and the tips you give are achievable and make such a difference to an outfit. It takes an expert eye and experience to communicate the upgrades these small things make to an outfit!!!
You have lots of great ideas, Marie-Anne! I especially loved the red tweed jacket, striped trousers, and leather jacket. I think a touch of whimsy is good as well. I have a dachshund-patterned scarf in navy and shire which I plan to wear with navy pants or dark wash jeans, dressy white t-shirt, simple metallic sandals, and a beautiful red handbag. You’ve given me even more great ideas here. I’m working on shopping my closet more. Have you done a video about that? That would be amazing!
Bonjour Humama - I am very glad you enjoy my suggestions 😃 Whimsy is good as it shows your personality 👍 about shopping your closet see any of my how to style videos where I go around my studio/closet making up outfits 😘
Youthful enthusiasm in our style makes us 'seem' younger but not really looking younger than we are. Just more 'youthful', energetic. I'm finding that what worked at 50 and 60 no longer works at 70+. A Chanel style jacket makes me look dated now (old). Looking 'dated' is very bad. I have a pearl bracelet similar to yours but it doesn't have the same effect as it did at 60. I think you will understand what I mean in about 10 years.😅 I was lucky to find a very long vintage trench coat a few months ago at a consignment shop. It's fabulous. I love the green one you have and almost bought it last year until I saw that it has to be hand washed. So, I am working on finding what works better for me now at 70+ and getting rid of things that haven't made me seem as youthful as they did 10 years ago. I bought a statement belt a couple of months ago. An edgy, contemporary haircut works well for me. I just wanted to point out for women my age, we can't assume that what works for women 50-60 will work for us---but for some reason we are grouped with them in the 'over 50' advice.
Yes !!! Exactly. I am also over seventy and some of my classic jackets ( chanel style, blazer ) now also make me look and feel older. I love them but find I'm putting them on and immediately taking them off again. 😞 It is getting harder to find cloths that are modern without making us look frumpy 😂😂
Good afternoon Maire-Anne! I appreciate all of your advice on looking youthful. Love your green trench coat! Would you consider doing a video highlighting it and the various colors to wear with the green color? Thank you! 🌞💕
Hello Marie-Anne that blue belt was gorgeous looked really good. I'm not ready to go grey yet either I'm 61 in October Your hair colour is nice and suits you. Another informative video thank you xx
My favorites are the polkadot scarf with your red and navy outfit, and your pearl bracelet. 😊 I do have a pink bag, I got it to take on my honeymoon. I haven't used it in ages, but I smile when I see it on my closet shelf. 😅
I just want to share how your channel has inspired me. My uniform when I was working was pretty dull with work suits and then after motherhood I fell into the jogging pants and hoodies. But ever since I came across your videos I've started going through my closet and thinking more about my outfits. It didn't seem important (as compared to real life issues) but then I remind myself not to fall in that trap because looking good improves our mood and I'm reminded of that every time I take the time to look presentable. Speaking of, I had an interview recently and rather than turn to a predictable blazer, I decided to pair a blouse with a pretty knit sweater (both in navy) and a pair of dark brown slacks instead of the usual black I often wear and went with cream colored ballet flats. I don't think I would have put these items together if not for your influence. The job was at a school (not corporate setting) and it seemed appropriate while still appearing polished. Thanks for sharing your passion with us. Your spirit and attitude regarding trying to look our very best is infectious and I feel inspired to shop wisely and also enjoy my existing closet!
I like the orange bag- beautiful. Not crazy about the pink with the bright red. I agree that a lot of accessories you can wear at age 60 are a lot trickier 8- 10 years later. I find this with scarves as I used to love them, but now I often think that they age me.
I love the playing with the contrasts. Especially the black leather jacket with the white lace. And the idea with the feminin shoes and masculin looking trousers. Going to look for something like that. :-).
Bonjour, Marie-Anne. I found your videos by chance. “ Over 50 and how not to look frumpy” LOL I learned a lot. Your personality and fashion style- a lot of fun. Thank you. Anna from Pennsylvania, USA.
Really enjoy your videos. You have reminded me of some classics in my wardrobe, that I almost forgot I have, that will work better than the fleece and/down jackets I have been wearing. Just want to point out that that jacket is plaid. I think it is nicely town and country. Some rules were made to be broken.
All rules are made to be broken ... or at least bent out of shape Wendy 😃 follow them to get you started and then throw out the rule book when your confidence gets so that you can wear anything 😘
Bonsoir Marie-Anne I’m considering a fuchsia monochrome outfit🫣The top is a sweater so I will have to wait until autumn 🍂 You’re giving me the courage to try it!
That tweed coat is fantastic. I have a turquoise silver southwest belt that has been in my closet too long. I'm wearing it the next time I travel to France because it will be a surprise sight, and completely out there. I'm from the west so it's my wheelhouse 😂
There was only ONE good thing about COVID for me, and that was because I was stuck working from home for three years. I stopped coloring my hair (salons were closed and my box jobs weren't doing the job). It was the perfect time to go grey. And it came out a beautiful silver/white. Now people (women, not men, lol) stop me in stores and tell me how much they like the color of my hair.
