29th is very impressive still. It's absolutely bonkers, how fast the pace was this year. Last year was just over 10 hours, and this year, 61 riders were under the 10 hour mark. To think that you went 35 minutes faster than last years 1st place finish time, and got 29th, is hard to wrap my head around. Fantastic video, Joe! You did a great job! Thanks for sharing it with us. Take care!
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it! I think as the level of competition continues to explode, combined with some of the top guys having teammates, I believe it will continue to get faster!
Last year's course was longer and had the mud section(s) ... not to take away from Joe's awesome race! I was hitting Little Egypt right around when he was finishing.
Truly an epic race! Very cool to see so much of the lead up and behind the scenes, as well as the in-race highlights. Fantastic result, and keep up the good work, Goettls!
Thanks for the video, I re-lived the race! (having finished a few hours behind)) Very human and very professional -- saying this as a TV presenter myself. Keep up the good work in racing and in the media!
Your videos are awesome. The best on UA-cam I think. On these hot Texas days when I'm not riding I'm watching your videos. Don't ever stop and thanks for making them. Kelly from Texas ! I live in Wichita Falls and We ride in the HHH ride every year. It's crazy being in the middle of all those bikes. What an experience !!!!
I love Roxy videos with a little bike racing on the side! Excellent camera work and race insight commentary, as always. Bummer on the flat, but you definitely belong among the best out there. Big props to your first-class pit crew. Keep it up, Joe!
Great coverage and well presented prep, travel, pre-ride, family & friends, RACE DAY, and wrap-up. Really enjoyed the tight elbow-to-elbow footage! Looking forward to your next one.
Loved every sec of this video am also doing a transition from watching road races to gravel races absolutely enjoyed this glad i landed on one of ur videos. good luck on ur next races
CONGRATS - Great result in a VERY stacked field........You have paid Your dues, Trained hard & done all the homework - You definitely earned it. Enjoyed the Video journey😎 Thanks to You & Kendra.
Impressive finish for sure. I’ve been watching your videos as trainer encouragement and as vicarious memories. Headed to Vernal this weekend taking on 100 miles of gravel at 65. I know I won’t ever be as fast as you but your helping be to not get slower!
Hey J! I been waiting for this upload for days…. Great footage and superb content and race insight! You were on the pace, and in great company. I mean this field was stacked. It’s such a pity you got a flat at the most possible worst time, but that’s racing man. I think this is possibly your best performance without any issues from a health perspective and I think just reapply this same strategy and preparation and you will get that elusive result! You’ve gained a lot from this experience and look forward to your next adventure. Peace.🤛🏻
What can I say...inspirational stuff! Exceptional result, be proud.....excellent production too, really well narrated, modest, incitefull and informative....here is too your next adventure and triumph! And a great job by your wife and father in law, my partner is similiar, unwavering support when its most needed !
Great race. Sorry about the flat. But still a great result 29th. If it wasn't for the flat, probably top 10 the way you sprint at the end. Congrats again. One more thing, a small battery pack and usb cable attached to the frame could help with the gopro battery life. Keep the good video. Love the music.
If you rely on Speedplay's float for your knee, have a look at HT M2 mtb pedals for off road. They don't have as much float as Speedplay, but they have significantly more than SPDs if you get the 8-degree cleats.
Awesome content man , love watching your videos while I’m riding on the trainer. 👌🏽💥 Would love to come do a few gravel races in the USA 🇺🇸. Hopefully can join you for a pre course ride 👌🏽 all the best all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦
Thank you for posting your race. It was great to hear your insights and see what it was like. I am curious what kind of gopro mount do you use, and what do the different race number colors mean?
Yeah I took apart this bontrager multi tool and just brought the chain keeper part as I already had a specific multi tool that goes in a purpose built spot inside the checkpoints downtube storage: www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/bike-accessories/bike-tools-maintenance/bike-tools/tools-for-your-ride/bontrager-pro-multi-tool/p/32853/
Great video coverage. I felt as if I was riding with you as you told your story. I am racing most of this course this Saturday at the Rock Ridge Gravel Race that Starts in Alma, KS. It will be just as tough terrain but 75 miles. I thinking of run the Perilli RC rather than the H tires for more grip and additional puncture protection. The RCs are definitely slower on pavement but think will give more confidence on the course. What sealant did you have in your tires?
Thank you! I’d say that’s a good call! The H’s can take a beating but unbound is a different beast! I’m thinking about running the rc’s at big sugar as well! Ive always just ran regular Stan’s sealant but I’m thinking about giving orange seal or the silica stuff a try! I think Paige Onweller tested a few in her unbound prep UA-cam video and found a pretty good sealant!
Bike was flawless! Just the flat but that’s not the bikes fault. I actually really liked the drivetrain for this race with the gears closer together! But that new red 13 speed is going to be the ticket! If you do get the current red explr, just make sure you get a chain keeper! I have not had a single drop or issue this year with that!
Yes, the moto went down hard! I saw it roll but was too far away to get it on camera with my wide angle. I believe the photographer/videographer ended up going and getting stitches in his chin, then came back out to shoot more!
Yours is the best in-race footage of Unbound. I have conducted an unofficial survey of all the post-event footage. What a retired guy has time to do. I suggest you do a post-production edit of just those segments that vividly showcase the different sections of the race, such as the challenging uphill climbs and the thrilling downhill descents while the athlete bounces around. His navigation of the muddy sections is riveting. Then, provide the edit to the promoter and overall race series folks and to your main sponsors for posting to their websites. No mentions are needed about how the athlete finished; just let the action tell the story. Include the one section where the winner dressed in pink zooms up the side on the left as you need to give him credit for winning. You have classic, to-die-for footage of what it feels like to be bounced around on that course. Use it for everything it is worth. Thanks for the wonderful video. I am now going to watch it again. With appreciation, Darl DeVault
It’s actually mutually beneficial to riders in my group, giving them a chance to start accelerating earlier and hop on the wheel of the rider coming by with less effort.

