Its so wonderful to see Chinese cooking in a less dish-focused fashion and more in the larger sense of the full meal and by extension giving a greater understanding of the food culture in general. There is not one single part of this meal that was not appealing in its own right. Thank you for continuing to make these videos and thank you for making me hungry after I have already had dinner. :)
It's really nice seeing how you make a full Chinese meal. It looks delicious and healthy. Please make more Chinese meal videos like this. It's nice to see how you pair different recipes together and how you manage your time while cooking :)
I would love if sometime you did a "what I usually eat in a day" type video. It'd be nice to see how you normally eat when you aren't filming recipes - your food always looks so good!
I'll second that! I would love to have a day in life for food. It would be fine if she was buying things or cooking or a combination. It would just be interesting
@Souped Up Recipes, Oh my god Mandy the chicken stir fry recipe is AMAZING! It's like a healthier version of panda express and I haven't eaten that stuff in over a decade. This is my 3rd time making it and cant get enough and will be making more. You are the goddess thank you!!!
Pro tip for ginger; it’s so much easier to get it cut fine if you just throw your ginger knobs in the freezer and then use a cheese grater to grate it. Finally minced ginger in a fraction of the time! These look absolutely delicious though. Been meaning to try traditional Chinese food. As much as I love takeout, went to an authentic Chinese place with one of my best friends in college who is first generation Chinese-American and was super satisfied, so much more variety and balance in flavor than the simple sweet, sour, salty palette of most takeout places.
I’ve made the soup a few times and am making it now as I’m writing this. You are my favourite Chinese Cook on YouRube and I wish you all the success in the world. You deserve it 🤩
You don’t know how grateful I am to you sharing so generously. I used to work in a Chinese takeaway but I got to enjoy authentic Chinese food at the hands of my lovely employers. My son is also half Chinese but because of dietary choices we don’t eat out in Chinese restaurants Because of your recipes which FYI have always succeeded (they are wonderful) it brings such happiness to be able to learn, cook, eat and enjoy the food that brings so many happy memories And my son can experience food from the other half of him 💕
I usually break off the top of the hot peppers and dump out the seeds. Your method of cutting them into strips with scissors and then leaving the seeds behind in the bowl is way better. Thank you for that technique.
Definitely trying each of these for a complete dinner with guests over. Nobody shows authentic Chinese cooking like Mandy. Everything I make using her guidance turns out superb.
Having vegetables accompany meat is something that drew my interest to Chinese cooking. Its nice when you can get their flavors to mix, or they share an aromatic flavor like garlic.
That is true back then everyday my mom made soup a meat entree, and a veggie dish. Dessert was fruit. I never complained.. my siblings and I all loved veggies as kids.
I'd love a cookbook divided into sections for each dinner element: soup, protein, vegetable etc. Perhaps even breakfast options. This is a fantastic video 🙏🏽
Well, that was fun! I really appreciate the explanations and cultural references. I love bean sprouts. I think the main reason I love Chinese food culture is due to the high vegetable ratios and the use of garlic, ginger, chili plus all the fresh herbs and dried spices, which are all foods I love. Also very little dairy products which do not agree with me. I grew up in a house with no dessert so I can relate to that as well. I had no idea it was something people ate every night and when I got married my husband had to get use to not having any very quickly, lol! Thank so much for all the hard work that went into this one.
I love Chinese food too .. I did a big China trip years ago. I loved the food sooo much even though communicating with waiters was sometimes very difficult. Much of it was a surprise - like Crispy chicken using lots of bones with little meat on it. I loved the idea to use all of the animal but it was difficult to eat for me. I would love to go back after the years .. not in these times I guess 😢
Modern western diets contain way more meat, dairy and sugar than is healthy, which has caused a significant rise in obesity, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, etc. Chinese cuisine isn't quite ideal either but it's at least much better. I'm vegan so I can't use most of these recipes directly, I'm mostly here to get a better understanding for how the chinese "flavour world" works in order to be able to adapt it into my cooking skillset, as currently the only chinese dishes I feel comfortable with are mapo tofu and some stir frys.
@@fdagpigj Late to the talk. But if you can tolerant soy, most of Chinese dishes' meat component can be replaced with either dried / smoke tofu which is much more condensed and firm than the extra-firm white tofu, plus it have much more protein rivaling some meats. This make them ideal for stir fry or barbecue. If soy is a problem, then King Oyster Mushroom slices also works well.
My wife is Chinese and appreciates when I cook Chinese meals. Your website is FULL of recipes and I am so excited to make tons of new meals! Thank you so much ~
Yay glad to find an asian yt content who doesn't preach ppl on having rice cookers. Look, im asian and i grew up cooking rice from a stainless steel pot bought from the market and that's very common here. Some ppl see rice cookers as a luxury. And then i see these content creators saying it's "not asian" if rice is not cooked using rice cooker. To each their own as long as the rice is well cooked! Glad she is keeping it real.
