Let us know in the comments, why do you think Eddie never competed?
Because his grip wasn’t good enough. After 2016 he lost a lot of function in his right hand, so holding a 400kg deadlift is out of the question.
His goal was the WSM title and achieving it took a heavy toll on his body, fucked his hip & bicep up
Why did you delete the last video about light weight benchers
@@hg_10sm68 wtf you say haahahahaha
The first squat is 750 pounds not 800
Imagine a fully hydrated Eddie Hall.
Savage lifter he could be
now you're just being silly. no such thing as a hydrated eddie hall.
It’s unimaginable
He coulda done 500kg for reps
Imagine a full head of hair Brian Shaw
Eddie also has potential to be the best power farter too
try naming one who's better than him at that.
Yeah, he already is the best farter
That's the point. His farts are so powerful they actually lift him off the ground.
Nah Bro Markus Rühl is unbeatable when it comes to farting ^^
Hahahahhhahhahah
@@RTHpriest fart in a bottle from terraria moment
Powerlifters: "But muh grip"
Eddie: *Pinch Grips 2 deep dish 45's*
Don't think there is a single powerlifter that can do that anyway lol
Anyone claiming Strongman do straps because they have bad grip is mentally ill. Grip is their bread and butter.
@Steven Criscione What do you mean you have trained nothing but grip strength?
@@nonachyourbusiness1164 he trained nothing but grip strength his whole life I assume
@@maandlifting5877 Thanks man, I was lost there
It is my firm belief, that at his prime (between roughly the beginning of 2016 and when he won worlds in 2017) Eddie was the statically strongest person in history. We've seen better movers, better all around athletes, guys who were more well rounded, but as far as the big 3 static lifts (as well as strict overhead pressing power) I don't if we've ever seen anyone greater.
Larry Wheels is despite weighing half
@@naif8493 not even a competition lol. I am a big fan of Larry, and I know very well what he has achieved. But let's be honest, Larry will never match prime Eddie, no way
no thor. taller, heavier, still stronger.
@old man strength Jen's best bench at -132 bodyweight is 301 lb her other benches up to 320 lb were done heavier at a bodyweight of 138-142 lb. There are a few women who have done more or as much at lighter bodyweights, so better pound-for pound lifts, including Fatma Omar who benched 315 at -123 lb, and Esther Oyema who benched 311 at -105 lb. And that's just the women.
As far as men are concerned the pound for pound bench is even more pronounced with lifters like Sherif Othman benching 457 lb at -123 lb bodyweight and Roland Ezuruike benching 441 lb at -114 lb bodyweight. (That's nearly a 4x times bodyweight bench).
That said I'm not talking about bench only here or about pound for pound, when I say "statically strongest" I'm talking about a powerlifting total, all 3 disciplines, and the biggest total ever.
As for the arguments about Thor certainly he and Eddy would be close strength wise in squat and deadlift, but Eddie at his peak was benching nearly 200 lb more than Thor at his biggest...
@@psychologienerd7546 well if he was stronger surley he wouldve won 2017
I think he was even more suited for powerlifting. I have no doubt, he could have achieved that record total.
Eddie Hall was a strongman a sport where grip is more important than powerliftering. Just because straps are used in one event doesn't mean grip is not important. Farmers, stones, rocks, sandbags, kegs, Hercules hold, deadlift hold all require grip
like hercules hold is litterally grip based
I'm pretty sure straps are allowed in Strongman. At least in the deadlift.
@@TriggerStand you misunderstood, Conner meant that even if straps are allowed in deadlift, it doesn't mean that grip is not important in strongman
So true, I'm at 80kgs deadlift and my legs and back can do more but my grip is too weak. I'm doing lots of farmer walks do increase grip strength.
GOAT of powerlifting and didn’t even put up a total 😂😂
Curmudgeon Lol WSM 2017 squat for reps is not an indication of a prime Thor’s 1RM in squat. Bear in mind he squatted 460kg, walked out, with 4 weeks of prep. He was injured (quad tear) & weaker in 2017
Thor would beat him on everything, apart from possibly bench, if he was looking to do it that is his weakness, so that will be the lift he concentrates on improving. Remember Ed's retired now, l think Thor has done enough to surpass his static strength now, quite easily
Ed Coan is the goat unless someone does more than what he did in the sport
@@lordlycan5035 "possibly bench" LOL Eddie pause reps 265 for 8, Thor's best bench is 250 for 1. Eddie can outlift him with 50-60 kg easily.