Epic indeed! Thanks Jake!
Outstanding result, Joe! You were flying. Even after the race it looked like you had just completed a 50-miler. You looked fresh and strong!

Wow, well done, great coverage and very humble.
Absolutely crazy race! Outstanding job, Joe!
Over 21mph over 200 miles on gravel is super!! Really enjoyed your video!
Congrats on your finish! Strong ride! I don't give 47mins of my time for a lot of videos but this one was worth it. Great job!

Ein sehr sehr starkes Rennen, die Strecke und die Länge sind eine echte Herausforderung.
Race footage looks crazy :D nicely done!

Thanks again Team Goettl for letting us live the dream vicariously through your passionate pursuits!
You’re very welcome and thanks so much for watching and your continued support!
Great vid and strong finish! Love the music choices - so much better than 99% of other gravel vids
Great race, excellent video, loved all the commentary. Well done
Such a great video to see how the elite pack does it
Amazing Video! Amazing Race! As Always. :) GREAT JOB!!!
Enjoyyed watching race. Excellent
Nice job on the racing and the race video! Too be on Mohoric’s wheel turning into that rough section was too cool!!
This race is like a boxing match

insight into the race at the pointy end 👍

Looked like you were on a great day! Sorry about the flat.

ya. you took some major rubble there, but it paid 19:54
Raptor 700 Riding Movie...
21:11 Did the moto crash? Why is the driver on his hand and knees?
Yes, the moto went down hard! I saw it roll but was too far away to get it on camera with my wide angle. I believe the photographer/videographer ended up going and getting stitches in his chin, then came back out to shoot more!
@@jgoettl2.0 thanks for the response. Great race recap!
ya, if we didn’t have to fight so hard for position for the first hours it would just be called a TT
You don’t use talk to text in a race?
That would probably be much more efficient 👍
What a wife!

The design of those shorts show bad 😂
Pfs, this is easy. Chump change. I could do this, in a video game, with cheat codes activated.
Unreal.
“Up, up”. Ugh. Such a douche move. Call it playing it smart all you want, absolute worst part of crits. Apparently now finding a new home in gravel.
It’s actually mutually beneficial to riders in my group, giving them a chance to start accelerating earlier and hop on the wheel of the rider coming by with less effort.
pro tip. lose the music.