I love style and my goal is to look my absolute best each day. That said, exercise makes one look and FEEL younger, and clothing becomes more flattering on the body. Workouts need not be heart attack inducing, 30 minutes or so four to five times a week, to include proper stretching, strength training and HIIT. A daily 20-30 minute walk helps too. Mindfulness when eating is also important and proper hydration. None of the above is groundbreaking information, but sometimes the common sense stuff bears repeating. 😍💙💛
Marie Anne thank you for modeling your suggestions. I loved you in the second set of glasses, not so much the green. I also really like the pop of color with a contrast bag. And the shoes with the pinstripe pants. Masculine/feminine contrast is really fun for me. Belts: I have one from Peru with embroidered flowers which looks stunning when I wear it with all black: it’s yellow and pink and red. Fun. Thank you for the tips!
Right now I realize the all red outfits are so attractive, or a tweed jacket with a black turtleneck or a coat in red. I'm looking for the right biker jacket, hope I find it soon. Great video.
Stunning belts, Marie Anne!! Where can I get something similar? Loving your red top too. I bought a really lovely camel coloured trench coat recently, looks stunning. I'll be wearing it with leather boots.❤
Loved your video. Yes, I need some new ideas to make me a little more modern and edgy. I would definitely wear the blue belt. Monochrome is an excellent an idea! As for the most flattering haircut - you have to take hair texture into consideration. Straight hair might be harder to curl without a ton of hair products. I don't want to shampoo my hair everyday. Imho, the plaid blazer is a no. Love the color combo though.
You're adorable and have great ideas! Thanks so much ..I loved you in the first pair of sunnies...the scarves, and purses were nice and fun!! Stay well 💘
Hello, from Perth, Western Australia. The pink handbag shown at 6:35 minutes is so beautiful. Could you please tell us the brand. Love your site. Enjoy your knowledge and humour immensely. Xx
Ii dress in monochrome often. Or mono with a silk scarf and shoes that coordinate with a color in the scarf. I never wear belts but i like your bright ones.
Hello, Marie-Anne. I want to hire you to re-do my wardrobe. I'm 65, just retired from my job, and want to update my look. I need to watch all your videos! I'll be visiting France next year and don't want to be frumpy.

Great to feel your enthusiasm through your broadcasts, it's inspiring and the tips you give are achievable and make such a difference to an outfit. It takes an expert eye and experience to communicate the upgrades these small things make to an outfit!!!
Merci 🤗
The red and navy scarf was perfect with what you were wearing! Love the polka dots too 😊
❤️💙
I am slowly declutering my wardrobe and buying new clothes which elevate clothes I already have got. Thank you M.A. for all your advice!
You are very welcome Marketa x
It is getting harder to find cloths that are modern without making us look frumpy 😂😂
It could be what you are pairing then with Bay Dreamer - I feel a video coming on 😃
Totally agree!
Also silk scarves can be tricky over 70
I agree. Going more casual with a bit of edge is much better than classic jackets, shoes and pearls. At some stage they start to make us older.
Good afternoon Maire-Anne! I appreciate all of your advice on looking youthful. Love your green trench coat! Would you consider doing a video highlighting it and the various colors to wear with the green color? Thank you! 🌞💕
It has figured in quite a few f my videos Kathy but I will see what I can do come the autumn x
You are a breath of french air dear Marie- Anne. Always a pleasure to listen to you, with your fab videos. 👍🤗🫖☕
🤗
Marie-Ann, you are so elegant and fun! I appreciate your amazing tips!
Merci Dana x
Hello Marie-Anne that blue belt was gorgeous looked really good. I'm not ready to go grey yet either I'm 61 in October Your hair colour is nice and suits you. Another informative video thank you xx
Glad you enjoyed it Jacqui x
Your green long trench coat is a WOW! I own a similar one. It is a wonderful statement piece, you look so elegant and modern 💚
💚
My favorites are the polkadot scarf with your red and navy outfit, and your pearl bracelet. 😊 I do have a pink bag, I got it to take on my honeymoon. I haven't used it in ages, but I smile when I see it on my closet shelf. 😅
It is lovely to have pieces that always make you smile 😃
Thank you so much for your very kind words 🙏 I hope you get the position 😘
I like the orange bag- beautiful. Not crazy about the pink with the bright red. I agree that a lot of accessories you can wear at age 60 are a lot trickier 8- 10 years later. I find this with scarves as I used to love them, but now I often think that they age me.
Style is a journey Maureen - we never stop changing 🙏
I love your enthusiasm!
I love the playing with the contrasts. Especially the black leather jacket with the white lace. And the idea with the feminin shoes and masculin looking trousers. Going to look for something like that. :-).