@@lordlycan5035
Why is everyone saying Thor his bench is weak? Is it really that bad compared to others? Because I have never seen anyone doing those heavy dumbell presses as easy as thor does without anyone handing it over.
The GOAT of static strength for sure
yes
He is built for powerlifting more than strongman imo.
No in my opinion both
Even if thor practiced for powerlifting he would have got the world record
Both Eddie and Thor are great strongmen
@@madprbros4425 he did a powerlifting meet and does not have the world record. Eddie is 6'3 with short arms nad legs nad a longer torso, this build is objectively better for powerlifting where a load is moved statically with a barbell.
@@madprbros4425 it’s not a matter of opinion, but rather his build of his body
Eddie is tall, but not as tall as guys like Tom Stoltman, Shaw, or Bjornsson. Height is a massive advantage almost all of the time in strongman.
@@juliawilliams1355 Pretty sure Thor only trained for a few months and totalled 1100 and that was with a redlighted 460 which could have passed and looked super easy. With a couple years of powerlifting-only training, I think he could have put up a lot more in the squat and maybe the bench, and his grip on the deadlift would have improved as well. If we make some conservative assumptions that he would hit 270 bench, 480 squat, 420 deadlift, he's already at 1170
Thor was a freak but I agree Eddie had a better powerlifting build, I think Lifting Vault is also giving conservative estimates in the video, I think Eddie could have squatted 450-480, benched 300-315 and deadlifted 430-440, so at worst, a 1180 total and at most my estimate gives well over 1200
Butthurt powerlifters everywhere talkinh about his grip strength
It's the truth tho, he self admitted that he tore a muscle in his hand reducing his grip strength.
While I think he is the greatest dead lifter ever, I don't think a mixed grip would give him a great deadlift
Malsawmtluanga Hmar it’s not butthurt, but what’s the most you seen Eddie pull with out straps
@@user-qf2gu4zl5s it could just be preference. To be a great strongman you need incredible grip strength.
@@user-qf2gu4zl5s he never needed to pull without straps so why would he? There's no reason why he would bother with a raw deadlift in training considering he likely did grip specific work for that.
He gripped 2 45 pound yorks on world's strongest man LMFAO he has better grip than 99% of power lifters.
Imagine Eddie in a fully equipped comp
U mean equipped lifting?
He'd squat AND deadlift 500kgs. Bench mid 600 lbs maybe. Sorry don't knkw the kilos
Joseph Fahey he wouldn’t deadlift 500 in comp. not after he already squatted and benched. And he can’t go into that mindset again
@@macsmitty1171 Well you have as much of a clue as i do. Quit it with the "mindset" bullshit. It's called getting hyped for a lift and everyone does it.
@@joemfahey lol I bet you've never competed right? Lol if you think he can pull 500kg squat and deadlift on the same day.
Wild to see just how whippy that bar is with 800lbs flying around on it
The bars he was using were 8ft bars at 25kg, he says he prefers using the longer bar because it activates more stabilisation muscles thus in theory would make pulling or pressing on a stiffer bar easier
Prime Hall has the same physique as Kingpin in the Marvel comic books.
Eddie doesn’t like heavy squats while doing 800 for reps
Cause that was actually lightweight for him
Imagine saying Eddie Hall has poor grip strenght
Legend says dehydrated Eddie lift 500 kg imagine when his hydrated.
Eddie was a static monster
As a hypothetical discussion, these estimations seem pretty reasonable. Squat I think can be 450-460kg and bench maybe add 5-10kg. And you have to think to say he was to focus on a powerlifting comp, the training would be very specific. He would attack weaknesses like grip (might train mix grip) and hitching. Cool Vid.
Mixed hook grip is the way to go
@@KaokashinPlays it's definitely the way to go if you want to rip your bicep off. Best is to just learn regular hook grip
Erik Van der Zee yea in second thought he probably won’t do mix grip. He might lose weight in this scenario to get some fat off his hands. So then he could do normal grip.
@@MajesticSkywhale you wont tear your bicep if you do it right. As long as you dont flex your bicep while pulling it wont tear.
@@None-zv2qk true in principle, but good luck focusing on that at 1000lbs if you're not Benni
I don't know exactly where he would rank - but 2016-17 Eddie hall is absolutely in discussion for best all time static strength.
Obviously he’s the strongest static human to ever live
I wonder if Eddie has seen this video. Would be curious to see what he makes of this
loving the background music
More videos like these please!
Bro imagine doing 805 for 8 reps 😭
There already is a GOAT in powerlifting and his name indeed is Eddie: Eddie Coan. Maybe not undisputed entirely, but recognised as such and respected all around.
