I'm glad you enjoyed our state. I live about 10 miles from the trail, in the opposite direction from Heflin, in Anniston. The burn area was probably a controlled burn to clear the under growth and leaves. The forest service will do that every few years and it is a benefit to the forest. That big black thing is a species of grasshopper. We call them black devils and do not like them. Enjoy the Florida trail. I look forward to seeing the videos.