So beautiful everything….i will follow your recipes to celebrate the spring festival at home. Many thanks Mandy :) happy spring festival and thank you so much for your work and land 🎉😊
Wow! This is perfect for treating 3 to 4 friends at home. The recipes are quite simple and easy to make but definitely fantastic and surely delicious. Thank you Mandy. 👍👏❤️
I bought this wok a few weeks ago and use it a few times a week. The process to remove the paraffin takes way more time than the instructions say. It took well over 20 minutes for me to remove it. It took about a week and a half to get the side to be consistently non-stick, not too bad. Now it's easy to clean, just clean with a little a water, dry and then season with a little oil. I'm really happy with the wok.
Mandy, your mixture of knowledge, talent, flair and humility is so amazing to witness, it feels like we are being given more from you than we deserve! The addition of your shared knowledge is the gift of a sage to treasure in our lives. Thanking you is minute in comparison!
You are one of the best presenters on the Internet, so cheerful and so informative without anything unnecessary. I bought one of your woks and I love it! Thanks for all of your great recipes!
I like this concept of 3 dishes of lunch/dinner set. It is very helpful as there are times we will be cracking our heads to prepare lunch/dinner for family. I hope Mandy will have more this type of videos. Thank you in advance 😊
I am an ardent lover of Chinese food, but your channel is extra especial to me. Before there was a phenomenal amount of authentic Chinese cooking videos available on the UA-cam, I only trusted ‘Art of Cooking’ as the other channels seem to present such Westernised version of Chinese cooking. Later on, your channel and ‘Chinese Cooking Demystified’ opened new horizons of authentic Chinese cuisine for me. Love your simple, no-music presentation, your charming presence and your little tips. You probably wouldn’t know, we, in Kolkata (India), are CRAZY over Chinese food cooked by the Chinese community here. There is actually a Chinese neighbourhood famous for the Chinese food. My husband and I take delight in wowing our friends wth our home-cooked Chinese. Your tips have improved our skills a lot. Thank you and lots of love from Bengal, India.
I’d have one suggestion and that’s the use of the microwave during the defrost de thaw phase of the frozen poultry. I would fill up a bowl or sick and place chicken with bag into a mass of water (you can make it luke warm and warmer etc ).
One of the real gifts that she has is her ability to take on more complicated dishes and break them down in a way that you can get through them. I have seen a lot of chefs stumble in that ability.
As a chinese foods lover, i can tell that these foods are truly taste amazing!😋😋 Chinese cooking is definitely my preference for my daily cooking. Simple and easy👌👌👍👍
I'm so glad I found this channel. I'm in London, UK and I've struggled to find easy straight forward information on these types of dishes. I'm familiar with them from China Town restaurants, but have never understood how to make them properly.
Learning about other cultures is great for everyone. As it makes each nationality more common than not. I love Chinese foods, and it helps break up my normal everyday cooking too. If everyone would share little pieces of their Heritage people would understand we all aren’t so different. I enjoy your stories along with your cooking. Thank you Mindy!
I went to China back in 2012 for a high school language trip. We stayed there two weeks and us students stayed with different families. The family i stayed with were so nice, I loved them immediately. Māmā cooking was so good, she made these sweet dumplings for dessert on every dinner. I wish I could have stayed in touch with them, especially little sister. But when I came back to the states, I couldn't make the app work that could let you continue talking to those we met over in China.
Chinese cuisine is my favorite. I’ve made so many of your dishes already, Mandy. I like that you connect Chinese food with its culture and traditions in your videos.
Just got your Wok delivered this morning ! Seasonned it twice and used it for a peanut fried rice, it's AMAZING ! Can't wait for it to improve use after use, but i'm already in love !!
You will be astonished how much it improves after every single use! And it starts out pretty amazing already! But after about 5-6 uses it becomes magical and I kid you not! :D So easy to clean and so non-stick that I was really suspicious before I got used to it! The wok is so fantastic I'm going to buy like 10 of them and give them as gifts to people I love! :) Thank you, Mandy! And have fun, Clement!
@@-laodoushunancuisine4641 i've been using it everyday, sometimes twice a day, the texture looks a bit more rough (meaning the color is different in the middle of the wok, where the food usually gather and the metal spatula scrapes) but it's normal, and the non-stick .. well let me tell you about the non-stick : it's amazing, even if I don't use oil I can cook anything and it doesn't stick to it ! Everything just slides, I can cook chicken, veggies, seafood, tofu and let it brown and crust up wonderfully and it's never stuck to the bottom. It was a little bit the first uses, but if you clean it successfully and season it after uses, it works WONDERS ! Not disappointed at all.
This is a very tasty, wholesome, healthy and well balanced meal with all macro and micronutrients. It is better for Chinese people to keep the tradition adding plenty of greens. I will give a try to add pea leaves to the soup. That looks appetizing. thank you for the idea.

Mandy, this was so interesting! I subscribe to many cooking channels of cuisines all over the world, and very few cooking channels ever present an entire meal. (And in fact, many times I've therefore found myself wondering what goes with what, traditionally, anyway.) And, of course, the food looks so good! I make the meatball soup today. To turn it into a complete meal we added some wheat noodles. It was delicious. The amount of pork I had in the freezer was over 600 grams so I doubled the recipe and we turned some of the pork mixture into small patties which we fried. They too were delicious and tasted a bit like good dumplings. Thanks for the recipe, I will make it again!
The short-cuts alone make this one a keeper.
This is a great idea! So few videos and channels talk about a whole meal. Perfect!
Yes you are right