Peak Eddie Hall would have smashed him out of the park if he wanted to.
You mean John "Eddie" Haack?
@@gitsurfer27 of course. but its more due to the fact that eddie was about 80kgs heavier. stupid comparison
@@creativemod When you get into the heavyweights its no longer about bodyweight, its about who can lift the most regardless of what the bathroom scales say. Eddie was the GOAT.
@@gitsurfer27 thats true. However Ed Coan was not a heavyweight. I believe he used to be somewhere around the 220lb weight class
The thumbnail is great
Also with Eddie hall for his bench and squat he used a 8ft wobbly bar which made it harder
What a nice relaxing music.
Keep in mind that Hafthor´s best raw deadlift without straps "only" is 410 kg.
And Eddie's is 360kg I believe.🤔
Soo🙄😬😬
A lot of these comments are severely underestimating the grip and fatigue factors of a full PL comp
@@Dr_Footbrake yep a pl competition can be about 6-8 hours long
@@Dr_Footbrake lol
compare that to strongman
@@bobmartin8933 I hope you're not implying that pulling without straps after 3 x >90% squats and benches is easier than fresh with straps in training.
Eddie Hall is the real life version of Zangeif from Street Fighters.
eddie ma boi 💪🔥
i really like the way you used to come up with the estimates, i would however argue that had he trained specially for powerlifting he could have easily deadlifted 450kg for a valid and good lift. the man did 460 for a speedrep (yeah, with straps, we all know) that looked like an empty bar. however, its all just words and my claim is an easy one to make since it can never be backed up nor can it be disproven. i think eddie did the right thing going for a WSM title.
it doesnt matter how strong your back is if you cant hold on to the bar. Thor failed a 430 dl because of his grip and at that stage he was easily capable of 470 with straps
you don't get it, do you? had he trained for powerlifting he would have included grip strength into his usual routine. he never had to train grip because he chose strongman as a career.
@@DennisGr Even if he trained grip I it doesn't guaratee he could hold onto the bar (see Blaine Sumner). Honestly think he'd struggle to pull 400kg in a 3 lift meet, particularly if he's going to be squatting around 450kg
@@Dr_Footbrake This grip issue is nonsense, strongman have events that test grip 2x as hard any powerlifting deadlift would ever. There is not even one powerlifter who could carry a 400kg thicker handle frame up a ramp.
There’s a video of Ed doing 420kg x 4 reps beltless on his Facebook page from 2016, definitely his best set of deadlifts.
I'm pretty sure he was wearing a suit for that
Lifting Vault could have been! Hard to tell, he deffo lifted 420kg for a triple without a suit and belt , so not out of the realms of possibility that he could have done it for 4!
Lifting Vault if it was an old vid most people seem to agree that the old suits didn’t add much if anything to your total
@@xinsanedefeatx Suits haven't changed much since the mid-2000s. You're thinking of the old squat/deadlift suits from the 90s
Prime Eddie Hall vs Prime Krzysztof Radzikowski in powerlifting would have been interesting to watch
Good that you mentioned Radzikowski! In his prime he was stongest bencher in strongman, also squat close to 420 (or more?) and deadlift raw probably 400
Greatest STATIC lifter ever
Stay hydrated folks!
YES
Hydrated Eddie hall as a powerlifter
hes insane at the viking hold too which is grip strenght im telling you grip wouldnt be a issue
I know that legpress is easier then a squat but it is still impressive that he did a 1000kg press
Bench Goat is Julius Maddox
Strongest bench yes, but not the Goat bench
Thor Odinson what do you mean bullshit? Literally any powerlifting meet is measured by wilks, Maddox has the strongest bench but not the most impressive one.
@@avanchels3662 Maddox is by far the best bencher of all time. I don’t care if some 60kg lifter has a better Wilks. Julius is benching almost 800lbs.
you forgot to factor in that eddie benches with an 8ft bar he said to work stabilizers more. i dont remember where he said it, but it was in a brian shaw video with nick best
Grip is massive part, like Thor he pulled 410 and failed 430 in a comp last year, people was saying Eddie could pull 470 without straps is silly, he can’t be the goat as he have never done a comp
I´ll put his DL at around 400; as of today we know Thor is a better Deadlifter than Eddie was (not smacking on him, i can´t stretch how much more weight he lifts than me) and his grip failed him at 430 though he has trained that grip more than Eddie has ever done, also his grip failed him on events before. We know as a matter of fact that Eddie can pull way over 400 but in a PL comp that seems like a reasonable number for me
I think Benny pulled 460 raw
@@antoniocenteno1483 in straps thor is better, but i think totally raw when you need to use grip strenght hall would pull more
Antonio Centeno possibly he could pull 400, but 400 is still i big pull without straps and as I've never seen him pull without straps I can't say for sure.
