On a calm Saturday in May my dad, Kayla and I summited Carrauntoohil via the Devil's Ladder and down via the zig zag route. It took us approximately 6 hours from start to finish in Cronin's Yard.

Conor, if you’re interested in more USA distance hiking, may I suggest 2 trails in Arkansas. Ouachita Trail is 223 miles and the Ozark Highlands Trail is 165 miles with options to hike 200 miles or more. Both trails are more rugged and isolated than the Lone Star Trail. FYI.
Where did you pick up the gas and also what were the night time temperatures thinking about doing this trail next year, cheers
Kenia Outdoor in Palma. Night time was pretty chilly around single digits. It can even snow pretty bad in Winter early spring months.
Thanks for getting back to me,so definitely warmer than UK , just so I know which sleeping bag and may to take, cheers pal.
Hi Conor and Kayla. Those were some long days of hiking that you put in. Glad the weather stayed good for you. All the best 👍
A steep hike, a little specific because you have to pass through populated areas (not just wild nature), but there is a plus to it, there is an opportunity to replenish supplies... How many km on average did you walk per day?
Great video, I do day hikes in the Big Cypress. Great job describing the park and its abundant wildlife
Oh did you just love the last few km along the road .. was going to camp at the football ground near that lidl store 😅😅
My favorite section 😂
I did 27th April... rained for the fitst 3 days.. camped in that big pizza oven shelter thing in the woods 😅😅.. what your sun hoodie make plus shades..
Sun hoody is 'Outdoor Research Echo Sun hoody' highly recommend. Shades are just whatever i pick up cheap because I always break or lose them.
A fine hill!
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. Glad you and Kayla are able to take some cool trips while in Europe.
Absolutely amazing. I recommend you visit the himalayan mountains k2 and Nangaparbat view point from one place moses peak. Add this sound in your bucket list.
I was going to start hiking .retired.from orlando.thought it mite be a good idea to see where it comes in n maybe walk the parts that are near by.
Poor Tortoise! He was dumped! He wasn't afraid of you all because he was at one time a pet. I'm sure he was in need.
Despite the not so friendly dogs and Blair witch type abandoned building great to see you enjoying it and some really pretty landscapes
No fear there would be any trail magic left for hikers in Ireland huh
Huge well done you two.
How heavy was your pack etc.. you are doing great
Can't remember exactly but it wasn't very heavy
Huge well done Conor, great to see a fella Irish man on the trail, any trail, fair play for taking on climates that we arent used to and researching all the necessary information and gear
"that's where conor mcgregor's from isn't it?" Jeeeeeeeeesus that made me laugh hard for some reason. The way people try to relate lol
😂 oh ya, especially that one... I get that one all the time. Damn Conor McGregor 😂
Great video! Planning on thru-hiking this in Feb/March when the heat and bugs are gone. Any tips or pointers that I may need to know?
The Forest Service conducts their controlled burns in March generally, which could close a portion of the trail. FYI.
Conor, loved that forest🌲though not so much the first water source ( I think 'brown' was doing it too much justice😊) Have always thought the system of trails and permanent campsites over there is pretty cool. Just a reminder that it is all so much bigger over there, including those insane highways. Twenty degrees at night with humidity didn't sound pleasant at all, along with the bugs and snakes! Well done on the climb to the highpoint of the trail😊 and on completing what looked like a cool adventure>👍It didn't look like a trail with much footfall?
It's a beautiful country with a world class trail system and community. Some of the best managed public lands in the world too imo. The Lone Star is a flat walk through the woods in rural East Texas, we met very few hikers (like maybe 10 max through the 96 miles) or even locals out walking.
As a current native of Alabama it makes me so sad to see so much trash, its kind of infuriating knowing people come to the trail from all over the world and some of the locals don't respect their own lands well enough to dispose of their trash properly. It just really takes away from the natural beauty and experience of a place.
You come from a beautiful underrated state. More Alabamans need to take pride in the great nature around them and not trash it. Maybe more folks would visit. We have the same problems in Ireland with illegal dumping, it's sad.
@@conortheirishguy4337 I can't wait to visit Ireland someday, I've heard a lot of good things. Thank you for seeing the beauty of it despite the polluting, I'll be sure to do the same when I visit.
great videos. Very impressed with your distances - what's your footwear of choice? Actually a kit-list post or video would b great as your whole set-up looks very lightweight
This is brilliant work! Thank you!!
What was the castle at the beginning at the film? I didn't see it on my walk. Looks like you walked via Eyeries on the Beara Way stretch. I recognized that crayon-box village, and I saw that the Kenmare River was to your left. I walked from Kenmare to Dursey Island via the south side of the Beara, which is actually the most dramatic side. I then walked back to Kenmare via Eyeries and Laragh.
Ross castle in Killarney National Park, usually full of tourists, I got to explore it alone.
I recognized the River Barrow and remember that lock from my walk. I also recognized Brandon Hill in County Kilkenny, the town of Inistioge, and the wooded river valley nearby (can't remember the name of the river). Also, the town of Carrick-on-Suir, the castles across the River Suir in County Waterford, and the view of Clonmel from the Comeragh Mountains. And I believe that was Clogheen at the end of the video.
