I saw an interview with King where he said that everybody, including himself, was so coked up during the filming of "Maximum Overdrive" that it's amazing that they were even able to finish the movie.
He's also said that he doesn't even remember directing Maximum Overdrive he was on so much cocaine. I believe if you watch old M.O. teasers he's in them and high as hell. He's said he doesn't remember writing Cujo or The Tommyknockers either. Similar side note, Matthew Perry doesn't remember 3 years of filming Friends due to pill and alcohol addiction.

I saw this movie when I was a kid, and loved that damn cat so much I named my first cat Clovis. That dang cat was a hellion; attacked anyone who came in the house the first time she met them, then was oddly "ok" ish with them after that. Like she had to establish that she didn't like them right off the bat, and they had to know that immediately. But she loved me to death, though. Looked just like the original Clovis in this movie, too. She lived to 22. RIP little lady. You were the best.

Amazingly a few days later he was back, perched on the front porch, meowing to come in. Some how, miles away, he found his way back. Because of that, my folks were convinced that he was to stay. In fact, they even felt bad for dropping him off in the first place. How that cat managed to find his way back, I don't know. But he was certainly a good cat - one of the best when it came to intelligence and instinct - and with a sense of being apart of the family. Unfortunately one day he disappeared. Since he was an outside cat, he was always free to roam around. We think someone may have stumbled into him and took him in as a pet.

There was no possibility that a movie like what I described could possibly exist. She also claimed that since Madchen is German for girl that that just added to my failure in coming up with something believable. I actually saw this movie when I was really young (about 4-5 years old, stayed up past bedtime and watched from behind the couch while my dad was watching) and I only really remembered the "Cop kabob!!" bit and I had it stick in my head for years. Fast forward to me in college. Learnt one of my new friends was a horror nut. Asked if they knew a film that used the quote "Cop kabob". He immediately knew what film I was talking about and I finally got to rewatch it after all those years. This film is an absolute treasure~

I really liked this film as a teen. It’s “bad” but it was nice to have a young woman protagonist and a re-imagination of vampire like mythology. My other fav Stephen King “bad movie” is Dreamcatcher.

You don't get "the cats," Chris? Let me explain... The cats to Sleepwalkers are like garlic or sunlight to vampires. Kryptonite to Superman. Cats are their main weakness. There's a line early on about how no matter where they go, eventually the cats find them. It's not explicitly stated, but I think the cats are DRAWN to the Sleepwalkers, like catnip. They can sense that Sleepwalkers are around and they are attracted to them. Like they are instinctual enemies... No matter where the Sleepwalkers go, cats will start appearing around their house, and try to attack them. Get it?
It's been a bit since I last saw it but I thought there was an explanation if not in words then in the images used in the opening credits and I thought it had something to do with ancient Egypt and maybe Bast or maybe I was making that up in my head. :)
I SAW THIS! I was 12, so how bad it was went right over my head. It was genuinely frightening at the time, with all the grotesque shapes and, yes, cat death. The incest was also just something I glossed over, thinking that the mother-son relationship was just a cover for some reason. Idk. I had no idea it was that movie until the cop with the cat, tbh. Cats have always been blamed for "sucking the life" out of babies. As well as cats eyes reflect the soul. This is why the cats are always hanging out waiting to destroy them whenever the opportunity arises. And as soon as their guard is down, the cats go to _town_ on them. Their scratch is like sunlight or holy water to a vampire. Good vs evil, etc. 14:14 as to WHY they resemble cats, I don’t know. lol But they’re shapeshifters, too. The human-middle cat form appears to be like the second form they have, but I believe Charles was able to make himself look like various forms including a child, which is why they keep changing when they go town to town looking for virgin girls to feed on.
This movie is so entertaining in its violence and taboo absurdities; saw it recently and couldn’t get over just how fun it is. It's like an inadvertent parody of a classic 80s romp. Highly recommended.
Yeah this movie is the epitome of that 'it's so bad it's good' saying. Rewatched it recently and, even just the lacklustre reactions to serious pain-infliction was an absolute trip. Like when the teacher runs through the woods right after losing his hand and doesn't seem pained by the loss at any point. So absurdly, unintentionally funny.

You've got the spirit/essence-eating werecats, unnamed individuals (in the Scooby-Doo movie it was the zombies, and in this movie it's the cats) that help to try and fight against the werecats, and then you've got the ending to the movie where the unnamed individuals help to defeat the werecats.

Sleepwalkers has always been one of my favorite King movies. I watched it recently and was glad to see that it still holds up to the test of time.

There's a line early on about how no matter where they go, eventually the cats find them. It's not explicitly stated, but I think the cats are DRAWN to the Sleepwalkers, like catnip. They can sense that Sleepwalkers are around and they are attracted to them. Like they are instinctual enemies... No matter where the Sleepwalkers go, cats will start appearing around their house, and try to attack them. Get it?

I SAW THIS! I was 12, so how bad it was went right over my head. It was genuinely frightening at the time, with all the grotesque shapes and, yes, cat death. The incest was also just something I glossed over, thinking that the mother-son relationship was just a cover for some reason. Idk. I had no idea it was that movie until the cop with the cat, tbh. He was indeed super memorable

I have to admit, I really liked this movie and for what you said, it was entertaining. I love everything Stephen King. I figured that they were "feline-based shapeshifters". Cats have always been blamed for "sucking the life" out of babies. As well as cats eyes reflect the soul. They can't look cats in the eyes, and the cats are smart enough to know they are a threat to them.
I guess I just let movies take me where I want them to. I figure a way to understand them.

Cats hate werecats? Ok. The mother needs to have sex with her son to receive the life force her son gets from virgin girls? Alright, whatever. I saw it on late-night tv, as a young teen. I remember being scared a bit.

This is why the cats are always hanging out waiting to destroy them whenever the opportunity arises. And as soon as their guard is down, the cats go to _town_ on them. Their scratch is like sunlight or holy water to a vampire. Good vs evil, etc.

The human-middle cat form appears to be like the second form they have, but I believe Charles was able to make himself look like various forms including a child, which is why they keep changing when they go town to town looking for virgin girls to feed on.

This movie is so entertaining in its violence and taboo absurdities; saw it recently and couldn’t get over just how fun it is. It's like an inadvertent parody of a classic 80s romp. Highly recommended.

Yeah this movie is the epitome of that 'it's so bad it's good' saying. Rewatched it recently and, even just the lacklustre reactions to serious pain-infliction was an absolute trip. Like when the teacher runs through the woods right after losing his hand and doesn't seem pained by the loss at any point. So absurdly, unintentionally funny.