Raul Delgadillo yeah 460 raw in just a dead lift comp, Andy Bolton done 457.5 in a full comp, that was equipped
He did maxed out on bench press watch his videos first, it was after his prime and the series was called road to 700lb bench and the most he did was about 290kg, so i assume that in his prime it would be much more.
Eddie also did a 120kg rolling thunder lift in a small competition at his gym, so no grip issues there lol
Astrapi69 different grips the rolling thunder is open hand and different grip for a dead lift which is closed hand
different grip, Eddie's grip issues held him back in his career,
Eddie Hall did a push/pull in 2015 with a very loose set of rules. He benched 280kg touch and go, and with 1 foot leaving the ground (obviously would be DQ'd in a more serious setting), and he deadlifted 420kg with straps. There's a post on Markos' FB page with links to video footage of the bench, and a still shot of the deadlift at the top.
That contest was way before his prime and he was nursing a tricep and calf injury. He hit 300kg bench at a commercial gym.
Eddie is perhaps the statically strongest man to have ever lived. In my opinion if he had done powerlifting he would have had far more success than he did in strongman.
Pinching two plates is insanely hard. Watch the video from the Strongest Man in History where they attempt it
Yes he was
if he really wanted to get back into strongman or powerlifting at this point he still has the physicality to do so, would be awesome if after his showdown with hafthor he goes hard at lifting for a year or so and competes in some powerlifting meets
Imagine the "death by deadlift" challenge was included in this
He said once he didnt follow powerlifting because there wasnt any money to earn and that the sport gets lower recognition/attention in General. But he did say its great to build a foundation for other strength Sports.
Strongmen have insane grip, they do farmers walk, frame carry, Hercules hold, deadlift hold, etc. where they need stronger grip for longer periods of time.
Pretty sure this title belongs to either ed coan or john haack currently
Def John haack, I wouldn’t even say he’s in his prime and he’s already the GOAT
I love how disappointed Haack always looks after lifting, he’ll pull 800 or bench 500 for reps and pop up looking completely unimpressed like he’s thinking “that was spose to be easier”
Haack is up there but not the GOAT, Russ, Lillebridge, Wheels are all good considerations as well
JDog3943 yeah no...
@@kdktrapz3267 you reallyyyyy think haack is the goat? You must only watch "kingofthelifts" Instagram
Shame he never did a powerlifting competition when he was at his best
The current raw PL record is 2,386lb set by Kirill Sarychev
793.7 lb squat - Eddie beats that by at least 150lb if he trained
705.5 lb bench - in his "road to 700" series Eddie pushed 672lb after just a few months training for it
887.4 lb deadlift - in 2013 (3 years before his prime) Eddie pulled 925lb raw (even with his weak grip!)
Even if we took his 805x5 squat as his 1 rep max, that brings his total up to - 2402 beating the current wr by 16lbs
And this is taking his unequipped 805x5 as his 1 rep max, and assuming that he wouldn't train for the event and his numbers wouldn't continue to grow. His real raw total would have been 200lb above that
Lol what do you think would have happened if he trained for it and worked on his "weaknesses"? He would have set a record that would stood for 20 years at least.
Apparently he did a push-pull meet some years ago and managed 280/420. But without footage, just a certificate. You can find it in his Facebook page.
Gore4ever FulciLives he failed 400 on grip? There goes the ATWR argument lol
Curmudgeon in his prime he had terrible grip due to a hand injury at WSM 2016
@@hg_10sm68 He could still make up for it on squat/bench. Dan Bell's wrapped total he "only" pulled 400. So for arguments sake if Eddie pulled 380 he'd just need to find 21kg from somewhere.
seemed like a fair analysis of eddie's potential
The 2 20 kg pinch is world class feat but don’t carry over to the dead lift, ones pinch open hand dead lift is closed hand
UA-cam captions "Annie Hall just became world's strongest man"
A lot of comments saying the reason he didn't compete was due to his apparent lack of grip strength (?!) and/or injuries. Noone considering the possibility he just wasn't interested in powerlifting? He was an all round strength athlete and Strongman is a much more varied sport, so switching to powerlifting he could've just found tedious?
Also there's no money in powerlifting.
