Just from an organizational point of view: It's great to have all the spring 2021 hikers I'm following on the same trail! With regard to the AT in other countries, you will have to come down out of Canada someday, it only makes sense you cross Windsor to Detroit and take a left to the OH border to catch the North Country Trail. You can cover the longest single state leg & go Ice climbing from Dec-Feb or March👍
Hi iam a 65 year old section hiker on the AT from PA and found your site from Ramdino. I really enjoyed your trek on the Florida trail but if it was me I would on taken a portage canoe lol. I will be tracking your progress on the AT and you will be in good company as i am also tracking Quicksand , Happy, Hawk and Underdog. be safe and happy trails
Way to Go! Georgia on your mind (and on your feet). High point of the video was your musing about (Mr. Never Satisfied) future, expensive, complicated, foreign travel hiking trips . . . and then cutting quickly to Jen's suspicious and sorrowful eyes saying clearly "Really? You have got to be kidding me." Priceless. Hike on! Tortoise
"Georgia, everybody's second favorite half of the Pinhoti" is so funny. It's good to hear from you and others that Alabama is working on moving more of the hike from roadwalk to trails. Is Georgia working to do the same? Nimblewill Nomad, in a recent interview with Chica and Sunsets, provides some good perspective and history of the Pinhoti.
I can’t really say other than I saw a comment on the Pinhoti Facebook group claiming a lot of the road adjacent walking was due to a planned highway expansion that ended up delayed for years. Each state seems to have its own challenges when it comes to trails
I "love" thunderstorms....I can't hear them much anymore when I take my "ears" off....but I do enjoy them. Good thing you had a shelter to stay in...would have been a bit of a bummer to have been run over in your tent by one of those ATVs....yikes !
There’s an extension of the IAT that restarts in the Blue Stack Mtns of Donegal, Ireland. That’s the piece of the ancient Appalachians that disconnected most directly from the North American plate (was originally connected to Newfoundland & Labrador).
Thanks for the heads up on atvers on getting to Georgia Are you slack packing the next road walk. I have seen others do that. I think the owners of Hearn inn will shuttle you. Enjoy watching your hiking
Why not go for the long hike? Start at the southernmost point of South America to Alaska. Across the straight and then to the southernmost point of Africa. You might be the first to complete it. You could do the PCT on the way.
If you haven't already done it, check in with Ramdino Roaming the Trails on UA-cam where his email and fb info is located. He keeps up with all the hikers on the AT and gives a lot of info to the AT community. Lots of people watching his channel will want to pick up watching you. Especially since you are getting your videos out often, no doubt some trail angels will connect with you once they know about you. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing the southern part of the AT in May from your videos.
Thanks for the suggestion. I filled out his form a while back and he mentioned me in at least one video. I assume he just periodically checks on the people he’s tracking?
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes He has so many to follow the way it works is you email him each week and let him know where you are and then he mentions you in his Sunday AT Community update. I think it's by email. Look at his most recent post on UA-cam and he tells hikers how to let him know where they are. I'm a Central Florida native, living in KY and my husband and I (retired) hiked 700 miles on the AT over 2 years. I'm one of those "see every inch of the trail" kind of people, so the thought of hiking from Key West, which I saw when I was 6, to the far north spot in Canada is an awesome idea. Got to say though, without fishing waders I would NEVER hike the Florida trail!
Staying at grandma’s house, that’s a good night of cozy sleep. Cool place you picked.
Lightning bugs are the coolest!!
Always a treat to see one of your vlogs pop up! Thanks again!
I literally heard Jens laugh when her pic popped up .. best laugh ever
Good luck. ✌️👊

I live in Cave Spring and also hiked to the hawkins hollow shelter around the same time you were there! I don't know how I missed you!
I seemed to manage to miss most folks out on the Pinhoti for whatever reason. It must be my quiet demeanor and subtle coloration...

Another great video! Keep on trekkin!!,
Love following you along Stay safe!
Keep on keeping on, cheers from the sidelines
All this talk of mexican food and beer is making me hungry. You seem to know the finer things in life.
Keep on truckin'!
Congrats on making it to GA. A good rest is productive. Good Luck, Rick
Thanks!
new trail name suggestion Tweek -coffee..coffee coffee.
Good to see get through the storm and keep trucking on! It was pretty gnarly in Florida.

It goes through a bunch of different countries now. It would be really fun to just hop from country to country doing all the segments. But ah well
Thanks for the heads up on atvers on getting to Georgia

No, I am doing it the traditional way. Slack packing seems like it would take away from the adventure so I always say it’s against my religion

If you're thinking of going international, I would recommend Spain. The people are wonderful!!!

Hope you don't have to deal with rain during the road walk

I tried to tell you before... "Rural Alabama" two of the scariest words in the English language. :)
Shelters are like food water and electricity, get it when you can.
Lol! Hey, don't scoff at the horse shampoo. Its actually pretty decent stuff for humans. 😊 be safe!
I use deodorant to fix the chaffing between my legs