Let me know how you get on Heidi 😃
Looking great Marie-Anne - that is one of your best haircuts yet
🤗
Sorry I think your hair is too dark and short. I would love to see you with longer lighter hair
Great tips Marie-Anne. I did love the first two belts. I have never seen anything like them before. Thank you x
😘
Bonjour, Marie-Anne. I found your videos by chance. “ Over 50 and how not to look frumpy” LOL I learned a lot. Your personality and fashion style- a lot of fun. Thank you. Anna from Pennsylvania, USA.
You are very welcome Anna and a Big French Chic Welcome to you 🤗
Thank you for the inspiration! Great ideas for restyling! and so well presented, love your videos
I am glad you enjoy them Monika x
That is wonderful Vpower 😃 just make sure you try the French Chic colour test here ua-cam.com/video/cetbMp2bhfw/v-deo.html 😘
Will do!
Red looks good on you!
Coloured belts look amazing. I think I'll go shopping 🛍 🎉
😃😘 mine were from www.mareine.fr
@@MarieAnneLecoeur thanks MarieAnne🥰
Aim to make a statement. I'm gonna start living that rule
😃👍
That tweed coat is fantastic. I have a turquoise silver southwest belt that has been in my closet too long. I'm wearing it the next time I travel to France because it will be a surprise sight, and completely out there. I'm from the west so it's my wheelhouse 😂
I am glad you like it Etta x
There was only ONE good thing about COVID for me, and that was because I was stuck working from home for three years. I stopped coloring my hair (salons were closed and my box jobs weren't doing the job). It was the perfect time to go grey. And it came out a beautiful silver/white. Now people (women, not men, lol) stop me in stores and tell me how much they like the color of my hair.
That is wonderful 😃
I love your mood. It is fun and frech
Thank you😊🎉
Merci 😘
Your hair color looks lovely it makes you look fresh
Merci Laura x
The D&G sunglasses are best.
They are gorgeous Gail 😃
i enjoyed that, gave me some more ideas.....
🙌
The belts are GRAND, especially the red belt!!! Wonderful!!! Thank you so much!! Super Tips!!
Marie, You look amazing with the black glasses, trench coat, and red tweed blazer. Great video!!!. Greetings from U.S.A. Merci.
Merci Beatriz x
I would prefer the brown Dolce and Gabbana glasses.
Remind me of Jackie O.
Great goals Carol 😃 to se what I do to stay fit and trim at 60 watch here ua-cam.com/video/Zo2iDxJUz3s/v-deo.html
I just bought a gorgeous metallic handbag from Amazon.
You are very welcome Vivien x
Accessories are such fun
They are indeed Shannon 😃
Many thanks Marie Anne, Impressive!
😘
Najlepsza na swiecie❤❤❤❤❤❤
🤗
Right now I realize the all red outfits are so attractive, or a tweed jacket with a black turtleneck or a coat in red. I'm looking for the right biker jacket, hope I find it soon. Great video.
😘
You got me thinking for sure, about the accessories
That is wonderful Louise x
Stunning belts, Marie Anne!! Where can I get something similar?
Loving your red top too.
I bought a really lovely camel coloured trench coat recently, looks stunning. I'll be wearing it with leather boots.❤
you can see then at www.mareine.fr 😃
Can you do more on the colour wheel please?
I have made a number of videos on colour Samantha I hope you get a chance to watch them 😘
You can never go wrong with polka dots!
Great video ty
You are very welcome Patricia x
Love all of your suggestions - belts, bags, scarves and hair. Wish you’d worn a neutral coloured top for these fab accessory ideas though.
Marianne, you look fabulous!
🤗
My dear... you look fabulous always. Love love love your styles.
Merci Eve x
You're adorable and have great ideas! Thanks so much ..I loved you in the first pair of sunnies...the scarves, and purses were nice and fun!! Stay well 💘

Couldn’t choose just one, sorry Marie-Anne ❤❤❤
🤗
OMG I bought a red blazer and a pink one and finally got a long trench!!! I love listening to you and taking your advice ❤️❤️❤️
🤗
Ii dress in monochrome often. Or mono with a silk scarf and shoes that coordinate with a color in the scarf.
I never wear belts but i like your bright ones.
I think the blue belt looked great
💙
Hello, Marie-Anne. I want to hire you to re-do my wardrobe. I'm 65, just retired from my job, and want to update my look. I need to watch all your videos! I'll be visiting France next year and don't want to be frumpy.
Bonjour Lesley - I can do that look here www.marieannelecoeur.com/declutter-consult.html 😃
The red Chanel-style jacket looks fantastic on you! It really stood out. And I love the tweed jacket, would totally wear that!
❤️
I have several sunglasses in different colors, none of them black (that's not my color).I get compliments all the time.
Lovely belts. And your red Chanel style jacket is to die for. Très chic ❤

I fell in love with the pinkish bag with the matching sling-backs that you didn't show us 🤩
The bag is from www.mareine.fr and the shoes by Jonak Klara x