To the point about his grip, he can rep out the Thomas Inch dumbell and flay frisbee with 20 kg plates. His gripstrength shits all over most pro powerlifters
It's simple - money. Powerlifting as a sport has less commercial value than strongman.
Less commercial value means less prospect of earning money and sustaining yourself. Don't forget - strength sports are very taxing on your budged due to the ammount of food and drugs needed.
I remember of an interview with Eddie regarding his preparations for his 500kg pull - he said that he needed something like 800£ per week just in doctors & medicine (if i remember correctly).
Prime Eddie would do 715 bench
He’s only 34. I wish he’d get back into this, either power lifting or strong man.
We will never know how much he could’ve pulled completely raw, because we’ve never seen him deadlift EVER without straps.
He was a strongman. They all have insane grip strenghts because of the carry events
Does that matter?
you want him to hurt himself or what? he can lift your car and carry it to grocery store and back
@pierce sherry I would agree if Hafthor and Hall did not lift 500 kilos without a suit. Raw is forever the best.
Just because straps are used in one event doesn't mean grip is not important. Farmers, stones, rocks, sandbags, kegs, Hercules hold, deadlift hold all require grip
He could've definitely beat all the records.
Grip strength? You can use straps in strongman, so why WOULDN'T you train with them?
yeah but in a powerlifting meet you cant use them
I can't even squat or dead this mans bench, man am i feeling weak
Fully hydrated Eddie vs fullthor
He gave up being the greatest PL to become THE BEAST!!....
Eddie hall was putting up those numbers while training for strongman events. Imagine what he would have done if he only trained for 3 events!
It wasn’t 365kg on the squat. It was 345kg. He or his video editor mislabelled it in his post. 345kg is the weight he uses to gauge his current strength. instagram.com/p/BZjIH8hlOZD/?

Eddie either exaggerated the weight on purpose to get it up to 800lbs, or by accident.
Gore4ever FulciLives I noticed that. Increased the weight by 5kg on a recent post didn’t he? 155 to 160? Or was it 170
Yes it was 345 he said that on a video think it was with Brian Shaw
I see you're hard at work gentleman. Doesnt hurt to add an extra 10 kg 🤣

Yeah, and since he overshoot that time he fucked up his hip. I forgot the name of the video in which he talked about that but i know its a video from last year
Didn't Eddie bench 300 kg in an official meet?
Yep

He had the potential! But he never did id, I will never understand why ☹️ sure there is no money to get, but a lot of honor.
Eddie quit competing for his health and his family, he was killing himself eating as much and being as huge as he was when he competed, he's way way way slimmer and healthier now. He talks about it himself in videos, he didn't want to stop but he had to since continuing to compete would be selfish towards his family.
@@stpbasss3773 I know, but he could have done it by the way, when he was on his peak and he could do it after he endet his strongman career. After a one year break to recover, for example. Because train for a powerlifting competition is not so much hard work, like training to win WSM.
Eddie and Shaw dis that 2x45s chalange and Magnus Samuelsson was the last man to close de handgripper COC#4, all 3 Strongman,
“Powerlifters noise complaining on grip”
I believe Eddie has always been scared of tearing his biceps... perhaps he feared going strapless, and using an alternate grip, would put him at risk of injury on heavy deadlifts. I know it's not necessarily a dangerous grip but if it's a severe worry for him, it could be an explanation. (Obviously in addition to it not being necessary for strongman).
would pull hook grip if he did a meet
Yeah these estimates are very fair. I think you're dead on.
Eddie is still a strong mutha f...er for his size and height he is really strong. But from what we see when he puts his mind on something he is unstoppable.
I'd say round both squat and deadlift to 1000 pounds, and 700 pounds for bench. 2700 pound total, or well over 1200 kill
Bro finding a video of ed deadlifting without straps would be more impressive than a 500kg deadlift
Why is everyone acting like Eddie is old? He's only 32 LOL, he just retired super early. He still has plenty of time to powerlift if he wants. I mean ed coan was 44 when he retired!
eddie is finished, he retired becaue he was dying from the abuse of foods and roids he was on during the 2016 / 17 season to get to the top

Goat of what????
I wish I could make my 2 plate squats look as easy and as clean as Eddie's 360kg...
Who needs a power belt when their belly is already a power belt? XD
Makes sense
The grip argument is flawed, Eddie is a strongman and events like farmers carries require massive grip. These strongman have superb grip strength and i would even go on to say that Eddie could have pulled 460+ on the deadlift raw if he wanted to.
not every strongman has superb grip strenght, just look for example at 2020 arnold strongman classic frame carry Kieliszkowski vs Bjornsson