I walked from Dublin to the Beara in the summer of 2013. I recognized vantage points in this video, including Powerscourt Waterfall, Djouce Mountain, the boardwalk over White Hill, and Glendalough's Round Tower. I think I also recognized the Blackstairs Mountains in County Carlow. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada.
It's a great way to see Ireland for sure! I'm currently living in Vancouver B.C
@@conortheirishguy4337 Where in Ireland are you from?

I hiked the AZT I 2017, nobo. It’s a tough hike. Never found water at a cache and never had trail magic. So nice that you are getting those. The beauty of the desert hasn’t changed though!
I'm doing this trail next week. Pray for me 🌨❄️
That looked like a fantastic trip👍 Loved the forest, the amazing outdoor loo with a view, the sunset and that crest with the fixed ropes👍👍 Fantastic landscape all the way.
Great video, keep them coming. Cheers!
Congratulations you two! I wish you two all the best in life. It was really nice hiking along with you guys on the FT.
That is the biggest Gopher Tortoise 🐢 I have ever seen😳 and I’m from Florida!
My wife and I are planning AZT thru starting in March. What was your start date? Thank you.
We started March 15th, finished May 4th. Enjoy, it's one of my favorite trails so far
“5 days without a shower, doesn’t sound like a lot.” No no, that sounds like a lot. 😂. Of course I’m not a hiker. Enjoyed the videos!
Cool video and well done! I think we met you on your last day, Martina and I were hiking south doing the Hayduke and on the AZT for a few days before heading off to Nankoweap in the Grand Canyon.
Yes I remember we met a couple doing the Hayduke, hope it all went well for you
it was nice that you stopped to film the beautiful desert flora.
Hell yeah!
Jeez Conor, you're clocking up the miles.... looking forward to watching this later this evening... keep posting and stay safe.
Watching from philippines :)
Just finished watching your AZT video series - great job and congratulations! - I’m planning on hiking the trail in the Spring of ‘23 - I think your videos are the best I’ve seen of giving a future thru hiker an idea of what to expect - thank you for that!
Thanks Todd, best of luck next spring. It's beautiful out there!
Did you hike at a slow pace or was the terrain difficult for the 100?
We went pretty slow, it took a while to adjust to hiking with elevation after coming straight from the flat Florida Trail to this.
@@conortheirishguy4337 it took you over a month to do 100 miles or was that the entire trail?
@@joshuathompson2131 took us around 50 days to do the whole trail and about 6 days to do the first 100 miles
Great job. What was your exit plan at the northern terminal if you hadn't gotten a ride? Is the trailhead always busy, and getting a ride is easy or difficult.
Thank you! It can be hard to get a ride from northern terminus. It's a 10 mile dirt road walk to highway 89. We were prepared to walk that dirt road if we had to but a guy ( who we first met on trail) had come back in a car after he finished to explore the area just so happened to pull in at the terminus when we finished and drove us up the dirt road. From experience hitching I was pretty confident we would get to Vegas on highway 89 within a day with a few hitches. Luckily for us after 10 mins a girl on her way to Vegas stopped to picked us up and drove us 4 hours the entire way! (Huge coincidence)
My favourite part of the whole walk! I recognized Killarney Lakes, Torc Waterfall, the Mangerton Mountains, Allihies, and Dursey Island. And the lighthouse foundation at the end of Ireland. I also rode in the cable car. I ate at O'Neil's Pub (painted fire-engine red) in Allihies.
I walked the Western Way from Ma'am Bridge to Westport in 2004. I loved Connemara! I recognized St. Patrick's Shrine in the Maumturk Mountains in your video. Do you have a video like this of the Dingle Way? I also did that walk in 2004.
I've yet to do the Dingle way, hopefully someday but it won't be for a good while. I live in Canada now
@@conortheirishguy4337 I live in Canada too. Saskatchewan. What province do you live in? Where in Ireland are you from?
@@Pocockable living in Vancouver B.C. and I'm from county Louth
I walked from Dublin to the Beara Peninsula in the summer of 2013. I enjoyed watching these videos. I recognized Marlay Park, Powerscourt Waterfall, Djouce Mountain, White Hill, the Blackstairs Mountains, the River Suir, the Comeragh Mountains, and Glengariff. The Beara Peninsula was my very favourite part of the walk. I'd highly recommend the Beara Way to anyone who is physically fit. But it's no stroll in the park!
How many liters of water did you carry
I had capicity for 3.4 litres and usually filled up whenever I could
When did you start?
March 15th start May 4th end
Great videos! I'm a native Floridian living in the western suburbs of Ft Lauderdale and was pleased to see someone traveling the Florida Trail: it's not for everyone...it's definitely NOT the touristy area, but the terrain is unique and I'm glad you came to visit and even more pleased that you are highlighting the Florida Trail. Happy Hiking through the rest of the trail!
needa get you some waders lol...
First 150 were probably my favorite.
