I am a massive fan of “NIN” and I noticed that they had an artist playlist called “recommended listening,” I listened to all of the songs, most were really good and had excellent aspects. When I heard this, I was blown away. It’s not about a fantastical groove or a wicked guitar solo, it’s goose bumps and how touching the song is. Thank you Trent.
Oh, awesome. I saw them do this song last year in Bloomington, Indiana, and it really gave me chills. I kept trying to find it on a previous record. Now I see it was a new song from the unreleased new album. I gotta get this!
This song, which was played during the last scene in "The Night Comes for Us." so hit. Actually, the meaning of the lyrics is ironic. The lyrics is explaining that we commit murder in the name of God. A kind of justification for how evil we are. The point is fit to this film, killing each other without feeling guilty, even to kill criminals brutally.
Saw them play Leeds a year or so ago...incredible! This is a great album to get (Drums & Guns) and check out the Retribution Gospel Choir too, Alan Sparhawks other band...class act....
I'm Canadian and I've always had sort of a grudge against my southern neighbours, but I've been studying American history this semester and learning actually what makes USA amazing. There's still a lot good things about your country, don't forget that man. You'll find it in a text book rather than the MTV though.
Strange that so many miss the meaning of this song: it's a religious fanatic who is about to commit some horrible atrocity "in the name of God" -- we all know several who have claimed to do so, from more than one religion -- lone wolves or whole governments. (one can be religious, as Alan and Mimi are, and still be highly critical of religion's use or misuse, etc.)
Alan Sparkhaw mentioned once in a concert in Mexico (Nrmal 2016) that the song was about "something" that happened in Mexico. I dare say it was about the "Cristeros" war, one of the bloodiest episodes in Mexican history. The government prohibited the Catholic religion because it took a lot of money from the people and had a powerful opinion in the country's policymaking. Then closed churches and enforced hard punishments for those against the new rule. Cristeros refers to Christ, and it was an army made of common people, priests and all those who tried to protect their religious practices (and benefits). An yes, there were mad people who believed they were doing the job of God. In fact, there are some Mexican saints that achieved such status because they fought that war. But again, that's only what I think the song is about.
I am a God believer, but i trully understand this lyrics... I think every human being have this kind of conversations with god... we are humans... thank you low
Prepare to get jealous, here is my november: 08: explosions in the sky 16: orphaned land 22: fleet foxes 25: opeth 30: low In december, I will be able to say "the 80% of the concerts I've been was last month" ahah
I mean really, a low video possibly the best live performance available to watch on youtube and it's packed full of kids thanking Thom. It's awful that they don't even use his surname and we already know who he is. Dial down the Thom, kids.
Watching Mimi sing this now, after losing her: it’s just so emotional. RIP Mimi
RIP Mimi.
R.I.P. MIMI
This song is a beautiful masterpiece. Rest in peace Mimi, so sad to hear the news of your passing.
This is the kind of song that stays with you your whole life. A true gem.
The Night Comes For Us was a bloody epic crime thriller
I hope one day these guys are inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame.
Some of the best pure composers in history. All of their songs are gold.

You are right. The song starts with "One more thing before I go", this is the key.
For what its worth, in a live recording from 2012 I have, Alan says "This song is about countries that cheer when they've assassinated people."
Alan Sparkhaw mentioned once in a concert in Mexico (Nrmal 2016) that the song was about "something" that happened in Mexico. I dare say it was about the "Cristeros" war, one of the bloodiest episodes in Mexican history. @@GhostofSeq It makes sense.
@@tmt6691weird. Someone else said the band said it was about the US/Iraq war.
Stunning!
One of their absolute finest (and they had dozens of great ones) and this performance is a million times better than the noisy recorded versions.
So beautifull. Thanks for this song
Dallas Green brought me hear from his City And Colour Cover. What an amazing group!
